After the Young Master’s Death, He was Kissed by His Mortal Enemy! - Chapter 52
One employee bowed repeatedly, while the other waved frantically—and just like that, they backed away from the elevator all the way down the hallway.
Cheng Yi’s lips curved into a faint, unreadable smile. Then, just before the elevator doors closed completely, he reached out and gave them a thumbs-up.
Not bad. As expected from his company’s staff—at least they had some awareness of the situation.
If it had been Wei Hailan standing out there instead—with his complete lack of emotional intelligence—he would’ve walked straight into the elevator, loud and carefree, and started chatting like nothing was happening.
As the elevator descended, the two employees finally let out a long breath.
They exchanged a glance, both clearly still shaken.
Employee A asked, “So… should we still go down?”
“Let’s wait a bit,” Employee B said with a pained smile, rubbing his forehead. “I’m afraid if we go down now, we might run into President Cheng and Boss Shen again in the parking garage…”
Employee A imagined that scenario and nodded solemnly in agreement.
So, they walked over to the building entrance and crouched down against the cold exterior wall.
Their expressions were so weary and haunted, you’d think they’d just survived some great catastrophe.
But the situation they feared never happened.
Because once the elevator doors closed again, Shen Ran immediately pulled away from Cheng Yi’s arms and pointed righteously at the security camera.
“Cheng Yi, what on earth were you doing just now?! I’m telling you, heaven is watching what people do! There are cameras in here—you better behave!”
Cheng Yi, however, looked completely unapologetic.
“But if I remember correctly,” he said casually, “it was Boss Shen who started it—said my lips were dry. I was only cooperating with you.”
“You—you…!”
Shen Ran felt his entire face burning. He couldn’t get a single word out.
If you wanted a definition of shamelessness or someone who played innocent after getting what they wanted—Cheng Yi was the perfect example!
When the elevator arrived at the basement level, the doors slid open again.
As they stepped out, Cheng Yi reached out and lightly patted Shen Ran on the head.
“I don’t think my lips are dry at all now. Thanks for your help, Boss Shen. —Next time, let’s help each other out.”
He deliberately emphasized the words “help each other.”
What kind of help he meant… well, that was entirely up to Shen Ran’s interpretation.
And, of course, Shen Ran’s mind went straight to the gutter. His head practically exploded with heat.
Help each other out? Did that mean… taking turns… with their hands…?
“What are you spacing out for? Let’s go home. I’m exhausted,” Cheng Yi said.
Snapping out of it, Shen Ran quickly followed behind him.
He tried his best to clear his mind, but the phrase “help each other out” had already taken root in his brain.
He couldn’t shake it. The mental images just kept coming back!
——
To be fair, Cheng Yi had excellent timing.
By the time they got home, the McDonald’s Shen Ran had ordered earlier for lunch had just arrived.
Completely drained from the day, Shen Ran collapsed into a dining chair. He listlessly took a bite from his grilled chicken burger with one hand, while the other absentmindedly scrolled through Douyin’s low-calorie snack videos.
He was trying to clear his mind—just clear his mind.
But right then, the short video paused, and an incoming call notification popped up.
When he saw the caller ID, Shen Ran sighed, put down his half-eaten burger, and suddenly lost his appetite.
Cheng Yi glanced over, puzzled. “Why aren’t you answering? It’s been ringing for a while.”
Shen Ran said nothing. He simply held the phone up for Cheng Yi to see.
[Incoming Call: Shen Xianming]
Ever since discovering the truth about his background, Shen Ran had changed his parents’ contact names in his phone to “Shen Xianming” and “Fu Sijie.”
“…Don’t want to answer?” Cheng Yi asked.
“It’s not that I don’t want to,” Shen Ran sighed weakly. “It’s that I don’t really have a choice.”
Just as he was about to press the “Answer” button, a hand reached over and took the phone from him.
Shen Ran looked up, stunned. He hadn’t expected Cheng Yi to step in like that.
“Hello, Uncle Shen? Good evening, this is Cheng Yi,” he said smoothly. “Shen Ran’s in the shower right now. If there’s anything urgent, you can tell me…”
Holding the phone to his ear, Cheng Yi spoke calmly and naturally with Shen Xianming, while giving Shen Ran a casual “OK” gesture before strolling over to the window.
After spending more time with Cheng Yi, Shen Ran had begun to notice some of his little quirks and habits.
For example, Cheng Yi always liked to take phone calls by the window.
For example, Cheng Yi had an undying love for black turtleneck sweaters. His wardrobe had an entire row of them from different brands.
Despite his cool exterior, Cheng Yi secretly loved ordering McDonald’s—especially their sweet taro pies.
He was incredibly consistent about his preferences. He only smoked one brand of blueberry-flavored cigarettes—and even in winter, he wouldn’t switch.
When Cheng Yi wanted to show compromise, he’d either soften his tone or reach out and ruffle Shen Ran’s hair.
And perhaps because his nose bridge was too high, Cheng Yi always tilted his head slightly to the right when he kissed—coming in from below.
“…Mm, alright. I’ll let Ranran know. …Me? If I can, of course I’d like to go with him. …Thank you, Uncle. Goodbye.”
Only after politely ending the call and waiting for Shen Xianming to hang up did Cheng Yi return to the dining table.
“My dad… Shen Xianming—what did he say to you?” Shen Ran asked.
He hadn’t wanted to answer the phone, but to say he wasn’t curious would be a lie.
Cheng Yi slipped the phone into his pocket, picked up the half-eaten taro pie, and finally replied in a relaxed tone.
“He said the Shen Group’s annual meeting is the day after tomorrow. You’ve always liked going for the food and the prize draw, so he told you not to miss it this year.”
The annual meeting… Shen Ran thought quietly. It was true—he used to love joining in on the fun.
After all, the Shen Group was a major company, and its annual event was always worth attending.
Of course, he didn’t go to listen to those long, meaningless speeches or lofty corporate visions from upper management.
He wasn’t even an employee—he had no interest in being lectured.
He went for one thing: the prizes.
The Shen Group’s raffle prizes every year were incredibly generous.
There were three rounds of drawings, and items like smartphones and tablets were only considered third-tier—not even worth getting excited about.
The second prize? Gold bars.
The first prize? A car.
And the grand prize? A luxury million-yuan penthouse in the best area of K City…!
This wasn’t just a company prize—it was a chance for an ordinary person to completely change their life!
With prizes like that, no wonder employees were eager to attend. Even Shen Ran couldn’t help but be tempted.
“I already told him you’d go,” Cheng Yi said. “But if you really don’t want to, we can always—”
“We’re going! Of course we’re going!” Shen Ran interrupted without hesitation.
“If I win something, it’s mine—why wouldn’t I go?” His eyes sparkled with determination, as if he were swearing loyalty to a cause. “And not just me—you’re coming too, as my plus one! Two people means double the chances!”
Cheng Yi wasn’t particularly interested in prize draws.
But the words “Shen Ran’s family member”… that definitely caught his attention.
