- Chapter 101 - Devoured Completely, Determined to Win
Before the words had even fully left his mouth, Shen Ran felt another light tap on his head from Cheng Yi.
“Yes, nobody takes care of you, nobody dotes on you, and I spend every day mistreating you. I act as your driver and move you into a new house just to gain your trust so I can eventually harvest your kidneys.”
Shen Ran couldn’t help but laugh.
How much were his kidneys even worth? Anything Cheng Yi had done far exceeded the value of his kidneys.
After briefly unpacking the luggage they brought, Shen Ran didn’t even have the energy for dinner. He collapsed limply onto the sofa.
“I’m so tired.”
Shen Ran spoke with a long, drawn-out groan, lazily swinging his legs. “I feel like I’m falling apart. Moving is truly exhausting.”
Cheng Yi picked up a magazine and sat down next to Shen Ran, his long legs crossed with an air of casual elegance.
It was a sharp contrast to Shen Ran, who was sprawled out like a puddle.
“You say it’s moving, but you clearly didn’t exert much effort.”
Cheng Yi said this while turning a page of his magazine. “All you did was move the clothes you brought into the walk-in closet.”
“Moving several boxes of clothes is also very tiring, okay!” Shen Ran retorted indignantly. “Cheng Yi, out of five boxes of clothes, three of them were yours!”
“That is true, but all you did was ‘move’ the clothes inside. The person who ironed, hung, and folded them was clearly me.”
Feeling guilty, Shen Ran remained silent. He simply shifted upward so he could comfortably rest his head on Cheng Yi’s lap.
The moving process was finally considered finished.
However, because Cheng Yi had suddenly dropped a fortune, Shen Ran hadn’t spent a single cent.
Holding his phone and looking at the increasingly impressive balance in his account, Shen Ran let out a satisfied sigh. “Sigh, so much money, I can’t even spend it all! Though, it would be even better if there were more.”
These words were actually meant for Cheng Yi’s ears.
Cheng Yi didn’t even look up, casually flipping another page of the magazine in his hand.
“What’s this, Boss Shen? Not satisfied with the current state of affairs and want to make your money grow?”
“Mm-hmm!” Shen Ran nodded vigorously.
But since Shen Ran was lying on Cheng Yi’s lap, those two nods happened to rub against Cheng Yi’s thigh.
Cheng Yi’s eyes narrowed imperceptibly. He reached out toward Shen Ran, his voice taking on a hint of huskiness. “Give it to me.”
“Give what?” Shen Ran looked puzzled.
“Give me the laptop you left on the coffee table. I have a few stocks in mind that are quite good and guaranteed to make a huge profit. Don’t you want to know?”
Shen Ran immediately understood Cheng Yi’s meaning and instantly perked up, sitting bolt upright. “Coming! Right away!”
“It’s not just stocks. I can also give you some advice regarding investment and financial management.”
“Great, great! Wait for me, I’m getting it now!”
While joyfully grabbing the computer, Shen Ran didn’t notice that Cheng Yi let out a secret sigh of relief.
He respectfully powered on the computer and handed it to Cheng Yi. Shen Ran sat back down beside him, hugging his knees with his arms, watching Cheng Yi’s operations with great anticipation.
However, Cheng Yi stopped his movements just as he opened the stock market interface.
“Why did you stop?” Seeing Cheng Yi go still, Shen Ran urged him anxiously. “Keep going.”
“If I recommend which ones Boss Shen should buy, what kind of reward does Boss Shen plan to give me?”
“Reward? That’s easy, I’ll treat you to dinner! How about that?”
Cheng Yi turned his head slightly, the long fingers of his right hand resting against his temple. His gaze flickered with an unreadable depth, and he smiled with a hidden meaning.
“Boss Shen, my appetite has grown. Simply treating me to a meal won’t be enough to move me anymore.”
Looking at Cheng Yi’s smile, Shen Ran suddenly remembered when he had just been reborn and Cheng Yi said he owed him a favor.
Back then, he had also suggested treating Cheng Yi to a meal.
Suggesting it again now did indeed seem a bit lacking in sincerity.
“Then what should we do? You’re not satisfied with a meal, and as for giving money… I’m afraid you have enough money to crush me to death. If not a meal, surely you don’t want to eat me?”
Shen Ran threw out ideas randomly, thinking Cheng Yi would be speechless, but he didn’t expect Cheng Yi to look somewhat surprised.
“So you do know what I want.”
“What do you want? To eat me?”
It was just a casual remark, but Cheng Yi set the computer aside.
Not good.
He had spoken out of turn.
Shen Ran didn’t dare to blink, swallowing hard.
He had just braced himself against the soft sofa to move back a tiny bit when the small movement was caught by Cheng Yi’s eyes.
He was subsequently trapped in an embrace.
A teasing voice came from above. “What, Boss Shen wants to run away? You don’t want me to help you with your investments anymore?”
“I still want the investments.” Shen Ran let out two dry laughs. “But as for this eating… eating… eating me, let’s forget about it?”
“I’m not running a charity, so when it comes to this matter of eating, I only have four words to say.”
The shirt buttons were undone one by one.
As his skin was exposed to the slightly cool air of the room, Shen Ran took a sharp breath, his hand pressing against Cheng Yi’s shoulder.
“Which four words?”
“Determined to win.”
Shen Ran didn’t run, because he knew he couldn’t get away even if he tried.
Before being devoured completely, Shen Ran only regretted that he talked too much. Why did he have to dig a hole for himself?
Fortunately, Cheng Yi kept his word afterward. He not only recommended several stocks that were performing very well but also made reasonable investments for Shen Ran’s other assets.
“Learn a thing or two.”
At that time, Cheng Yi said this.
“Alright, with the arrangements I’ve made for you, you can just sit back and wait for the money to come in. There is absolutely no possibility of a loss.”
Hearing this, Shen Ran felt that the exhaustion he suffered was worth it!
However, with the end of the year approaching and everything just settled, Shen Ran faced another dilemma.
The New Year was coming. He absolutely did not want to return to that Shen family home, and bringing Cheng Yi back would only invite further schemes.
Cheng Yi expressed, “It doesn’t matter. I haven’t lived in the Cheng family for over twenty years anyway. I’m certainly not going back.”
“If we stay in K City for the New Year, we will definitely have to go back to the Shen house for dinner. I heard Brother Hailan and his fiancé have been traveling abroad. How about we also…?”
Shen Ran asked tentatively and received a nod from Cheng Yi.
“I have no objection. Tell me where you want to go, and I’ll handle the planning.”
“Yay!”
Shen Ran was full of excitement, preparing to open a world map and choose a destination blindly with his eyes closed.
But just then, the sound of the doorbell came from the entrance.
Who would be looking for them?
Shen Ran pulled back his excited smile. He and Cheng Yi had only moved here two days ago and hadn’t told any friends or family yet.
“I’ll go check.”
Cheng Yi said this while pulling up the video doorbell recording on his phone.
He stared at the screen, pressing his lips tight, seemingly deep in thought.
“Who is it?” Shen Ran asked.
“There’s nobody there. So, it’s likely Xia Xingyuan and the others coming to find you.”
