After The Web Novel Great God Transmigrated As A Scummy Online Dating Top - Chapter 16
Chapter 16
Due to the pandemic, graduation had been a fragmented affair, with students picking up their certificates at different times. To make up for the lack of closure, a few active class officers organized a final graduation dinner for those still in the city.
Neither the current Lin Muxue nor her predecessor had close ties with their classmates, but she agreed to go. The reason was simple: someone had DM’d her on QQ asking if she was interested in taking a job.
Searching her memories, Lin realized the person was Zhou Jiajia, a successful member of the online voice-acting CV circle. In the past, “Lin Muxue No. 2” had been resentful of Jiajia’s success, despite starting at the same time. But as a debt-ridden soul, the allure of a paycheck was far more persuasive than her “girlfriend’s” daily poetic texts.
…
The “Grave-Dancer” No More
The dinner was held at a mid-range restaurant chosen by the Class Monitor, a guy who liked to show off his modest family wealth.
When Lin Muxue arrived, a group of students stood by the entrance, surrounding a cozy young couple. Someone looked up, nudged their neighbor, and pointed toward the stairs. “Doesn’t that look like the ‘Grave-Dancer’?”
Because she used to dress like she was heading to a rave and wore makeup so thick it looked “welded” on, her detractors nicknamed her the “Grave-Dancing Girl.”
The Class Monitor’s eyes widened as he saw her. He caught the slight peek of her bleached highlights tucked into a loose, elegant braid, but the face looking back at him was as clear and beautiful as the moon.
“Look at the hair… it is her?” someone whispered in shock.
Lin Muxue approached. Hearing the nickname, she turned her deep, dark eyes toward the speaker and stared silently.
Today, she wore no garish makeup. Her hair was styled in a soft side braid with natural wisps framing her fair, oval face. Wearing a white-and-yellow square-neck dress, she looked the picture of gentle elegance. Yet, standing there in her rimless glasses, her calm gaze exerted an unsettling pressure.
The boy she was staring at turned bright red with awkwardness. The Class Monitor’s girlfriend, annoyed by the sudden attention Lin was receiving, sneered, “What’s this? Love at first sight? Zhao Qiang, is there something going on between you and Lin Muxue?”
The crowd laughed, waiting for a reaction. Lin Muxue didn’t get angry. She simply raised a finger and pointed to the boy’s cheek near his ear.
“Your foundation is cakey,” she said calmly. “You didn’t blend it out.”
Everyone: “???”
They leaned in to look. Sure enough, there was a visible patch of unblended makeup. “Wait, he’s wearing makeup today?” The focus instantly shifted, leaving the boy stammering in embarrassment.
Lin Muxue turned to the Class Monitor. “Monitor, has Zhou Jiajia arrived?”
The Monitor blinked, stunned by her transformation. He let go of his girlfriend’s hand and stepped toward Lin with a practiced, “charming” smile. “Not yet. Do you have business with her?”
He clearly wanted to strike up a conversation, but Lin Muxue just adjusted her glasses, gave a curt “Mm,” and retreated to a corner to look at her phone, radiating a “Do Not Disturb” energy.
…
The New “Cool Girl” Voice
A few minutes later, Zhou Jiajia arrived. She was a round-faced girl with big eyes and a bubbly personality. When she saw the beautiful girl in the white dress waving at her, she nearly checked her phone to make sure she was in the right place.
“Lin Muxue?” Jiajia ran over, eyes wide. “I didn’t realize you were this pretty! Why did you… uh, waste your potential before?”
“Personal hobby,” Lin Muxue replied smoothly.
“And now?”
“I’ve graduated,” Lin said with a straight face. “I can’t just pursue personal hobbies anymore; I have to fit the mainstream aesthetic.”
Jiajia nodded, impressed. She immediately pivoted to her real interest. “Your performance as the ‘Beauty Master’ in To Climb the Heavenly Ladder was incredible! I told you not to use those flashy, artificial techniques. Your natural voice is amazing!”
Lin Muxue smiled warmly. “Yes, I took a lot of detours before.”
“Exactly! You’ve finally found your style. You’re going to be huge, and then the commercial gigs will be easy to get.”
Jiajia explained that she was currently participating in a streaming platform competition. She wanted to collaborate with other streamers on a live voice-acting session to boost their rankings. After hearing Lin’s new “Cool, Clear, Natural Female Alpha” voice, she knew she had found the perfect partner.
While “low and husky” female voices were common, a voice that was clear, calm, and naturally authoritative—without sounding like a forced performance—was a rare gem.
“Honestly, I wanted to pull you into streaming earlier,” Jiajia whispered as they walked into the restaurant, ignoring the confused glares from the Class Monitor’s group. “Live streaming pays way better than just doing voice-over commissions.”
Lin Muxue’s eyes flickered. Her ears had caught the magic word: Money.
