- After the System Called Me Mom, My Arch-Nemesis Omega Fell for Me
- Chapter 41 - When their lips Finally Parted
Ten minutes ago.
Just as Jiang Mingyue stepped onto the VIP box floor, her phone rang. It was her mother.
“Mingyue, about the things on the livestream. I saw them. Xiao Lu is standing up for you again,” Jiang Mama said over the line.
“Yes.”
Jiang Mama: “…”
Noticing the signal was dropping, Jiang Mingyue took her phone toward the rooftop. Just as she stepped out of the elevator, she saw Lu Lingzhi heading up to the roof as well. Her mother’s call came through again.
“Has Xiao Lu turned into an Alpha?”
Jiang Mingyue asked curiously, “Mom, how did you know?”
“I guessed while watching the livestream,” Jiang Mama said. “So, when are you going to confess to her?”
Jiang Mingyue’s ears heated up at the sudden question. She whispered, “Mom, this… let’s take it slow. There’s no rush.”
“You need to hurry. Xiao Lu has been exceptionally good to you since you were kids. If you don’t seize the moment, she’ll slip away. I wanted to ask back when you were a freshman, and now you’re a sophomore. You didn’t come home for National Day, was it because of her?”
[Splash/Static Sound]
“So, when are you going to confess to Xiao Lu?”
Jiang Mingyue froze. The dialogue felt oddly familiar, but she replied, “Mom, take it slow, no rush.”
[Splash/Static Sound]
“So, when are you going to confess to Xiao Lu?”
This was the third time.
She had entered a loop again.
“Why aren’t you saying anything?”
Jiang Mingyue: “…”
[Splash/Static Sound]
“So, when are you going to confess to Xiao Lu? Why aren’t you saying anything?”
By the fifth time, even the kindest voice would have driven someone to a breaking point. Jiang Mingyue thought of her brother Jiang Mingzhao’s antics. She looked at Lu Lingzhi, who was oblivious to the loop and focused on her phone, then glanced at the couple in the corner still kissing passionately, trapped in time. She thought of the mess at home and her brother’s pressure…
The night breeze felt exceptionally lonely and bitter, carrying the heavy scent of a “single dog’s” resentment.
She was forced to sell her soul for the company, the person she liked was right in front of her but hadn’t even invited her to the ballet, others were flaunting their affection while she was being harassed by her mother’s “death calls” about her love life.
All the grievance, pressure, and irritability reached a peak.
Jiang Mingyue finally exploded, roaring into the phone: “Mom! Confess, confess! All you do is nag me to confess! Am I that bad? Am I unwanted? Why do I have to be the one ‘posting’ myself to her? Am I that impossible to marry off?!”
She finished her roar, panting. It felt good. She figured everything would just loop back in the next second anyway.
However…
The other end of the line fell into a deathly silence.
Seconds later, Jiang Mama’s disappointed voice came through: “Jiang Mingyue, look at yourself. I ask one kind question and you speak to your mother like this? Who spoiled you? Xiao Lu, I bet. I was right, only Xiao Lu could put up with your pretentious heiress temper. Look at her, she has no ‘Second Young Miss’ baggage. She started a livestream to clear your name, and you didn’t even give her a tip.”
You asked “one” question? You asked five times! Anyone would break!
I’m pretentious? I have a bad temper? Oh my god, my mom has started talking nonsense.
“No, Mom…”
“Fine. Since your wings have grown strong, your allowance is cut to three thousand starting this month. Reflect on yourself. Is this how you treat your mother? I think you’re getting too arrogant. If you don’t want a good life, go live a hard one.”
“Mom…”
“You’re even calling me ‘Mom’ just for money now.”
The call was disconnected, clean and sharp.
Jiang Mingyue stood frozen, staring at the darkened screen in disbelief.
Great. Wonderful.
Those damn “maniacs.” I just praised you yesterday for being useful, and today you pit me like this? Give you sunshine and you burn, give you rain and you flood.
The system loop had ended. It seemed that every time she saw Lu Lingzhi, the loop stopped automatically.
Lu Lingzhi ran toward her, muttering a few words of broken French. She seemingly hadn’t noticed Mingyue yet and was frantically pressing the button for the broken elevator. “Lu Er.”
“Jiang Mingyue?” Lu Lingzhi turned. “You… why are you here?”
Before she could think, Lu Lingzhi pulled Jiang Mingyue into the elevator, saying fearfully, “Pei Ying was kissing, sparks flying and I caught them. I even took a photo. Now Pei Ying is going to be furious.”
So, she had just happened to run into Pei Ying and Xie Zhixia.
Why did she come here? She wouldn’t have watched them kiss five times, would she?
[Ding-dong]
A shipping notification arrived. The “Blind Box” had shipped.
Lu Lingzhi shook her phone in front of Jiang Mingyue. “I finally drew the blind box! You have no idea, the signal in this theater is terrible.”
You made me get interrogated by my mom five times just to pull a blind box…
Pei Ying waited for a moment, but Lu Lingzhi didn’t react. She walked in just as the other elevator doors were closing. Through the slit in the lights, she saw two people inside.
Who was with Lu Lingzhi? Likely Jiang Mingyue.
Pei Ying was looking for a chance to contact Jiang Mingyue. She was about to announce new endorsements and level up her career. After the holiday, she had a fan meeting. Originally, she was supposed to stay at a Jian Group hotel, but their young master was in jail, and rumors said the company was selling off assets. Supposedly, the Jiang Group was acquiring the Cloud Peak Hot Spring Hotel, but the deal was stalled.
There were also rumors of internal issues within the Jiang Group.
The Jiang hotels were a national chain, well-known and professional. Jiang Mingyue had hosted her a few times before. Mingyue had good character, and the service was top-tier.
Xie Zhixia followed her in, looking around. “Pei Ying, what’s going on?”
Pei Ying brushed it off. “I must have recognized the wrong person.”
Xie Zhixia pressed the down button. “Go to VIP Box 2 for me and keep an eye on my sister. Don’t let her run off.”
Lu Lingzhi pulled Jiang Mingyue back to the VIP box. Her breathing was heavy. Between the joy of the rare blind box and the adrenaline of being caught “peeping,” she was in a state of high excitement.
The pheromones in her body were spreading. She sat quietly on the sofa, eyes closed, gripping the hem of her clothes to suppress the surging tide of emotion and power.
She had desires, appetite, greed, lust. She had never lacked love; she had her parents, her sister, friends, and even the “villains” like Xie Fuyun and Chang Xi surely loved her in their own way. She was confident and sunny.
Because of this, she valued respect. She truly wanted to respect those around her.
But the Alpha pheromones were like an awakened beast, searching for an exit. This was the consequence of watching a high-level Alpha and Omega kiss.
The light dimmed slightly, becoming soft. Jiang Mingyue had turned on the reading lamp.
Lu Lingzhi opened her eyes. In the hazy light, she saw Jiang Mingyue’s slender silhouette. Just that look caused the gland at the back of her neck to throb with heat. Her cherry pheromones became restless, sensing the “spring water” they craved, wanting to drag the other person into her domain.
If she spoke… if she gave even a hint…
She knew Jiang Mingyue probably wouldn’t refuse her. Out of gratitude? Responsibility? She didn’t dare think deeper.
But deep down, was there a trace of selfish joy? She had helped Mingyue in the livestream to thank her for the previous marking. Mingyue was a pampered princess, why should she be marked by her again?
If she used Jiang Mingyue to relieve herself today, there would be a second time, a third… until she was a slave to instinct.
And yet, she had no clear plan to make Jiang Mingyue her official girlfriend. What did that make Mingyue? A convenient, high-quality “friend with benefits”?
If she ever met someone she wanted to spend her life with and fully marked them… would she feel guilt looking back at today?
She couldn’t do this. Her sense of morality overrode her biological urge. She couldn’t hurt Jiang Mingyue. After today, she would move back to the dorms and reduce their meetings.
Lu Lingzhi took a deep breath. “Mingyue, can you… go out for a bit? Let me be alone…”
What she wanted to say was: Jiang Mingyue, don’t go. Hold me.
The sofa dipped beside her.
A body carrying the scent of Tulips leaned in. Jiang Mingyue didn’t speak, she simply placed a cool, gentle hand over Lu Lingzhi’s trembling ones. Then, she wrapped her arms around her in a protective, soothing embrace.
She leaned her head on Lu Lingzhi’s shoulder. Ever since Chang Xi confessed the past misunderstandings, Mingyue had wanted to tell Lu Lingzhi: I never betrayed you.
She loved her to her core. How could she have leaked Lu’s secrets to Jiang Mingzhao?
“Lu Lingzhi, I’m not leaving… I…” The words caught in her throat because she suddenly met Lu Lingzhi’s eyes. One of Lu’s pupils had turned…
Deep Azure.
As deep as a polar glacier, as magnificent as a star filled vortex. It was an inhuman beauty that stole her breath.
A thought flashed through her mind: Lu Lingzhi is definitely evolving into a top-tier Alpha.
“Jiang Mingyue.” Lu Lingzhi gently pushed her hands away and pulled her onto her lap. She touched Mingyue’s cheek, the skin was like warm jade. “I gave you a chance.”
“Now, you chose this.” Her gaze locked onto Mingyue’s. “I’m asking one last time… do you really not regret it?”
Jiang Mingyue met that oppressive, intoxicating blue gaze. Her lashes fluttered, and a blush crept up her face. “I don’t regret it.”
Lu Lingzhi hesitated no longer. She pulled her into her arms, her breath falling on the fragile neck. It was like cherry juice spilling over golden tulip petals.
Jiang Mingyue tried to hold her face, but the world spun. She was laid back into the soft sofa, then she crawled back on top of Lu Lingzhi. “Your hand will go numb… it will be uncomfortable for you on the bottom.”
She remembered Lu’s hand being numb after a whole night of being a pillow.
“Won’t you feel bad?” Mingyue thought of how Alphas have territorial instincts and don’t like being “controlled” by Omegas.
Lu Lingzhi didn’t answer, she used action to seal the worry.
The kiss moved upward, seizing her lips, strong yet tender, greedily drinking in her scent. The sweetness of cherry and the cool of tulip melded, filling the box with a suffocating intensity.
When their lips finally parted, a silver thread of saliva lingered between them.
Jiang Mingyue’s eyes were misty. She offered a soft kiss to that single azure eye. Why was it blue? If both were that color, she would be a masterpiece of the gods. And this treasure belonged to her.
“Lu Lingzhi, you are so beautiful.”
“You are the most beautiful Alpha in the world. I want to…”
Lu Lingzhi still loved flattery, especially from the cold Jiang Mingyue. She sat up, keeping Mingyue on her lap but turning her around so her back was to her.
She brushed away the silk-like black hair, revealing the porcelain white neck and the fragrant, slightly swollen gland.
Lu Lingzhi leaned down and took that warm skin into her mouth. Her canines grazed the area with agonizing tenderness.
Jiang Mingyue trembled, letting out a stifled whimper, her fingers gripping Lu’s. Lu Lingzhi intertwined their fingers, holding her hand firmly.
Only when the Omega had gone completely soft in her arms, like melting spring water, did Lu Lingzhi release her teeth, though she continued to kiss and lick the spot, leaving her mark.
Outside, the overture to Swan Lake drifted in. It was mournful and elegant, the perfect background for the ambiguity inside the room.
Reason, worry, the future… everything was cast aside. Only primal longing remained.
Lu Lingzhi knew she had crossed the line. She wouldn’t look back. She let herself drown in the fragrant sea that was Jiang Mingyue, thinking: So be it.
She provoked me first. And she chose to stay.
As the pleasure faded, Lu Lingzhi remembered something. “Jiang Mingyue, why did you come to the theater? Was it just for the ballet, or something important?”
Just then…
[Creak]
The door opened. A dark shadow slipped inside. Lu Lingzhi stood up, shielding Jiang Mingyue in her arms, her voice low and annoyed at being interrupted:
“Who is it?”
