After the System Called Me Mom, My Arch-Nemesis Omega Fell for Me - Chapter 27.1
“Ding-dong.”
The next respawn point appeared.
The “Resurrected NPC” Dean Jian returned once more. This time, Jiang Mingyue bolted out of the elevator immediately, leaving the Dean standing there looking bewildered at the girl’s retreating back.
She headed for the stairs. Fewer people used them, which meant she wouldn’t have to deal with people suddenly appearing and disappearing. Her heart couldn’t take it.
[Whoosh]
Jiang Mingyue was teleported yet again, back into the elevator.
Are they treating me like a ‘Recall’ spell in a video game?
“…”
Jiang Mingyue took a deep breath, forcing down the urge to hurl the assignments at the elevator doors. Fine! You win! Forced teleportation, is it?
She stared at the floor buttons. Instead of “6,” she stabbed “2” aggressively. The elevator stopped at the second floor. The moment the doors opened, she rushed out.
This was the School of Psychology. She decided to sit somewhere for a while and wait for the loop to end before turning in the work.
At a corner in the hallway, she saw a familiar figure curled up in pain. The person was clutching their abdomen, leaning against the wall, body trembling. Sweat-soaked hair clung to a pale face. It was Dr. Chang Xi.
“Dr. Chang, what’s wrong?”
“It’s… it’s nothing,” Chang Xi’s voice was thin as a thread. “Just… an old problem. Period cramps. This time is a bit severe.” She took a deep breath, trying to soothe the sharp pain. “Could you… help me back to my office?”
“Of course.” Jiang Mingyue supported Chang Xi’s arm, practically half-carrying her toward the Dean’s office nearby.
After settling Chang Xi into the large office chair, Jiang Mingyue quickly found a cup, poured some hot water, and held it to her lips. “Dr. Chang, have some hot water.”
Chang Xi took small sips, the warmth helping to dull the pain. She closed her eyes and leaned back. After a long while, she finally opened them. Though she was still pale, some life had returned to her gaze.
“Thank you, Student Jiang.” Chang Xi saw the worry on the girl’s face and forced a smile. “Did you come to see me for something? Have you thought about what I mentioned before?”
She was referring to her offer for Jiang Mingyue to transfer to the School of Psychology as her personal student.
Jiang Mingyue had thought it through at least partially. At the very least, coming to see Chang Xi via the stairs would be easier than dealing with elevator horrors. She was truly being scared to death. However, she had studied clinical medicine for a year, it felt like a waste to give it up.
“There’s no rush for that. Dr. Chang, you should rest first.”
Chang Xi pulled a drawer open and slid a printed form across the desk. “This is the transfer application for the School of Psychology. If you decide, fill it out. From then on, you’ll be a student here. My only student.”
“Are you taking me on as your final disciple?”
Chang Xi nodded. “Yes. You’ll be my final disciple, and Student Lu will be Xie Fuyun’s. Since Xie Fuyun and I live together, it’ll be much more convenient for me to arrange for you two to meet on weekends.”
Chang Xi’s actual plan was to move both of them into the villa. Keeping them under her nose was the safest bet.
Chang Xi leaned back as if remembering something. “By the way, I might be quite busy lately and might miss some things. Student Lu might call me for consultation or help. I’m afraid I’ll miss it, so I’ve set her calls to forward to your private number. If she calls, please handle it for me first.”
Jiang Mingyue looked at Chang Xi, whose face was written with: Look how much I’m looking out for you. Be my student, I’ll solve your academics and career, and help you chase your girlfriend on the side. I’m a one-stop service.
“Dr. Chang, why are you and CEO Xie so good to me and Lu Lingzhi?”
Chang Xi and Xie Fuyun were both elite professors, outstanding in their respective fields. Jiang Mingyue and Lu Lingzhi came from prominent families in Yun City, but they weren’t exactly at the top of the food chain in the capital, where geniuses gathered from all over. Jiang Mingyue was self-aware enough to wonder.
“I choose my students based on chemistry, looks, and brains. As for Xie Fuyun, she was entrusted by the Lu family to discipline Student Lu.”
Cloud Top Hot Spring Hotel
Lu Lingzhi leaned lazily on a lounge chair by the floor to ceiling window. She had Dr. Chang Xi’s contact page open on her phone, which sat on the nightstand.
As night fell, looking down from twenty stories up, the lights of the capital were like a flowing river of stars. The river reflected the city’s neon and the starlight, weaving a breathtaking tapestry of urban prosperity.
She had just taken the pills Chang Xi prescribed to prevent secondary differentiation stress. She felt the calm of the medication.
Day one passed peacefully. Day two passed peacefully.
On the morning of the third day, the hotel waiter delivered warm milk on time. Lu Lingzhi was in a good mood after drinking the milk, she huddled back into her duvet to continue sleeping.
However, that peace was utterly shattered in the afternoon.
A spark, without warning, ignited the piled-up dry wood.
Lu Lingzhi jerked awake from her nap, roused by a sudden explosion of heat from the deepest part of her body. She sat up and took a sip of cold water.
Something’s wrong. That medication was supposed to last five days.
“It’s so hot… why is it so hot?”
Every breath felt like a burning flame. It was stifling, so stifling she could hardly breathe. She undid the top button of her silk pajamas, exposing her pale skin. Sweat instantly soaked the thin fabric, making it cling to her skin uncomfortably.
She checked the room temperature. She had set it to 25°C earlier. She dropped it to 16°C. Cold air immediately flooded the room, but Lu Lingzhi didn’t feel any relief. She curled up in agony, feeling both freezing and boiling at the same time.
Her cheeks were scorching, a deep flush like being drunk, and even the tips of her ears were red as blood. She struggled, gasping like a fish out of water as she pushed herself up from the bed.
Her Susceptible Period had broken out. No, this was different, it was even more abnormal than her first heat when she had differentiated into an Omega.
Phone… phone… right, Little Mommy.
Her forehead was covered in fine beads of sweat, and her vision blurred. Her fingertips were so slick with sweat that it took several tries to unlock the screen. When she finally did, Chang Xi’s contact page was right there. A hot drop of sweat fell onto the screen, blurring a small patch.
The icon was tapped.
“Ring… ring… ring…”
In the silent room, the only sounds were the dial tone and her own heavy, ragged breathing.
The call was answered.
