- Chapter 19 - Comfort
Hormonal imbalance was no trivial matter like a common cold or fever.
At its mildest, it could disrupt the regularity of heat or rut cycles. At its worst, it could plunge someone into prolonged extreme conditions.
For instance, what should have been a three-day special period might stretch to seven or eight days, or even longer.
But… hadn’t she already been marked? That day, they had even consummated the relationship. Could that not counteract the drug’s harm to her?
Bian You pressed her lips together, her expression grim. “You said there are signs, meaning it’s still reversible?”
The doctor nodded. “It’s still in the early stages. Timely intervention can reverse it. But if it progresses to the mid or late stages… you know the consequences.”
Bian You turned to look at the person lying on the bed. Even with an IV drip, her condition didn’t seem to be improving much.
“What should we do now?”
The doctor replied, “Does Miss Qi have an Alpha? If so, they could come and provide hormonal comfort to help her stabilize through this heat. Afterward, she should come to the hospital for a full examination so we can tailor intervention measures to her specific situation.”
As she spoke, her eyes occasionally flickered toward Bian You. She had, of course, seen the online rumors about Bian You being marked. Seeing them together now made it obvious who had marked Bian You.
What puzzled her was, if they were truly a couple, why would they do nothing and let the Omega suffer through her heat like this?
“…”
Bian You rubbed her temples. “Are there any other options?”
This time, before answering, the doctor glanced at Qi Zhi’e beside them and lowered her voice. “During a heat… do I really need to explain what needs to be done?”
Bian You’s face stiffened slightly. If she dared to do anything, she could hardly imagine how Qi Zhi’e would react upon waking up.
“This is all I can do for now. Of course, you could also take her to the hospital for suppressants, but that’s only a temporary fix. It would cause serious harm to her body. Think it over carefully. I’ll take my leave now. Call me if you have any questions.”
Bian You looked at Qi Zhi’e, who lay curled up on the bed, vulnerable and insecure. One hand was hooked to an IV drip, looking terribly frail.
After seeing the doctor to the door and listening to her instructions on removing the IV, Bian You took it all in, though an undercurrent of agitation remained.
No matter what choice she made, none seemed ideal.
Returning to the room, Bian You gazed at the flushed face on the bed. Her usually bright and composed features were now clouded with worry. The heavy scent of lily of the valley in the air was overwhelming, and the ineffective hum of the air purifier did little to help. The composure she had maintained in front of the doctor crumbled, her shoulders slumping in exhaustion.
As an Alpha marked by Qi Zhi’e, the potent fragrance affected her deeply, every wisp of it tugging at her sensitive nerves, bending her to the will of primal desire.
Her body burned, her chest tight with restless heat, and a certain part of her throbbed with unbearable shame.
Bian You lowered her eyes, biting her lip as embarrassment flooded her gaze. Reaching out, she took Qi Zhi’e’s hand chilled from the IV drip into her own.
She tried to wake Qi Zhi’e to ask for her opinion, but Qi Zhi’e seemed truly delirious from the fever, showing no response to her words and even faintly finding her chatter disruptive to rest.
Bian You: “…”
Placing a hand on her own neck and taking a deep breath, Bian You seemed to make some resolution. Looking at Qi Zhi’e’s fever-flushed face, she tremblingly reached out to tilt her head to the side, exposing the skin at the nape of her neck.
Her fingertips pinched the edge of the scent blocker patch. With a trembling heart, she peeled it off, only to discover Qi Zhi’e’s reddened gland had secreted copious amounts of fluid. Though transparent, it inexplicably exuded an intensely erotic quality that made one’s eyes burn.
Holding her breath, Bian You lightly touched it with her fingertips. The slightly warm liquid moistened her fingers, and an odd sensation suddenly rose in Bian You’s heart.
Even during that chaotic night, she had never touched this place before.
There wasn’t much difference from an Alpha’s gland – same structure, same way it secreted indescribable fluids when aroused.
Bian You used tissues to wipe away the fluid, but soon more would secrete anew. Qi Zhi’e also seemed to moan comfortably in response, her previously tightly furrowed brows relaxing considerably.
“After you wake up, I’ll leave myself at your mercy,” Bian You said with barely suppressed panting, though her words came out like a sigh.
The moment Bian You leaned down to press against Qi Zhi’e’s gland, her entire body felt as if electrified, a tingling numbness sparking waves of pleasure.
In her feverish haze, Qi Zhi’e only knew to instinctively burrow toward the familiar-scented embrace, pressing close and writhing to alleviate her discomfort.
Her tongue lightly licked, as if tasting sweet spring water – clean and refreshing without any strange odors.
Her nose twitched slightly, detecting no trace of any scent that didn’t belong to Qi Zhi’e.
This gland was pristine.
No one had ever touched it before.
Bian You couldn’t describe her current emotions. Beads of cold sweat had formed on her forehead as she restrained the impulse to bite down, instead placing gentle kisses across Qi Zhi’e’s gland.
Careful not to press on Qi Zhi’e’s IV hand, Bian You’s mind grew increasingly dazed as she suckled at the gland, breathing heavily.
As her ministrations grew more stimulating, Qi Zhi’e’s complexion visibly improved, the unnatural flush on her face gradually fading.
Bian You watched as she seemed like a contented cat, her previously curled body stretching out comfortably before she turned on her side and fell deeply asleep.
She was comfortable now, but Bian You wasn’t faring as well.
The excess pheromones made Bian You increasingly wish her Omega would wake to soothe her disordered emotions.
With a soft sigh at the sleeping figure, Bian You walked unsteadily out of the bedroom. Having skipped breakfast and gone through this ordeal, she felt exhausted and uncomfortably empty.
After washing up and ordering breakfast delivery, she dared not stay away from Qi Zhi’e for long, fearing sudden complications. But staying by her side presented its own challenge – how to keep from being affected enough to do something even more inappropriate.
With heavy steps, Bian You entered the room, breathing in the sweet scent of lily of the valley in the air. She couldn’t help but suspect that Qi Zhi’e’s air purifier had been compromised, why else would the concentration of pheromones remain so high?
Enduring the restless heat in her chest, she curled up beside Qi Zhi’e, lying as close as possible.
Just as she was drifting into a drowsy slumber, a sharp pain jolted her awake.
Bian You’s eyes flew open to find someone pressing down on her, leaving her speechless.
