- Chapter 20 - Waaaah, You Bastard!
“Were you not just rushing me? Why the change of face now?”
“Fuck! You clearly know why I was rushing you!”
Ye Lin truly could not take it anymore. He felt as though he were losing his mind. It was like standing on a beach where waves kept crashing over him. Sometimes they were massive swells that submerged him entirely, making him feel as if he might faint. At other times, they were low, gentle ripples that barely brushed his heels like a tickle. Most of them were small waves, but the occasional giant one was impossible to withstand.
If Gu Jiazhi had not been supporting him, he really would have collapsed onto the floor. The mirror was blurred by steam, creating a hazy white sheet that hid their faces. Ye Lin gripped the edge of the sink with such force that his knuckles turned pink.
His breath was scorching, like steam rising from a pot, and fine beads of sweat formed on his forehead from the heat. He finally managed to catch an opening to curse, though it sounded more like he was acting spoiled. “You bastard, you cannot do that anymore!”
Gu Jiazhi noticed that Ye Lin’s knees were rubbed red, making him look truly pitiful. He finally picked the boy up. “Fine, let us head back to the room.”
Ye Lin’s center of gravity shifted and his head nearly flopped over. He quickly threw his arms around Gu Jiazhi’s shoulders and snapped, “Are you crazy? Doing that out of nowhere!”
Gu Jiazhi gave him a light pat and teased him deliberately. “You seem fine to me. You still have the energy to scold people, so how can you say you are finished?”
Realizing that Gu Jiazhi intended to walk back slowly, Ye Lin shrieked, “Gu Jiazhi! You brain-dead idiot! You cannot walk back like this!”
Gu Jiazhi feigned innocence and continued walking. “Well, can I fly back then? You are being unreasonable. I do not have wings.”
Ye Lin let out a sharp cry. His head fell back to reveal his pale neck before quickly dropping forward again. He could no longer speak. Even the hands gripping Gu Jiazhi’s shoulders lost their strength and slid down limply. He was like a fainted swan, nestled in his master’s arms, unable to flap his wings any longer.
Gu Jiazhi gently patted his back in mock comfort. “Do you succubi not have wings? Why do you not just spread them and fly back?”
Ye Lin hated him so much that he opened his mouth to bite him, but he lacked his usual ferocity and left only a shallow mark. “You really should just die!”
“If I die, who is going to help you manage your hunger level?”
“The world is full of men. Do you think I am desperate for you?”
“Ye Lin!”
Gu Jiazhi could not stand hearing such things. He wanted Ye Lin to come only to him. He absolutely could not let him seek out other men. The thought made him feel a flare of possessive irritation, making him wish he could hide Ye Lin away where no one else could ever find him.
Current money growth rate: 220,000 yuan per hour.
Ye Lin experienced a sensation he had never known before. His eyes went glassy and he nearly lost consciousness. He began to tremble uncontrollably. Then, leaning against Gu Jiazhi, he started to cry. Tears fell like crystal beads, wetting the back of Gu Jiazhi’s clothes. He could not help it. He suddenly felt an overwhelming urge to sob and he could not stop.
Gu Jiazhi set him down and warned him with a cold face. “I told you, if you want to solve your hunger level, you should come to me. But you never listen!”
Ye Lin continued to sob in hitches while remaining silent. The corners of his eyes and the tip of his nose were red, his lips were bitten raw, and his body was still shaking. He looked like a startled rabbit. It was truly a pitiful sight. Having finished scaring him, it was time to coax him. Satisfied, Gu Jiazhi leaned in for a kiss.
Slap!
He was met with a stinging blow to the face. Half of his cheek immediately turned red. Gu Jiazhi was about to lecture him when another slap landed, causing his face to swell. “Ye Lin, do not be too much!”
Before he could finish, Ye Lin’s foot lashed out. The kick was powerful, catching him square in the chest and sending him tumbling backward. His head hit a nearby table with a loud thud and he hissed in pain. Ye Lin’s breathing had not yet steadied, but his eyes were filled with hatred. He grabbed a vase from the bedside table and hurled it.
Before Gu Jiazhi could react, the vase struck his heel. He wailed in agony. “You are actually trying to kill me!”
Ye Lin glared at him, sounding entirely justified. “I was kind enough not to cripple you for life. Who told you to deliberately torture me just now!”
Gu Jiazhi could not follow Ye Lin’s logic, but when he looked up at Ye Lin’s face, his anger evaporated. He teased him playfully. “How did I torture you? You clearly liked it just now, and even more!”
Ye Lin picked up an ashtray, ready to throw it. Gu Jiazhi finally felt a flash of fear. He scrambled up to coax him. “Alright, alright! I was wrong. I should not have tortured you.”
Only then did Ye Lin put down the ashtray. He poked Gu Jiazhi hard in the chest. “Gu Jiazhi, I am staying here and letting you help me because I consider you a friend. When I strike it rich in the future, I will take you with me. But that is only if you never do something that out of line again!”
His eyes were watery, which easily stirred a protective instinct, but his posture was not submissive at all. He remained haughty, creating a beautiful sense of contradiction. Gu Jiazhi was not really listening to the words. He grabbed Ye Lin’s hand to kiss it and swore solemnly. “I promise, I will listen to everything you say from now on.”
Ye Lin waved him off, clearly not believing a word. “Stop with that sweet talk for girls routine. A man’s vow is just hot air. I can make vows too, but you do not want to hear them.”
Gu Jiazhi laughed and pulled him into a hug. “If you vow to only come to me to solve your problem, I will believe that.”
Ye Lin did not understand why the guy was so fixated on this point, but he gave it a moment of thought. Gu Jiazhi probably wanted to be the sole keeper of this secret. That way, when Ye Lin became successful, Gu Jiazhi could use this favor to ask for rewards. It was also a testament to their close relationship. Since Gu Jiazhi wanted a commitment, he would give him one.
He certainly did not want others knowing about his succubus form as that would be too dangerous. Ye Lin promised earnestly, “I was only going to go to you anyway. Besides you, there is no one else I truly trust.”
These were exactly the words Gu Jiazhi wanted to hear. He suddenly felt a surge of security. “Let me tell you, Liang Wenle is neurotic. Getting too close to him is just asking for trouble.”
Ye Lin nodded in agreement. “Liang Wenle’s head really does have issues. But he has his uses, so I will keep him on the hook for now.”
Gu Jiazhi’s face darkened again. He had not realized that his mood had become unstable because of Ye Lin, often fluctuating between gain and loss. Thinking of his twin brother, Gu Zhe, he realized that was the real trouble.
Ye Lin asked tentatively, “Your brother is hard to get along with, is he not? People say he is stuffy, like an old man.”
Gu Jiazhi’s attention was diverted. He nodded repeatedly and joined in the ridicule. “He is incredibly old-fashioned and acts like he is sick. Yet for some reason, plenty of people like him.”
Satisfied, Ye Lin patted his shoulder. “I think that twin brother of yours is not even fit to carry your shoes. He definitely will not be as successful as you. Do not worry, I will help you deal with him in the future.”
Gu Jiazhi was confused. “Do you have a grudge against Gu Zhe?”
Ye Lin, a master of lying, replied without missing a beat. “I do. Back when everyone was calling me a bastard, he was right there in the mix. He is a total hypocrite.”
Gu Jiazhi knew his brother’s personality. Gu Zhe was unlikely to join a crowd to insult someone. However, he was glad that Ye Lin hated him. “Right? So if you ever run into him, make sure you do not mistake him for me!”
Even though he had recently mistaken Gu Zhe for him and even kissed him, Ye Lin did not feel the slightest bit of guilt. “Don’t worry. Your brother is gloomy and cold. He is nowhere near as sunny and pleasant to look at as you are.”
Gu Jiazhi was delighted. Aside from Liang Wenle, Ye Lin was the second person to help him bash Gu Zhe. “Then let us go again. It was not enough just now.”
Ye Lin refused sternly, but after being pestered by Gu Jiazhi, he eventually gave in and helped him by hand. At the very least, Gu Jiazhi had solved his hunger level and earned him over a million yuan. It was not a bad trade.
However, Gu Jiazhi’s face and ankles were swollen. After applying medicine and bandages, he had to stay in bed and could not go out. Fortunately, Liang Wenle did not look for Ye Lin for a few days, so Ye Lin could stay home and keep him company. After lunch, the golden sunlight streamed through the floor-to-ceiling windows and fell over the two of them. It was warm and comfortable.
Gu Jiazhi stretched his legs out and leaned against Ye Lin with his eyes squinted, complaining about how his face and feet ached. He demanded that Ye Lin change his bandages and bring him drinks and snacks. Usually, he did not care for snacks, but today he insisted on ordering Ye Lin around. After changing the bandages as instructed, Ye Lin went to the coffee table to set out the drinks and snacks. But the guy did not even eat them. He just kept kissing Ye Lin, claiming it was to eliminate his hunger level.
The hunger level was at zero, so there was nothing to eliminate. Ye Lin got annoyed with his clinginess and snapped, “Are you sick? If you were not going to eat, why did you make me bring these over?”
Gu Jiazhi slapped the armrest of the sofa and complained unhappily, “When Liang Wenle makes you go far away to buy cake and fruit tea, you are all smiles and even coax him. But when I ask you to get a snack from the next room, you lose your patience and yell at me!”
Ye Lin exposed him heartlessly. “So Liang Wenle is dramatic and you want to copy him?”
Gu Jiazhi hated being compared to Liang Wenle. He quickly tried to clear his name. “I am not copying him! It is just that you caused my injuries, yet you have no patience when taking care of me. That is too much!”
Ye Lin pushed him away and took a sip of a cold drink to cool his temper. “You brought those injuries on yourself, yet you are blaming me! Besides, Liang Wenle is my boyfriend. It is normal for me to coax him. What are you to me that I should have to coax you?”
Gu Jiazhi could not stand hearing this. He trembled with rage, no longer able to maintain the Liang Wenle act, and emphasized the facts with a serious expression. “Ye Lin! Get this straight! You are eating my food and living in my house. Should you not have a better attitude toward me?”
Ye Lin stood up immediately and looked at Gu Jiazhi with disappointment. “After all this time, you actually see yourself as a landlord, do you not? Fine! If you do not want me here, there are plenty of other places I can go!”
As soon as he finished, he hurried to the front door and slammed it shut as he left. Gu Jiazhi was slow to get up and could not catch him. Ye Lin caught a taxi outside and told the driver to head to a random park. He was already annoyed today, and being pestered by Gu Jiazhi had made him even more irritable.
He could not understand it. Where had the breezy, straightforward Gu Jiazhi gone? Why had he turned into a suspicious, illogical idiot? He had really admired Gu Jiazhi, but today he was truly disgusted. Ye Lin had very clear boundaries. He could act in front of his boss, Liang Wenle, but he would not act in front of his good friend, Gu Jiazhi. Because of that, he found the behavior of Gu Jiazhi utterly incomprehensible.
