- Chapter 13 - Just Apply the Medicine, Do Not Mess Around
As soon as they entered the door, Ye Lin wanted to apply the medicine himself. He paced around anxiously, terrified that he might have cancer and drop dead the next second.
Gu Jiazhi was in no hurry to hand over the medicine. Instead, he mocked, “Cancer does not kill you instantly. What is the rush?”
Ye Lin swatted him indignantly, his voice loud with complaint. “It is not you who has cancer, so of course you are not worried! Hurry up!”
Gu Jiazhi took out the ointment and explained the precautions and instructions. “I should help you apply it. It is inconvenient for you to do it alone.”
Thinking of the scene of applying the medicine, the tips of Ye Lin’s ears grew hot. He quickly snatched the ointment from Gu Jiazhi’s hand. “I can do it myself!”
Gu Jiazhi pointed toward the bathroom, gesturing for him to go in and use the toilet area. Ye Lin dashed inside and slammed the door shut.
Gu Jiazhi was certain that with Ye Lin’s simple mind, he would definitely fail to apply it correctly and would eventually have to ask for help. Sure enough, only three minutes later, Ye Lin’s voice rang out, “Help me! This stupid medicine is useless!”
Gu Jiazhi walked over triumphantly and led him into the bedroom. The room had been completely refreshed; the clutter and messy clothes had been cleared away, and a faint, botanical fragrance lingered in the air.
Ye Lin lay clutching a pillow while playing on his phone. He suddenly felt a cool sensation, like eating a peppermint candy, and the pain eased slightly. However, beyond the relief, there was an itchy sensation—the kind that comes when new flesh grows after an injury. It felt tingly and numb, like an electric current passing through.
“Gu Jiazhi, just apply the medicine! Do not mess around!” Ye Lin could no longer control his game character. He gripped the pillow tightly and made his demand to Gu Jiazhi behind him.
“Alright, alright. I will be done applying it soon.” Whenever Gu Jiazhi thought about this boy ditching him to date Liang Wenle, resentment bubbled up, causing his actions to take on a hint of retaliation.
Ye Lin was clearly the one asking for help, yet he made demands so righteously. Did he truly consider Gu Jiazhi a convenient servant? The more Gu Jiazhi thought about it, the more annoyed he became. He applied more pressure and deliberately chose awkward angles just to make things difficult for Ye Lin.
“You!” Ye Lin gritted his teeth, attempting to stifle his voice. He quickly put his phone down and turned his head to look at Gu Jiazhi. “Are you sick? Why—why are you doing this!”
“The instructions say to ensure the ointment is applied to every affected area. Otherwise, it might become infected and leak pus, and then you would need surgery for an excision.”
“Really? Let me see the instructions.”
“Here.”
Ye Lin took the instructions with a flushed face, only to find they were covered in dense English text. He could not understand a single word and involuntarily crumpled the edges of the paper.
What kind of trash ointment is this? It is all in English!
Gu Jiazhi knew Ye Lin lacked academic ink. Noticing his confused gaze, he intentionally deceived him. “See? That is exactly what it says. You are not telling me you cannot read it, are you?”
How could Ye Lin admit he could not read it in front of his “good brother”? That would make him look pathetic. He put the instructions down. “I understand it. It just says to apply it carefully. Hurry up.”
[Succubus System Notification: Current money growth rate is 90,000 per hour.]
90,000?
In conversion, that meant 9cm. Indeed, the fingers of an adult male were roughly that length.
As Ye Lin was thinking, a familiar sensation suddenly hit him. He became speechless, unable to focus on anything else. “Gu—Gu Jiazhi, you…”
“Why are you calling me again? Do you not like it very much?”
“What nonsense are you talking about! I—I just…”
Ye Lin’s cheeks were bright red, looking like a piece of delicious fruit that would burst with sweet juice if bitten. Gu Jiazhi could not control himself; he leaned over to kiss him, silencing Ye Lin’s voice.
While applying the medicine, Gu Jiazhi had been thinking that it was fortunate Liang Wenle had not “tasted” Ye Lin today and did not know such a wonderful flavor. His gloomy mood finally dissipated, replaced by secret joy.
After the medicine was applied, both were covered in sweat. They had assisted each other, leaving the floor in a mess.
Ye Lin inhaled and exhaled slowly. Looking at Gu Jiazhi beside him, anger flared in his gut again. He raised his hand to strike, but his wrist was caught.
Gu Jiazhi looked at the top of his head. “You are a succubus with a Hunger Value. I was just helping you dissipate it. This is a good deed; why are you hitting me?”
Ye Lin’s face turned red with rage. “The Hunger Value has not even reached 10 these past two days! Where was the need for help? I think you are just torturing me on purpose!”
Gu Jiazhi remained shamelessly consistent. “Then I am helping you with prevention. If it stays at 0, you have nothing to worry about.”
Ye Lin wanted to lose his temper further, but he was too exhausted. He lay down to rest and checked his assets.
[Host’s current assets: 4 million.]
Fine, at least the ordeal had a good result. In fact, humans are easily addicted. Once one has experienced an easy way to make money, it is hard to return to the old, hard-working ways. After seeing the figure of 4 million, Ye Lin no longer felt much resistance toward earning money through the Succubus System. He felt that since he and Gu Jiazhi were close, it did not matter much.
Gu Jiazhi waved his hand in front of him. “What are you thinking about?”
Ye Lin swatted his hand away and closed his eyes. “Nothing. I want to sleep. Go back to your own room.”
Gu Jiazhi pulled him close and pressed against him. “Too lazy to walk. I am resting here today.”
Ye Lin pushed his face away in disgust. “It is boiling! Your house has so many rooms; why do you have to squeeze in with me?”
Gu Jiazhi lowered the air conditioning temperature. “It is not hot. It will be fine once the temperature is down. Besides, we are good brothers. What is wrong with a little squeezing?”
Ye Lin sighed, too tired to argue. They had slept side-by-side before, so he figured it was no big deal. Soon, he fell into a shallow sleep.
Gu Jiazhi could not sleep. He stared at Ye Lin for a long time before taking out his phone to browse. His social circle overlapped heavily with Liang Wenle’s, and many people were messaging him to discuss Liang Wenle and Ye Lin.
A friend sent a candid photo of the two in the lecture hall. From the side angle, Ye Lin was leaning against Liang Wenle’s shoulder in a “little bird clinging to a person” pose. He looked deeply dependent, as if he truly regarded Liang Wenle as his boyfriend. Liang Wenle was turned slightly, playing with Ye Lin’s hand. His expression was a rare mix of disdain and gentleness.
No wonder everyone said they were dating. The friend messaged Gu Jiazhi excitedly:
[How did Wenle fall for this kid? He is just good-looking, right?] [I heard they even go to school and eat together. They are really dating.] [I truly do not get it. Ye Lin is just an illegitimate son who cannot be presented in public. What does Wenle see in him?]
Gu Jiazhi felt irritable reading these. He turned to look at the sleeping Ye Lin. Ye Lin was lying on his side, his hand partially covered by the blanket. His skin was delicate and white, his eyelashes thick and curled, and his expression was as peaceful as a child’s. He indeed had some charm, but he was hopelessly stupid.
Gu Jiazhi typed a reply:
[Did you not say it yourself? Wenle thinks Ye Lin is good-looking.] [But there are plenty of good-looking guys. Is Sheng Shao not better looking than Ye Lin? I do not get why Wenle suddenly changed his taste.] [Everyone has different tastes. Wenle probably wanted a change of pace.] [Jiazhi, you are weird today. You used to mock Ye Lin, but today you are speaking up for him.]
Gu Jiazhi was startled by this message. He realized he had been acting like a fool today—getting angry over Ye Lin’s date with Liang Wenle and letting Ye Lin order him around. Why should Ye Lin get to do that?
He frantically typed an explanation:
[I just do not think it is that strange. Everyone just wants to treat Ye Lin as a bit of fun. Wenle will get bored of him after a while.] [True. I also think Ye Lin is just for playing around; he is not worth any real sincerity.]
Gu Jiazhi agreed with this view and sent several messages in accord before closing his phone. Beside him, Ye Lin’s lips moved slightly as he turned over. Gu Jiazhi held him from behind, burying his face in the crook of Ye Lin’s neck and sniffing obsessively.
He felt his friend was right. Everyone just wanted to play with Ye Lin. How could anyone give him their heart? The only reason he cared about Ye Lin seeing Liang Wenle and why he was willing to be ordered around was because he had not played enough yet.
He slept without dreams until noon the next day. Gu Jiazhi had not slept so long in a while; he felt refreshed and full of vitality. However, he felt very hot, as if he were holding a furnace.
Ye Lin’s cheeks were flushed deep red, and his breathing was uneven. Gu Jiazhi reached out to touch his forehead; he had a fever. Gu Jiazhi then remembered he had set the temperature too low last night, and since Ye Lin was a restless sleeper who kicked off the blankets, he had caught a cold.
He immediately got up to call a private doctor, then washed up and prepared to go to class. It was just a minor illness; the doctor would be enough. But only thirty seconds after leaving, he returned home. It was not exactly to take care of Ye Lin; he just felt like he did not enjoy classes anyway and might as well rest at home. He instructed the nanny to prepare food helpful for recovery and sat in the bedroom to wait for the doctor.
After the doctor arrived, he confirmed several causes for the illness and specifically warned Gu Jiazhi, “The patient needs to stay warm and not catch another chill. Take the medicine on time. Also… ‘that kind of thing’ should be done less often.”
Gu Jiazhi’s ears turned slightly red. He obviously knew what “that” referred to. He quickly saw the doctor out. Heaven knows Ye Lin’s constitution is so poor; he gets sick after just a little tossing. What a handful!
Cursing under his breath, Gu Jiazhi applied an ice pack to Ye Lin’s head and brought the prepared meal into the bedroom.
In his daze, Ye Lin heard someone calling his name. He opened his eyes to see Gu Jiazhi looking at him with a bowl and spoon. “Is it daylight?”
Gu Jiazhi shook his head helplessly. “Open your mouth and eat. You have a high fever and need nutrition.”
Ye Lin obeyed obediently. Tasting the delicious porridge, he regained a bit of spirit. “This porridge is so good. I have never had anything like it.”
Gu Jiazhi continued to feed him while mocking him, “What good things have you ever eaten? This contains many precious ingredients and medicinal herbs.”
Ye Lin’s face was pale, and his voice was airy. “That is right; I have never eaten it. I am glad I have you. I am sick and you are taking care of me. You are so good!”
Although he had many friends in the past, they were all “bad friends” who caused trouble together or raced motorcycles. No one had ever treated him as well as Gu Jiazhi.
Gu Jiazhi felt guilty at his words but continued his mockery. “Are you that starved for love? Moved by just a little bit of kindness.”
By this time, Ye Lin was halfway through the porridge and began to feel drowsy. He did not listen carefully to Gu Jiazhi’s words. He touched his head and lay down. “I am so tired. I want to sleep.”
Gu Jiazhi put down the bowl and tucked him in. “Go to sleep. Your body is truly weak.”
Just as Ye Lin closed his eyes, his phone rang. He quickly picked it up. “Hello, Wenle?”
“I sent you so many messages! Why did you not reply?” “You say you are my boyfriend, but who acts like this? Not replying for six or seven hours!”
“People are not…” Ye Lin was about to lose his temper when he realized Liang Wenle had sent him several large red envelopes (digital cash). He quickly accepted them, and his tone softened instantly. “I am not feeling very well today. I am sorry, Wenle. I will definitely reply to your messages promptly next time. I am such an incompetent boyfriend. I deserve to die!”
“Fine. Since you only just accepted the red envelopes, it seems you really are sick. Remember, my cousin’s birthday is in five days. Sheng Shao will be invited, so you need to…”
Before he could finish, the call was abruptly ended. A grim-faced Gu Jiazhi had snatched Ye Lin’s phone and forcibly hung up.
Ye Lin looked at Gu Jiazhi in confusion. “Why did you grab my phone?”
