- After The Straight Guy Mistakenly Hooked Up With A Strict, Old-Fashioned Daddy, He Ended Up Pregnant
- Chapter 2 - "Is My Little Dress Pretty?"
Two days later, at Riverside Gardens.
It was Qin Er’s day off today. Getting up in the morning, he planned to fry an egg for himself. He failed to flip it halfway through and had to start over, frying four in total before finally getting an unburnt, perfectly round fried egg.
His breakfast consisted of the fried egg paired with toast, along with a cup of freshly ground black coffee.
As he ate his breakfast, he was browsing through patient medical records on his computer when his phone vibrated. It was a message from his nephew, Qin Nan.
QN: 【Little Uncle, Grandma asks when you’re coming home for dinner?】
Qin Er’s gaze briefly shifted away from the computer to reply to the message.
QE: 【Busy recently. Not coming back.】
QN: 【Oh, okay. By the way, Little Uncle, do you remember my girlfriend, Lili? I brought her to meet you last time.】
QE: 【Don’t remember.】
QN: 【?? She even said hello to you, you have no impression at all?】
QE: 【No impression.】
QN: 【Alright, I was just thinking of bringing her home to meet my mom. Do you think my mom will agree to us being together?】
QE: 【Ask your mother. I cannot influence her thoughts.】
QN: 【Little Uncle… what on earth do you actually care about?】
What was something he actually cared about?
Qin Er didn’t know either.
He put down his phone and continued reviewing the medical records, when rustling noises suddenly came from near the front door.
Qin Er initially didn’t want to bother, but the noise outside grew louder and louder, accompanied by the sounds of boxes sliding and bumping, disrupting his work.
He stood up, walked over, and opened the door.
Outside the door, a girl wearing a JK schoolgirl skirt was pushing a box with all her strength.
Seeing him, the girl stopped. A pair of peach blossom eyes sparkled brightly, and her long, straight black hair cascaded over her shoulders like a waterfall. “Hello, Big Brother! I’m the new neighbor moving in right across from you.”
Qin Er didn’t say a word, so Chen Zao continued breaking the ice. “My name is Chen Wan. Wan as in ‘gentle and graceful’.”
He deliberately squeezed his voice into a high pitch, making it soft and delicate as he smiled. “Moving is so exhausting. My luggage is so heavy… Big Brother, could you help me out a bit?”
According to Chen Meng’s assessment, when Chen Zao acted cute and spoiled, it was top-tier, hardly any man could hold out against it, and Qin Er definitely wouldn’t be able to either.
Thinking this, Chen Zao flipped his hair and broke into a confident smile. “Big Bro!”
“Don’t make noise when moving things.”
Qin Er said coldly, then shut the door.
Chen Zao froze on the spot.
What was that supposed to mean?
Was he not pretty enough?
Was he not delicate enough?
Qin Er actually turned a blind eye to him?!
And besides, what did “don’t make noise when moving things” even mean?!
You try it! Can you do it?!
Chen Zao laughed out of sheer anger. With his hands on his hips, he glared at the few boxes on the floor.
Ten minutes later, Qin Er heard an even louder commotion outside his door.
He opened the door once again. The girl was standing at her own doorway, directing several burly men to haul things inside. “Just put it in the living room.”
Seeing him, Chen Zao gave a slight smile. “Sorry about that! My strength is too weak, so I called a few helpers.”
Qin Er’s brow twitched. “When will you be finished moving?”
Chen Zao counted. “It should take another half hour.”
“If Big Brother minds, you could come over and help me move things instead,” Chen Zao giggled.
Qin Er’s gaze swept indifferently over those burly men, then he returned inside and shut the door.
Unprepared for Qin Er to reject him yet again, Chen Zao was so furious his stomach began to ache again.
He pulled out his phone and tapped away furiously on the screen.
10 Days [Chen Zao]: 【Qin Er saw a big beauty like me and was actually completely indifferent?】
Mengmeng: 【Babe, you’re too deep in character, you adopted the girl persona so fast.】
10-Days: 【…I don’t get it. Am I not prettier than Lili? Does this old guy actually care about ‘inner beauty’?!】
Mengmeng: 【Is there a possibility that this old guy is just playing it cool, but in reality, he was mesmerized by you deep down?】
Playing it cool? Chen Zao raised his head, looking at Qin Er’s tightly shut front door.
That made sense. For someone who could even pull off being a male homewrecker, what kind of decent guy could he possibly be?
10-Days: 【Fine. I will definitely tear off his true mask.】
Putting his phone away, Chen Zao took one last glance at Qin Er’s door, returning to his own apartment unsatisfied.
The movers had already finished hauling all the luggage. Chen Zao paid them the fee and began organizing things himself.
This apartment was 120 square meters with three bedrooms and one living room, more than enough space for one person. Chen Zao had brought so many dresses that just organizing the walk-in closet took him nearly an hour. In the end, his patience ran out, and he shoved the clothes into the wardrobe in a crumpled ball.
Next, he went to the bedroom to make the bed. Having grown up with housekeepers at home, the young master had never made a bed himself. As long as the bedsheet was laid out, it was considered done, regardless of whether it was smooth or not. The duvet was also messily stuffed into the cover and piled onto the bed in a bizarre shape.
After finally finishing up the bedroom, it was already 1:00 PM. Chen Zao collapsed onto the bed, exhausted.
It was time for lunch.
Chen Zao opened a food delivery app, but after scrolling through for a while, he had no appetite. In the end, he reluctantly ordered a bowl of Malatang.
While waiting for the delivery, he lay on the living room sofa, turned on the TV to watch a variety show, and casually scrolled through his social feed.
Refreshing his feed, many of his classmates were out traveling, every face beaming with happy smiles.
Scrolling further down, his finger paused.
Chen Zao saw that Chen Huanyu had posted a update.
CHY: 【Lakeside fishing with my wife and son, this is the ideal life of a successful man.】
The attached picture was a family photo of him, Chen Zao’s stepmother Wang Lan, and his younger brother Chen Xin.
In the photo, Wang Lan leaned coquettishly against Chen Huanyu’s shoulder, looking at the man with affectionate and admiring eyes. Chen Huanyu held Chen Xin’s hand, and the seven-year-old boy flashed a toothy white grin at the camera. The family of three looked harmonious and joyful, seemingly having forgotten about the eldest son, Chen Zao, who was far away at A University.
Below, a relative had commented. 【Why didn’t you take Zaozao with you?】
Chen Huanyu replied. 【He doesn’t come home all day long, running wild somewhere who knows where. No need to bother with him.】
Seeing this, Chen Zao let out a cold sneer, tapped into Chen Huanyu’s profile, and blocked him.
Just then, the doorbell rang. Chen Zao scrambled up to head for the door, the delivery had arrived.
The food was still piping hot, but Chen Zao had already lost his appetite. He placed the Malatang in the kitchen, intending to eat it whenever he felt hungry later.
Right now, he was bored. Chen Zao checked the time, and his mind turned toward Qin Er once again.
Qin Er usually didn’t take afternoon naps. After lunch, he stayed in his study reading medical guidelines, with that old vintage pocket watch placed right beside his computer.
On the desk sat a constant-temperature coaster, keeping his coffee at a steady 50°C to ensure its optimal flavor.
A quiet afternoon was perfect for spending time alone, if only a sudden doorbell hadn’t rang in the very next second.
Qin Er didn’t want to pay it any mind, but the doorbell rang again and again, incessantly like an urgent summons.
He walked over to open the door.
It was that girl again. The girl’s chin trembled slightly, her peach blossom eyes filled with panic and helplessness.
“Big Brother…” Chen Zao bit his lip, “There’s a cockroach in my home, I’m so scared… Could you please help me take a look?”
“Seriously, it’s super huge! Its two antennae are this long!” Chen Zao gestured with his fingers, “It’s really terrifying. Big Brother, I beg you, please help me out…”
He clasped his hands together in a plea, his expression as innocent as could be.
He thought to himself that Qin Er couldn’t possibly be so cold hearted that he’d refuse to lend a hand upon seeing a helpless girl troubled by a cockroach.
In his field of vision, Qin Er’s hand moved. Hope flared up in Chen Zao’s heart.
He watched as Qin Er went back into the apartment, retrieved something from the living room, came back, and handed it to him.
Chen Zao looked down, it was a small card with a string of phone numbers written on it.
“What’s this?”
“Property management. Have them come do pest control.”
Chen Zao looked up: “Wait, Big Bro!”
Qin Er turned around and slammed the door shut, heading back inside.
“Don’t get angry, getting sick from anger leaves no one to take your place.”
That night, a dim bedside lamp was turned on. Chen Zao was covered with a small blanket, holding his phone on his lap as he reported his progress to Chen Meng.
“Can you believe it? He actually wanted me to contact property management myself! I have never seen a man so cold and rigid!”
Chen Meng was sitting in a cafe where it was daytime outside. She ate a slice of cake while analyzing it for him. “Qin Er’s mask is too thick. You must persevere, only then can you strip off his mask.”
“Think about it, he’s an associate director. Having fought his way through over the years to reach this position, he’s seen more people than you’ve eaten meals! So he definitely keeps his innermost self strictly hidden.”
“Who knows, maybe on the surface he shows no attitude toward you, but inside, his heart is already on fire!”
“You’re right. Someone who can sit in the position of associate department director, how could he be an easy target?”
Chen Zao grabbed a potato chip, pretended it was Qin Er’s face, and bit down hard. “I will definitely uncover his true colors and avenge my pride!”
The next morning, after Chen Zao woke up, he changed into a new dress in front of the mirror and began applying his makeup.
He had achieved mastery after practicing his makeup skills for only a week. His instructor had praised Chen Zao as the most talented student she had ever seen.
Facing the mirror, he outlined the shape of his peach blossom eyes, added a tiny beauty mark below one eye, and dusted on some peach pink blush, instantly bringing out pair of watery, innocent eyes.
The pink puffy dress flared out like cotton candy, barely covering his thighs, with the slightest movement, the hem would wave like gentle ripples.
Chen Zao admired his outfit in the full length mirror, then put on the wig, styling it into two twin pigtails that fell soft and obediently over his shoulders.
Then, he trotted over to Qin Er’s door and rang the doorbell.
Qin Er had just woken up. Dressed in his pajamas, he was in the bathroom washing up, using an electric shaver to trim the stubble around his mouth. Hearing the doorbell, his pair of phoenix eyes flicked over in annoyance.
This girl had only moved in for one day, yet she had already disturbed him three times.
He placed the shaver neatly back on the sink vanity, aligning it side by side with his hair clay and face cream. After wiping away the water stains around the edge of the sink, he finally walked out.
Reaching the foyer, as he gripped the doorknob, he suddenly felt a sense of deja vu, yesterday he had opened the door three times just like this.
The door slowly opened.
The first things to catch his eye were a pair of fair, long legs. White stockings wrapped around slim, straight calves, with lace bands tightly hugging the soft skin of the thighs. Beneath the pink puffy dress were those slender, straight legs, and looking further up, cool-brown curly twin pigtails draped softly over her shoulders.
Qin Er’s gaze shifted from bottom to top, landing on the girl’s face.
The girl’s eyes were large and innocent, her nose small and delicate, and her lips were plump and hydrated like jelly coated in honey. Her pure appearance radiated an understated yet enticing charm.
“Good morning, Big Brother! Is my little dress pretty?” Chen Zao squeezed his voice high, speaking with a beaming smile.
