Chapter 26: Senior Brother Gege
After returning, Song Chenxi didn’t wake Ruan Mingyu, he covered him with a quilt and let him continue to sleep.
Normally, Ruan Mingyu would have slept until the next day, but his subconscious mind felt that there was still something he hadn’t finished. So, he struggled with all his might to open his eyes.
His brain was a little fuzzy from sleep. Covering his head, he asked Song Chenxi, who was sitting by the bed, “Why didn’t you wake me up?”
Song Chenxi was gazing down at him. Seeing him wake up, he silently averted his gaze.
“Sleep a little longer,” he said, pulling the slipping quilt higher.
Ruan Mingyu shook his head and said, “I can’t. I still need to make your pill.”
Song Chenxi said, “No need. I’ve already sobered up. Also, my symptoms are incurable.”
Ruan Mingyu tentatively asked, “What exactly did you encounter in the Secret Realm?”
Song Chenxi didn’t look at him, instead turning his face to the other side. “Nothing.”
Ruan Mingyu said, “Were you poisoned? Even qi deviation shouldn’t cause the reaction you had before.”
Song Chenxi: “It’s not poison. I can’t explain what it is. I can’t subdue it. Although it’s inside my body, it is beyond my control.”
He was usually so nonchalant about everything; he rarely had such a serious moment as this.
“I’m afraid that in the end, I’ll become a complete lunatic.” Speaking of this, Song Chenxi suddenly bit his index finger until it drew blood, then extended his finger and dabbed the blood onto Ruan Mingyu’s glabella.
“What are you doing?” Ruan Mingyu grasped his hand, trying to pull it away.
“Don’t worry about it.” He continued dabbing Ruan Mingyu’s glabella, closing his eyes at the same time, his lips slightly parted, seemingly reciting a spell.
“Wait, are you casting a spell on me?” He was drawing on his forehead and telling him not to worry—how could he not worry?
After about fifteen minutes, Ruan Mingyu felt a sting in his glabella. Song Chenxi coughed up blood, but still managed to smile at him.
What exactly was he doing?
Ruan Mingyu seemed to guess something: “Are you… establishing a contract with me?”
Song Chenxi just smiled without speaking.
Ruan Mingyu had guessed correctly. Song Chenxi had established a unilateral contract with him.
The content of the contract was: No matter the circumstances, he can never harm Ruan Mingyu.
He nodded: “Yes, I’m establishing a Dao Companion Contract with you.”
Ruan Mingyu almost jumped off the bed, his face a little stunned: “Don’t lie to me.”
Song Chenxi: “Why would I lie to you?” After saying that, he couldn’t hold back and burst into hearty laughter, coughing up two mouthfuls of blood as he laughed.
“See! And you said you weren’t lying! Serves you right, you’re bleeding!” Ruan Mingyu took a clean handkerchief to wipe the blood from Song Chenxi’s lips. He originally wanted to mimic his sarcastic tone, but the words that came out were, “You won’t turn into a lunatic. Don’t worry unnecessarily. You have to believe in yourself. Have you heard the saying, ‘The protagonist always makes it to the end’? So don’t worry. The pill I made will cure all diseases.”
Song Chenxi looked at him and smiled, then suddenly reached out and embraced him.
He pressed his nose against Ruan Mingyu’s cheek, nuzzling him like a puppy: “I’m so glad you’re here. You always say nice things to humor me.”
“…”
Ruan Mingyu stiffened from the sudden embrace.
It’s starting again.
Song Chenxi was having another psychotic episode! This was even scarier than when he was fully demonized!
Yueya on the side couldn’t stand it anymore and swore loudly: “Stop all this mushy nonsense and let me go!”
It turned out that the first thing Song Chenxi did after waking up was tie her back to the pillar. Ruan Mingyu had an excuse to escape. He pushed Song Chenxi away and went over to her, saying, “I can untie you, but you have to promise not to transform and attack us again.”
She nodded: “Call me a pig if I lie to you.”
Ruan Mingyu untied her. Song Chenxi frowned but didn’t say much. Yueya didn’t attack them again, but used a more annoying and irritating method: she immediately burst into loud, sharp, agonizing sobs.
Ruan Mingyu hurriedly said, “Grandma, I didn’t hit you or scold you. Why are you crying again?”
Yueya cried breathlessly: “He’s dead, how can I not cry?”
Ruan Mingyu asked, “Did you two have a good relationship?”
She rambled: “He dug me up from the mountain and planted me here when he was 14. I had just finished my cultivation into human form then, and I grew legs, clutching my main body, and wanted to run back to the mountain. He stopped me halfway and almost knelt down to me.
He said: ‘Sister, please don’t go. A patient here needs you. Please.’ I was soft-hearted and agreed to stay.”
“‘Sister?'” Ruan Mingyu asked curiously. “He called you sister when you look like this?”
Yueya glared at him: “When I first gained human form, I wasn’t as small as I am now. Later, there was an epidemic in the city, and part of my main body was consumed to treat patients. My cultivation dropped drastically, which is why I look like this now.
Zhao Ziping was truly a fool. I told him he should also refine and consume a pill from my main body to prolong his life, but he insisted on not listening. Now look, he’s in the dirt.”
Yueya cried enough and looked up at Ruan Mingyu: “You promised me earlier that if your Senior Brother woke up, you’d help me see him again.”
Ruan Mingyu nodded, glanced at the unreadable Song Chenxi next to him, hardened his heart, went over and held his hand, gazing up at him with big eyes: “Senior Brother, can you grant this poor little girl a small wish?”
Song Chenxi smiled faintly, casually lowering his head to squeeze his hand. Ruan Mingyu had some scratches on his hand, which were from being cut by branches and rocks while gathering herbs last night. Song Chenxi took out ointment and applied it to the scratches on his hand, and coldly said:
“No.”
Ruan Mingyu blinked, praising him: “Senior Brother must be joking. A great and kind person like Senior Brother will definitely grant this little girl’s wish, right?” Song Chenxi scoffed: “Her age is several times yours. ‘Little girl’? Even calling her ‘Grandma’ would be calling her rank too low.”
Ruan Mingyu: “…”
Seeing him frozen, Song Chenxi suddenly smiled and rubbed his head.
Ruan Mingyu felt that his technique was like petting a dog. He pulled his hand down from his head: “Senior Brother, I promised her. Just do this favor for me.”
“It’s not impossible,” Song Chenxi suddenly smirked suggestively. “Call me Gege and let me hear it. It’s been a long time since I’ve heard it.”
Song Chenxi originally intended to tease him, but Ruan Mingyu had no bottom line and immediately said, “Gege, Senior Brother Gege! Gege, Gege, Gege, Gege…”
“Stop it,” hearing his powerful chanting, Song Chenxi almost put a silencing spell on him again, manually covering his mouth. “Shut up, Little Sparrow. Stop chirping.”
