- After The Simp Sealed His Heart With Cement, The Demon Lord Immediately Fell In Love!
- Chapter 9 - The Empress Is Missing!
After the imperial decree was issued, the entire palace began to bustle with preparations for the Emperor’s wedding. The most idle person in the palace was naturally Su Mo, the Empress who had never enjoyed the Emperor’s favor. As his health continued to deteriorate, he could no longer withstand the biting cold of the Heart Sealing Palace.
Wen Muli never once inquired about his condition. On the contrary, Yan Yichen, an outsider, visited the Heart Sealing Palace every day. Seeing that Su Mo could not endure the freezing temperatures, Yan Yichen even requested the Burning Heaven Chain, a magical treasure capable of warding off cold, from Wen Muli. With the Burning Heaven Chain, Su Mo’s condition improved significantly, allowing him to at least visit the pavilion again to watch the scenery and drift into a daze.
“My Lady, let us escape!” Seeing his body growing increasingly emaciated, Ye Lin finally could not help but tearfully persuade him.
“The entire cultivation world is now under Wen Muli’s domain; where could we possibly escape to?” Su Mo shook his head with a wry smile, stating the reality.
“If the cultivation world won’t have us, there are still the Demon Realm and the Spirit Realm! I refuse to believe that in such a vast world, there is no place for the two of us!” Ye Lin argued bitterly.
“With our current cultivation levels, we cannot break through the barrier Wen Muli has erected. Furthermore, the Demon and Spirit Realms harbor such hatred for human cultivators that if we fled there, our lives would likely be even more miserable. By the way, is today the day Zhou Yanyu leaves the palace?” Sensing the tension, Su Mo deliberately changed the subject.
“It is a pity we cannot leave the palace, otherwise I would certainly go to witness her miserable state!” Speaking of Zhou Yanyu, Ye Lin felt much better, a sense of schadenfreude coloring her tone.
“How many years has it been since we last left the palace?” Su Mo suddenly asked.
Ye Lin’s small face fell, and she rolled her eyes in silent exasperation. “Since your wedding, it has been a hundred years!”
“I wonder what the outside world looks like now. Would you like to go and see?” He asked with a mysterious twinkle in his eye.
“My Lady, have you finally figured it out? Yes, we must go! I will go get your cloak immediately!” She was incredibly excited, jumping up and sprinting toward the inner chamber.
The smile on Su Mo’s face gradually faded. His purpose in leaving the palace was not for leisure, but to witness Yan Yichen’s actions. Although he had lost his spiritual root and his cultivation was rapidly declining, he was still considered half an expert. It was very easy for him to leave the imperial palace without a sound. After donning a bamboo hat to hide his disfigured face, the master and servant left the palace. About an hour later, they arrived at a bustling street.
Having not seen such a scene in a century, Ye Lin was extremely excited. She chattered incessantly the whole way, peering at almost every stall. In no time at all, she was carrying a pile of snacks and various trinkets.
“What is that?” Seeing a street performance, the girl’s eyes lit up. She immediately squeezed into the crowd, and within moments, all her attention was on the show.
“I am sorry, Linlin.” Su Mo whispered a quiet goodbye, adjusted his bamboo hat, and quickly retreated, vanishing into the throng of people.
“Young Master, look, he is spitting fire!” Ye Lin was so excited she did not realize he had left. She clapped her hands as she turned to speak, taking it for granted that Su Mo would always be by her side.
Discovering that the person beside her was not Su Mo, the girl was stunned. Her face turned anxious as she began to search everywhere for him. Finding no trace of that familiar figure on the entire street, Ye Lin’s face grew pale, and all sorts of terrible thoughts rushed into her mind.
The Empress is missing!
Suppressing her urge to cry and disregarding the punishment she might face for sneaking out, she stumbled and ran toward the palace.
On the other side, Su Mo used an invisibility spell to leave the city silently, tracking the direction in which Zhou Yanyu was being escorted. His body was now like a leaky sieve; no matter how much spiritual energy he consumed, he could not retain it. It was only after consuming an entire bottle of spiritual replenishment pills that he caught up with the convoy. He did not reveal himself, instead hiding on a hillside to observe the group below.
Almost as soon as he arrived, a group of masked men in black leaped out from all directions, surrounding the convoy escorting Zhou Yanyu.
“Who goes there!” the lead guard roared.
The men in black did not respond; they drew their swords, revealing their intentions. Both sides engaged in a fierce battle, but it was clear the men in black had superior cultivation. About a quarter of an hour later, the guards’ corpses were scattered across the ground.
“Do not come closer! Presumptuous! I am the daughter of the Shuiyun Sect Master; do you intend to make an enemy of the entire Shuiyun Sect!” Even at death’s door, Zhou Yanyu continued to boast. She believed that as the daughter of the world’s number one sect and a major contributor to Wen Muli’s ascension, no cultivator would dare oppose the Shuiyun Sect. She did not realize that mentioning the sect would only make them kill her faster!
The leading man approached Zhou Yanyu step by step, sneering as he removed his mask.
“You?!” Zhou Yanyu’s eyes filled with disbelief. She could never have imagined that the leader of the assassins would be the seemingly frail and weak Yan Yichen!
“It is me, Zhou Yanyu. Long time no see.” Yan Yichen revealed a bright smile as he greeted her meaningfully.
She stared, trying to recall. Could their first meeting not have been in the palace? This pretty face slowly merged with the memory of a young, sobbing face from long ago.
“It is you!” Zhou Yanyu gasped in horror.
“It seems your memory is quite good. After all these years, it is time for your Shuiyun Sect to repay the debts you owe from back then, is it not?” Yan Yichen revealed a sweet smile, his tone sinister.
“No, this has nothing to do with me! I was only following orders; it was my father’s command. Retribution should fall on the one who caused it; you should go find him!” Zhou Yanyu screamed, her face pale with terror. In this moment, the selfishness of human nature was exposed to the fullest.
“Do not worry, I will. It will not be long before I let you and your father reunite in the underworld!” Yan Yichen said, his tone chilling as he nodded at the men in black beside him.
Two men in black immediately stepped forward. One restrained Zhou Yanyu’s head, while the other forced her jaw open and shoved a pill down her throat, forcing her to swallow.
“Cough, cough. What did you feed me?! It hurts, it hurts, help me.”
Zhou Yanyu clutched her stomach in agony, rolling on the ground. Her fair, pale face was instantly soaked in cold sweat, all color draining from her features as she turned from white to blue. Her skin bulged and then began to crack open bit by bit, blood overflowing. In her unbearable agony, she grabbed Yan Yichen’s boots, begging for mercy.
Yan Yichen merely looked down at her with indifference, unmoved by her suffering. After a full quarter of an hour of agonizing pain, Zhou Yanyu finally breathed her last. As someone who cherished her beauty above all else, she died looking unrecognizable and grotesque.
