After the Sickly Child Differentiates into A - Chapter 69.2
Wen Xihe curled her lip. Seeing that Lin Li was fine, she wasn’t really in a hurry anymore and didn’t press the issue. “Fine, then. A few more days of fun. I’ll call Grandpa to reassure him.”
True to her word, she took out her phone, made the call, briefly explained the situation, then handed the phone to Lin Li to speak with their grandfather. After hanging up, she let out a sigh and glanced around the room. “So, where do I sleep these next few days?”
Wen Jingzhi looked toward the sofa beneath her. Wen Xihe sneered, “No way!”
She’d just seen this person pinning Lin Li down on that sofa. She couldn’t sleep there!
Wen Jingzhi raised an eyebrow. “The master bedroom is Lin Li’s grandmother’s room. The secondary bedroom.” She casually lifted a hand to adjust her collar. “…is where Xiao You and I are staying.”
That collar-adjusting gesture was far too conspicuous. Wen Xihe instantly recalled the marks hidden beneath that person’s clothes, and then it hit her, it had been seven or eight days since they’d arrived here, and Lin Li still carried the strong scent of Wen Jingzhi’s pheromones all over her.
She tilted her head back and closed her eyes in despair.
Stop it, brain! Don’t you dare imagine what they’ve been doing in that secondary bedroom!
Lin Li didn’t catch on at first, but noticing Wen Xihe’s strange reaction, she suddenly understood. Her face flushed bright red, and she stood up abruptly, hurrying back into the secondary bedroom and shutting the door, too embarrassed to come out.
Wen Jingzhi withdrew her gaze from the retreating figure, a slight smile playing on her lips as she glanced at Wen Xihe. “The sofa?”
Wen Xihe gritted her teeth. “The! Sofa!”
Compared to the secondary bedroom, the sofa where they’d only shared a few kisses was her best option!
What sin had she committed to endure this?!
Wen Jingzhi raised an eyebrow, stood up, and began removing the sofa cover. Wen Xihe’s eyes widened, her voice trembling as she exclaimed, “You did it on the sofa too?”
Weren’t they just a few kisses!?
Wen Jingzhi shot her a meaningful look. “You’d sleep on it without changing the cover?”
Wen Xihe breathed a sigh of relief and waved a hand grandly. “Change it!”
Wen Jingzhi efficiently stripped off the old cover, fetched a new one from the closet, and replaced it herself. She then personally unfolded the sofa bed, preparing the quilt and pillows.
Wen Xihe nodded in satisfaction. “Incredible. I never thought I’d see the day when I’d receive such meticulous service from the ice block. I’m moved to tears.”
Wen Jingzhi shot her a cold glance. “Your luggage?”
“The bodyguard will bring it up later.” Wen Xihe sat on the edge of the sofa bed, pulling Wen Jingzhi down beside her. Her expression turned serious as she lowered her voice to remind her, “You’ve managed to smooth things over with me, but have you thought about how you’ll explain things to Grandpa?”
“And to Big Brother.”
“Big Brother might be soft-hearted, but Grandpa won’t be so easy to fool.”
Wen Jingzhi pressed her lips together. “I’ll handle it.”
“I can’t be bothered with you.” Wen Xihe glared at her. “Seems like you won’t admit you’re wrong until you get a few whacks from a cane.”
“I don’t think I’ve done anything wrong.”
Wen Xihe widened her eyes. “Still not wrong? How old is Xiao Li? And how old are you?” She quickly calculated in her head. “Fifteen years, there’s a fifteen-year age gap between you.”
“Never mind the fact that you’re sisters even if you weren’t, what elder would be willing to hand over their younger family member to someone fifteen years older?”
“You’re nothing but an old cow trying to eat.”
“Wen Xihe.” Wen Jingzhi was annoyed. She had always been somewhat sensitive about her age, and this person kept harping on it. “I don’t need you to tell me.”
Oh, she’s angry.
Seems like she really cares about that.
Wen Xihe snorted lightly. “Think about it yourself, she’s about to start university soon, and she’ll meet plenty of outstanding people her own age.”
“Which one of them wouldn’t be better than.”
“I raised her with my own hands.” Wen Jingzhi cut her off. “No one understands her better than I do.”
Wen Xihe was taken aback.
“I’m the only one who can save her.”
“I can give her everything she wants.”
In terms of family background, she was far superior to any Omega at school; in terms of character, aside from her overly controlling nature, her morals and values were sound; in terms of professional ability, she was now a Grand Slam actress domestically, internationally renowned, and it was only a matter of time before she achieved a global Grand Slam she was the untouchable “ice queen” of the industry; and in terms of understanding Lin Li, it was her meticulous care that had allowed this flower to gradually bloom.
Wen Jingzhi’s long eyelashes fluttered slightly as she calmly spoke with arrogance: “No one is more suitable than I am.”
Wen Xihe’s pupils contracted, stunned into silence. Covering her mouth, she thought for a long while and realized she actually couldn’t refute it!
But something still felt off.
The door suddenly knocked. Wen Xihe gave up and waved her hand dismissively. “Go back to your room. Looking at you irritates me.”
Wen Jingzhi’s eyebrow twitched, and she turned away with a cold expression, returning to her room.
“Sister.”
As soon as she entered the room and closed the door, a soft warmth threw itself into her arms. The chill on her face melted away as she held the person tightly. “What’s wrong?”
Lin Li looked up, worried. “Did Xihe sister scold you?”
“No.” Wen Jingzhi curved her lips slightly and stroked her hair. “Don’t worry.”
“That’s good.” Her sister had already suffered grievances for her, if she got scolded on top of that, she would be very upset.
Wen Jingzhi lifted her up in one swift motion, placed her on the bed, and slowly leaned over her. Lin Li’s vision darkened, her eyelashes fluttering as her heartbeat quickened.
Their soft lips met. Lin Li instinctively wrapped her arms around Wen Jingzhi’s neck, closed her eyes, and responded.
Mindful of Wen Xihe outside, Wen Jingzhi didn’t kiss too deeply. After a gentle moment, she pulled away, nuzzled the girl’s chin, and let out a low chuckle.
She didn’t resist the kiss at all.
The day this little Alpha would completely belong to her seemed not far off.
Lin Li blinked dazedly, instinctively licking her lips with the tip of her tongue. Wen Jingzhi’s eyes darkened, and she restrained herself, pressing her thumb against the moist corner of the girl’s mouth before standing up and pulling her to her feet.
“Go wash up.”
“Okay.”
The two opened the door and headed to the bathroom. Wen Xihe was packing her suitcase and glanced at them, noticing the spring-like glow in Lin Li’s eyes. She quickly averted her gaze, muttering under her breath, “Beast.”
Couldn’t you resist kissing even for such a short while!?
The three of them stayed in the cabin for a few more days, taking Lin Li out to play in the snow and wander around the mountains. Before leaving, they visited Aunt Lin again, this time with even more gifts, which startled her so much she repeatedly waved her hands, too embarrassed to accept them. In the end, Wen Jingzhi imitated Lin Li and left the gifts piled at the doorway.
Before departing, Lin Li lit incense for her grandmother and whispered to her for a long while. Wen Jingzhi and Wen Xihe waited outside the door. After Lin Li came out, the two sisters also went in to offer incense to the grandmother, bowing respectfully three times.
Their luggage had already been taken down by the bodyguards, so the three of them descended the mountain unburdened.
The bodyguards returned the RV and rented a large SUV to drive them to the airport.
Lin Li grew drowsy shortly after getting into the car and leaned against Wen Jingzhi’s shoulder for a light nap. Wen Xihe, sitting in the passenger seat, remained silent for half an hour before pulling out her phone and sending Wen Jingzhi a message.
[You said before that only you are the most suitable for Xiao You.]
[I won’t argue with that, but the same question remains.]
[Do you truly love her, or is it just selfish possessiveness driving you? Your jealousy is so extreme that you won’t even let Xiao You serve me food.]
[Will she be able to have normal friendships after this?]
[What if Xiao You meets someone more perfect in the future?]
[Could you bear it?]
Wen Xihe turned and coughed twice to get Wen Jingzhi’s attention, then pointed to her phone.
Wen Jingzhi frowned slightly, glanced at the sleeping girl on her shoulder, and carefully took out her phone to read the message.
After a moment of thought, she typed her reply.
[Love is inherently selfish.]
Love is not enduring patience; love is catching you off guard.
Love is not about finding the perfect other half, but about striving to draw near and reaching out to touch.
Love is chaotic and complex, terrifying and selfish. To attain it, one must be confident and bold.
For Wen Jingzhi, love was an uncontrollable desire to be close, the urge to hold her tightly and lock her in an embrace, a terrifying and selfish need for control.
She had no experience with “love,” but she understood herself well and was adept at self-analysis.
The moment she kissed Lin Li, she was certain, she loved her.
Wen Xihe rubbed her temples, once again at a loss for words.
After a long pause, she replied.
[But you allowed Qiao Xian to get close back then. What does that count as? Selflessness?]
[Forced tolerance and compromise.]
In truth, Wen Jingzhi had already found her answer when she discovered that Qiao Xian’s pheromones had a much weaker effect on Lin Li than her own.
She was merely respecting Lin Li, giving her the chance to make her own choice.
But that didn’t mean she had completely let go.
The kite string was still tightly held in her hand.
[What if Xiao You had chosen Qiao Xian?]
After sending this message, Wen Xihe received no reply for a long while. Puzzled, she turned her head and, the moment she met Wen Jingzhi’s gaze, felt an inexplicable chill run down her spine.
Her cold eyes were dark and dull, like an abyss.
Shadowed and obsessive, they conveyed a clear “determined to have” at a glance.
As if saying, then I’ll take her back.
As long as Qiao Xian’s “therapeutic effect” couldn’t compare to her own, as long as Lin Li showed the slightest hesitation, she would forcefully take her back.
Even though Wen Jingzhi said nothing, Wen Xihe could read the answer in her eyes, “Lin Li must belong to me.”
Such an utterly absurd answer.
Wen Xihe could no longer muster any words of rebuttal. She sighed silently and closed her eyes in resignation.
They had set out in the morning and arrived in Kyoto by nightfall.
Wen Jingzhi and Lin Li first returned to Eryue to drop off their luggage. After tidying up, they got into the car and headed to the old residence with Wen Xihe.
Wen Xize and Old Master Wen had been waiting for some time. As soon as the three of them entered the house, the old master stood up with a stern face, looked at Wen Jingzhi, and stomped his cane. “Come with me!”
