After the Sickly Child Differentiates into A - Chapter 59
Before the bodyguard could step forward, the woman smiled and moved aside. Lin Li gave her a strange look before running off.
Only after watching the girl’s figure disappear from sight did the woman turn and leave the hotel. A stretch limousine pulled up in front of her, and several bodyguards surrounded her, opening the rear door for her.
As the car drove away from the hotel, the woman answered a phone call. The person on the other end also spoke fluent French.
“That little lion of yours has a very interesting caretaker.”
Recalling the scene she had just witnessed in the hotel’s surveillance room, the woman narrowed her eyes and chuckled softly. “Not for long.”
“What about your distant cousin?”
“Let her go.”
Back inside the hotel, the elevator was taking too long. Lin Li, accompanied by her bodyguard, took the fire escape stairs instead. She didn’t know which floor her sister Shen was on, so she kept climbing. Her body was weak, and after just three floors, her heart was racing, her throat dry and sore. Gritting her teeth, she had the bodyguard carry her as they continued upward.
On the fourth floor, her keen sense of smell caught a familiar scent of snow.
Her heart leaped. Two floors higher, the scent grew stronger, carrying a suppressed dampness. Lin Li jumped off the bodyguard’s back, pushed open the fire escape door, and found herself face to face with four bodyguards standing outside a room.
It was her sister’s pheromones!
And the distressing scent of her heat!
Sister!
Lin Li rushed forward, but her bodyguard moved faster, stepping ahead to confront the four black-suited bodyguards at the door.
The black-suited bodyguards were already injured, while the bodyguard accompanying Lin Li moved with the skill of a special forces soldier. Even two against four, they held their ground.
Lin Li stayed away from the “battlefield,” running to the door and trying to push it open. It was locked, and she didn’t have a key card. She turned and ran to a corner, where she found a fire hose cabinet. Smashing the glass, she retrieved a fire axe and rushed back to the door.
Her slender arms raised the axe high.
Inside the dimly lit room, a woman sat on a sofa by the window. Leaning sideways, she rested her chin on one hand, her thumb pressing against her temple. Her cold eyes were half-closed, the corners tinged with the flush of desire.
On the carpet behind the sofa lay a man, bound hand and foot with a bedsheet. He was unconscious, his neck and arms bruised purple, a deep gash on his forehead bleeding onto the carpet.
Further back in the corner, a shattered lampshade lay scattered on the floor, and the air vent above had been damaged.
The room was filled with the scent of a blizzard.
Thud!!
The loud sound of the axe striking the door lock echoed through the room.
The woman, who had been leaning back with her eyes closed, suppressing the waves of desire, lifted her eyelids. Her bloodshot eyes were icy cold.
Bang!
The door was kicked open with great force, slamming against the wall before bouncing back.
Light from the hallway streamed in.
The woman on the sofa, her hand resting on her leg, reached for a fruit knife nearby.
“Sister!”
The fruit knife was tossed aside. The woman looked up in surprise, her gaze turbulent.
A slender girl stood in the light from the hallway, clutching a fire axe, panting and red-eyed. Noticing the man behind the sofa, she breathed a sigh of relief. Reaching back, she slammed the door shut and dragged a nearby cabinet to block it. Then, she turned to the woman, tilting her head with a smile. “I’m here to save you.”
The girl who should have been far away in their homeland had crossed mountains and seas to save her.
Wen Jingzhi, whose nerves had been frayed by desire, relaxed. Covering her face, she let out a low, ambiguous chuckle. Leaning back against the sofa, she lifted her eyelids and beckoned to the girl. “Come here.”
Lin Li jogged a few steps and casually tossed the axe in her hand, which happened to land squarely on the man’s back. Wen Jingzhi lifted her eyelids slightly and let out a soft, amused hum. As the young girl approached, she reached out and wrapped an arm around the slender waist, pulling her into an embrace.
“Sister?” The girl, now seated on the woman’s firm thighs, blushed deeply. She wrapped her arms around Wen Jingzhi’s neck and whispered, “Shall I fetch the suppressants for you?”
“No rush.” Wen Jingzhi had already managed to disrupt the vent, and the situation wasn’t severe, it was no different from a normal estrus cycle.
She lowered her gaze to study the girl’s delicate face, tightening her arm around the slender waist. Lin Li wore a light-colored silk blouse, its hem brushing against the back of Wen Jingzhi’s fingers, sending a tingling sensation that reddened her eyes. Her pale fingertips trembled slightly, tracing the edge of the fabric, lingering at the seams as if tempted to slip inside, but she restrained herself.
Her cold, bloodshot eyes narrowed slightly. She took a breath and leaned weakly against the girl’s warm, soft neck, her gaze inadvertently drifting to the patch covering the nape. Her arm tightened once more.
A blizzard of pheromones surged relentlessly against the girl, enveloping and coiling around her.
The aggressive, restless pheromones swept across the girl’s cheeks and the nape of her neck, slipping beneath her collar to glide over her skin.
Lin Li’s eyes reddened, her lips trembling as she spoke, “Sister, you!”
What are you doing?
“Hmm?” Wen Jingzhi pulled back slightly, lowering her gaze. “What’s wrong?”
Does Sister not know?
Or is this just my imagination?
Such a strange feeling.
Lin Li clung tightly to Wen Jingzhi’s neck, pressing herself deeper into the embrace, her chin resting in the crook of the other’s neck. She let out a soft, restless whimper. The arm around her waist suddenly trembled, tightening with a force that bordered on painful.
The blizzard of pheromones washed over the girl’s body, seeping through the gaps in the patch, attempting to claim the vulnerable gland of the young Alpha.
Unable to release her own pheromones, the young Alpha was now drenched in the scent of the Omega.
She felt as though she were being swept away by a storm.
“Third Miss, Young Miss, it’s been handled,” a bodyguard’s voice sounded from outside the door.
Wen Jingzhi closed her eyes for a moment, then gently patted the girl’s side and released her. “Go on.”
Lin Li’s entire body felt weak. Biting her lip, she took a moment to steady herself before leaving her sister’s embrace. She moved to the door, shifted the cabinet aside, and cracked it open just enough to instruct the bodyguard outside, “Bring two Omega suppressants and a patch.”
The bodyguard nodded expressionlessly and hurried downstairs.
In less than a minute, two unopened high-potency suppressants and a fresh patch were handed to Lin Li. She closed the door, dragged the cabinet back into place, and rushed to her sister’s side, offering the suppressants.
Wen Jingzhi stood up to take them, leaning against the arm of the sofa. With her right hand, she peeled off the old patch and braced herself against the back of the sofa. With her left hand, she gripped the suppressant, raised it, and drove the sharp needle into her gland.
“Hngh.” The woman’s brow furrowed slightly, a muffled groan escaping her throat.
Lin Li’s face flushed instantly. She turned her head away, but the corner of her left eye remained fixed on the slowly diminishing liquid in the syringe. Once the liquid was fully injected, her gaze involuntarily drifted to her sister’s flushed eyes. Her heart raced, and she swallowed dryly.
The empty syringe was tossed into the trash bin beside the coffee table. Wen Jingzhi frowned lightly and extended her left hand to Lin Li. The latter stared at the woman’s pale, luminous fingertips, her throat moving as she placed the new patch into the open palm.
The moist, tender red gland was covered by the patch, and the ventilation system, which had been “malfunctioning” for some time, finally began to work. The “snowdrifts” in the room were swept away.
The girl was enveloped in a biting blizzard that clung to her skin, slowly seeping beneath the surface and permeating her bloodstream.
She was so familiar with Wen Jingzhi’s pheromones that the lingering scent in the air felt completely natural, never once occurring to her that it might be emanating from her own body.
Over ten minutes later, the hotel manager and police arrived, releasing the two unconscious bodyguards from the opposite room. Since Wen Jingzhi couldn’t appear in person, the bodyguards brought by Lin Li explained the situation.
After all the commotion, more than two hours had passed by the time Wen Jingzhi and Lin Li returned to their hotel. Sun Xiaoxiao had been calling repeatedly.
Lin Li didn’t answer, instead sending a message saying she wouldn’t be joining them for shopping and suggesting they go without her, planning to meet for dinner that evening.
Swiping the key card, Wen Jingzhi led Lin Li into her room. No sooner had she settled on the sofa than a bottle of mineral water, already opened, was offered to her. A slight smile touched her lips as she accepted it and took a small sip.
“When did you arrive?” Wen Jingzhi set the water down and pulled Lin Li to sit beside her.
“Around noon, at your hotel.” Lin Li could still detect her sister’s pheromones, and every cell in her body relaxed in response, making her squint with contentment. “Sun Xiaoxiao and the others came too. They’re planning a trip to Hedon Farm for a vacation.”
Wen Jingzhi lazily lifted her eyelids. “Are you going?”
The girl countered, “Are you going, sister?”
Wen Jingzhi glanced at her. “Sure, after the red carpet event.”
“Then let them go ahead. I’ll wait for you.”
“Mm.”
Half an hour later, Shen Yuan hurried in, a red mark from rope burns visible around her wrist. She had been drugged unconscious after finishing business at the club the previous night and had only just woken up. Discovering the chat records on her phone, she sensed something was wrong and, without stopping to report to the police, rushed over to check on Wen Jingzhi.
Seeing that the other was unharmed, she then called the police and returned to her own hotel to handle the aftermath.
After Shen Yuan left, Lin Li seemed to hesitate, on the verge of speaking. Wen Jingzhi glanced at her. “What is it?”
“Sister Shen asked you to her room, and you just went?”
Shen Yuan was an Alpha, after all.
Did her sister like…
Wen Jingzhi looked at her meaningfully. “There was a matter to discuss. Normally, I wouldn’t.”
Lin Li bit her lip. “Oh.”
A soft hand pressed down on her head, and Lin Li closed her eyes, asking no more.
That evening, Wen Jingzhi reserved a restaurant to “welcome” the young guests.
When Lin Li and her sister arrived at the private room, Zhou Cheng opened the door. As Lin Li approached, she was hit by the other’s aggressively cold pheromones, like a face full of snowflakes. Covering her nose, she stepped back. “Wow, your pheromones are freezing!”
Sun Xiaoxiao came closer and caught the scent too, surprised. “Are you in heat?”
Neither Zhou Cheng nor Sun Xiaoxiao had ever detected Wen Jingzhi’s pheromones and had no idea whom the scent belonged to.
But Qiao Xian suddenly stood up, her gaze fixed directly on the woman behind Lin Li. The latter lifted her eyes, meeting the stare without a change in expression.
Lin Li was taken aback by the question, finally realizing the truth. Her heart skipped a beat. Suppressing the urge to turn and look at her sister, she pressed her lips together as if in silent admission, pushed past Sun and Zhou, and found an empty seat.
Wen Jingzhi sat down to her left, soothingly and almost apologetically ruffling her hair.
Her heat made it hard to control her pheromones, especially since at that time.
Wen Jingzhi lowered her gaze, withdrawing her hand without offering any explanation.
Lin Li bit her lip, heat rising to the tips of her ears.
The dinner atmosphere was quite pleasant. Even with Wen Jingzhi, the “ice block,” present, the girls chatted happily. Qiao Xian occasionally cast scrutinizing glances at Wen Jingzhi, who remained unfazed.
Back at the hotel, Lin Li returned upstairs with the others. Wen Jingzhi had initially considered adding an extra bed to her room, but since all the girls had booked single suites, she dismissed the idea.
The next day, the police released their findings. The male Alpha whom Wen Jingzhi had knocked out confessed to the crime, admitting he was her obsessive fan. He had tracked her schedule, followed her, deliberately kidnapped Shen Yuan, and used Shen’s phone to lure Wen Jingzhi to the room. The illegal inducing agent had been sourced from the black market.
With a solid chain of evidence, the case was hastily closed. Wen Jingzhi wasn’t convinced that was the whole truth, but being abroad with limited connections made it inconvenient to pursue further.
That morning, Sun Xiaoxiao, Qiao Xian, and a few others headed to the farmstead, while Lin Li stayed behind to reunite with the group after Wen Jingzhi’s red carpet event the following day.
On the night of the film festival’s red carpet, Lin Li sat on the sofa in her sister’s room, flanked by two female bodyguards hired locally on short notice while the two bodyguards she had brought along stood guard outside the door. The intense scent of a blizzard still clung to her, but fortunately, the female bodyguards were Betas, so it wasn’t too awkward.
On the tablet screen, the live broadcast of the red carpet was flooded with dense comments. Over an hour later, Wen Jingzhi, dressed in a qipao rich with Eastern elegance, took her seat in the front row.
Just as the ceremony was about to begin, a captivating woman with golden hair and blue eyes, clad in lavish attire and wearing stiletto heels, entered the venue surrounded by an entourage and settled beside Wen Jingzhi. The woman’s narrow, snake-like eyes fixed on Wen Jingzhi as she murmured in a low voice, “I know you.”
Wen Jingzhi’s eyebrow twitched slightly. She turned her head and replied in flawless French, “Hello.”
“Hello,” the woman responded, leaning on the armrest and propping her chin, her eyes narrowing as she smiled. “An interesting keeper.”
