After the Sickly Child Differentiates into A - Chapter 56
Pain heat.
There was snow in her embrace, soothing her agony and burning fever.
Lin Li blinked in confusion, tightened her fingers, and gasped as she drew closer to that face.
Her blurred vision sharpened for a fleeting moment in the darkness, capturing and fixating on those tightly pressed crimson lips. Her muddled thoughts were forcibly torn into a sliver of clarity.
Her heart raced wildly as she trembled and leaned in.
Scorching breath brushed against her lips. Wen Jingzhi, eyes closed and brow furrowed, murmured a low warning: “Lin Li.”
Yet that presence continued its slow approach.
Suddenly, Wen Jingzhi twisted her wrist, effortlessly breaking free from the restraint, and seized the slender arm. “Stop.”
Lin Li’s feverish left eye glistened with unshed tears. She halted her advance, stared at those slightly parted red lips, and suddenly laughed.
So… she did want it.
A memory surfaced Sun Xiaoxiao teasing Su Ke:
“Don’t want to?”
“Or don’t dare?”
The corners of her eyes grew damp, warmth welling up.
She didn’t dare.
“Cough, cough, cough!” Lin Li suddenly doubled over coughing, suppressing her panting as she lifted her head pitifully toward Wen Jingzhi, a faint sob in her voice: “Sis, it hurts…”
Wen Jingzhi’s grip loosened slightly, and in that instant, her wrist was seized again, pinned above her head. The newly adult Alpha seized the opportunity to press closer, lips nearing.
“Lin Li!”
A damp nose lightly touched the side of her neck, hot breath spraying over her collarbone, sending a shiver through her entire body.
After that restrained touch, the Alpha released her, pulled open the door, and pushed her shoulder: “Go.”
Even that feeble push sent Wen Jingzhi stumbling out. The door began to close slowly.
Suddenly, a slender hand slipped into the gap, gripping the doorframe. Unable to bear the torment, Lin Li groaned weakly, “Sis, let go of my hand.”
Wen Jingzhi didn’t understand her own feelings she just couldn’t bring herself to leave like this. She tightened her grip and gently pushed the door inward.
The person behind the door had long lost all strength and was easily pushed aside, swaying as if about to collapse. Wen Jingzhi stepped forward, caught her in her arms, and with a sideways push, closed the door.
“Where’s the medicine?” Su Yue must have given her something.
“Hmm…” Lin Li couldn’t endure it any longer. She turned and wrapped her arms around her sister’s neck, pressing her nose against the side of her neck, trying to nuzzle closer to the patch covering her scent gland.
Wen Jingzhi frowned, enduring the inexplicable sensation. She carried the girl to the bed and tried to pull away, but Lin Li’s arms remained hooked around her neck. Closing her eyes, Wen Jingzhi swallowed hard. “Stop fooling around. Where’s the medicine?”
“At home.”
Wen Jingzhi pried Lin Li’s hands away, turned on the light and searched the room, nothing. Suddenly, it dawned on her: she meant the other home.
Rubbing her temples, she glanced back at the trembling, curled-up figure on the bed and felt deeply that she had truly lost her mind.
“I’ll go get it. Don’t go anywhere.”
Receiving no response, she couldn’t bear to look any longer. Hastily, she threw on a coat in her own room, grabbed her car keys, and headed to the garage.
As soon as the source of relief left, Lin Li couldn’t hold backsh e coughed up blood and soon lost consciousness.
Pressing the accelerator all the way, Wen Jingzhi still took over three hours to reach the old residence. She hurried up to the third floor and opened the door to Lin Li’s bedroom, her face darkening, the bed was empty.
After searching the room and finding no one, a thought struck her. She rushed next door.
Opening the door, her expression softened slightly. Noticing the position where the girl was lying prone, her gaze trembled faintly before she averted her eyes.
Overwhelmed by the feverish heat, the girl had undone the top buttons of her pajamas, revealing a glimpse of her slender, pale shoulders. She lay sideways on the bed the side she usually slept on.
Gripping the glass syringe, Wen Jingzhi took off her coat and tossed it aside. Closing the door, she walked to the bedside and gathered the flushed young Alpha into her arms. “What’s the injection method?”
Lin Li didn’t respond. Instead, she clung tightly to this “snow,” her scorching palms pressing against the thin pajamas as she fumbled restlessly over the taut back and waist. Wen Jingzhi tightened her hold, her Adam’s apple bobbing. The veins on her swan-like neck stood out as she took a controlled breath and warned, “Lin Li, stop moving.”
“What’s the injection method?”
“The… the gland.”
Regaining a sliver of rationality, Lin Li ceased her frantic movements and held Wen Jingzhi tighter, resting her chin in the crook of her neck, uncontrollably leaning closer to that spot.
Wen Jingzhi closed her eyes briefly. Holding the syringe, she removed the protective cap, expelled the air, and shifted her hand from the slender waist upward. Her fingertips brushed against the thin barrier patch. Her chest heaved as she pinched the edge and tore it open.
The swollen, blood-streaked Alpha gland was exposed before her eyes. Wen Jingzhi flinched as if burned, her gaze darting away. Her throat moved again before she turned her eyes back. Aligning the sharp needle with the center of the gland, she was about to inject when the Alpha, once again seized by heat and pain, suddenly turned her face. Her nose brushed against the sensitive skin of Wen Jingzhi’s neck before sliding toward the nape.
Suppressed, moist panting echoed incessantly in her ears.
Her fingers tightened around the syringe, veins bulging on the back of her hand.
Those hoarse, ragged breaths had long thrown her heartbeat into disarray, her pheromones leaking beyond her control. Yet she chose to ignore it, squeezing her eyes shut forcefully before releasing the waist. Her hand found the Alpha’s jaw, cupping and holding it firmly in place as she inserted the needle into the gland.
“Mmm—”
As the needle pierced the Alpha’s most vulnerable spot, pain seared through her nerves. Lin Li suddenly struggled violently. Afraid of hurting her, Wen Jingzhi immediately withdrew the needle and tightened her arm around her waist. “It’ll be over soon, Xiao You.”
“Don’t be afraid.”
“Ha? Sister!” Lin Li pressed closer to Wen Jingzhi, her hands roaming recklessly over her body. Panting, she spoke in a tearful voice, “Sister, it’s so hot, it hurts so much.”
“I want…” Snow.
Her left eye, flushed with fever, cracked open. Lin Li swiftly approached the slender, pale neck, her burning lips pressing against the skin and giving a soft suck.
Wen Jingzhi’s pupils trembled. Her hand gripping the syringe tightened instantly, a sharp pain followed. She glanced down: the glass syringe had shattered in her grasp.
The clear liquid flowed into her palm, mingled with streaks of blood.
An intense scent of pheromones emanated from the liquid, causing Wen Jingzhi’s pupils to constrict once more this was her pheromones.
The medication Lin Li was using was a sedative made from her pheromones.
As those scorching lips trailed upward along her neck, Wen Jingzhi shook off the liquid and shards from her hand. She wrapped both arms around Lin Li and gently tossed her onto the bed.
The burning heat retreated, but the lingering dampness and searing sensation on her neck remained vividly clear, scalding all the way to her heart.
The woman’s usually cool, clear eyes were now tinged with crimson. She stared at the girl curled up on the bed, let out a heavy breath, and raised a hand to cover the kissed spot on her neck. Squeezing her eyes shut, she took a deep, strained breath.
Her chaotic, unsteady heartbeat betrayed her inner turmoil.
“Sister, sister…” The girl’s hoarse pleas caused her pheromones to leak once more. Taking a deep breath, she went to the bedside to retrieve her phone and dialed Su Yue.
While waiting for the call to connect, the irrational young Alpha crawled over from the bed, wrapping her arms around her shoulders, her nose brushing against the edge of the scent blocker patch.
“Xiao You!” Wen Jingzhi hissed in a low voice, pressing her hand against the girl’s burning cheek to stop her.
“Third Miss?”
“Lin Li is in her sensitive period. The injection is broken.” Straight to the point.
“What?” Su Yue was stunned by the two pieces of major news. “Then…”
“She’s right beside me.”
A sudden dampness on her palm made Wen Jingzhi widen her eyes. She only then realized her wrist was being held by Lin Li, and the hand that had been against the girl’s cheek had moved to those burning lips. That sensation from earlier.
“Lin Li!” This is just…
Wen Jingzhi pressed her lips tightly together, withdrew her hand, and pushed the girl back onto the bed with controlled force. She retreated several steps, suppressing her light panting as she clenched her fists.
“Third Miss, if Lin Li doesn’t regain her senses, I can’t proceed with treatment. Could you please help calm her down first?” Su Yue cursed inwardly, what kind of situation was this!
“How do I calm her?”
“Your pheromones.” Su Yue fell silent for a few seconds before adding an unnecessary explanation: “Any Omega’s pheromones would work, but since you’re right there with her, I’ll have to trouble you.”
“After she’s calmed down, bring her to the hospital. I’ll be ready and waiting.”
Wen Jingzhi closed her eyes briefly. “Fine.”
The young Alpha had already risen and was approaching her again. Wen Jingzhi hung up and tossed her phone aside, stepping forward to pull the girl into her arms. Holding her tightly, she guided them both to the bed and laid down.
She captured the Alpha’s slender wrists, crossing them together. Her long fingers slipped between the wrists and through the gaps of their fingers, firmly gripping the crossed wrists to keep them pinned.
“Ha? sister…” Lin Li, with her hands restrained, frowned and twisted, trying to break free. Her feverish left eye was clouded with confusion. “It hurts so much, it’s so painful.”
Help me!
Wen Jingzhi knelt on one knee beside her, leaning down and closing her eyes. Her free right hand rose to pinch the edge of the scent blocker patch on the back of her neck, pulling it off and discarding it.
The scent of snow instantly filled the entire bedroom. In the next moment, the released pheromones purposefully surged toward the Alpha on the bed, enveloping her completely.
The cool, composed woman with closed eyes quickly showed a flush at the corners of her eyes. Her chest rose and fell, her Adam’s apple bobbing repeatedly.
Pheromones could convey emotions.
On the day of her differentiation, all she had felt was pain. But now, that pain was tinged with a few strands of damp desire.
The girl’s sobbing gasps were right by her ear, each one louder than the last.
The wrists beneath her palm struggled and twisted restlessly, rubbing against her palm.
A slight ache spread through her waist, and she couldn’t resist lowering her upper body. Her right hand braced against the bed, her wrist pressed against the girl’s soft, burning waist.
In her struggle, the girl curled her legs, her knee brushing against Wen Jingzhi’s waist. Wen Jingzhi opened her eyes, bringing her other knee onto the bed as well. She tilted her body, pressing the front of her calf against the girl’s thigh and applying slight pressure to hold her down.
“Mmm—” The Alpha, with both hands and feet restrained, kept letting out soft moans of discomfort.
Wen Jingzhi closed her eyes again, but the dryness in her throat only intensified.
When vision fails, hearing becomes more acute. The sounds of pained moans, muffled groans, and hoarse panting continuously reached her ears, tugging at her heartstrings again and again.
After what felt like an eternity, the Alpha’s struggles weakened, and their breathing gradually calmed.
A few more minutes passed before a raspy call came from beneath her.
“Sister.”
Wen Jingzhi abruptly opened her eyes, meeting that moist left eye. The next moment, the eye closed, a single glistening tear tracing down from its corner.
Lin Li, now conscious, was overwhelmed with shame and agony.
She had in front of her sister.
“Don’t cry.” Wen Jingzhi’s heart ached sharply. She released her grip, stepped back, and pulled Lin Li into a tight embrace. “It’s alright.”
“You’re just sick.”
Lin Li buried her face in the crook of Wen Jingzhi’s neck. The latter trembled slightly but suppressed the urge to pull away. She grabbed the coat from the hanger, draped it over Lin Li, and carried her downstairs.
Half an hour later, in the car, Lin Li’s fever returned. Blood beaded from the gland on the back of her neck, and she curled into a ball in the passenger seat from the pain. Wen Jingzhi’s expression darkened further as she pressed the accelerator to the floor.
At the hospital, Wen Jingzhi rushed to the pheromone specialty floor, carrying Lin Li in her arms. As the elevator doors opened and she spotted the person standing next to Su Yue, she tightened her hold on the one she carried.
It was Qiao Xian.
Any Omega’s pheromones would do, so the Alpha she had just soothed was now meant to be comforted by someone else?
