- Chapter 63.1 - Invading Like a Wolf
Thinking back on everything that happened last night, Pei Jiuyao couldn’t help feeling a little regretful.
Originally, she thought she would keep her distance for a while—at least make Chi Yang suffer a little.
Their confrontation should’ve begun with her questions and ended with Chi Yang’s answers. She was the one who’d been “dumped” back then. She was the one who should be demanding an explanation—why Chi Yang had said such cruel things in the past, and why she now dared to declare she was going to win her back.
What did Chi Yang take her for?
A toy to be tossed aside and picked up again?
But she hadn’t asked.
Because Pei Jiuyao already knew the answer.
And knowing the answer meant she couldn’t really blame her.
All that so-called “bullying” was nothing more than a bit of idle amusement—maybe even a form of flirtation.
As for leaving Chi Yang behind, or abandoning her after finishing the mission?
Pei Jiuyao had never—not once—considered it.
Call her lovestruck if you want, or, to put it nicely, someone who loves and hates with her whole heart.
Pei Jiuyao knew she was probably doomed for life—utterly incapable of watching the person she loved get hurt.
No wonder she kept falling into the same damn pit again and again.
As long as Chi Yang showed even a flicker of collapse, of vulnerability, Pei Jiuyao’s defenses would drop completely, and she’d accept everything about her.
The Chi Yang hidden beneath all that chaos and helplessness, beneath the brittle shell of loneliness and confusion, was a handful of cold white ice—shattering sharp enough to draw blood.
And yet she was also a clear lake-blue pool—her thorns came fast, but they melted just as quickly, dissolving into the soft night, obedient in an instant.
Early the next morning, Pei Jiuyao handed the medicine to Wen Li, asking her to help check what exactly Chi Yang had been taking.
When she went out to cook breakfast with Ding Yinghan, the others came out one after another.
Then Pei Jiuyao heard Yang Ling say from the living room,
“Chi Yang-jie, your back, are you hurt?”
Pei Jiuyao brought out the eggs and toast Ding Yinghan had just made and took up an excellent observation spot.
In the living room, Chi Yang reached back to rub her nape, sounding surprised.
“Here? Su Yin, can you take a look?”
She wore a low–necked T-shirt, hair tied up high, exposing her pale nape completely.
Her gland was a little red—and on it was a faint bite mark.
The moment Su Yin leaned in, her expression changed.
Yang Ling, who had never been marked before, hadn’t dared to look closely.
Besides, who would even imagine that Chi Yang—an Alpha—would be the one getting marked?
So, she assumed it was just an injury.
But Su Yin looked carefully.
That was a bite mark. A fresh one.
Chi Yang’s back gland had been bitten—meaning the other party must be an Alpha.
It could only be Ding Yinghan or Pei Jiuyao.
And as far as Su Yin knew, Ding Yinghan had a girlfriend—a fellow host at the station.
Which meant.
It could only be Pei Jiuyao!
Her gaze snapped past Chi Yang, horrified, straight toward Pei Jiuyao.
Pei Jiuyao quickly looked away and called upstairs,
“Sisters, breakfast is ready!”
As she turned toward the kitchen, she heard Chi Yang laugh lightly,
“Probably just slept on it wrong. Su Yin, do you have any suppressant patches? I need one.”
Pei Jiuyao was speechless.
And what does ‘sleeping on it wrong’ have to do with suppressant patches?
“M–my suppressants are Omega-use.”
Su Yin was so shocked she even forgot she was still competing with Chi Yang.
Still stunned, she pulled out a suppressant patch and handed it to her.
Chi Yang tore it open and slapped it directly onto her neck.
Even more conspicuous.
Pei Jiuyao thought,
If you just let your hair down, no one would even see the bite mark.
During breakfast, Pei Jiuyao’s mind kept replaying the moment she marked Chi Yang.
She’d always thought she wasn’t the type with cravings—at least not the type whose head was full of filth.
Whenever she saw Chi Yang, she never had some uncontrollable physical urge.
After all, for her, the emotional intimacy of the relationship far outweighed any physical pleasure.
Compared to sex—something they’d done on the first night they met—Pei Jiuyao found hugging, eye contact, kissing, and confessing far more moving.
Before, she could lie in Chi Yang’s arms doing nothing at all—just holding her the whole night, body heat blending, heartbeats touching—and that alone was enough to make her dizzy with excitement.
But last night.
Just pinning Chi Yang against the wall, holding her, stroking the soft skin of her nape, tracing the lines of her slender yet full body.
She’d almost wanted to tear her apart, pierce her, possess her, devour her whole, and lick her clean.
When her teeth sank into Chi Yang’s gland and their pheromones tangled, Pei Jiuyao nearly lost her sanity.
And in that moment when Chi Yang looked at her with hazy, reddened eyes—just that one glance—Pei Jiuyao climaxed in her skull a thousand times over.
If she hadn’t almost brushed against the fabric draped over the camera lens when she tried to push Chi Yang onto the bed, they would’ve made another mess of the entire room.
After Chi Yang left, Pei Jiuyao had to relieve herself three times in the bathroom—mouth full of sickly sweet strawberry, the air turning into strawberry, the bathroom so hot it felt like it had caught fire.
She raised her eyes now—and met Chi Yang’s gaze across the dining table.
A gentle nudge brushed her calf beneath the table.
The bread in her mouth suddenly tasted like strawberry jam.
She froze, swallowed wrong, and coughed while grabbing a full glass of water.
Chi Yang stood to pat her back, voice soft:
“Slow down.”
As Pei Jiuyao lifted her head, her eyes fell on the white gauze covering Chi Yang’s neck.
Chi Yang was definitely doing this on purpose.
By the time the day’s filming ended, the show announced a camping barbecue for the night.
Ding Yinghan used the budget to redeem food supplies and was prepping ingredients.
Pei Jiuyao and Su Yin were setting up tents and a windbreak; Chi Yang and Yang Ling were assembling the grill; the older sisters helped set out tables and stools.
The night wind was strong, making the tent difficult to pitch.
Su Yin wasn’t much help, so Pei Jiuyao was practically doing all the work alone.
Chi Yang glanced over several times.
Halfway through assembling the grill, she walked over and patted Yang Ling.
“You’re too small. I’ll help Jiuyao with the tent—you go help with the grill.”
Su Yin glanced at Pei Jiuyao first.
Seeing Pei Jiuyao buried in work and not even looking this way, her confidence swelled again.
Who even knew whether the mark was really made by Pei Jiuyao?
And even if it was—what did that prove?
Besides, ever since her allergy incident, she hadn’t gotten the chance to interact intimately with Pei Jiuyao at all.
Even the best editor couldn’t fabricate a CP out of thin air.
No matter what happened tonight, she could not back down.
Su Yin shook her head firmly. “Senior, don’t tell me you just didn’t want to set up the grill and decided to dump it on me on purpose?”
“The grill’s easier than the tent, isn’t it?” Chi Yang let out a soft laugh. “You’re an Omega. I’m just being considerate.”
“No need, Senior. Jiuyao and I work well together. If you make me switch partners now, it might slow us down.”
Su Yin glanced toward the grill. “Sister Yinghan’s almost done prepping the ingredients. You should go.”
Chi Yang’s face went completely cold.
Even if it was all for show, she couldn’t stand the cutesy, clingy Omega orbiting Pei Jiuyao. Not when she’d already dropped hints—very clear hints—about staking her claim.
The girl still dared to stick close even after seeing the bite mark on Chi Yang’s nape. The audacity.
Chi Yang really couldn’t tell whether this little Omega was truly oblivious or deliberately provoking her.
Avoiding Pei Jiuyao’s line of sight, Chi Yang lowered her voice.
“She’s mine. Be smart. Whatever on-camera fanservice you want is fine, and I can even get you resources. But—”
She didn’t expect Chi Yang to be this direct. Su Yin froze with her hand on the tent pole, then chuckled.
“Senior, what resources could I possibly want that my family can’t give me? I just want to rely on myself.”
“If you really wanted to rely on yourself, you wouldn’t have let your mother shove you into this show.” Chi Yang sneered.
“You think you deserve to ride Pei Jiuyao’s popularity on your own? What exactly are you trying to do?”
Su Yin looked up, eyes bright with a provocative curve to her smile.
“Then I’ll be blunt too. I’m building the ‘Alpha-killer’ persona. Who knows—after the show, the CP might continue. And if we keep it up long enough, something else might happen. Whether Pei Jiuyao likes you or not is one thing, but chasing after someone, you still have to see if she wants it.”
Chi Yang frowned. “Su Yin, you don’t even like Pei Jiuyao. Why cling to her? You could leech off anyone—why steal mine?”
“I didn’t before,” Su Yin said, smile fading. “But now it’s different. A gentle, mild-tempered top Alpha, the industry’s biggest star for eight straight years—once you taste something that good, how could you not want more?”
The two of them turned behind the tent, out of the camera’s view. Su Yin leaned in and whispered,
“In family background and looks, I’m not worse than you. And I’m an Omega.”
A blade-cold aura rippled around Chi Yang. She grabbed the back of Su Yin’s neck in one swift motion.
Realizing Chi Yang was also an Alpha, Su Yin stiffened, trembling. “What are you doing? We’re still filming!”
“You should be grateful we are filming.” Chi Yang leaned close, her light brown eyes icy enough to freeze.
“You think you can compete with me in background and looks? I’m Bai Zhi’s business partner. One word from me and your mother will be kicked out of her VP position at Xingchong. In business, profit rules everything. Do you understand that, little girl?”
“Pei Jiuyao is mine. If you just want clout, I don’t care. But if you dare covet her—forget this industry, I’ll make sure you’re kicked out of Haishi.”
“But Pei Jiuyao doesn’t even like you!” Su Yin yelped despite her fear.
Chi Yang’s gaze darkened. She gritted her teeth.
“Whether she likes me or not is between us. It’s not your place to comment.”
Su Yin had never expected the famously gentle, mild-tempered Best Actress to be this cold, this ruthless in private.
She had dared push because she’d heard Chi Yang was easygoing.
But now, Chi Yang had threatened to drive her out of Haishi.
How could this possibly be the same Chi Yang from the rumors?
Growing up among the top circles herself, Su Yin wasn’t naïve. She knew about the Chi family’s succession fights—and the news from years ago about Chi Yang getting shot.
A woman who survived a battlefield of knives and bullets was never going to be simple. A threat from her was never empty talk.
But Su Yin still refused to lose.
While the two stared each other down, Pei Jiuyao walked over. Seeing Chi Yang’s hand locked around Su Yin’s neck, she suddenly recalled what Chu Si had once said that Chi Yang had carved out her gland. If that was true, then Chi Yang might—
“What are you two doing?”
Both turned around instantly.
Pei Jiuyao raised a brow.
“Yang Ling’s over there starting the charcoal fire alone. If neither of you wants to go, then the two of you set up the tent. I’ll help her.”
“Wait!” Chi Yang released Su Yin and stepped forward.
“Su Yin said she’s not strong enough to set up the tent and asked me to switch with her.”
She then smiled and looked back. “Right, Su Yin?”
Su Yin instinctively flinched and stormed off toward Yang Ling with a stiff, resentful expression.
Pei Jiuyao looked at the last unassembled tent and sighed. She suddenly felt like she didn’t need anyone’s help after all.
Well, Chi Yang was stronger than Su Yin—and much more efficient.
She wasn’t some pampered heiress, and after her secondary differentiation into an Omega, she and Pei Jiuyao quickly set up the final tent, saving Pei a lot of trouble.
Standing beside her, Pei Jiuyao kept thinking about the way Chi Yang had grabbed Su Yin’s neck. After some internal struggle, she finally said,
“Su Yin and I are just doing contractual fanservice. Don’t scare her like that.”
“Me? Scare her?” Chi Yang snorted, still adjusting the tent.
“You think it’s just fanservice. Su Yin doesn’t.”
“I don’t feel like she likes me at all. She’s just fragile.”
