- Chapter 50.2 - Holding My Hand, Clutching with Her Own Strength
At the moment of marking, it was as if she was submerged in wine—intoxicated, undone. Pei Jiuyao’s fingers slid slowly down her spine.
Her body trembled with every stroke.
“Want me harder?” Pei Jiuyao teased deliberately.
It had been so long since Chi Yang heard such filth from her lips—part of her missed it, but she still couldn’t withstand it. Her ears flushed scarlet.
Through panting breaths, she snapped, “Do you really need to ask?”
Pei Jiuyao chuckled against her ear. “How would I know unless I ask? Want me harder, then?”
Her bite deepened.
“Ah—it hurts! Softer!” Chi Yang cried out.
Pei Jiuyao pulled her into her arms. “Then I won’t move.”
Her eyes unfocused, Chi Yang collapsed against the pillow, gasping. “You’re doing this on purpose!”
Pei Jiuyao brushed away her tears with a fingertip, coaxing lowly, “Then you do it. Hold my hand.”
Chi Yang, catching her breath, kicked her lightly, chuckling. “Then what do I need you for? A pillow?”
“Stop fooling around.” She turned, biting down on her shoulder. “I want you.”
…
Their breaths tangled in disarray. When it was over, they lay entwined, gasping. Pei Jiuyao smeared a glistening thread across Chi Yang’s hand. Chi Yang blushed and muttered “Too much,” pulling a tissue to wipe it away.
“Do you like me?” Pei Jiuyao asked, muffled against her body.
Chi Yang stroked her hair. “Very good. You did very well.”
Pei Jiuyao burrowed into her chest, her ears inexplicably burning.
After a pause, Chi Yang shifted, pressing Pei Jiuyao down instead.
“We agreed—you’d let me bite you.” Her fox-like eyes tilted upward, stained crimson, breathtakingly beautiful.
Pei Jiuyao’s heart thudded hard. She obediently rolled over, baring her gland.
Chi Yang’s lips curved as she pressed them down.

After the New Year, work gradually resumed. When Pei Jiuyao and Chi Yang arrived on the set of Shan Hai, the crew had already gathered back.
Pei Jiuyao had only one scene left—the very audition scene from the beginning. Chi Yang, however, still had several more before she could wrap.
When Pei Jiuyao woke, she’d heard of Old Madam Chi’s passing, and thought Chi Yang must have been deeply grieved.
In the end, Chi Yang said she had never been that close to her grandmother, so grief wasn’t really the right word—what troubled her more was that Chi Qing would start stirring things up again.
Every time Chi Qing was mentioned, she couldn’t help worrying. This little fox, who always insisted she and Chi Qing had no relationship, still carried her in her heart as the only true family she had.
Pei Jiuyao didn’t know exactly what had happened between the two of them. But when Chi Qing was suddenly thrown into that strange new world, she had to face the whole weight of the family alone—and with her ruthless, profit-first nature…
She must have said some cruel things just to force Chi Yang into taking over the Chi family.
Perhaps she hadn’t expected Chi Yang to be less obedient than she looked. When Chi Qing tried to shove her into the company, Chi Yang deliberately went into the entertainment industry instead, just to prove her choice was not wrong.
From Chi Qing’s perspective, though, she should never have been tied down by these family messes in the first place. Yet because Chi Yang refused to go back, Chi Qing had to shoulder alone a family business that was never meant to be hers. Step by step, the once-unwanted “orphan girl” fought her way up to stand on equal footing with the elders. That hadn’t been easy.
The two of them were simply living on different frequencies.
Still, with Chi Qing holding up that side of things, Chi Yang had a lot more peace of mind. And since the lawsuit against Tianji was now in Qin Hao’s hands, she could at least focus on finishing her filming without distraction.
Lin Leyi wasted no time. Barely a day after arriving, the set was ready, and the shooting schedule had been released.
Since Pei Jiuyao had only one scene left before wrapping, Lin Leyi arranged for her to shoot first.
Just as they were about to rig the wire harness, Pei Jiuyao felt the inner lining of her costume wrinkle uncomfortably, so she went back to the lounge and asked Chi Yang to fix it for her.
Chi Yang asked, “Once you finish, do you plan to stay with the crew or head back?”
“Of course I’ll stay here—with you.” Pei Jiuyao was still fussing with her collar.
“I want you with me too. But you only just woke up from that coma. Don’t you think you should rest a little?” Chi Yang brushed her hands away, stepping forward to neaten her clothes herself. While doing so, she casually stroked Pei Jiuyao’s gland, making her body tremble all over.
“Don’t start a fire,” Pei Jiuyao warned, pinching Chi Yang’s cheek. “Resting here or at home makes no difference. Am I really that fragile in your eyes?”
“Hmph, I just want to set you on fire.” Chi Yang leaned in and kissed her lips.
When the kiss broke, she clung to Pei Jiuyao and muttered, “It’s still cold, and there’s no heating here. The conditions are awful. Let’s go back to the villa so you can recover properly.”
Pei Jiuyao rubbed her hair. “I’m really fine. Shooting’s about to start. We’ll talk about this afterward, okay?”
As they walked out together, a sudden scream rang from outside, followed by the sound of chaos.
Chi Yang froze. Instinctively, she grabbed Pei Jiuyao’s hand, her body trembling.
“Don’t go out there.”
“What’s wrong?” Pei Jiuyao looked at her in confusion. “We should check—it sounded serious.”
Chi Yang’s lashes quivered violently. Nearly half a minute passed before she let out a long breath and tightened her grip on Pei Jiuyao’s hand. “Let’s go. I… I just got nervous for a moment.”
For some reason, the noise had triggered a flashback—of that time in the hospital, when Pei Jiuyao had been injected with a muscle relaxant. For that split second just now, Chi Yang’s emotions had nearly collapsed.
Outside, the set was in chaos.
As Pei Jiuyao passed, she caught someone by the arm and asked, “What happened?”
Several people in white coats rushed past them into the soundstage.
“Is someone hurt?”
An actor standing on the sidelines looked tense. “I didn’t see clearly. They said the wire came loose—an actor fell.”
Pei Jiuyao and Chi Yang exchanged a glance, their eyes darkening at the same time. They pushed through the crowd and rushed in.
“Sheng Xia!” they both cried out in unison.
Sheng Xia was sitting on the ground, clutching her ankle. Several medics in white coats stood nearby. A woman lay beside her.
On the other side, An stood with a large scrape on her arm, blood dripping steadily as a doctor dressed the wound.
“Sheng Xia, are you okay?” Chi Yang frowned as she hurried over.
Sheng Xia looked up. “I’m fine—just twisted my ankle. But this woman…”
She glanced at the stranger beside her.
When the wire gave way, the drop wasn’t from very high up, but enough to cause fractures. Two women she’d never seen before had appeared out of nowhere and managed to break her fall.
One of them was clearly badly hurt—likely with broken bones. She couldn’t even straighten up and was quickly lifted into an ambulance.
Chi Yang looked toward An, who shook her head.
Lin Leyi’s voice rang out in fury: “That wire has been checked dozens of times! How could it suddenly come loose?!”
The crowd fell silent. Staff members hung their heads, looking pale and nervous. Luckily, no one had died. Otherwise the consequences would have been disastrous.
Lin Leyi cast a sharp glance at Chi Yang and Pei Jiuyao. “You two—come with me.”
Once in the lounge, Lin Leyi shut the door and demanded, “Did something happen with the Chi family?”
Chi Yang’s brows furrowed. “Why do you say that?”
“That wire was originally meant for Pei Jiuyao. She went out to fix her costume, so Sheng Xia took her place without knowing.”
A ringing buzz filled Chi Yang’s ears. Her eyelids fluttered rapidly.
For that moment, she could neither hear nor see anything. Only when Pei Jiuyao gently squeezed her fingers did she manage to murmur, “It was meant for Pei Jiuyao?”
“But she’s fine, isn’t she?” Pei Jiuyao, though startled, quickly noticed Chi Yang’s state and whispered comfortingly.
Chi Yang gripped her hand tightly. “My grandmother just passed away. Yes, the Chi family is in turmoil, but they’d never go as far as murder. It might just be an accident.”
“And yet you brought mercenaries with you,” Lin Leyi countered, “which tells me the situation is worse than you admit.”
Chi Yang raised her eyes. “Don’t worry. Chi Qing has been in that family for eighteen years. She can take care of herself.”
Lin Leyi gave a short, cold laugh. “It’s not her I’m worried about. It’s you.”
Chi Yang clenched her teeth. “Then… maybe Pei Jiuyao and I should withdraw from the shoot.”
Lin Leyi’s fingers curled into a fist, her tone edged with anger. “We’re more than halfway through filming. Do you think you can just walk away? I’ll have the police involved soon. For now, the two of you stay put. But remember this: whoever did this will strike again if unchecked. If not here, then somewhere else. Do you understand?”
Chi Yang nodded.
After Lin Leyi left, she collapsed bonelessly onto the sofa.
“They wouldn’t do this,” Chi Yang said after a moment, lifting her head. “Otherwise, the target would’ve been me, not you.
“And they wouldn’t dare. I’ve known them long enough to be certain of that much.”
Pei Jiuyao sat beside her, silent for a while.
Inwardly, she asked 7023: If I’m killed in this world, will I end up in the Land of the Unclaimed again?
7023 paused, then replied:
【According to the current data, ‘mission failure’ only occurs if you fail to gain the heroine’s full favor before the original owner is rejected—specifically, before ‘Pei Jiuyao’ has her gland cut out.
Death before that does not count as failure. There’s been one recorded case: the timeline reset.】
“A reset?”
【Yes. Everything starts over from the beginning.】
So she wouldn’t actually die. A strange sense of relief washed over Pei Jiuyao.
“Then why was I sent there before?”
【Because your body remained alive and the mission hadn’t failed. You were the only one whose soul went there.】 After a long pause, 7023 added: 【It may have been… a bug.】
A bug, huh.
You really couldn’t trust higher-dimensional beings—even when they were your system.
Suddenly remembering something, Pei Jiuyao turned to Chi Yang. “Do you still remember who exposed you as an Omega?”
Chi Yang met her gaze.
“We couldn’t decide whether it was Sheng Xia or Qiao Lu. But now that Sheng Xia’s been hurt…” Pei Jiuyao said slowly.
Chi Yang instantly understood what she meant.
“So it was Qiao Lu. Mo Tian must have been the one pulling the strings.”
