- Chapter 127 - “A-Bie Is a Little Jealousy Demon”
Leng Jinxi’s attention was instantly drawn away; the sulky expression she had moments ago disappeared as she followed Lin Bie’s gaze. Sure enough, there was a faint-colored blur in the roadside grass.
They exchanged a glance and opened the car door. Leng Jinxi carefully tucked the marriage certificate into her pocket with a light pat, then the two of them cautiously walked toward the patch of grass.
The kitten appeared to be injured—it lay motionless, curled up among the blades of grass. As they approached, they finally saw it clearly: a light-colored silver tabby Maine Coon. The little cat was curled up in a tiny nest it had made from twigs, fast asleep, purring softly as it used its fluffy tail as a pillow.
“Little Guai!” Leng Jinxi blurted out, her voice thick with emotion.
Lin Bie looked closely too. The dusty little kitten looked incredibly similar to the one who used to nuzzle up to her feet in another world.
But… wasn’t Little Guai from that other world? How could she be here…?
Perhaps Leng Jinxi’s voice had stirred the kitten. The Maine Coon opened its big eyes—pupils like crystalline emeralds, glimmering with a hypnotic shine.
Still groggy from sleep, the kitten blinked in confusion, its sharp eyes filled with curiosity as it stared at the two of them. Leng Jinxi slowly extended a hand and gently tapped the kitten’s head.
In an instant, the kitten became alert and let out a sharp, indignant “meow!” Lin Bie quickly grabbed Leng Jinxi’s hand and stepped protectively in front of her.
The kitten leapt gracefully out of its makeshift nest and landed on the ground, eyeing the two humans with regal suspicion. Then it sat down and began licking its paw with elegant poise. Though covered in dusty fur, the cat was surprisingly clean—like a princess fallen to earth who’d still managed to take care of herself.
Leng Jinxi rested her chin on Lin Bie’s shoulder, staring at the unafraid little cat with a grin that just wouldn’t fade.
“Little Guai,” she called softly again. To her surprise, the kitten paused its grooming, tilted its head, and gave a light “meow” in response.
Lin Bie: “!”
Did she just… respond?
“Little Guai? Meow-meow?” she tried again skeptically.
The kitten flopped over onto its back, stretched lazily, and ignored them.
Releasing Lin Bie’s arm, Leng Jinxi stepped forward and crouched beside the kitten. She reached out and gently stroked its fluffy body. The kitten didn’t resist—instead, it purred louder and more contentedly.
With a smile that curved her eyes into crescents, Leng Jinxi lifted the kitten into her arms. Her eyes glowed with soft light. “It really is Little Guai. She comes back to me.” She caressed the kitten’s cheeks, and Little Guai obediently stretched out her tongue to lick her fingertips.
“Does Little Guai have her own Cat System too?” Lin Bie approached, helping smooth the kitten’s fur and looking around. “This is the outskirts of town… how did she end up all the way out here?”
Leng Jinxi answered confidently, “Little Guai knew we would be passing through here and waited for us on purpose. Isn’t that right, baby?” She scratched the kitten’s chin, her voice full of excitement and affection. “How did you know? Did the Cat System tell you?”
“Maybe she made a deal with the Cat System to come here,” Lin Bie added logically. After traveling through so many parallel worlds, she’d developed a strong heart—and even offered a theory herself. “Or maybe you picked her up in that world as a side plot, and when you left the world, she followed you here.”
Leng Jinxi didn’t argue. “That’s probably it.” She stroked the kitten’s fur with guilt in her voice. “Little Guai is so amazing. I’m sorry, sweetheart, Mommy left you out in the world all alone for so long. Come on, let’s go home, okay?”
Lin Bie opened the car door and helped Leng Jinxi in. Once inside, she shifted their original route and headed toward a pet hospital. Though the kitten was lively and affectionate, they had no idea what she’d been through while wandering. She might’ve eaten something bad or gotten hurt.
Following the GPS, they quickly arrived at a nearby animal clinic. After a full check-up, they were relieved to find that Little Guai was generally healthy—aside from a bit of malnutrition, there were no major issues. The two of them then rushed to a pet store, buying everything: cat bed, cat food, bowls, litter, climbing tree. By the time they got home, it was already evening.
The kitten was full of energy. As soon as Lin Bie opened the door, she jumped out of Leng Jinxi’s arms, tail held high, exploring her new territory. Meanwhile, the two women hurried to take off their coats at the entrance and immediately started unpacking and assembling all the pet supplies—no time to even think about dinner.
After a bath, the formerly dusty kitten transformed into a beautiful little creature. Once her inspection of the house was done, she jumped onto the couch and started grooming herself, occasionally glancing at the humans who were putting her things together.
Worried she might be hungry, Lin Bie poured out some cat food and water, then helped organize the newly assembled furniture. When she came back, she hadn’t even looked up yet when she heard Leng Jinxi’s voice, sweet-talking the cat.
“Little Guai is so good. You’re such a clever and wonderful kitty. Want to sleep with Mommy tonight? Mommy will hold you close to sleep.”
Just as Lin Bie looked over, she saw Leng Jinxi crouched gently, petting the kitten as she nibbled at her food.
Lin Bie clenched her jaw slightly and glanced at the clock on the wall—already 9 PM. Neither of them had eaten yet. Without a word, she turned and headed to the kitchen, working nonstop to cook.
This house was close to Hengdian Studios, and it was where Leng Jinxi sometimes stayed overnight after filming. Lin Bie hadn’t been here much, and her memories of it were vague, so it took a bit of time to figure out the appliances.
As she busied herself, she could still hear Leng Jinxi talking to the kitten in the living room—the lively chatter of woman and cat contrasting sharply with the quiet of the kitchen. Lin Bie’s long lashes drooped. Her lips pouted slightly.
Today was their first day as a married couple. And Leng Jinxi’s attention had barely been on her.
She was happy Little Guai was back—but she couldn’t help feeling just a little bit… left out. Just a tiny bit. She told herself she will get over it soon.
She refocused on cooking, unaware that the door had opened behind her—until Leng Jinxi wrapped her arms around her from behind, pulling her into a warm embrace.
“What’s wrong?” Lin Bie asked, surprised. “Did Little Guai fall asleep?”
Leng Jinxi rested her cheek against Lin Bie’s neck, voice full of affection. “She was exhausted from wandering. Ate some food and fell asleep right away.”
Her arms tightened around Lin Bie’s waist as she caught the scent of food. “Smells so good. Suddenly, I’m starving.” But even as she spoke, her lips moved to press kisses along Lin Bie’s neck—like she would rather devour her wife than the food cooking on the stove.
Lin Bie let her kiss her, hands never pausing their stirring. “Dinner’s almost ready. We’ve been busy all day setting up for Little Guai—we only had one meal. You must be starving.”
“Mhm.” Leng Jinxi responded with closed eyes, lazy and content. The marriage certificate in her inner pocket rested close to her heart, making her feel completely at ease.
“I’m so hungry… I want to eat dinner, and also…” Her hands wandered up Lin Bie’s waist, fingers tracing gently to her lips.
“A-Bie…”
Lin Bie’s hand froze mid-stir, nearly flinging food out of the pan. In the two months at the hospital, they hadn’t really done anything intimate—out of concern for her condition. But today was their first day of marriage, and also the day they were discharged. If there was ever a right time, it was now.
Her ears flushed red. “Ahem… That’s… not suitable for children.”
Leng Jinxi blinked innocently. “Children?”
“Well, you said you’re sleeping with Little Guai tonight. She’s still a baby.” Lin Bie mumbled, then muttered under her breath, “You’re not even holding me to sleep. Not like I care or anything.”
She thought Leng Jinxi didn’t hear, but the truth was—they were so close, Leng Jinxi could feel her every breath. Of course she heard.
“Pfft—”
Leng Jinxi suddenly laughed, unable to hold it in. Lin Bie froze, her ears burning red. “What are you laughing at?”
Leng Jinxi buried her face in Lin Bie’s shoulder, laughing uncontrollably. Even when Lin Bie tried to shake her off, she wouldn’t let go—only hugged tighter. Technically, Lin Bie could’ve broken free easily, but after two weak attempts, she gave up. Her ears, face, and neck were all flushed red—like a stiff little wooden doll.
After laughing her fill, Leng Jinxi leaned close again. Her warm heartbeat pulsed through the fabric, echoing against Lin Bie’s chest.
“So that’s why you were sulking…” she said, poking Lin Bie’s cheek with a finger. Her voice, clear and gentle, carried infinite affection and teasing.
“A-Bie,” she said with a grin, “you really are a little jealousy demon.”
