- Chapter 11 - The Second Way to Eat Grapes, A Hero Saves the Beauty, But No One Is Watching
After sending off a business partner whose face was masked in total despair, Yue Mingcang finished his scheduled tasks for the day and began trying on a suit that had arrived just yesterday.
Lately, he had been dreaming of Long Yin every single night. In his dreams, Long Yin was as beautiful as in reality, but his attitude was much better. After giving Yue Mingcang a stern spanking, Long Yin would stay and try out every single position Yue Mingcang wanted to explore. Unfortunately, however beautiful the dream was, reality remained cruel.
The invitations for the New Port naming ceremony had been sent out in a wide circle, reaching almost everyone involved with Longmen Port, yet none reached him. When he learned that even a business partner who was about to give up on entrepreneurship to go home and farm had received an invitation, he felt so bitter he nearly melted on the spot. Ultimately, he had to sadly buy an invitation from that departing partner. He then specifically ordered a custom suit, planning to watch the ceremony from afar and leave immediately after.
Yue Mingcang finished grooming himself and was prepared to follow his plan when his office door was suddenly kicked open. He was not the only one dissatisfied with the company’s lack of an invitation; Yue Yuling was as well.
Yue Yuling marched in aggressively to settle the score. “Brother, what is going on with you? You told me a couple of days ago that we would definitely get an invitation. It is almost time. Where is the invitation?”
Yue Mingcang tightened his tie and said coldly, “There is none. If you want one, figure it out yourself.”
Yue Yuling snapped, “Can you actually serve Long Yin properly or not? If you cannot do it, let me try!”
“Go somewhere else and stay cool,” Yue Mingcang replied. He did not mention that he had secretly bought an invitation, and he coldly rejected Yue Yuling’s suggestion.
“Fine! You broke your promise and all you do is shout at me. I am not talking to you anymore!” Yue Yuling left in a huff.
Yue Mingcang let out a sigh, grabbed his phone, and headed out.
After the ribbon-cutting ceremony for the New Port, a charity auction gala was to be held at a hotel under the Long Family banner. The entire hotel below the fifteenth floor had been booked, but the suites from the sixteenth floor up were unaffected. Yue Mingcang took advantage of this loophole and booked a room in advance.
Once he finished checking in, he sat at a window seat in the fifth-floor buffet restaurant. As he looked out, the ceremony happened to reach the moment of Long Yin’s ribbon-cutting. As the silver scissors snipped down, ribbons fluttered onto Long Yin’s body and hair, making him look like an unwrapped gift. Watching this made Yue Mingcang’s eyes burn. He drank glass after glass of ice water, trying to suppress the fire in his heart.
Long Yin held the microphone and announced the name of the New Port before the gathered crowd. The New Port was not far from Longmen Port, and both were along the Longmen River. Since Longmen Port already existed, “New Longmen Port” would have undoubtedly been the most appropriate name. However, the name Long Yin spoke was not “New Longmen Port,” but rather: Yue Longmen Port.
Amidst the deafening applause, Yue Mingcang’s heart pounded like a drum. Yue, Long, Men. He knew very well that the naming of the New Port had nothing to do with him; the name was merely a coincidence. But even a coincidence was enough to make his whole body heat up and his mind go into a whirlwind. Was it possible that one day, this coincidence could become reality? By then, he could stand openly by Long Yin’s side, and Long Yin would provide him with miracle after miracle, just like in his dreams.
At five o’clock in the evening, the charity auction gala began on time. Fearing he would be recognized, Yue Mingcang took off his suit and disguised himself as a waiter. He watched the entire auction from an inconspicuous corner of the hall. Long Yin took this charity auction very seriously and presented many treasures from Master Long’s private collection. Every item caused a sensation in the room. Yue Mingcang was not interested in those things. The only thing he wanted was the most unique item on the auction block: the right to have dinner with Long Yin.
This precious treasure was eventually won by a wealthy businessman for a massive sum. Yue Mingcang, who had not dared to raise his paddle, returned dejectedly to his floor. He grabbed his key card from the foyer, preparing to go home. The dinner downstairs was about to start, but Long Yin would not be there; he would be dining with the wealthy businessman in a private restaurant. This caused Yue Mingcang to lose all interest in the gala.
Before he had walked far from his door, he was stopped.
“Hello, help us check where our room is.” The person mistook him for a hotel waiter and handed him a key card.
Yue Mingcang initially wanted to ignore the request, but when he saw the person’s face, he immediately switched to a standard waiter’s smile. “Please follow me.”
It was a stroke of luck to encounter the wealthy businessman who had won the dinner with Long Yin. The businessman was accompanied by a gorgeous youth, around seventeen or eighteen years old, who was dragging a large suitcase. Yue Mingcang took the businessman’s room card, led them to his own room, swiped them in with his own card, inserted it into the power slot, and then bowed and left. After that, he immediately discarded his waiter’s jacket, messed up his hair, and went to the front desk to show his identification and get a spare room card.
Returning to the sixteenth floor, Yue Mingcang knocked gently. Seeing no answer, he immediately used the spare card to enter and slipped into the walk-in closet in the foyer. Through the wall, the conversation between the businessman and the youth drifted into his ears.
“Everything according to plan. You must take him down.”
“Do not worry. Colorless and odorless, takes effect quickly, I promise.”
“Little Master Long’s face. You are getting a real bargain.”
Shortly after, the two left the room one after another, completely unaware that another person was hidden inside. Yue Mingcang stepped out of the closet and entered the living room to investigate. The suitcase was left on the floor; it had a combination lock but was not locked. Upon opening it, he found it full of sealed plastic bags containing white powder. Yue Mingcang’s eyes darkened. He opened a bag and sniffed it, immediately determining that it was definitely not an illegal substance, but rather something like freeze-dried powder or milk powder.
This suitcase did not constitute a crime, but it could cause a disturbance during a routine room check, drawing away a large portion of the hotel security and creating an opportunity for the businessman to approach Long Yin. Yue Mingcang closed the suitcase, set a random code on the lock, placed it in a corner, and attached a note saying “Valuable items, please do not touch” before leaving the room.
With his interference, the businessman’s plan should have been thwarted, but Yue Mingcang still had a bad feeling. As he rushed toward the private restaurant on the twelfth floor, he comforted himself by thinking that a low-level tactic like drugging someone would not usually work, and everything would be fine.
He rushed out of the elevator and was stopped by bodyguards after only a few steps. They informed him that outsiders were not permitted on the twelfth floor. As Yue Mingcang retreated into the elevator, he called the second assistant. He claimed he had left something important at the auction hall and wanted to check the surveillance footage, hoping the assistant could communicate with the hotel.
At that moment, the second assistant happened to be on the twelfth floor with nothing to do, so he agreed to Yue Mingcang’s request. Yue Mingcang timed his return to the twelfth floor perfectly and waved at the approaching second assistant. Seeing that he knew the assistant, the bodyguards did not stop him and let him pass.
“Assistant Zhang, I am truly sorry to bother you.”
Just as Yue Mingcang was racking his brain to fabricate an excuse, the restaurant door nearby suddenly opened. The youth Yue Mingcang had seen earlier was now walking out, intimately holding Long Yin’s arm.
The youth said sweetly, “Sir, you are drunk. Let me take you to rest.”
Long Yin nodded, his face flushed with an abnormal redness. He walked with heavy steps in one direction. The youth added, “Little Master Long, these bodyguards are so scary. Can you ask them to stay away?”
Long Yin nodded again and waved for the bodyguards to leave.
Yue Mingcang was speechless. He had been careless. Most people might not fall for such a low-level tactic, but Long Yin was different. No matter how low-level the tactic was, he might never have encountered it. To deal with Long Yin, the items in that suitcase might not even be necessary; a few lies would probably be enough to lure him in. Although Yue Mingcang did not know what had happened during dinner, he could guess quite accurately based on his experience in the world of vanity.
The businessman likely introduced the youth to Long Yin as a “rising star,” and then the youth offered a toast with a drugged drink. Once the drug took effect, the youth used “taking care of him” as an excuse to lead Long Yin away. In a private dinner setting, Long Yin would not bring many subordinates, and the youth’s identity and gender would further lower anyone’s guard. Even if something inappropriate happened, in the eyes of outsiders, it would be seen as nothing more than a tacit exchange of money for sex. Only Yue Mingcang knew this was a trap set for Long Yin. If the two were left alone, the consequences would be unthinkable.
Seeing the youth about to lead Long Yin into a guest room next to the restaurant, Yue Mingcang pushed the second assistant aside and charged toward Long Yin like the wind. At the very last second before the door closed, he shoved his way inside and tackled the youth like a predator pouncing on its prey.
After a brief moment to catch his breath, Yue Mingcang looked up at Long Yin. His eyes sparkled with the excitement of seeking credit and a hint of an inexpressible, secret anticipation. The drug the youth used must be uncomfortable. If Long Yin needed a clean and reliable person to help him relieve the effects, then he might be just the right person.
Long Yin lowered his head and looked quietly at Yue Mingcang. The dozen bodyguards, assistants, and butlers in the room also lowered their heads and looked quietly at Yue Mingcang.
Yue Mingcang was confused. Wait, where was he? Was the room next to the restaurant not a pre-prepared guest room? Come to think of it, the door seemed to open without a key card, which did not match the characteristics of a guest room. Could it be that when the youth mentioned going to “rest,” a dazed Long Yin had led him into the temporary lounge for the subordinates?
Yue Mingcang looked around, his eyes filled with disbelief. Under the collective gaze of everyone, his face turned from pale to red, and finally back to a deathly white.
Long Yin did not speak; he continued to look at Yue Mingcang quietly. He had waited for Yue Mingcang all night, and finally, the man had arrived. The charity auction was a plot point that had not been lost even after significant wear to the original story. Long Yin had been on high alert and did not dare to be careless.
The description of the villainous boss in Longmen was: “In high spirits, drinking glass after glass until interrupted by Yue Mingcang.” Because Yue Mingcang had not appeared, and Long Yin was unsure when the plot would start, he could only drink one glass after another until he was incoherent and had to be supported out. At this moment, Long Yin looked normal on the surface, but his brain had completely stopped functioning. Simply maintaining a standing position took all of his strength.
“Who are you? Let me go! Let me go! What are you all doing? Help me!” The youth pinned by Yue Mingcang struggled violently. His tragic cries for help were the only sound in the otherwise silent lounge. Yue Mingcang was already overwhelmed, and this made him panic even more. He instinctively reached out and covered the youth’s mouth and nose. Half a minute later, the youth fainted from a lack of oxygen.
Having committed an assault in public, Yue Mingcang looked up and defended himself incoherently. “No, it is not like that. Let me explain.”
Long Yin said concisely, “Heh.”
Yue Mingcang pointed a trembling finger at the unconscious youth and said in a shaky voice, “He took the opportunity during dinner to drug you. I came to save you!”
Long Yin remained expressionless and noncommittal. The special assistant nearby could not take it anymore and reminded him, “Mr. Yue, the boss is unwell today. The originally scheduled private dinner has been postponed.”
As the words fell, several muffled, uncontrollable laughs broke out in the room. Yue Mingcang was stunned. Postponed? What was postponed? The dinner was postponed?
Details he had not had time to think through earlier now exploded in his mind like thunder. No wonder the businessman and the youth had only been downstairs for five minutes before the youth led Long Yin out. If it were a normal dinner, five minutes would barely be enough time to sit down. That meant there was no dinner at all, and no drugging. Long Yin’s drunken state had nothing to do with the youth!
As the truth emerged, Yue Mingcang realized with despair that he had no choice but to tell the truth. But what exactly was his truth? Why was he here in the first place? Yue Mingcang’s face turned bright red, and his gaze toward Long Yin was full of humble pleading. “Prince, can you please ask them to leave? I want to explain to you privately.”
Since Master Long’s death, the outside world referred to Long Yin as “Little Master Long.” However, during their first meeting, Yue Mingcang had called him “Prince.” Long Yin had not denied it at the time and allowed an uninformed Yue Mingcang to call him that over and over. Now, he used that title again, hoping Long Yin would remember that bit of history and let him go this once.
Long Yin nodded first, then asked, “Why should I?”
A strong sense of hope ignited in Yue Mingcang’s heart. Not being rejected outright meant there was room for negotiation. He began to think desperately, searching his mind for anything that could move Long Yin. His few encounters with Long Yin flashed through his mind like a lantern. Finally, he thought of a mysterious and risky move.
“Do you remember our first meeting? You asked me to eat grapes, and I unbuckled my belt.” Under the confused, shocked, and bewildered gazes of those around them, Yue Mingcang took a deep breath and finished his sentence with great difficulty. “That was because there is a second way to ‘eat’ grapes. I can tell you privately. Let them leave, and I will show you!”
Long Yin was confused. His muddled brain instantly cleared as he began to process this key information. Grapes. Were there actually other ways to eat them? Long Yin had never been able to get over the fact that the grape humiliation had not increased the humiliation value. Grape humiliation was a technique taught by a senior whom Long Yin trusted implicitly. In Long Yin’s view, the senior could not be wrong; the only problem could be himself. He must have used it incorrectly, which was why the grape humiliation failed to achieve the desired effect.
At this moment, the second way to eat grapes that Yue Mingcang mentioned hit exactly on the point Long Yin had been brooding over. With almost no hesitation, Long Yin spoke with a stern face, “Listen to him. Everyone out! Tancy, bring in a plate of grapes!”
The boss had spoken, and the subordinates had to comply. They filed out one by one, taking the unconscious youth with them. As they passed Yue Mingcang, everyone cast a silent look of disdain toward him. Whether the youth and the businessman had ulterior motives was still unclear, but this Yue Mingcang was one hundred percent up to no good.
The special assistant returned, placed a small plate of grapes on the coffee table, tidied the surface, and then turned to leave. Unlike the others, his gaze toward Yue Mingcang contained a hint of admiration mixed with disdain. That look seemed to say: a good tactic, you are quite a character.
Special Assistant: Impressive. Truly impressive.
