After the Nerd Marked the Top Omega - Chapter 25.2
It had been a while since the last marking. The pheromones at the scent gland were not very obvious, and the perceived emotions were much weaker, so this statement was more of a guess.
After a moment of silence, Pei Yunci didn’t respond to the question, only calling out, “Xiao Xu.”
“Mm.” Fang Xu responded.
Pei Yunci’s voice was mixed with the sound of the wind, and she said softly, “If I really am unhappy right now, then what?”
From entering the Pei Group to becoming the head of the group, she had faced countless doubts and maliciousness. Some people disliked her Omega status, and some doubted her ability. She could hear gossip and various rumors from time to time.
But after hearing them, she would only use means and strength to silence people, without even showing anger.
The things that could annoy her were the messy illegitimate children constantly emerging in the Pei family, as well as the “tradition” spoken of by her mother and father. But after hearing it too many times, she could manage to keep her emotions from showing on her face.
This seemed to be the first time she had revealed her emotions in front of an outsider.
Revealing her true emotions.
Fang Xu gripped the phone tighter, saying almost without thinking, “Where are you? Do you need me to come over?”
As her words fell, both of them were a little surprised.
Pei Yunci had originally only wanted to tease her, to see what comforting words she might say. Or perhaps to ask her to send some photos, but she had never intended to make her come over at night.
As for Fang Xu, she hadn’t expected herself to unconsciously say such an overstepping thing.
Although the speakerphone was off, the child heard Fang Xu’s words, stopped packing, ran to her side, and mouthed, “What’s wrong?”
Fang Xu also covered the microphone and whispered, “She doesn’t seem very happy.”
“It’s Sister Pei’s birthday today,” Fang Yi said.
Because of their mother, Fang Xu and Fang Yi both attached great importance to birthdays. Even if it wasn’t celebrated grandly, they would treat it seriously. If they had class, they would even take time off just to be with each other.
After eating the birthday cake, they would go to the local temple in Yucheng to pray for a peace charm. To ensure the coming year would be happy and smooth.
If one wasn’t happy on their birthday, something must be wrong.
Regaining her composure, Pei Yunci on the other end of the screen spoke first. “No need to bother, it’s getting late.”
Fang Yi also heard this sentence and looked at Fang Xu.
Understanding her meaning, Fang Xu turned the speakerphone back on.
Fang Yi then said, “Sister Pei, let my sister come see you.”
The person on the opposite end didn’t speak.
She continued, trying harder, “My sister also has a gift she wants to give you.”
“Is that so?” Pei Yunci said.
It was as if she was asking Yiyi, and also asking someone else.
Fang Xu also spoke up. “Yes, I’ll bring it to you now.”
Knowing that the other person was not in danger, she was still a little worried, and she also wanted to thank her for drawing the game character picture for her.
Pei Yunci paused for a moment and asked, “Is it convenient?”
“It is!” Yiyi answered with a smile.
Fang Xu didn’t object, knowing that this meant she was no longer refusing. “You can send me the address. I’ll be there soon.”
Pei Yunci acknowledged it with an “Mm” and said, “Thank you for the trouble.”
Fang Xu curved her lips. “It’s no trouble.”
Hanging up the phone, she looked at Yiyi. “If you haven’t finished packing, you can wait until I get back.”
Fang Yi: “No need. I’ll pack for another half hour, and it should be done.”
Fang Xu checked the suitcase again. “Finish packing and go to bed early. You don’t need to wait for me to return. Remember not to open the room door for strangers. I have my own room card.”
She was always careful and cautious about safety.
“I know,” Yiyi responded obediently. “Sister, you be careful on the road too.”
“Okay. Call me anytime if anything happens.”
“Mhm!”
The address Pei Yunci sent was some distance from Jiangcheng University.
Fang Xu took a taxi directly, and it didn’t take long to get there.
However, before reaching the destination, she was stopped by the security guard, who said that unauthorized vehicles were not allowed to enter.
Fang Xu got out of the car right away.
She scanned the surroundings, didn’t see Pei Yunci, and took out her phone, intending to call her.
After dialing, a very faint ringtone also sounded in her ear. Fang Xu turned around and looked back.
Pei Yunci was wearing a dark blue formal dress that draped down to her ankles. It was an off-the-shoulder style, revealing the cold white skin of her collarbone. Her long hair was scattered behind her, making her stunningly beautiful as she slowly walked toward her in the night.
The “tap” sound of her high heels was unhurried. It wasn’t until the person stood in front of her that Fang Xu snapped back to attention.
She wanted to shift her gaze, but it seemed inappropriate to look anywhere else, so she finally looked into the person’s eyes and said, “Happy Birthday.”
Pei Yunci smiled faintly. “Thank you, but I can’t offer you cake.”
The Pei family had cake, but she didn’t want to go back there.
“That’s okay,” Fang Xu walked beside her, along the side of the road.
Pei Yunci asked, “Have you and Yiyi been playing around in Jiangcheng these past few days?”
Fang Xu replied with an “Mm.” “I’m interning and couldn’t go back to Yucheng, so I brought her over to play for two days.”
The two shadows by the roadside walked side by side, moving slowly and leisurely.
Pei Yunci had been to many places, but most of the time it was for business, so she hadn’t properly explored and had visited few of Jiangcheng’s attractions. “Where did you go?”
Fang Xu listed the places they had visited these past few days: “Qianniao Lake, the ancient town… We also specifically went to a small restaurant; the food was delicious.”
After speaking, she stopped walking and looked at the person beside her. “I took a lot of photos too. Do you want to see them?”
Pei Yunci naturally didn’t refuse. “Sure.”
Fang Xu opened her photo album and slowly introduced the pictures to her. “The scenery at Qianniao Lake is great for relaxing. You can go in the evening. There are many types of birds there, and they are all very beautiful…”
While speaking, she flipped through the photos. “These two have bright blue feathers.”
Pei Yunci looked closely and said, “The White-bellied Blue Flycatcher.”
Fang Xu was a little surprised. “You know them?”
“I’ve seen them by chance,” Pei Yunci said. “That bird appeared in a game once.”
Fang Xu flipped to another photo. “What about this one?”
Pei Yunci: “The Black-billed Gull.”
“What about this one?”
“The Glossy Ibis.”
“And this one?”
Pei Yunci chuckled, “Xiao Xu, are you using me to study?”
Hearing this, Fang Xu recalled what she had said and couldn’t help but cough. “I apologize.”
Firstly, she was surprised by Pei Yunci’s extensive knowledge, and secondly, she genuinely wanted to match these birds with their names, which was why she asked a few more questions.
“It’s alright,” Pei Yunci lowered her head and looked at the screen. “Do you have any other photos?”
The two were standing quite close, their breaths mingling together.
Fang Xu felt her earlobes heating up, and a faint itch spread to her neck. She wanted to touch it but forcibly suppressed the urge. “Yes.”
Her fingertip moved, swiping to the next photo.
“Xiao Xu, Yiyi.”
Fang Xu’s eyelashes fluttered like light feathers. She didn’t react right away. “Huh?”
“Look down,” Pei Yunci said.
In her heart, she added another word: Dumbfounded.
Fang Xu looked down at the screen and realized it was a photo of her and her sister at Qianniao Lake.
When the photo was taken, the camera automatically focused on their faces, so the features of the birds in the background were unclear. Naturally, Pei Yunci couldn’t continue naming the birds; she could only say her and her sister’s names.
So that’s what it was, Fang Xu finally realized.
“Very beautiful,” Pei Yunci said.
It was unclear whether she was praising the scenery or the people in the photo.
Fang Xu didn’t think too much of it, swiping to the next photo, trying to cover up. “This one is also quite nice.”
It was inevitably awkward and uncomfortable to look at her own photos with someone else.
Pei Yunci slightly raised her eyebrows, her gaze moving to the person in front of her.
Her face was turning red again.
She didn’t say much, simply going along with the comment. “Yes, it’s quite nice.”
“Um…” Fang Xu lowered her head, wanting to swipe down again, but only now did she clearly see that the picture on the screen was neither Qianniao Lake nor the ancient town, but a screenshot of a file.
On it were the registration details for a competition sent to her by her mentor.
“…”
Pei Yunci finally couldn’t hold back and let out a light laugh.
Without needing to guess, Fang Xu knew that she must be red from her neck to her head right now.
She tried to explain, but whatever she said seemed to only make things worse.
Her lips parted and closed. After struggling for a moment, Fang Xu still asked, “Are you happier now?”
The leaves rustled. The two shadows overlapped, and their eyes met.
Pei Yunci only felt her heart being gently touched by something soft.
It wasn’t heavy, but it couldn’t be ignored.
She said, “If I’m still unhappy, what should we do?”
The smile in Pei Yunci’s eyes hadn’t faded, and the initial irritation had long since disappeared.
But she was still mischievous, asking this question just to see the reaction of the person in front of her.
Sure enough, the girl’s eyebrows lightly furrowed, and a hint of worry flashed in her eyes.
She then looked at her seriously and said, “If you’re unhappy, let’s leave here.”
Unsurprisingly, Pei Yunci was unhappy because of her family. Getting away would help her recover her mood more quickly.
Pei Yunci asked softly, “Good student, will you take me away?”
“Yes.”
As she agreed, Fang Xu had already thought of a destination. “To the apartment, or somewhere else. Even the hotel where Yiyi and I are staying is fine.”
No matter what, she would only feel relieved after taking her there.
Pei Yunci couldn’t describe her current feelings, only saying, “Yiyi said you prepared a birthday gift.”
Fang Xu didn’t know why she suddenly brought this up, but she still nodded. “I did prepare one.”
“Can I see it now?” Pei Yunci asked.
“Yes.”
When Fang Xu left the hotel, she had put the cloud fridge magnet into her pocket. But when it came time to actually take it out, she started to hesitate, wondering if this birthday gift was too simple.
Unfortunately, it was too late to back out, and there wasn’t time to prepare a more thoughtful gift.
Fang Xu took it out and added, “It’s a bit simple.”
“It’s very pretty,” Pei Yunci accepted it and said, “I like it very much.”
The stone in Fang Xu’s heart dropped a little, and she curved her lips upward. “I’m glad you like it.”
The itch on her neck was quite noticeable, and she touched it with her fingertips.
Pei Yunci was still looking at the fridge magnet’s design in the light of the streetlamp, but then she suddenly caught a whiff of a faint scent of citrus.
Her fingertip paused, and seeing the girl’s action, she asked, “Is your scent gland uncomfortable?”
Fang Xu nodded. “A little, but it’s manageable.”
“May I take a look?” Pei Yunci asked.
She had been ill for a long time, and she could judge some obvious gland symptoms.
Hearing this, Fang Xu very obediently turned around, without any hesitation, exposing her most sensitive and vulnerable gland without reservation.
Pei Yunci lowered her eyes to look. The inhibitor patch was still properly covering the gland, but the edges were slightly reddish, and the scent of pheromones wasn’t very strong.
She raised her hand, her fingertip touching that patch of skin, and the pheromones immediately wrapped around it.
Fang Xu’s body stiffened slightly, but she still didn’t move, standing obediently in place.
“Xiao Xu,” Pei Yunci said.
“Is your susceptibility period approaching?”
