After the Nerd Marked the Top Omega - Chapter 2
After leaving her dorm, Fang Xu still hadn’t received a message from the person opposite her.
Song Shu usually enjoyed going out with classmates and rarely told Fang Xu where she was.
Fortunately, today was Wednesday, the fixed class time for her dance studio.
Fang Xu had once brought an umbrella to Song Shu when it was raining, and she knew the location of the dance studio. After a moment’s thought, she decided to go there directly.
Some things were better said in person.
The distance was quite far. By the time Fang Xu arrived, it was close to two in the afternoon, but the door to the dance studio was still closed.
She didn’t know the exact class time, so she found a spot in the shade of a tree to wait.
It was inconvenient to take out her laptop, but Fang Xu wasn’t idle; she quietly organized and reviewed her professional knowledge in her mind.
The shadows of the trees gradually shifted, but the familiar figure did not appear.
She looked down at the time and subtly moved her slightly stiff legs.
“Miss, are you waiting for someone here?” the cleaning lady nearby proactively asked.
“Yes,” Fang Xu moved aside, thinking she was blocking the way. “Sorry about that.”
The cleaning lady waved her hand: “No bother. Still haven’t waited for them?”
She had seen Fang Xu arrive when she first started cleaning. Half an hour later, she was finished, but the person was still there, without even changing her spot.
“No,” Fang Xu pursed her lips and asked, “Auntie, do you know when that dance studio opens?”
The cleaning lady saw the glasses and backpack Fang Xu was wearing and immediately thought she was a good student, so she was particularly enthusiastic and told her everything she knew.
“Well, you’ve asked the right person. I work inside this dance studio.”
“It usually opens around two, but just now, an Alpha student suddenly entered their sensitive period, and they were afraid of accidents, so they temporarily closed the doors.”
Fang Xu’s eyelashes flickered. “I see. Thank you.”
“Thank me for what,” the cleaning lady was very familiar and asked her, “Are you also thinking of signing up for dance classes?”
Although it seemed a little out of character, she immediately thought that it was perfectly reasonable for studious people to have more hobbies.
Fang Xu gently shook her head, “No, a friend is here.”
The cleaning lady let out an “Ah,” and said, “Didn’t your friend tell you in advance? Why don’t you ask her where she is now?”
Fang Xu hadn’t expected this sudden change. She pursed her lips and clicked on the top contact.
After contemplating three or four times, she finally pressed the “Send” button.
$$Fang Xu: Song Shu, where are you now?$$
But the moment the message was sent, a system notification popped up.
$$She has enabled friend verification. You are not her friend yet. Please send a friend verification request first. You can only chat after she approves the verification.$$
Fang Xu turned off the screen. This situation had happened before.
Blocking, blacklisting, deleting a friend—these represented different degrees of the other person’s anger.
She habitually resent the friend request, then said goodbye to the auntie and walked toward the school.
She had just over an hour until her part-time job at the milk tea shop. If she couldn’t find Song Shu at school either, the apology would have to be put on hold for the time being.
Fang Xu didn’t like the feeling of her plan being disrupted, but whenever Song Shu was involved, her plans and time were often interrupted.
She had to deliver an umbrella when working on a major project, pick her up late at night after she finished a late-night snack, and occasionally keep an eye out for her messages during class…
Returning to school, she first went to Song Shu’s club, but didn’t find her. Finally, she found her in the school’s dance studio.
Fang Xu breathed a sigh of relief, feeling this was a rare piece of good luck today.
She stood outside and called out softly, “Song Shu.”
The person inside the dance studio noticed and patted Song Shu, who was sitting and resting next to her: “Someone seems to be calling your name. Are they looking for you?”
Hearing this, Song Shu looked up, saw Fang Xu standing outside, and the smile she had been wearing faded a little.
She came out and walked with Fang Xu towards the side of the road, stopping only when she was sure the people inside the dance studio couldn’t hear their conversation: “Why did you come here?”
After all the running around, Fang Xu’s stomach, which had just recovered, started aching faintly again.
She subtly covered it and said, “I heard that an Alpha entered their sensitive period at the dance studio. Are you okay?”
Song Shu didn’t answer her question, but caught another key point: “You went to the place where I take my dance class?”
Fang Xu nodded: “I wanted to apologize to you. I’m sorry, what happened last time was my fault.”
The reason for their argument this time was that Song Shu had told her a couple of days ago that her scent gland was hurting.
However, Fang Xu was in a professional class when the message was sent. By the time she saw the message, two hours had passed.
Even though she rushed over immediately after class, Song Shu was still angry.
“Saying this now is useless,” Song Shu was a little impatient. “Fang Xu, didn’t I make it clear to you? We’ve broken up. We have no relationship anymore, and you don’t need to keep apologizing.”
Fang Xu wasn’t adept at relationship matters and couldn’t say sweet nothings, but she was very sensitive intuitively, like a small animal.
She vaguely realized that Song Shu wasn’t just throwing a tantrum this time; she genuinely wanted to break up.
Fang Xu was a little confused, “Is it because of that incident?”
Song Shu glanced at her, saying casually, “If you think so, then so be it.”
With that, she prepared to turn and leave.
Subconsciously, Fang Xu grabbed her hand. Her usually quiet and reserved tone shifted, and if one listened carefully, they could hear a subtle sadness in it.
“Can you tell me the reason?” She asked the question again, as if she wouldn’t give up until she got an answer.
Song Shu first shook off her wrist, then subconsciously glanced in the direction of the dance studio, and only spoke after confirming no one saw: “Fine, you want the reason?”
“Because you’re mediocre and boring. All you know is how to hug that computer all day. Do you know what I like? Do we have anything in common? Being with you isn’t as comfortable as being with my classmates.”
“Because you’re a Beta, the most ordinary Beta. Do you know the scent of pheromones you carry now? You don’t know; you can’t smell it at all. When my scent gland hurts, I can only take medicine. You can’t give me any help.”
“Because I’ve fallen for someone else, an Alpha who is excellent in every way and better than you. Because I don’t like you, and I don’t want to cheat, so I can only break up with you.”
People walked past, occasionally looking at them.
Song Shu took a step back, lowered her voice, and asked word by word, “Fang Xu, can you understand now?”
These words slammed into Fang Xu’s mind without any cushioning, combined with the suppressed stomach ache, making her fingers curl involuntarily.
Unable to distinguish where the pain was, Fang Xu’s long eyelashes cast a shadow. Finally, she just nodded slightly.
She said, “Song Shu, I understand.”
After a moment of silence, she added the second half of the sentence: “Thank you for your answer.”
As soon as the words left her mouth, Fang Xu turned and left.
In the past, her message was always the last one in the chat box, and she would watch Song Shu return to her dorm.
This seemed to be the first time Song Shu watched her back.
She stood still for a moment, then turned and walked toward the dance studio.
Like two intersecting lines.
After intersecting, they moved in different directions, gradually pulling away.
Back in the dance studio, someone casually asked Song Shu, “Who was that just now?”
Song Shu ignored the inexplicable emotion in her heart and replied dismissively, “Not someone I know well.”
“Oh, okay,” the other person wasn’t too concerned about it. “Speaking of which, do you know about Pei Yunci’s lecture today?”
Song Shu naturally knew, but the practice time clashed with the lecture time, so she hadn’t gone: “I know, but are there still seats now?”
“Let’s go take a look. Maybe someone left early, and we can snag a spot.”
“Sure.”
After leaving the dance studio, Fang Xu’s mind was a mess, with a rare sense of confusion dominating.
She didn’t know what to do or where to go.
The only thing she knew clearly was that she had broken up with Song Shu and couldn’t be a clingy person, so she had to stay away from her.
At least, not appear in her line of sight.
With this thought, Fang Xu didn’t even pay attention to the road, her long legs moving quickly and hurriedly.
Passersby didn’t even have time to react and could only see a fleeting back view.
A ponytail, a backpack, and the most ordinary light gray hoodie—you could see a hundred similar figures around the campus.
Maybe she was rushing to class, or maybe she was anxious to see her advisor. No one was curious, and they quickly forgot about it after looking away.
After walking for a long time, Fang Xu finally stopped, slightly out of breath, and sweating a little in the not-so-hot weather. Her legs also felt a bit weak.
The two slices of bread she ate for lunch had long since completed their mission during the hustle, and Fang Xu covered her increasingly aching stomach, realizing the pain wasn’t limited to just one spot.
Her chest also felt a dull ache, as if it were perpetually rainy, even on a clear day.
However, an ordinary person didn’t have time for self-pity. It was now 3:30 PM, and the milk tea shop was right outside the school gate. She could rest for another ten minutes and wouldn’t be late for her part-time job.
Fang Xu gently let out a breath, ignoring the pain radiating from various parts of her body, and slowly made her way to a nearby rest area.
Jiangcheng University is the best university in Jiangcheng and even the whole country. It has ample funding and many alumni donations. It has been expanded three times, and the campus also features unique rest areas.
They have simple tea and seats, a good place whether you want to relax, take a break, or occasionally catch up on homework.
As she walked over, a couple passed by, and their conversation clearly reached her ears.
“That lecture is way too popular! Forget about sitting down; there’s not even standing room.”
“Yeah, that’s why our decision to leave early was definitely the right one. We were about to be squeezed into a meat patty.”
“It’s just a shame. We didn’t get to see what Pei Yunci really looks like! Speaking of which, is she really as formidable as the rumors say?”
“Of course! S-rank Omegas are rare, not to mention Pei Yunci is in charge of the Pei Group. She donated two whole buildings and gave our college the latest experimental equipment. Do you know how much one machine costs? Over a million!”
“So, the rumors about her being ruthless, vindictive, and hating Alphas are also true?”
“Who knows, but I think it’s plausible. You Alphas are all like that, so it’s understandable that she dislikes you.”
“Huh? I’m a good Alpha, right? You can’t just judge all Alphas…”
The couple walked further away, and their voices faded.
Fang Xu’s long eyelashes fluttered, and her thoughts drifted unconsciously to this matter.
Everyone undergoes differentiation around the age of fifteen or sixteen, acquiring their secondary gender.
The differences between secondary genders are significant. Based on existing scientific research, after secondary gender differentiation is complete, Alphas have better physical strength and superior height, while Omegas are more prominent in intelligence, logic, and thinking.
Although Betas don’t excel in these areas, they are spared the troubles of the sensitive and heat periods.
In today’s society, the population ratio of the three genders is roughly balanced.
However, in the eyes of some people, Alphas and Omegas are still more revered, especially the high ranks like S-rank and A-rank.
And Beta is synonymous with mediocrity, always carrying some prejudice.
After her secondary gender was confirmed as Beta, Fang Xu became accustomed to this prejudice and had heard Song Shu mention it countless times.
Recalling Song Shu’s words just now, the discomfort she had deliberately suppressed resurfaced.
Fang Xu pinched her palm, shaking her head, trying to forget about it.
Not paying attention for a moment, the instant she lowered her head and entered the rest area, she unexpectedly bumped into someone.
“I’m so sorry, I’m so sorry.” Before she even saw who she had bumped into, the apology was out of her mouth first.
At the same time, a subtle fragrance reached her nose, but it vanished instantly, like a hallucination.
Fang Xu didn’t pay it any mind and looked up to see the person she had bumped into.
The person was slender and tall, wearing a white shirt with a suit jacket casually draped over their arm. The top button of the collar was undone, revealing a small patch of pale skin, and a silver necklace hung over their collarbone. The word ‘beautiful’ seemed too pale to describe them.
However, their aura was noble and cold, naturally carrying a sense of detachment. Seeing them, Fang Xu knew that she and this person did not belong to the same world.
Pei Yunci, the one who was bumped, also looked at her.
Their eyes met.
