- Chapter 18.1 - "Do you want to come back to my place to rest for a while?...
As night fell, the streetlights gradually lit up.
The street behind the school was sparsely populated. A black car was waiting discreetly by the roadside.
Fang Xu approached and found only Pei Yunci in the car, still wearing the same clothes she had on during the day’s event.
Fang Xu sat in the passenger seat and spoke first, “Did the school event just wrap up?”
It was already ten o’clock at night, and she had expected the other person to have left much earlier.
“Mhm,” Pei Yunci waited for Fang Xu to fasten her seatbelt before starting the car. “I toured the school’s laboratories and signed a few supplementary agreements.”
Schools are different from typical corporations, requiring more attention to detail.
Fang Xu nodded. “That must have been tiring.”
“It’s alright.”
Although the matters concerning Jiangcheng University were complex, they involved less scheming and fewer social banquets compared to other collaborations.
Pei Yunci casually mentioned, “I saw your photo when I passed by the School of Computer Science.”
Fang Xu let out an “Ah,” feeling a little confused. “Where?”
“The side building of the school,” Pei Yunci recalled the poster she had seen. “Was it for a scholarship defense?”
Hearing this, Fang Xu also remembered and said apologetically, “That was already last semester. Maybe because no new event needed the space, the photo has been hanging there and hasn’t been taken down.”
Pei Yunci’s fingers rested on the steering wheel, and she stated honestly, “The top of your class, that’s very impressive.”
“It’s nothing.”
Fang Xu looked at the traffic ahead. After being praised, her eyes behind her glasses blinked a few times faster.
Teachers and classmates often said the same thing, and she was used to hearing it. But hearing it from the person next to her made her feel a little embarrassed.
She changed the subject, saying, “You were also the top of your class when you were at the university. You’re very impressive, too.”
Pei Yunci’s brow raised slightly. “You’re quite well-informed.”
It had been years since graduation; she was starting to forget her own university grades.
Fang Xu explained, “It’s on the forum, and you are very famous at school.”
“I know about the forum,” Pei Yunci asked. “But famous?”
The forum was built by students over a decade ago and has been maintained by everyone ever since.
However, Pei Yunci was very busy back then and rarely checked the forum.
Upon hearing the question, Fang Xu thought about the exceptionally bold and passionate confessions on the forum and suddenly regretted bringing up the topic.
She paused for a moment and replied, “Everyone really enjoys your lectures.”
The remaining words were truly inappropriate to read out loud.
“Is that so?” Pei Yunci asked with a smile.
“Very much so,” Fang Xu brought up today’s event. “The biggest event room in the school was full; it has never been like that before.”
Pei Yunci gave an ‘mhm.’ “I saw. You were there, too.”
“But at the time, you seemed to be avoiding me?”
She didn’t dwell on things internally and asked whatever she wanted to know.
Fang Xu felt a little nervous, opened her mouth, and finally said, “I didn’t, right?”
“Then, were you worried about others finding out about our relationship?”
Fang Xu hesitated for a moment before nodding. “I was just worried it might affect you.”
The official data from the Pei Group did not mention Pei Yunci’s illness, which meant it was her privacy and shouldn’t be discussed casually.
“It’s fine,” Pei Yunci parked the car in the apartment’s underground garage. “It’s best if this matter can be kept private, but if not, I’ll let you decide. I respect your opinion.”
The other person was still a student. If others saw that they were related, it would always be Fang Xu who suffered.
Even if there was no improper relationship between them, people would speculate with malicious intent.
Fang Xu followed her upstairs. “Okay.”
It was the same apartment as last time, but this time Pei Yunci didn’t need to work, so they went straight to the bedroom.
After a quick wash, Fang Xu emerged from the bathroom and saw the person sitting on the bed.
Pei Yunci had taken off her jacket, leaving a white shirt with a few buttons undone at the collar. Her slightly long, curly hair fell to her shoulders.
Hearing the sound, she looked up. “Ready?”
Fang Xu acknowledged with an ‘mhm,’ still standing in place, obedient and compliant.
For some reason, Pei Yunci particularly liked seeing her look like this.
She also stood up. “Shall we start the marking, then?”
“…Okay,” Fang Xu looked at the person in front of her, a little slow to react.
It was different from last time.
Pei Yunci lowered her head to adjust the wristband, then noticed the person was still standing.
She chuckled. “Do you want to mark while standing?”
Fang Xu immediately shook her head.
According to what she had learned, an Omega’s strength would diminish during the marking process, making their legs weak. To give the other person a better experience, one shouldn’t mark while standing.
She took two steps forward, sat on the edge of the bed, stretched out her arm, and said nervously, “Then Yunci, could you… come over?”
Pei Yunci responded with an ‘okay,’ and then sat down on her lap.
There were two layers of fabric between them, but they could still feel the heat of each other’s skin.
The air around Fang Xu was filled with the light, pleasant scent of Platycodon.
She had intended to brush Pei Yunci’s hair aside, but before she could move, she felt a slight touch on her thigh.
Her body instantly tensed up, and the area that was touched felt a bit ticklish.
“Relax a little,” Pei Yunci leaned her chin on Fang Xu’s shoulder. “Is that alright?”
The girl was truly too young; even sitting down, she could feel her nervousness.
“…Okay,” Fang Xu tried hard to relax, but the effect was minimal, and her breathing became much more erratic.
Pei Yunci laughed softly, her eyes falling on the girl’s bright red ears. “It’s fine, do it in a way that’s comfortable for you.”
Fang Xu could only hold her tighter, remove her glasses, and then lean down to press her lips against the Omega’s scent gland.
The temperature of her lips and tongue was always higher and softer than other places.
The scent of citrus mingled with the scent of Platycodon flowers, bringing a freshness and sweetness, like the tender new leaves just emerging on a branch.
The Platycodon pheromones intensified, feeling like being immersed in a sea of flowers.
Slowly, Pei Yunci’s breathing also lost its initial steadiness, and her slightly hot breath fell onto the Alpha’s neck.
Her eyes were lightly closed, her eyelashes trembling slightly. She only felt her scent gland become more comfortable and much more sensitive, able to perceive every soothing touch and action of the young Alpha.
Their heartbeats, thump-thump, interwove through their chests.
Pei Yunci’s fingers moved unconsciously, circling the Alpha’s waist, as if this could stop the gradually intensifying itch.
She wanted to speak, but just as her lips parted, the Alpha’s marking teeth pierced the skin. The S-class Alpha pheromones entered her body, stopping the itching sensation.
The sound that had been held in her throat escaped, clear yet hoarse, falling distinctly into Fang Xu’s ears.
“It doesn’t hurt.”
“It’s comfortable.”
She remembered the words from last time clearly and wouldn’t foolishly ask again. She simply embraced the person in her arms, slowly sucking the scent gland, continuously infusing her pheromones.
Like raindrops slowly falling, bringing the parched and uncomfortable Platycodon flower back to life.
When it was over, Pei Yunci’s forehead was covered in fine sweat. She leaned against Fang Xu, slowly regulating her breathing.
Seeing this, Fang Xu took some tissues from the side and quietly helped wipe away the sweat.
Right after marking, both the Alpha and Omega would experience mutual dependence. This was a biological instinct, and Fang Xu could understand it, as she also felt the same way.
From the moment her teeth broke the scent gland, a voice in her heart said: Hold her, hold her tighter, cling to her more, it’s not enough, not enough.
However, Fang Xu’s rationality remained intact. She only did what was within their agreement, controlling even physical contact, and absolutely avoiding inappropriate touching.
After a moment, she lowered her eyes to look at the person in her arms and asked in a low voice, “Yunci, how are you?”
She had followed the marking tutorial, but the other person seemed much more tired than last time.
Pei Yunci looked up, her long lashes fluttering like a butterfly’s wings, only the wings were still a little damp.
She didn’t answer, her voice still slightly hoarse. “Did you study marking again?”
Fang Xu nodded, including the part about being considerate after marking, which was also firmly lodged in her mind.
The corners of Pei Yunci’s lips lifted into a very small smile. “You studied well.”
Fang Xu blinked, unsure how to reply, and could only say, “Oh.”
Her own lips also curved upwards, though she didn’t know why her heart was beating faster than during the marking.
Around eleven o’clock at night, Pei Yunci still insisted that Fang Xu stay at the apartment.
After Fang Xu washed up, the Omega pheromones clinging to her body were also washed away; only those at her scent gland could be sensed.
Lying on the bed, she first texted her roommates to let them know she wouldn’t be returning that night, so they wouldn’t worry.
Then, following her usual habit, she checked her email before going to sleep and found one new unread message.
[Hello Fang Xu: Thank you for applying to the Pei Group’s recruitment. Congratulations on passing the written test. You are cordially invited to attend an interview. We look forward to meeting with the excellent you!]
The email also included a link to select an interview time, valid for three days.
Fang Xu looked at the link, paused for a moment, and then temporarily closed the email.
The next day.
Pei Yunci still hadn’t completely adjusted to the time difference and woke up several times sporadically during the night.
When she finally opened her eyes in the morning, it was half an hour later than her usual biological clock. She left the bedroom and saw someone standing in the kitchen, busy.
Pei Yunci walked over slowly, leaning against the side without making a sound.
The water in the pot was bubbling. Fang Xu put the noodles in, and when she turned around, she saw someone next to her.
Her heart leaped suddenly, and after realizing who it was, she quietly sighed in relief. “You’re awake.”
Pei Yunci acknowledged with an ‘mhm.’ Her slightly curled long hair was casual, and she looked somewhat languid as if she hadn’t quite woken up. “What are you making for breakfast?”
“Noodles. Is that alright?” Fang Xu asked.
She had learned from experience that they had to sort out breakfast themselves. Last time, Pei Yunci made it, so this time Fang Xu went straight to the kitchen.
Pei Yunci nodded. “It’s fine. I haven’t tasted your cooking yet.”
“The taste is just ordinary home-style food,” Fang Xu didn’t want to set the expectation too high.
Pei Yunci said, “Home-style food is also very good.”
Whether at the Pei family residence or this apartment, breakfast was primarily Western-style. Steaming hot home-style meals were rare.
She stood by the kitchen and, after watching for a moment, uncharacteristically asked, “Do you need any help?”
Fang Xu: “It’s okay, I can manage it myself.”
Pei Yunci rarely had moments like this, and her tone carried a hint of a smile. “Just standing here watching you cook?”
Fang Xu looked around. “Then, maybe wash the greens?”
Pei Yunci nodded, walked next to her, and took the green vegetables.
Her slender fingers skimmed over the clear water, elevating the value of even the ordinary greens.
Fang Xu watched the running tap and thought to herself that the other person was better suited for signing contracts at the Group than for domestic tasks like washing vegetables and cooking.
It was too much of a waste of water.
“What are you thinking about?” Pei Yunci finished putting the clean greens aside.
“The noodles are almost done; we can add the greens and an egg now,” Fang Xu naturally didn’t dare say what was on her mind.
The noodles didn’t take long to cook. After bubbling for a moment, the aroma gradually wafted out, and the simple meal was complete.
Serving it up, the two of them each took a bowl and sat down at the dining table.
Steam rose, and they could smell the inherent freshness of the greens. The warm sunlight streamed in through the floor-to-ceiling windows behind them, bringing a strong sense of everyday life to a corner of the apartment.
Fang Xu didn’t rush to eat. Seeing the person across from her take a bite, she gripped her chopsticks. “How is it?”
Pei Yunci smiled lightly at her. “It’s very good. I’m tempted to hire you as a private chef.”
Upon hearing this, Fang Xu also smiled but only took it as a polite remark. “It’s very simple.”
She hadn’t formally learned to cook and could only make simple dishes to manage meals at home.
The heat from the noodles fogged up her glasses. Fang Xu leaned back a little, and only after the fog cleared did she continue eating.
Even for a seemingly ordinary bowl of noodles, Pei Yunci ate slowly and gracefully, looking exceptionally refined.
After they finished eating, Fang Xu remembered the email from last night and spoke up, “Yunci.”
“Hmm,” Pei Yunci looked at her. “Something wrong?”
Fang Xu nodded, pursing her lips. “I applied for an internship at the Pei Group last week, and I received an interview invitation yesterday.”
Pei Yunci thought for a moment. “The first round of interviews?”
She understood the Group’s hiring process: usually resume screening and a written test, followed by three to four rounds of interviews.
If the position was important, the number of interviews would increase.
“Yes,” Fang Xu’s fingers moved slightly. “I just passed the written test.”
The written test was only the first hurdle, and the interviews tested deeper abilities, but she still felt it was better not to hide it and to say it upfront.
Pei Yunci: “Good luck. I hope you can join the Pei Group.”
Although she hadn’t seen Fang Xu’s written test, she believed in her ability.
Fang Xu was still a little dazed. “You…”
“What?” Pei Yunci raised an eyebrow slightly, her tone somewhat playful. “Do you want me to lower the difficulty for you?”
“Of course not,” Fang Xu denied.
Pei Yunci looked at the girl’s clear, moist eyes. “Then you think I might overthink it?”
Fang Xu’s fingers twitched. “Yes.”
If they didn’t know each other, applying to the Pei Group would naturally be no problem. But now that they had signed an agreement, it could look like she was intentionally trying to get closer to her.
The clock in the living room slowly ticked. The sun outside the window rose higher and higher, casting a patch of gold onto the floor.
Pei Yunci chuckled. “Don’t worry. If the best student at Jiangcheng University didn’t consider applying to the Pei Group, that’s when I would overthink it.”
“I look forward to seeing you at the company.”
Fang Xu took a moment to process, realizing this meant she didn’t mind.
The anxiety in her heart greatly lessened. “I will do well in the interview.”
After discussing this matter, Fang Xu packed her backpack, ready to leave.
As she reached the door, she remembered one more thing she hadn’t mentioned.
She turned around and met the gaze of the person on the sofa.
Had the other person been watching her the whole time?
The thought flashed through Fang Xu’s mind, but she didn’t dwell on it. She just informed her, “Yunci, I’ll be going home for the Qingming holiday. If there’s an emergency, I’ll rush back.”
The Qingming holiday was a week away. Logically, marking wouldn’t be needed, but it was better to let the other person know.
“Okay.”
Pei Yunci recalled her schedule; she also had a business trip planned, so she shouldn’t need to trouble Fang Xu.
The door closed, and she retracted her gaze.
She had to admit, among all the Alphas she had met, Fang Xu was the only one who was so obedient and likable.
In addition to the interview invitation from the Pei Group, Fang Xu consecutively received several other interview emails.
She accepted all of them, except for those with conflicting times.
In the blink of an eye, the Qingming holiday arrived.
Before Fang Xu even got into the car, she received a barrage of messages from her younger sister.
[Yiyi: Sis, our school is on break! When are you coming back!]
[Yiyi: Sis, you don’t have classes today, right? Can you come back a little early?]
[Yiyi: Sis, I saw the news that tickets are likely to sell out this holiday. Did you get a ticket?]
Fang Xu read through them one by one, a smile unconsciously playing on her lips.
[Fang Xu: You’re only a teenager, why are you so chatty?]
[Fang Xu: [Train Ticket Image]]
[Fang Xu: About to board. I’ll be home tonight.]
The other person must have been watching her phone, as she replied quickly.
[Yiyi: Sis, I’m just concerned about you, and you call me chatty!]
[Yiyi: Okay, okay, Sis, should we go out to eat tonight, with my scholarship money!]
Fang Xu checked her ticket, put down her suitcase, and sat in her seat before she had time to reply.
[Fang Xu: Sure. Didn’t you say last time you wanted barbecue? Let’s go to that one on the street.]
Kids’ minds change quickly. She had wanted barbecue before, but now she had changed her mind again.
[Yiyi: Sis, I think hot pot is good too. Do you have anything you want to eat? You decide!]
Fang Xu smiled. She didn’t need to guess what the other person was thinking.
[Fang Xu: Hot pot today, and barbecue tomorrow?]
[Yiyi: Sis, you’re so smart!]
[Yiyi: Cat wags tail.gif]
Chatting made the journey feel less boring.
