- Chapter 6 - The Cannon Fodder Top in a Wealthy Family Story (6)
Juezhou walked out of the private booth to answer the call, hearing Zhou Chenyu’s voice on the other end.
The events at the hospital earlier that day had not been an accident; they were a deliberate setup by Zhou Chenyu’s rivals. They had intended to injure Zhou Chenyu’s hand, not expecting Juezhou to suddenly pop out in the middle of it.
“I’m sorry. I’ve already contacted the hospital to have the surveillance footage deleted; it won’t have any impact on you,” Zhou Chenyu said, then asked, “Why is it so noisy over there?”
“I’m out,” Juezhou replied. If he hadn’t needed an excuse to leave the booth, he wouldn’t have answered this unknown number. “Did you change your number?”
Zhou Chenyu was silent for a moment before saying flatly, “You blacklisted my usual number.”
“I… I have so many things to do every day, how could I remember such a trivial matter?” Juezhou said self-righteously.
As he looked up, he accidentally bumped into the wall, letting out a small cry of pain and a muffled groan.
Embarrassingly, his eyes welled up with a few tears. He rubbed them away haphazardly, glad that no one else was around to see.
On the other end of the phone, Zhou Chenyu asked, “What happened?”
“Nothing,” Juezhou answered, taking small breaths. “Sss…”
He felt that Zhou Chenyu’s voice sounded a bit off.
…It seemed a bit hoarser than usual, as if he were suppressing something.
Zhou Chenyu’s voice had once trended on social media. Described like a high-quality piano, it had been rated by a trashy media outlet as both the “Voice You Most Want to Hear Gasping” and the “Coldest, Most Ascetic Voice.”
A certain wealthy heiress had once offered a fortune for him to record a wake-up alarm for his fans, but he had flatly refused.
Now, this priceless voice was right in Juezhou’s ear. After a moment of silence, he spoke in a coaxing tone: “Call out like that again.”
Juezhou: “Get lost.” He realized Zhou Chenyu was truly sick in the head.
Zhou Chenyu did not respond. Juezhou could only hear his breathing, which was heavier than usual.
Juezhou quickly hung up the phone. He felt the ear he had held against the phone getting a bit hot, attributing it entirely to Zhou Chenyu being too wicked: 【Good heavens, how is the Protagonist Top so perverted? He’s happy when I’m in pain.】
System: 【This is a good thing, Host. It means the Protagonist Top dislikes you more and more.】
【You’re right.】 Juezhou gave himself a mental thumbs-up.
The moment Juezhou hung up, the female classmate and her colleague hurried over to thank him.
“It’s nothing.” Juezhou thought for a moment and then asked her, “What time do you usually finish work?”
The female classmate replied, “Nine in the evening, sometimes I work overtime until the early morning.”
“Even though public safety is good right now, there are fewer people on the trams at night; you might run into bad people. I’ll send you the contact info for my family’s driver. If you need it, you can call him anytime.” Juezhou smiled, his eyes curving.
Twining her fingers together, the female classmate thanked him with a flushed face.
Just as he stepped out of the bar’s main entrance, Juezhou felt something was wrong.
Even though the moon was still hanging in the sky, he couldn’t stop a chill from running down his spine.
The driver’s car was still parked by the roadside. The rear window rolled down slowly, revealing a familiar face: “Zhouzhou, come here.”
Juezhou cowardlily got into the car.
The young man was dressed in a formal suit, his handsome face cold; clearly, he had been handling official business before coming here. “Messing around again?”
Juezhou shook his head frantically: “No, no, no, I was being very proper. A female classmate of mine works here and was being picked on, so she asked me to come help.”
“And—” He added with a smile in his voice, sounding a bit flirtatious, “I don’t even drink. What could I possibly play at a bar?”
Jiang Henian gave an “Mhm” and asked: “And you didn’t go see that young kid?” He was referring to Xie Wenchen.
“I didn’t.” Juezhou pressed his chin against Jiang Henian’s shoulder, leaning in to hug him. “I’m being so good.”
His skin hunger syndrome made him unable to resist rubbing against Jiang Henian’s body with all his might.
In Jiang Henian’s eyes, his actions just looked like he was becoming increasingly clingy.
He’s being quite good today, Jiang Henian thought.
Jiang Henian held up his phone for Juezhou to see. It displayed several news reports about young people messing around in bars and then dying suddenly.
Juezhou: “…”
He estimated that in the entire universe, maybe only five or six people died for that reason in a year; it was truly impressive that his “cheap” older brother could find so many articles.
Fearing his brother would scold him, Juezhou spent the rest of the day in the art studio without going out.
He was currently a senior. Having completed all his courses ahead of schedule, he didn’t need to go to school for the time being. He only needed to consider work after submitting his graduation project.
Juezhou had set the theme of his graduation piece as “Light,” but he hadn’t decided what to paint yet.
He drew several versions of drafts but was never satisfied, discarding them one after another. Eventually, even the System couldn’t bear to watch and coaxed: 【Host, by the time you leave this world, it won’t be graduation time yet. You don’t need to worry about being unable to graduate because you can’t finish the work.】
“No, I want to finish this piece before I leave.” Juezhou checked the time; it was already two in the morning.
Life isn’t easy, Zhouzhou sighs.
To prevent his family from discovering he was staying up so late, he sneakily took a shower in the dark, changed into pajamas, and rolled into bed.
The climate control system was already set to the most comfortable temperature, and the humidifier made a soft sound. Juezhou rolled around on the bed clutching his pillow and said with great confidence: 【I feel like no matter how big the difficulty is, I’m not afraid anymore!】
System: 【Charge!】
The next morning, Juezhou was woken by a nightmare, discovering his chin was all wet.
How embarrassing; luckily only the System knew.
He burrowed his head into the blanket, fished the pillow off the floor to put it back on the bed, and floated into the bathroom to wash up—a very practiced routine.
Although he desperately wanted to go back to sleep, Juezhou was a bit hungry. He decided to have breakfast first.
Since Father and Mother Gu were out, Juezhou leaned over the second-floor railing and saw that no breakfast had been set out on the table. He went to find Jiang Henian to make him some.
Jiang Henian’s bedroom door was ajar. Juezhou pushed it open and found him sitting at his desk, handling documents on his light-computer.
Even at home, there was nothing to find fault with in the young man’s attire. His buttons were done up to the very top, and a section of his wrist was visible below his sleeve—the bone was delicate, and the skin was smooth and white.
Thinking of the pleasure touching Zhou Chenyu had brought him the day before, Juezhou clung to the door, feeling a bit greedy.
Hearing the sound, Jiang Henian looked toward Juezhou. The sunlight outlined his sharp, three-dimensional profile: “What is it?”
Juezhou padded over in his slippers, sat astride Jiang Henian’s lap, and wrapped his arms around his neck to nuzzle him.
The pleasure brought by skin contact made his eyes curve slightly, and he narrowed the distance between them.
He was still wearing Ultraman-printed pajamas. During his movements, his slender, narrow waist was exposed. Drowsiness cast a thin layer of watery mist over his eyes, and his light-colored pupils held a slight sense of distance. “Brother Nian, I’m hungry.”
“Zhouzhou,” Jiang Henian said in a low voice, his finger habitually shielding the back of Juezhou’s neck.
Jiang Henian often spoke in this serious tone, so Juezhou didn’t pay it any mind, responding lazily: “Hmm?”
He rubbed against Jiang Henian’s icy fingers, his voice still containing the fuzziness of just waking up. His tone sounded a bit milky.
The pajama fabric was thin. As Juezhou shifted his waist, he felt the temperature was a bit excessively hot. He followed Jiang Henian’s strength to bury himself in the crook of his neck, hearing his slightly helpless voice: “…I’m live-streaming.”
Juezhou froze for a few seconds before reacting, suddenly snapping his head toward the light-computer in front of Jiang Henian.
He saw the speech script prepared in advance on the screen. To one side was the comment section, and most of the content occupying it was “AAAAAAAAAA.”
[Huh? There’s someone in the Diplomat’s house?]
[Wow, it’s a little beauty AAAAAA! I’m okay, ughhh!]
[I can deal with this face! Does the little beauty live with the Diplomat?]
[Answering the person above, the little beauty should be the Diplomat’s adoptive younger brother. No blood relation, not on the same household register. You understand.]
[Holy crap, how did the younger brother sit on him so skillfully!]
[AAAAAA is this something I can watch so early in the morning without paying?]
[This waist, these legs… I can.]
[Friends, I’m going in first.]
