- Chapter 16 - The Cannon Fodder Top in a Rich Family Story (16)
Even though he had slept for a long time, Juezhou was still very sleepy.
He still really wanted to be held.
He clutched the clothes he was wearing tightly, catching the scent of the cologne Zhou Chenyu commonly used. This particular fragrance originated from another galaxy and was known as the “Seducer’s Scent.” Several young men who had tried to flirt with Juezhou’s mother had used it, so Juezhou recognized it immediately. The scent was very crisp and cold, easily evoking thoughts of mountains and plains.
There was something bulging in the pocket of the clothes. Juezhou pulled it out and glanced at it, finding a pill bottle labeled with unfamiliar alien text. Having no intention of invading Zhou Chenyu’s privacy, Juezhou didn’t look up what the medication was for.
After lying comfortably in Zhou Chenyu’s home all morning, Zhou Chenyu called him near noon. “Do you want to come out and eat together today?”
Juezhou originally wanted to reply that it wasn’t necessary and he could just order takeout at home. However, unwilling to miss any opportunity to earn Oppression Points, he struggled to break free from the sofa’s restraint and climbed up to change his clothes.
Once he left the apartment building, Juezhou realized the temperature had dropped. Many people on the street were wearing quite thick clothes, while Juezhou only wore a thin white shirt. As a cold breeze blew by, he hugged his arms and shivered.
The System: [Does the Host want to go back and put on a jacket?]
Juezhou looked back at the long path and wrinkled his nose: [It’s fine. I have a strong constitution; I’m resistant to the cold.]
A very “straight man” statement.
“Zhou-ge!” A young girl, her makeup not yet removed, caught up with Zhou Chenyu.
Zhou Chenyu stopped his pace, his smile faint. “What is it?”
Yuan Wei smiled shyly. “Could I trouble you to come a bit earlier tomorrow? I’d like to go over the script with you in advance.”
“Sure.” Zhou Chenyu nodded.
Being selected to play the female supporting role in Soul Guard was a huge surprise for Yuan Wei. After all, with the Movie King Zhou Chenyu as the lead, the production had received massive investment, and the original novel was famous; the drama was destined to be a hit.
It wasn’t until she actually acted alongside Zhou Chenyu that Yuan Wei discovered the immense challenge hidden behind the opportunity. Zhou Chenyu’s acting was simply too good; in comparison, Yuan Wei felt like a primary school student performing in a clumsy play, which put a lot of pressure on her. She had no choice but to boldly ask Zhou Chenyu for guidance.
Fortunately, Zhou Chenyu had a gentle temperament and was willing to help his juniors, unlike some stars of similar status who were stuck-up.
As the two of them were taking the same path out of the film set, Yuan Wei lowered her head, secretly regretting that she hadn’t brought her assistant along. She wasn’t afraid of being photographed by paparazzi and starting a rumor; Zhou Chenyu was famous for being clean-living and had never filmed a drama with a romance line. In all his years since debut, he had almost zero scandals, and if the media ever made something up, he would clarify it immediately.
It was just that the two of them knew each other and were walking the same path without saying a word, which was truly awkward. Since Zhou Chenyu didn’t speak, Yuan Wei didn’t dare make small talk and only stole glances at him.
She suddenly remembered that someone once described Zhou Chenyu as “peach blossoms on a branch during the early spring chill, with transparent droplets of water on the petals.” This point didn’t seem quite accurate; after actual contact with him, Yuan Wei inexplicably felt that these peach blossoms were dead, and the water droplets were dead too.
Even though Zhou Chenyu was only in his twenties, one couldn’t find a single trace of vitality in him.
There were very few people outside the set, except for a youth wearing a dark mask leaning against a wall playing on his phone. Zhou Chenyu suddenly stopped, took off his own jacket, and walked toward the other person.
Hearing footsteps, the youth looked up and removed his mask. Yuan Wei had been in the industry for half a year and was even tired of looking at Zhou Chenyu’s face, yet the youth’s appearance still brought a flash of brilliance to her eyes.
He was too beautiful, and it wasn’t a “dead” beauty grown under strict rules and frameworks. It was a vivid, bright, and exquisite loveliness. His eyes seemed to hold starlight, and his voice was very pleasant:
“Why did you come so late?”
He was speaking to Zhou Chenyu in a casual tone.
Zhou Chenyu draped his jacket over him and laughed softly. “You’re wearing so little.”
Yuan Wei blinked. She felt… the peach blossoms had come to life, and the water droplets had come to life too.
Juezhou had actually only waited in the cold wind for three or four minutes, but he habitually complained about Zhou Chenyu’s slowness. Zhou Chenyu’s jacket carried body heat and felt very warm; he didn’t refuse further, tucking in his collar and sliding his arms into the sleeves.
Zhou Chenyu squeezed his hand, found his fingertips were cool, and simply clasped them in his own palm.
Yuan Wei, watching from the side, was stunned. It felt very “gay.” Juezhou tilted his head to look; because the sensation from the skin contact was comfortable, he didn’t push Zhou Chenyu away.
He saw Yuan Wei and, thinking she was Zhou Chenyu’s friend, curved his eyes to greet her: “Hello, little sister.”
Yuan Wei’s ears instantly turned red, and she nodded. After being glanced at lightly by Zhou Chenyu, she finally reacted and stammered, “Z-Zhou-ge! I remembered the Director has something to discuss with me. I’ll go first!” She hurriedly turned around and dashed back to the set.
Juezhou stood on his tiptoes and looked over Zhou Chenyu’s shoulder at the young girl’s retreating figure. “Huh, what happened?” He felt her face looked very familiar and vaguely remembered she was a recently popular star.
“The filming tasks are very heavy; she’s probably rushing back to film a scene,” Zhou Chenyu explained, lifting his chin toward the front. “The restaurant I booked is over there.”
He had booked a private room with excellent privacy. The dishes were already on the table, all in the flavors Juezhou loved. Zhou Chenyu only ate a little, as usual. Seeing Juezhou’s puzzled gaze, he explained nonchalantly, “To coordinate with the filming, I’ve been on a diet recently.”
Juezhou looked at the other’s slender wrists and silently put down his chopsticks.
Zhou Chenyu didn’t need to go to the set in the afternoon, so the two prepared to go home after lunch. His car was parked outside. Juezhou got into the back seat and found a waist-high, light-colored teddy bear lying on the seat, its tags still attached.
“It’s brand new, nobody has touched it,” Zhou Chenyu said from the driver’s seat, looking back at Juezhou.
Juezhou had a few “quirky” fastidious habits and couldn’t stand things others had touched. Hearing this, his eyes curved into crescents. With Zhou Chenyu’s permission, he hugged the giant bear and rubbed against it on the seat. The feeling of having his embrace filled with something soft was very comfortable, though it would be even better if the bear could turn into a living person with body heat.
Suddenly his phone rang. Juezhou squeezed the bear tight and answered the call. Jiang Henian’s voice came from the other side: “Zhouzhou.”
“Brother Henian.” Juezhou held up the phone. Jiang Henian seemed to have just finished official business; his tie was perfectly neat. He stared at the bear taking up most of the screen, gave a soft “Mm,” and asked, “Do you need me to come back and spend Valentine’s Day with you this year?”
Juezhou scratched his chin. “No need—”
Asking his foster brother to come back and spend Valentine’s Day with him just because he was single felt too childish; Juezhou wouldn’t do that. “I’m going to participate in the school anniversary arts performance.”
His sitting posture was improper; he had his legs crossed, and his feet even reached into the front row. His ankle was suddenly squeezed by the handsome youth in the front seat. Zhou Chenyu pulled down his sock slightly and used his fingertips to stroke the protruding ankle bone.
Juezhou straightened his back, his grip on the bear tightening. Fortunately, Jiang Henian didn’t notice. Someone knocked on the office door; he put down his phone and looked up: “Come in.”
The assistant walked to his desk and asked, “Mr. Jiang, have you finished processing the contract?” Jiang Henian found the contract from a neatly stacked pile on his desk and handed it to the assistant.
Juezhou gave a light kick, not daring to make too large a movement for fear of being scolded by Jiang Henian. He didn’t think Zhou Chenyu’s behavior was out of line; Juezhou himself often acted as a girl on the phone to tease his friends when they were talking to their parents.
Zhou Chenyu showed no intention of letting go, tracing circles on that patch of delicate skin. Juezhou was so ticklish; he wanted to pull away but couldn’t help pressing closer.
The sneaker with its neatly tied laces was removed. The rounded toes, encased in a snowy white sock, were held in a hand with distinct knuckles, being wantonly toyed with.
Jiang Henian looked back at the phone screen: “Did you do anything bad in secret while I’ve been away?”
“I didn’t,” Juezhou rubbed his cheek against the giant bear, trying to use it to alleviate the itchiness coming from his sole. “I’ve been very good. Besides, tomorrow is our college’s anniversary; I have to go help out.”
“Mm. And you haven’t gone to find that kid named Xie?” Jiang Henian asked again.
“Mmm…” Juezhou only thought for a few seconds about who “that kid named Xie” was when he felt the hand holding his ankle suddenly increase its pressure.
His ankle was pulled forward. Juezhou lifted his chin and looked ahead, but his view was blocked by the driver’s seat.
“No, I’ve been painting the whole time.” Juezhou used his strength to kick Zhou Chenyu’s thigh, silently and fiercely reminding the other not to be too presumptuous.
The sock was slid off, touching something with a high temperature and extreme softness. His tender, ticklish sole was teased even more intimately, making Juezhou curl his toes and his earlobes turn red.
“Be serious,” Jiang Henian said suddenly.
“Huh?” Juezhou was blank, a hint of moisture clinging to the base of his eyelashes. His expression didn’t show arousal; he even looked a bit dazed and slow. But his eyes were shimmering with a gorgeous light, and his beautiful face had gained a slight, shallow blush.
Jiang Henian cleared his throat, his gaze landing on Juezhou’s collar. His brow furrowed slightly: “Whose clothes are those?”
Juezhou’s attention wasn’t on him. “Borrowed, mm, borrowed.”
“Mm,” Jiang Henian said. “Unbutton the top button and let me see.”
Huh?
This strange request surprised Juezhou slightly, but he was still very obedient and went to unbutton it. His fingers were a bit limp; his fingertips climbed onto the button and he tried several times before he pulled the jacket open and went to unbutton the shirt.
When the shirt was opened, Juezhou caught a glimpse of a small red mark on his collarbone, looking just like a mark left by a forceful hickey. His skin was exceptionally tender, and any slight force could leave a mark, though they faded quickly. The mark that looked strikingly red now would disappear by evening.
If Jiang Henian hadn’t been so sharp-eyed, Juezhou likely wouldn’t have noticed it for a long time.
“Is there someone next to you?” Jiang Henian was silent for a while before asking again.
“Yes.” Juezhou was currently sitting in Zhou Chenyu’s car; there was no need to lie.
Jiang Henian was silent for a moment and removed his glasses:
“Put your clothes on.”
