- Chapter 40 - Extra Story II
The priest looked troubled as he glanced at the two women in front of him. After Luo Nianshu enthusiastically finished explaining the entire wedding plan, she leaned on the table with both hands and asked, “How’s this plan?”
This was Luo Nianshu’s first time planning a wedding. As she and Qiao Jinyan had agreed long ago, the very first wedding she ever planned had to be their own ceremony.
“I think it’s a good plan, but…” The priest looked as if he were about to cry. “Why do you two insist on choosing the same church and the same priest?”
He truly, truly never wanted to see these two women and that man named Wang Xu at a wedding again!
Luo Nianshu looked awkwardly at Qiao Jinyan.
Honestly, she didn’t really want to choose this place either. After all, this church and this priest had already witnessed too many ups and downs in their lives. But Qiao Jinyan had said, Where you fall is where you must rise again. Where you got divorced is where you should get married. Since Luo Nianshu insisted on this same location, all she could do was go along with her wife’s antics.
After all, a wedding is the most unforgettable moment in a woman’s life even though they had already been the main characters in several memorable weddings.
“Are you two planning on crashing this wedding again?” The priest’s expression was cautious, like walking on thin ice.
“Of course not.” Qiao Jinyan raised a finger and shook it with a calm expression.
“Will anyone come to cause trouble?”
“Absolutely not.”
“Will there be a criminal arrest at the ceremony?”
“Don’t worry. It’ll be a peaceful wedding.”
Luo Nianshu tapped her fingers on the wooden table and gave her guarantee.
The priest sighed: Even so, I really don’t want to do this again…!
“I’ll donate the entire extra sponsorship fee for this wedding to the church,” Qiao Jinyan added slowly.
The priest’s eyes lit up. He shook hands with them one by one. “Wish you a smooth wedding.”
The words “Wish you a smooth wedding” were carefully chosen by the priest after much thought. Usually, he would say “Wish you a happy marriage.”
On the wedding day, the weather was uncooperative. Rain poured down, and the wind shook the trees, creating an atmosphere as if they were transcending some heavenly tribulation.
Luo Nianshu, dressed in a pure white satin wedding gown, walked into the dressing room shivering, hugging her arms tightly. Compared to her, Qiao Jinyan was much more resilient to the cold. After all, she had once walked the red carpet in a thin dress during winter she had long trained herself to resist the cold.
Qiao Jinyan gently placed a wool blanket over her shoulders, careful not to mess up her half-down bridal hairstyle.
Luo Nianshu wrapped her arms around Qiao Jinyan’s waist, absorbing the warmth from her body.
“Careful not to get lipstick on the dress,” the makeup artist reminded, turning on the air conditioner. Warm air slowly flowed into the room.
“Want to move closer to the heater?” Qiao Jinyan suggested.
Luo Nianshu nodded, but she refused to let go of her grip on Qiao Jinyan. The two of them waddled over to the heater like two hugging penguins, swaying side to side.
The warm air made Luo Nianshu shiver once again, but this time her teeth finally stopped chattering.
“Give me a kiss,” Luo Nianshu said coquettishly.
Whenever she acted like that, Qiao Jinyan would soften immediately. She rubbed noses with her first, then gently pressed her warm lips onto Luo Nianshu’s. Their two differently shaded lipsticks blended together.
Single-and-alone Molly happened to walk in right at that moment.
She raised her fist to her mouth and coughed lightly. The two of them quickly separated, turning away with dreamy expressions. Their overlapping lipstick marks were very obvious.
“Tell the makeup artist to touch it up. The media and guests are all ready outside you two are up next.”
“Got it.”
Luo Nianshu helped arrange Qiao Jinyan’s wedding dress. Qiao Jinyan’s gown was fluffy and soft, with a large skirt completely different from Luo Nianshu’s sleek and fitted dress. Hers was mainly made of tulle, outlining delicate and graceful curves.
After touching up their lipstick, the two of them linked arms and walked through the softly lit hallway.
The hallway wasn’t long, but they walked slowly, supporting each other step by step, as if they intended to live their whole lives leaning on one another just like that.
“This feels different,” Qiao Jinyan said with a gentle smile.
“Different how?” Luo Nianshu asked, puzzled.
“This feels different from any other wedding I’ve ever been in.” Qiao Jinyan tilted her head playfully toward her. “This feels like it’s really my wedding.”
A tender expression appeared in Luo Nianshu’s eyes as she looked toward the end of the hallway, where a soft light shone not blinding, but warm.
“The brides are coming out!”
As soon as they appeared in front of everyone, the crowd immediately stood and burst into applause.
Everyone present had witnessed the storms they had weathered. People understood their hardships, and they respected their unwavering bond.
Tang Fu, Qing Jiuyan, Jiang Chengzhi, Molly, Xiao Li… each and every one of them sent blessings through kind and supportive gazes.
The applause gradually faded a few minutes later.
The priest cleared his throat and stepped onto the altar. Behind him, the rose-patterned stained glass windows refracted the rain into dazzling colors of light.
“Ms. Luo Nianshu, do you take Ms. Qiao Jinyan to be your lawful wife? Will you stay by her side through health and illness, wealth and poverty, youth and old age, never abandoning her, remaining faithful and true? Do you?”
“I do.”
Her voice was steady and gentle.
“Ms. Qiao Jinyan, do you take Ms. Luo Nianshu to be your lawful wife? Will you be with her through good times and bad, joy and sorrow, poverty and wealth, and stand by her for the rest of your life? Do you?”
“I do.”
Her voice was firm and tender.
The priest let out a breath of relief. He glanced subtly at the church doors to ensure they were tightly shut before turning back to continue. “Will the brides please exchange rings!”
Qiao Jinyan took Luo Nianshu’s hand and slid a large diamond ring about the size of a pigeon egg onto her gloved finger. That’s right, she insisted on giving Luo Nianshu the best, the most expensive.
“It’s a bit heavy,” Luo Nianshu blinked as she put a ring on Qiao Jinyan in return.
“But I like it.”
A double meaning.
Qiao Jinyan smiled softly, pulled Luo Nianshu into her arms, and kissed her tenderly.
Surrounded by cheers and applause, Qiao Jinyan’s voice still rang out clearly: “Luo Nianshu, listen carefully. I’m only saying this once.”
“Hmm?” Luo Nianshu was a little dazed from the kiss.
“I love you.”
A smile spread across Luo Nianshu’s lips. She lifted her head and deepened the kiss passionately.
“I love you too.”
This was a promise for life.
