- Chapter 16 - Wearing the Same Outfit
Luo Nianshu’s body swayed, her ears slightly ringing, her mind a milky white blank.
“You’re not drunk?” Luo Nianshu confirmed again.
“No.”
“You weren’t drugged.”
“No.”
“You…”
“Luo Nianshu.” Qiao Jinyan interrupted her again, saying with a certain tone, “I’m completely sober right now, and I know what I’m saying.”
Luo Nianshu’s heart beat even faster, the pounding sound frighteningly loud. She gripped the table to prevent herself from falling.
“So, are you willing?” Qiao Jinyan asked, a trace of uncertainty in her voice.
Luo Nianshu composed herself and revealed a smile: “Of course, I am.”
Like melting ice, Qiao Jinyan’s lips involuntarily curved into an arc.
“Kiss me.” She commanded.
Luo Nianshu’s lips trembled. She let go of the tablecloth and leaned forward softly: “Yes, my Goddess-sama.”
Lips and tongues intertwined. Like fire in full blaze.
Like the sweetest cream tip of a blueberry cake, and like the moment a summer dove’s wings glide across the sky.
Luo Nianshu’s legs went weak. Her hand pressed against the table, ready to collapse. Qiao Jinyan quickly grasped her waist, pressing down on her to deepen the kiss.
Clinging.
Moving clouds.
“What are you two doing?”
With a soft “clatter,” the dishes on the table were knocked over. Molly appeared before the two of them, her expression ashen, holding a wine glass.
Two minutes after Qiao Jinyan and Luo Nianshu confirmed their relationship, they were successfully caught by their manager.
The evening breeze was cool, mixed with the aroma of the sweet food on the table. But the air was exceptionally quiet and awkward.
“Don’t tell me you two are practicing lines for a script.” Molly’s expression was strange.
Luo Nianshu: Coincidentally, that’s exactly what she was about to say.
“We are dating, Molly.” Qiao Jinyan, however, was unusually candid.
Hearing this, Molly’s face grew even paler. She quickly pulled out her phone from her pocket, dialing a number while saying, “I’m going to tell the company.”
“Molly!” Qiao Jinyan instantly became serious, stepping forward and quickly snatching her phone away: “Keep it a secret for me. Just this once.”
“You shouldn’t be dating right now, especially not Luo Nianshu. Your fundamental public persona is already crumbling. If you’re caught by paparazzi dating your third party, you will be completely ruined.” Molly waved her arms. Luo Nianshu had never seen her this agitated.
“I know.” Qiao Jinyan lowered her head: “I’ve thought about it for a long time.”
“How long is a long time?”
“One day.”
Molly was so angry she wanted to vomit all the red wine she had just drunk.
Molly grabbed Qiao Jinyan’s shoulders and shook her gently, pleading. “Yanyan, calm down. For the sake of our career, no, even for your own sake, okay?”
Qiao Jinyan looked up, her eyes flickering: “Then who will consider Luo Nianshu’s feelings?”
This reply gave Molly a headache, and she rubbed her temples. She turned to Luo Nianshu: “Little assistant, you care about her, don’t you? Then please, let go for now, can you?”
Let go… Luo Nianshu looked at Qiao Jinyan, who was also looking back at her. The determination in her eyes was the answer to everything.
So Luo Nianshu shook her head: “I’m sorry, Molly. I want to persist.”
“Then I’ll tell the company right now.”
Molly angrily reached for the phone in Qiao Jinyan’s hand. Qiao Jinyan flashed her hand and hid the phone behind her back: “Molly, we’ve been old friends for years. I don’t think you want to see me in pain, do you?”
Molly gritted her teeth: “It’s precisely because we’re old friends that I have to do this. Give me the phone.”
“No.” Luo Nianshu stepped in front of Qiao Jinyan.
The three of them started playing a game of ‘cat and mouse,’ with one trying to catch the other.
Luo Nianshu spread her arms, welcoming Molly’s attack, while Qiao Jinyan dodged and weaved behind her.
“Yan, Yan!”
After a few rounds, Molly was panting heavily with exhaustion. Since Luo Nianshu arrived, her exercise level had drastically increased be it marriage farce or fighting, plus various long-distance running. If she had known this would be the result, she would never have helped Qiao Jinyan draft that assistant agreement.
Qiao Jinyan, who was behind Luo Nianshu, was also gasping for breath, grabbing Luo Nianshu’s crumpled clothes and waving her hand. She truly didn’t have the strength to say another word. Since Luo Nianshu arrived, her exercise level had rapidly increased be it knife-throwing or sprinting, and it also included night-time exercise. If she had known this would be the result, she should have done less double-person exercise last night.
“Fine, we’ll break up.” Qiao Jinyan suddenly compromised.
Luo Nianshu: “???”
Luo Nianshu immediately turned around, facing Qiao Jinyan, the big liar, with anger: “We’ve only been dating for less than five minutes? How could you…”
Qiao Jinyan quickly blinked and mouthed “fake.” Luo Nianshu realized what she meant and immediately turned back to Molly, comprehending: “Alright, we’ll break up, as you say.”
“Really?” Molly supported her waist, breathing, a look of doubt on her face.
“Really.” Luo and Qiao both nodded in unison.
Molly: “…” This is too synchronized.
Luo Nianshu: “For the sake of Goddess-sama’s reputation.”
Qiao Jinyan: “For the sake of the company’s reputation.”
Consistent tone, quick reaction, confirmed it’s definitely acting.
Molly straightened up, feeling like she was being treated as an idiot. She held her head and groaned in greater pain.
No, maybe the people in love are the idiots.
“Give me the phone.” Molly stretched out her hand toward Qiao Jinyan.
Qiao Jinyan’s expression tightened, and she unconsciously took a step back: “We’ve already broken up, what more do you want?”
“Nothing much.” Molly scoffed, took the phone under their gaze, pressed the lock screen, and put it in her pocket.
Is that it? Luo Nianshu’s eyes darted, glancing at Qiao Jinyan, but saw that the latter was still waiting for Molly’s next move.
Molly was well aware that almost no one could stop Qiao Jinyan from doing what she intended. Getting the two of them to break up wouldn’t happen in a day or two. As for actually reporting them to the management company… In truth, she was also reluctant to see Qiao Jinyan scolded.
It would be better for her to slowly dismantle their relationship herself. Since they had only been dating for a few minutes, their feelings weren’t solid, so breaking them up should be quick.
“I don’t want to see you two interacting outside of work hours anymore.” Molly presented the first condition.
Qiao Jinyan nodded. Reading a script in her room counts as work, so she can work twenty-four hours a day, non-stop.
“Second, Luo Nianshu must live separately from you. Tonight, Luo Nianshu will stay in my room.” Molly raised two fingers on her right hand, proposing the second condition.
“No way.” Qiao Jinyan and Luo Nianshu both changed expressions and refused in unison.
Luo Nianshu: “Molly, you already know I like women. Aren’t you afraid of what I might do to you tonight?”
Qiao Jinyan narrowed her eyes, reached out and pinched Luo Nianshu’s waist: “Do you dare to do anything to other women?”
Luo Nianshu shrank her head and immediately said, “No, no, I wouldn’t dare.”
Molly:Why does the air smell so sour?
Luo Nianshu actually had a point. Given the situation, it wasn’t suitable for Luo Nianshu to stay with anyone of any gender, but unfortunately, all the hotel rooms were full.
After some thought, Molly murmured, “You can live together, but you can’t do anything bad.”
“What kind of bad things could we do?” Luo Nianshu feigned innocence, looking at Molly.
Molly and Qiao Jinyan’s faces both flushed. A cool breeze swept by, and both fell silent, with only the thickest-skinned one still smiling carefree.
“Are there any other conditions?” Qiao Jinyan asked.
Molly thought seriously: “Not for now.”
“You miss the boat if you don’t take it now. So you can only make these two suggestions.” Qiao Jinyan said bluntly.
Molly nodded. From today onwards, she would be responsible for supervising and breaking up Luo Nianshu and Qiao Jinyan.
This plan was clearly recorded in Molly’s internal work list.
After the dinner party, Qiao Jinyan and Luo Nianshu returned to the hotel together.
To avoid suspicion, the two maintained a distance, walking one after the other.
As they neared the room door, Luo Nianshu saw no one around and finally couldn’t resist running up to hug Qiao Jinyan’s waist, giggling and whispering to her.
Turning the corner, they saw a person standing in the shadows. Qiao Jinyan froze, quickly pushing Luo Nianshu away.
“What are you…” Luo Nianshu muttered, feeling wronged, but then glimpsed the person in front of the door. She immediately straightened up and cleared her throat, changing her tone: “Go do something work-related, read your script more.”
Qiao Jinyan gave her an amused look but didn’t reply.
Tang Fu emerged from the shadows. Her wine-red fishtail dress was flickering between light and dark, deep and understated.
“Senior, I have something I want to talk to you about.” Her delicate face was like porcelain, melancholic yet gentle, giving people a desire to protect her.
“Just say whatever you need to say here.” Qiao Jinyan’s tone was indifferent.
Tang Fu lowered her eyes: “It’s not convenient.”
Qiao Jinyan had been in the entertainment industry for many years, witnessed all its aspects, and knew that many things in the industry couldn’t be discussed openly.
She gently waved her hand, signaling Luo Nianshu to return to the room first.
Luo Nianshu looked at Tang Fu, not missing the suspicious redness on her face, and felt unhappy. So, she deliberately leaned into Qiao Jinyan’s ear, whispering loudly enough for all three to hear: “I’ll wait for you in bed tonight. Don’t come back too late, okay?”
Qiao Jinyan: “…”
Tang Fu: “…”
“Go on, tell me what you’re so eager to talk about, sister.” Qiao Jinyan smiled warmly, as if the incident of wearing the same outfit had never happened.
She and Tang Fu opened a private tea room, sitting opposite each other on two sofas. A wide coffee table was placed between them. Tea was steaming. Qiao Jinyan’s cup was untouched, but Tang Fu tightly held hers, using the tea’s warmth to warm her cold fingers.
“I still want to explain the incident of us wearing the same outfit today,” Tang Fu slowly began.
Qiao Jinyan’s expression didn’t change, still gentle and sunny, but her tone carried a hint of wanting to see her off: “Sister has already apologized for this matter. I said, there’s no need to come find me again.”
“I had someone inquire, and I learned that the designer originally created the pearl feather dress for you. However, I don’t know how my management company obtained the design sketches. Before the film festival promotion, I was already informed to wear this dress.”
Tang Fu took a sip of tea, then gently placed the teacup on the coffee table, continuing: “Actually, before this, Director Zhang Weiyin called my manager, requiring us to arrive at the promotional hall before 9:30. If it wasn’t for a slight problem with my driver’s tire on the way, I should have arrived at the promotional hall earlier than you, Senior.”
The faint smile on Qiao Jinyan’s face faded: “What do you mean by that? Is Sister regretting not arriving at the promotional hall earlier than me?”
In the case of wearing the same outfit, the person who arrives earlier naturally has the advantage.
“No, I don’t mean that. You’ve misunderstood, Senior.”
Tang Fu was anxious to explain, but Qiao Jinyan’s phone suddenly chimed.
Qiao Jinyan originally intended to turn off her phone, but upon seeing it was a WeChat message from Luo Nianshu, she raised a hand towards Tang Fu, indicating that she had a slight matter to attend to.
