- Chapter 14 - What Is Our Relationship
“How could you peek at my phone!”
Luo Nianshu blushed deeply and lunged forward to grab her phone. Qiao Jinyan quickly used one hand to block her face, while the other stretched out to hold the phone farther away.
The blanket on the bed was tangled into a mess, intertwined between the two of them.
Qiao Jinyan’s eyes held a teasing smile, looking at the flustered Luo Nianshu struggling to get her phone but failing.
“I didn’t want to look,” she said, “Your phone alarm kept ringing this morning and I was afraid of waking you up, so I went to turn it off. But unexpectedly,” she paused, “the moment I unlocked your phone screen, your Weibo page was open.”
A sly smile mixed in Qiao Jinyan’s gaze, her expression satisfied as if she had just tasted a delicacy.
She opened Luo Nianshu’s Weibo and browsed through her comment history. Then, pinching her nose and imitating Luo Nianshu’s voice in a hoarse tone, she read each comment one by one:
“Goddess, look at me! I’m female! Goddess, don’t you really sleep with your fans? Wuwuwu…”
“My goddess is already very popular, do you think she wants to trend? It’s just because you guys keep clicking in. Also, to add, goddess, have you really not considered sleeping with your fans?”
Even with Luo Nianshu’s thick skin, she couldn’t withstand having her little secret publicly read out like this. She immediately covered her ears with both hands, curled up and half kneeling on the bed, burying her head deeply in the quilt, ashamed to death and shouted, “Stop reading, stop reading!”
Her voice muffled in the bedding, lowered by several decibels, but anyone could easily guess the expression on her face.
For the first time, Qiao Jinyan felt she had won the battle in the “thick-skinned” department.
She slithered into the quilt like a snake, turned Luo Nianshu over, and kissed her while admiring her shy expression.
Luo Nianshu was already too embarrassed to even breathe properly, now being looked at by Qiao Jinyan as if she were a curious new treasure, her heart more and more shy, her hands twisting the bedsheets, not knowing what to do.
“So you’ve actually been harboring secret intentions towards me, huh?” Qiao Jinyan rubbed her body against hers, whispering sweetly in her ear.
Luo Nianshu dared not reply, only staring at the pure white ceiling with wide eyes.
The brave and valiant warrior spirit she showed last night was gone without a trace, now only stiffly lying still like a captured prisoner, letting Qiao Jinyan dominate her.
“So, last night, was your little fan’s wish fulfilled?”
Qiao Jinyan pressed her forehead against Luo Nianshu’s, her eyes piercing into Luo Nianshu’s affectionate peach blossom eyes like autumn waters cut by a blade.
Luo Nianshu was captivated.
She instinctively wanted to rush at her, but was gently stopped by Qiao Jinyan’s hand, who playfully pushed her away, “You haven’t answered my question yet.”
Qiao Jinyan was seductive from head to toe.
“Satisfied…” Luo Nianshu’s voice was faintly hoarse.
Qiao Jinyan snorted, “Who would’ve thought my ‘third party’ would be my die hard fan.”
Luo Nianshu pursed her lips.
Since all secrets were exposed so thoroughly and clearly, she might as well be more honest and shameless.
Luo Nianshu closed her eyes briefly, then opened them with a determined look. Shaking off her pride, she smiled brightly and held Qiao Jinyan’s shoulder, straightening herself, “Yes, I’m your fan, but so what? Being a fan isn’t illegal.”
Qiao Jinyan’s eyelashes fluttered once, then she pulled the blanket over and sat up without paying attention to the teasing tone in Luo Nianshu’s words, focusing instead on that sentence: “Yes, I’m your fan.”
“When did you start being a fan of mine?” she asked.
“A while ago, purely as your admirer, still in the exploring and learning stage.”
“So, not long then.” Qiao Jinyan looked down at her own beautiful nails with some regret, stretched her stiff neck from holding one position too long, and sighed, “Not long but already this obsessed. Seems like my charm really is powerful.”
Luo Nianshu smiled.
Qiao Jinyan’s charm, to Luo Nianshu, was perhaps deadly, even confusing.
It was a year ago when Luo Nianshu first saw Qiao Jinyan’s poster outside a cinema.
The poster featured Qiao Jinyan playing a villainous undercover agent. She wore a black qipao with gold and white silk threads wrapping the edges, the slit opening high to reveal her long, fair legs. Her wavy long hair was tied into a bun at the back, held by a butterfly-shaped glass clip, enhancing her solemn and melancholic expression.
In the picture, Qiao Jinyan’s shoulders were tense, the beautiful square shoulders slightly puffing the half sleeves of the qipao. Beside her face was a raised gun.
The gun didn’t smoke or fire, but it shot straight into Luo Nianshu’s heart.
In that moment, Luo Nianshu’s heart twitched sharply.
In that instant, the world was overturned, mountains and seas flattened. Luo Nianshu’s previous decades of life stretched into a thin thread, getting thinner and further away, until it became nothing but insignificant grains of sand, disappearing entirely.
She didn’t just think Qiao Jinyan on the poster was beautiful.
To her, Qiao Jinyan held a deeper attraction, like a beast devouring her body and soul.
It was a feeling she had never experienced before, never given by any man or woman.
Luo Nianshu had never been a fan, yet she bought Qiao Jinyan’s DVDs for the first time, followed her Weibo, and began learning about her life bit by bit.
“Thirty million assistant.” Qiao Jinyan interrupted Luo Nianshu’s memories.
Her eyes were like silk, twining Luo Nianshu’s hair around her finger, tightening then loosening, tightening then loosening again.
“Now that everything is out in the open, little fan meeting your dream girl, anything to say?”
“Yes.” Luo Nianshu answered honestly.
“Hmm.” Qiao Jinyan’s voice rose in a playful nasal tone, waiting for her to continue.
Qiao Jinyan half reclined on the soft bed, bathed in morning sunlight that turned her into warm golden hues.
She looked at Luo Nianshu gently.
Usually, people would praise their idols for being beautiful, outstanding, and diligent.
Thinking carefully, in all the time she had known Luo Nianshu, she had never heard Luo Nianshu praise her directly. It was something no one else had done.
She wanted to hear it, wanted to hear Luo Nianshu praise her in her own words.
Luo Nianshu touched her nose and smiled shyly, “The netizens were right, your acting isn’t very good.”
Qiao Jinyan: “…?”
Qiao Jinyan threw a pillow at Luo Nianshu, “Die!”
Luo Nianshu skillfully caught the pillow and jumped off the bed, continuing, “And what I like is the gentle and sweet Qiao Jinyan. Ever since you stormed in and tied me up, I stopped being your fan.”
“Then why do you keep leaving comments for me every day!” Qiao Jinyan threw another pillow in anger.
“Can’t help it, it’s a habit.” Luo Nianshu dodged and teased back with a grin.
“Get lost, don’t let me see you again.”
Qiao Jinyan pushed the quilt toward Luo Nianshu, turned her back, and moved to the other side of the bed, coldly saying, “I’ll find another obedient assistant soon.”
Qiao Jinyan was always willful and decisive; once she said it, she meant it.
Luo Nianshu’s face changed, hurriedly dropping the pillow and running to hug her waist, pressing her face to Qiao Jinyan’s back and acting coquettish, “No, we signed a contract.”
“But the contract’s end date is up to me.” Qiao Jinyan raised an eyebrow. After all, the final winner was still her; she held all of Luo Nianshu’s little weaknesses in her hand.
“I don’t believe you’d let me go.”
“Then try me.” Her voice was firm and unquestionable.
Luo Nianshu felt a little discouraged, swallowed hard, and said, “You already got physically close with that good young lady yesterday. You owe me responsibility.”
A faint smile appeared between Qiao Jinyan’s brows. She turned, pinned Luo Nianshu on the bed, and trapped her in her arms.
“Thirty million, you really have no backbone, so afraid I’ll find another assistant?”
“No backbone, fine.” Luo Nianshu hugged Qiao Jinyan’s slim waist stubbornly, repeating, “You have to be responsible. Promise me, I’m your only assistant.”
Qiao Jinyan rubbed her nose against Luo Nianshu’s, “Okay, I promise.”
Hearing this, Luo Nianshu’s tense body finally relaxed.
“So, what exactly are we now?” Luo asked.
What relationship?
Qiao Jinyan was caught off guard by the sudden question.
Is Luo Nianshu asking for a title?
Qiao Jinyan’s eyes flickered, and she instinctively tried to avoid the question.
But Luo Nianshu didn’t relent, firmly asking again, “What relationship?”
Qiao Jinyan fell silent, no longer looking at Luo Nianshu. She withdrew her hands from Luo Nianshu’s body and sat up. After a long moment, she answered in a deliberately casual tone, “Friends with benefits.”
Friends with benefits, huh…
Luo Nianshu pursed her lips.
She didn’t want to ruin the morning atmosphere, so she smiled lightly as well. “I think so too. Pretty good.”
A trace of awkwardness filled the space between them.
Maybe the atmosphere was too cold and distant, maybe out of pity, Qiao Jinyan couldn’t help adding, “You know… we’re adults.”
The room fell silent for two or three seconds.
“Of course.” Luo Nianshu forced a smile and exaggeratedly patted Qiao Jinyan’s shoulder, “What I just said about responsibility was a joke. Adults don’t care about those things.”
Qiao Jinyan said nothing, her gaze lingering deeply on Luo Nianshu, as if wanting to see right through her.
As if afraid Qiao Jinyan wouldn’t believe her, Luo Nianshu added on her own, “People have biological needs that must be met.”
She looked up at Qiao Jinyan, who appeared even colder than before.
Luo Nianshu nervously licked her lips and bravely continued, “When the need arises, we have to find someone to satisfy it.”
Luo Nianshu forced a couple of awkward laughs, trying to ease the mood.
But the temperature in the room seemed to drop further.
“It just so happened last night it was the two of us…”
“Enough.” Qiao Jinyan suddenly cut her off coldly, her thin lips forming the words, “We’re late, we should go.”
Luo Nianshu was stunned, watching Qiao Jinyan pack her things with a gloomy expression.
She didn’t understand she had been speaking exactly as Qiao Jinyan wanted, so why was Qiao Jinyan unhappy?
