Chapter 49: Taking Promotional Photos.
The air began to grow hot. Wen Xi’s nostrils were filled with Shen Yu’s scent. She was restrained beneath Shen Yu, unable to escape, and yet unwilling to escape. However, Wen Xi was exhausted and gasping for air after just one kiss.
“This won’t do,” Shen Yu chuckled, their foreheads touching. “Want to practice more with me next time? I wonder if we can train your lung capacity.”
Wen Xi was annoyed. She grabbed the blanket and pulled it over her head.
Time passed quickly. Over the weekend, Wen Xi managed to talk to the landlord and bought the apartment she currently lived in. After years of floating, she finally stopped, taking root in this city.
Wen Xi was scheduled to leave on Sunday night, so they spent Saturday out, and Wen Xi took extra care to dress up Shen Yu, fearing that passersby might recognize something.
“It’s fine,” Shen Yu squeezed Wen Xi’s fingers. “Just two girls shopping and hanging out. Don’t worry about it.” Wen Xi knew this. Even if Shen Yu were photographed, everyone would just assume she was out with a friend. But Wen Xi suddenly deflated, letting go of the hand that was adjusting Shen Yu’s hat. “Then you do it yourself.”
“Don’t be like that,” Shen Yu took Wen Xi’s hand. “How about I dress you up too?”
Wen Xi didn’t pull her hand away from Shen Yu. “Don’t bother, Big Star Shen.”
Shen Yu flicked Wen Xi’s nose. “Don’t be sarcastic. Sit down. I’ll do your makeup.”
In the end, Wen Xi obediently sat down. She usually kept her makeup very simple, just enough to make her complexion look better. Shen Yu’s technique was excellent, and she finished Wen Xi’s full makeup in no time.
Shen Yu tilted Wen Xi’s chin up, admiring her for a moment. “Baby, you’re so beautiful.”
Wen Xi’s red lips parted slightly. “What, I’m not beautiful without makeup?”
“How could that be?” Shen Yu chuckled. “Baby is beautiful no matter what, but especially beautiful under my hands.”
Wen Xi understood. “That’s praising your own skill.”
Shen Yu didn’t deny it, simply leaning down to kiss Wen Xi lightly. After kissing for a moment, Wen Xi pushed her away, breathing softly. “There’s lipstick all over.”
“I was careful, the lipstick hasn’t smudged,” Shen Yu touched Wen Xi’s waist. “Good thing I haven’t applied mine yet. That step is saved.”
Wen Xi looked up, her gaze falling directly on Shen Yu’s lips, which now carried a pink stain.
Before leaving, Shen Yu chose a portable camera from Wen Xi’s small storage area. “Teacher Twilight, help me take a promotional photo.”
Wen Xi replied, “It’s my pleasure to serve Teacher Shen Yu.” There was no need to say it out loud, they were just being intimate moments ago, and now they were calling each other “Teacher” again.
Wen Xi intended to take the camera and put it in her crossbody bag, but Shen Yu was quicker, putting it into her own bag first. The camera wasn’t heavy, so Wen Xi let it go.
Bay City’s commercial development was excellent, with several landmark buildings and many themed shopping malls where people loved to visit. They hadn’t decided where to go before leaving because any place was fine. Wandering without a destination was also great, as long as they were together.
“Come on,” once downstairs, Shen Yu typed a few locations into her notepad and turned her phone screen toward Wen Xi. “Choose one.” Wen Xi was familiar with this routine; they used to love playing this game. It was like a blind box draw, where one person randomly tapped the screen, and wherever the finger landed, that’s where they would go. Wen Xi extended her hand, her fingertip tapping the screen randomly.
“The seaside,” Shen Yu turned the phone around to show Wen Xi. “I’ve never been to the seaside in Bay City. I’ll rely on Baby to show me around.”
Wen Xi couldn’t help but smile, nodding gently: “Okay.” She felt very lucky. Since she brought the camera, she could now recreate those faded old photos from the safe. Besides the sunset picture, she had many other old photos in her safe, but there was no rush. They had plenty of time, and Wen Xi could recreate them slowly. It was great now, and the future would be great too.
Wen Xi hailed a taxi to a very famous beach. The car drove by the sea early on, and gradually, many gigantic ships appeared outside the window. Shen Yu held Wen Xi’s hand and asked, “Master, are we close?”
The driver replied, “One kilometer more. Soon.”
Shen Yu: “Then please drop us off nearby. Thank you.”
The driver said it was no problem. Only after they got out of the car did Wen Xi ask, “What’s wrong? Why stop here?”
“Let’s walk a bit; consider it exercise.” Shen Yu held Wen Xi’s hand tightly. “There weren’t these ships in Sui City before, but now there are.”
It was cloudy today. The weather was neither hot nor stuffy, and the sea breeze was pleasant.
“Is that so? I haven’t been back for a long time,” Wen Xi tilted her head, looking into Shen Yu’s eyes. “Should we find some time to go back together next time? Take you to see Mom.”
Shen Yu: “Okay.”
Bay City’s maritime transport had been developing for a long time, and the ships inevitably showed signs of age. Before they walked much further, Wen Xi shook Shen Yu’s hand. “Don’t you need to do a promotional post? Since there are few people here, should I take a picture for you?”
“Sure,” Shen Yu opened her shoulder bag with one hand and handed the camera over. “Are you going for a Hong Kong style?”
Wen Xi looked at the ship behind Shen Yu. “How is that Hong Kong style? That’s a stereotype.”
“Okay,” Shen Yu smiled. “Then what kind of pose should I do, Photography Teacher?”
Wen Xi thought for a moment. “Look at me while you take off your mask, maybe turn your body slightly to expose the ship behind you, but keep your gaze on my lens.”
Shen Yu followed her instincts, and Wen Xi pressed the shutter as Shen Yu was taking off her mask. Wen Xi gave a thumbs-up. Shen Yu put her mask back on. Wen Xi walked up to Shen Yu, offering the camera. “Want to see?”
Shen Yu didn’t take it, but enlarged the picture on the camera screen while Wen Xi held it. “You’re so beautiful, Baby.”
Wen Xi snickered, a rare moment of self-satisfaction. “I know.”
The wind kept blowing in from the sea. They were close, and strands of their hair were tangled together. They walked all the way to the beach. The beach was crowded, so they found a quiet rocking chair to sit on. Shen Yu was holding a coconut. Wen Xi felt that no one around was paying attention to them, so she took the opportunity to take a few pictures of Shen Yu on the beach. Since the promotional photo shouldn’t have a mask, Wen Xi urged Shen Yu to put her mask back on as soon as the pictures were taken. Shen Yu was very obedient to Wen Xi, doing whatever she was told. So, she didn’t think anything strange of being led to a coconut tree for a back shot.
However, when Wen Xi was importing the photos at home, she privately kept that back shot.
Shen Yu teased, “Are you going to keep that private?”
Wen Xi stated righteously, “Yes, not public. I’ll look at it alone.”
So, on Saturday afternoon, Shen Yu, who hadn’t posted on Weibo for half a month, finally posted a promotional update.
Shen Yu: “Went to the seaside.”
Nine attached images, with a beautifully colored sea taking the center stage.
“Where is this? It’s too beautiful! I want to visit too!”
“The quality this time is great!! Goddess, remember to treat your photography teacher well!”
“This wasn’t posted by the studio’s IP, so it must be Sis’s! Secretaries, quickly check which city and province Sis went to!”
“Easy. Zoom in on Pic 1. There are some alphanumeric codes on the ship, but I don’t understand them. Can someone knowledgeable tell me?”
“The set is too beautiful (extreme screen licking edition). Sis, please make sure to get tired and take more pictures for us to see!”
“The lighting and shadow work also seem very good. The makeup this time is very natural. It really looks like Sis took these for us while traveling.”
“…”
Before long, someone identified it as Bay City and even found pictures of the same buildings in the background.
On Sunday night, Shen Yu carried her suitcase and drove Wen Xi to the hotel.
“Be good while I’m gone, okay?” Wen Xi reciprocated by gently stroking Shen Yu’s head a few times as comfort. The sensation was truly wonderful.
“I know,” Shen Yu leaned in to make it easier for Wen Xi to hug her. “Go on up. I’ll be fine.”
“Okay! Then wait for me to come home after work!”
Shen Yu watched Wen Xi get out of the car, then shook her head and smiled helplessly after a long moment. The hotel was arranged by the production crew, and there were reception staff downstairs. Wen Xi went up to verify her identity, as she had never publicly posted a real picture of herself online.
A young girl, who seemed stunned when Wen Xi walked up, led her upstairs. She quickly blushed after exchanging only a few words. “Teacher Twilight,” the girl brought Wen Xi to her room door and handed her the room key card. “This is your key card. Please, please keep it safe.”
“Thank you,” Wen Xi took it. “You’ve worked hard.”
The girl waved her hands. “It’s nothing, nothing. It’s my job.”
Wen Xi pushed her suitcase in. As soon as she opened the door, she was startled by a loud “Surprise!”
Wen Xi sighed helplessly. “Lu Xuan Yi!!”
“I’m here, I’m here,” Lu Xuan Yi giggled. “Just welcoming you!” Lu Xuan Yi peeked past Wen Xi. “But you’re alone. Where’s your assistant?”
“I don’t need an assistant for this kind of filming,” Wen Xi pushed her suitcase in and closed the door.
“Then, where’s Shen Yu?” Lu Xuan Yi raised an eyebrow, openly teasing. “Don’t tell me you don’t know. I saw the pictures Shen Yu posted last night. Isn’t this Bay City?”
Wen Xi didn’t hide it and nodded. Lu Xuan Yi slapped her thigh. “You’re incredible! Congratulations on successfully pursuing your idol! You even managed to capture the aloof Shen Yu. That’s amazing!”
Wen Xi asked, “Aloof flower? What does that mean?”
Lu Xuan Yi rested her hand on her cheek. “How should I put it? It means Shen Yu herself is too cold. She doesn’t like idle chatter during breaks on set, and she has very high standards for herself. That’s good, too.”
“I’ve heard people mention it before,” Wen Xi hesitated. “But you didn’t say that last time. Your exact words were that Shen Yu was hard to approach. How did that become ‘doesn’t like to talk’ now?”
“I was afraid of discouraging you before,” Lu Xuan Yi shrugged. “If you knew the star you liked was only pretending to be outgoing, but was actually very cold and barely socialized in private, and that the public persona was just an act, wouldn’t your admiration be shattered?”
Wen Xi hadn’t expected the term “doesn’t like to talk” to ever be applied to Shen Yu. Wen Xi suppressed her thoughts and smiled superficially. “That’s even better. If she can create such a positive image for her fans, then I like her even more.”
Lu Xuan Yi’s expression stiffened. She slowly raised her hand and patted Wen Xi’s shoulder. “Xi, I know. You’re very happy now that you’ve got your idol, but seriously, don’t become a ‘love-brain.’ Even zombies won’t eat a love-brain.”
Wen Xi: “…”
Lu Xuan Yi shook her head. “Tell me more. How did you two get together? Why did Shen Yu suddenly pursue you? You wouldn’t tell me last time. Now you’re right here in front of me. Let’s see if you can still refuse.”
