- Chapter 28 - The Academic Underachiever – “Quite greedy, aren’t you? Still haven’t had enough kissing?”
“Adams, where the hell are you kissing?!”
Adams took a light bite, feeling the other’s body tremble, then lifted his head and licked the corner of his mouth.
“Have you never been kissed here before?”
Han Yan was kneeling on the bed with his face buried in the pillow. A faint flush had risen across his rounded shoulders.
“No.”
The sensation was strange and unfamiliar, completely different from the usual. It was, honestly, a bit embarrassing.
Adams froze for a moment upon hearing that. As the realization set in, the color of his eyes deepened. His rough thumb pressed firmly over the spot, drawing a suppressed groan from Han Yan’s throat. He gripped Han Yan’s waist, pulling him closer, and leaned down to lick the shell of his ear.
“In the future, only let me kiss you here, okay, babe?”
“You have quite a few tricks now, do not you?”
Han Yan sat in the recently installed bathtub, held in Adams’ arms. His back rested against the man’s chest, and his fingers were caught and kissed at the lips.
“Do you like it?”
Han Yan tilted his head to glance at him, answering with a question of his own: “Did you learn that online too?”
“Yes.”
Cursed internet. Look at what it has done to a flower of the motherland!
Han Yan’s backside was aching. He felt completely spineless, nesting limply in Adams’ embrace, and let out a tired yawn.
“You should really spend less time online. You spend all day learning a bunch of nonsense.”
Adams kissed his temple. “But you were shaking very hard just now.”
Han Yan: “…”
“The bedsheets are also completely ruined. I will have to go change them later.”
Han Yan reached his limit. He turned around and covered Adams’ mouth, while the other man just blinked his clear eyes. Han Yan could not stand it when the man looked at him like that; in an instant, all his anger vanished into thin air.
He let out a small tsk, released his hand, and gave the man’s chin a little shake.
“Sometimes you really have to thank your face.”
Adams took his hand, rubbed it against his cheek, and pecked his palm.
“Then do you like my face?”
Han Yan hummed nonchalantly. “I like it. If I did not like it, why would I be willing to go to bed with you?”
Adams bared his canine teeth and began to nibble on Han Yan’s fingertips.
“Then only go to bed with me from now on, okay?”
Han Yan stared into those expectant eyes. His fingers suddenly delved into the man’s mouth, stirring wantonly.
“You want to be friends with benefits that badly?”
“Mmph… do not want you… to do it with anyone else,” Adams said indistinctly.
Han Yan’s eyes darkened. He withdrew his fingers and smeared the glistening saliva across the man’s full pectoral muscles.
“Fine. I will consider it.”
Adams was stunned for a moment, and a glimmer of light gradually emerged in his eyes.
“Really?”
Han Yan patted his cheek twice and raised an eyebrow. “Yes. It depends on your performance.”
Since Han Yan agreed to consider the proposal of remaining friends with benefits, Adams became even more clingy than before. He was so clingy that Han Yan occasionally could not help but rub his forehead in helplessness.
“Stop looking at me. How is the research coming along?”
Han Yan pinched Adams’ cheek. The latter snapped out of it with an “oh” and turned the computer around. Han Yan leaned over, frowning at the data on the screen, then suddenly reached out to ruffle Adams’ hair.
“Good job. Save it and send it to the group.”
Seeing Han Yan move toward the data Han Jue had found, Adams grabbed his hand and said in a deep voice, “Even if he did better than me, you cannot ruffle his head.”
Adams’ train of thought always left Han Yan speechless. He was like a little kid. Though, it was actually quite cute.
“Alright, keep looking for data. The more, the better. Fang Jianan said he submitted over a dozen pages of research for this class last semester, and that old man only gave him a D.”
“We are not hoping for a D anymore; a pass would be good enough. Let us try to find as much data as possible to show our proper attitude. Maybe the old man will see how hard we worked and kindly give us a pass?”
Even though the probability was extremely low, what if? One must hold on to beautiful dreams. Besides, finding more research was never a bad thing.
Han Yan moved his chair next to Han Jue. Seeing that the data he found was also fine, he told him to send it directly to the group.
“By the way, I saw your birthday wish when I woke up this morning. Thanks.”
Han Jue had sent him a birthday wish around eleven o’clock last night, but at that time, he was in the middle of a heated session with Adams in bed, so he naturally did not see the message. Seeing it when he woke up this morning had surprised him for quite a while.
“How did you know it was my birthday? You did not happen to see my student ID when I was buying food before, did you?”
Han Yan had intended it as a joke, but to his surprise, Han Jue actually nodded.
“Yes. I caught a glimpse of it last time when you were buying food.”
Great. One after another, why is everyone’s eyesight so good?
Come to think of it, no wonder Fang Jianan was the only one who did not know it was his birthday. Was it because his nearsightedness was too severe and his vision was failing?
Speaking of Fang Jianan, Han Yan planned to finish organizing the topics and data by tomorrow to let him take a look. After all, the other man had passed this class with a high score back then, so he naturally knew the tricks to scoring well. If their work was not up to par, they could still hurry and make adjustments.
He returned to his computer, opened the files uploaded to the WeChat group, and began integrating them. Finally, he finished organizing everything at eleven o’clock at night and sent it to Fang Jianan.
Ten minutes later, a long string of voice messages came from the other side. Before Han Yan could click on them, a voice call was thrown his way. He pressed answer, and Fang Jianan’s voice instantly came through the speaker.
“Han Yan, your topic direction is wrong! Most of the data you found is off-target!”
Han Yan felt like he could not catch his breath. At this point, there were less than two days left until the deadline.
It is okay. There is still time. I have done a three thousand word essay in a six-hour extreme challenge before. I can do this!
Han Yan regained his spirits and started analyzing the topic with Fang Jianan.
Adams had just finished showering and walked out of the bathroom naked, wearing only a pair of boxers and drying his hair with a towel in one hand. Seeing Han Yan tapping away at the computer, he walked over, put one arm around his waist, and sat down. He rested his chin on Han Yan’s shoulder and asked, “What happened?”
“We might have to find the research again. The topic direction was wrong.”
Adams looked at Han Yan’s deeply furrowed brows and turned his face over to give him a kiss.
“Do not worry. I will help you.”
The kiss made a distinct popping sound, which Fang Jianan heard clearly on the other end of the phone. There was silence for a moment before he asked tentatively, “Uh, is it convenient for you two to talk right now? If not, should I call you back later?”
Only then did Han Yan realize his phone was on speaker. He and Adams looked at each other awkwardly.
“Cough, it is fine. Go ahead, I am listening. Where did we leave off?”
Han Yan continued discussing with Fang Jianan, while Adams opened his own computer and started searching for data according to what they said.
After Fang Jianan hung up, Han Yan sent a message to Han Jue. He thought the other man might be asleep at this hour, but he received a reply very quickly.
Han Jue: [I am out right now. Should we talk via voice call when I get home?]
Han Yan: [Okay. Be careful on the road at this hour.]
Han Jue: [Cat nodding.jpg]
About half an hour later, Han Jue called.
“Did you get home safely?” Han Yan asked before the other person could speak.
The other side paused, and the sound of a smile entered his voice.
“Yes. Luckily, I did not run into any of those nasty teenagers. So, what is this about the topic direction being wrong? I am turning on my computer now to help you find data.”
The three of them stayed up all night and finally finished organizing the research. After Han Yan sent it to Fang Jianan, he set an alarm for the afternoon and went to bed to catch up on sleep.
Adams slid into the covers and reached out to pull him into his arms.
“Remember to wake me when the alarm goes off. I have class in the afternoon.”
Han Yan yawned, adjusted into a comfortable position in the man’s arms, and closed his eyes.
“Okay. You worked hard.”
Adams kissed his forehead, rested his chin on the top of his head, and fell into a dreamland with him.
After receiving Fang Jianan’s approval, Han Yan finally uploaded the document to Turnitin before the deadline.
Having temporarily settled one course, Han Yan could not relax yet because another course required an online quiz—fifteen questions in total, accounting for eight percent of the final grade.
Han Yan chose to copy the questions directly into ChatGPT to get the answers with one click. Adams stood behind him, watching this process as if a door to a new world had been opened.
The time limit for the quiz was forty-five minutes. Fearing that finishing too quickly would be too obvious, Han Yan deliberately waited a minute or two for each question. He spared a glance for Adams and raised an eyebrow. “What? Have you never seen this before?”
“No.”
Adams really had never used AI to do homework. He was a typical honest person.
“Using ChatGPT for this kind of online quiz is fine. The school cannot track it anyway. But for essays and things like that, try to write them yourself as much as possible. If the AI detection rate is too high, you will be called in for a meeting by the school. Though, I think there is software that can lower the AI detection rate, but I do not know much about it. For safety’s sake, it is better to write it yourself so you do not get stuck when the teacher asks for your thoughts.”
While educating Adams, Han Yan did not forget to finish the quiz. After completing the last question, he looked at his perfect score and stretched.
“By the way, did you do the quiz?”
“I did.”
“You were fast. What score did you get?”
Adams pursed his lips under Han Yan’s curious gaze.
“Six.”
There were fifteen questions in total, one point per question, with a maximum score of fifteen. Adams had only gotten a six? He had not even passed?!
“Did you… just guess?”
“Actually, I looked through the course materials.”
“Then how could you still fail?”
“I ran out of time at the end, so I just guessed.”
Han Yan fell silent and sighed softly. He reached out to hook his arm around Adams’ neck and ruffled his hair.
“Next time, ask me before you do your homework. I am really worried you will fail this semester.”
Adams turned to look at him and suddenly spoke out of the blue: “I did not pass.”
Han Yan gave him a bewildered look. “I know.”
“Could you… comfort me a little?”
Han Yan’s expression instantly became subtle. His brows arched slightly as he stared at him with a half-smile.
“How do you want me to comfort you?”
Adams leaned in and kissed his cheek. Feeling it was not enough, he kissed the corner of his mouth again. Seeing that he wanted to lean in for more, Han Yan grabbed his hair and pulled it back.
“Quite greedy, aren’t you? Still haven’t had enough kissing?”
“No. I can never have enough.”
