Chapter 9: Go to My Dorm, Squeeze onto My Bed…
Tang Yin led Xia Shinan away. Qu Bo watched the students he had called to cheer, who now all had expressions of still watching a show. He felt extremely humiliated and angrily yelled a few times: “What are you looking at! Disperse, everyone, disperse!”
He had originally thought that tomorrow everyone would be discussing “The Campus Stud of the Finance Department successfully proposed and won the beauty.” Now… none of that happened! And he lost so much face!
It was all the fault of that girl who suddenly appeared, otherwise, with Xia Shinan’s soft nature, she would have had no choice but to agree!
He glared fiercely at the direction Xia Shinan and Tang Yin had left. He had to make that girl pay a price!
Xia Shinan, I will make you regret rejecting my proposal!
Tang Yin took Xia Shinan out of the school.
Half an hour was enough for this huge gossip to spread throughout the entire University A. Xia Shinan was thin-skinned and would definitely feel worse staying at University A, so it was better to go out.
Walking out of the main gate of University A, turning left and right a few times, they arrived at an alleyway, which was brightly lit, with food, drinks, entertainment, and some shops selling handicrafts, etc., resembling a creative cultural street.
Xia Shinan had been keeping her head down, sullen and silent. Upon arriving here, she was finally drawn in by the surroundings, curiously looking around.
Then, Tang Yin led her into a dimly lit shop.
The interior decor had a medieval feel, with comfortable light music playing in the background. Various paintings hung on the walls, along with notes and Polaroid photos left by customers…
Xia Shinan looked around, then quietly pulled Tang Yin and asked: “Is this a bar?”
“Yes. Don’t worry, just follow me,” Tang Yin said with a smile. The two walked straight to the bar counter, where they saw a girl dressed even more like a princess than Xia Shinan.
A blue cinched-waist princess dress, loose hair, white long boots… noble and elegant.
“Ming Jing!” Tang Yin called out. The girl turned her head, which startled Xia Shinan.
The girl in the princess dress was wearing heavy smoky makeup and had an unlit cigarette dangling from her mouth, like… a blackened princess from a castle!
So unique!
Xia Shinan couldn’t help but look a few more times.
“Tang Yin?! Why are you here? Bringing a classmate for a drink?” Ming Jing was happy to see Tang Yin. She glanced at the girl beside her: long, straight black hair, wearing a light green puff-sleeved blouse and a white long skirt, very well-behaved.
But she seemed a little down. Unhappy?
But it was normal to think that. People who came here were usually one of two types: either unhappy or too happy.
“I haven’t seen you in a long time. My treat for whatever you’re drinking! We have some new items. Do you want to try them?” Ming Jing handed over the menu and continued with what she was doing.
Tang Yin glanced at the menu, lightly tapped her finger on it, “I’ll take this one. Two ‘Berry-less Heartless’ (莓心沒肺), but one of them should be non-alcoholic, no ice.”
Ming Jing raised an eyebrow and muttered, “Drinking so lightly, huh? Fine…”
Tang Yin smiled and rolled her eyes at her, then led Xia Shinan up to the second floor nearby.
The upstairs environment was similar to the downstairs, but quieter with fewer people. The customers at the tables spoke softly, making it suitable for conversation. They sat by the window. Brown wooden window frames had glass butterflies attached to them—yellow, blue, and purple—they were very beautiful. A small lamp hung outside the window, projecting the shadows of the butterflies onto the small table through the light.
Xia Shinan gently touched one and asked curiously: “Tang Yin, do you come here often?”
“Of course not.” Tang Yin looked around. It wasn’t much different from before. “I used to work part-time here during my sophomore year.”
Part-time?
Xia Shinan looked at Tang Yin. She usually appeared flamboyant and unrestrained, even happier than her, whom everyone called rich, but she was actually working hard at a part-time job.
“Then why did you stop later?” Xia Shinan was curious.
Tang Yin raised an eyebrow, the answer simple: “Because I found a higher-paying job.”
I see…
Xia Shinan immediately thought of something else: “Tang Yin, will filming the microfilm interfere with your part-time job?”
“No, I’ve coordinated my time. Besides, if we can win first place, I should get a decent share of the reward. Overall, isn’t that quite a good deal?” Tang Yin said, then looked at Xia Shinan, “Are you feeling better now?”
Xia Shinan was stunned, then nodded: “Mhm! Much better… Thank you, Tang Yin. I was useless. If you hadn’t shown up in that situation, I probably would have just cried. I trusted my roommates too much…”
Roommates?
Although Tang Yin was unsure of the full story, she didn’t plan to ask, lest Xia Shinan became unhappy recalling it.
“You don’t need to be sad. Now, it’s others who should be bothered, not you,” Tang Yin thought and offered comfort, “That guy must still feel like he lost a lot of face and is still stewing in anger.”
That might be true… but the previous scene still kept flashing in Xia Shinan’s mind. The overbearing Qu Bo, the bystanders who loved to watch drama, and Miao Miao hiding in the corner…
“Still thinking about it,” Tang Yin sighed, seeing her lost look. “Next time you encounter such a disgusting thing, just curse at him.”
Xia Shinan looked at Tang Yin seriously and said softly: “I did curse at him. I called him a lunatic.”
Tang Yin chuckled, then tried to distract Xia Shinan. “Calling someone that is barely cursing. Here, let me teach you a few phrases.”
Xia Shinan sat up straight, leaned forward a little, and nodded, listening intently to Tang Yin’s lesson.
Tang Yin took a sip of water, then, using the same tone as before, began to curse: “You love performing in the public eye so much. It seems you trained in a circus before. Well, next time just go streaking… wait, no one would watch you streaking, since you have nothing worth seeing.”
“You only occupy two of the four characters in ‘seeing things and having feelings’. You’re sick but don’t know to see a doctor. I’m not a vet.”
“If your brain is empty, fill it with more water so your small intestine doesn’t occupy the space…”
Xia Shinan listened, completely bewildered, her mouth slightly ajar, unable to speak.
“Tsk, tsk, tsk, Tang Yin, how can you be so harsh to such a well-behaved girl?” Ming Jing interrupted her from behind, walking over slowly with a tray in her hand.
Tang Yin lightly coughed, “I’m teaching her.”
Ming Jing smiled, placed the glasses down. The non-alcoholic one was placed in front of Xia Shinan. She asked with a soft chuckle: “What? Your classmate was bullied? What’s the point of cursing? Just fight back!”
Xia Shinan immediately shook her head, “Fighting is even worse!”
Tang Yin’s lesson was enough for her to handle. She couldn’t possibly learn how to fight.
“Oh~~” Ming Jing glanced at Tang Yin and straightened up: “Then just let Tang Yin protect you.”
Protect… Xia Shinan’s gaze shifted to Tang Yin. Tang Yin was already protecting her. Among her usual friends and classmates, no one helped her. Only Tang Yin stood by her side.
This was protection.
“Our Sister Yin is amazing. Even ghosts and gods would concede to her when she starts a fight,” Ming Jing teased.
Xia Shinan “Woah-ed” and blinked: “Tang Yin, you can fight too?”
“You didn’t know?” Ming Jing was surprised, “Last year at the bar…”
“Cough, cough! If it shouldn’t be said, please shut up,” Tang Yin glared at Ming Jing. “Get lost, you. People downstairs are waiting for you to work.”
Ming Jing made a zipping motion over her mouth and slipped downstairs.
Tang Yin let out an annoyed huff. When she looked up at Xia Shinan again, she saw the girl holding her cheeks, elbows resting on the table, staring at her with a curious expression.
“Don’t listen to her. She always exaggerates,” Tang Yin said awkwardly.
“Mhm!”
Xia Shinan nodded, still cupping her cheeks and looking at her, “I just think you’re really amazing!”
“I believe you! Everything you do has a reason. Even if you fight, it must be because the other person went too far, and you had no choice.”
Tang Yin froze, looking at Xia Shinan’s pure eyes. She suddenly felt a tug at her heart.
She blinked, her gaze fixed on the paper butterflies on the window, asking as if it were a casual, offhand remark.
“What if… I’m actually very bad, and even approaching someone is with bad intentions, and I even want to take her things. Would you still believe that I had no choice?” Her eyes turned to Xia Shinan, waiting for her answer.
Her breathing paused for two seconds, and then she heard Xia Shinan’s reply: “Yes, I would believe it! You’re not the type of person to easily take someone else’s things, unless… unless it was originally yours.”
“Returning something to its rightful owner is only natural.”
Returning something to its rightful owner is only natural.
Tang Yin’s throat moved as she listened to her words, “Mhm… thank you.”
Xia Shinan seemed to see the Tang Yin who had suddenly left that day again. The unrestrained smile disappeared, replaced by a girl carrying a hint of gloom.
“What are you thanking me for?”
Tang Yin looked up at her, “Thank you for believing in me.”
Xia Shinan smiled at her: “Belief is a very easy thing.”
After speaking, she took a sip of the non-alcoholic drink that had been delivered. It was sweet and sour, with the scent of berries, and tasted very good.
The two chatted for a long time. Ming Jing even brought them some snacks. Xia Shinan’s mood had indeed improved a lot because of Tang Yin and the atmosphere here, and she also became more cheerful.
It wasn’t until close to eleven o’clock that Xia Shinan, who usually kept a regular sleep schedule, finally couldn’t help but yawn.
“Shall we go back and rest?” Tang Yin suggested. “There are fewer people now, and we can still make it back to the dorm before curfew.”
Xia Shinan’s shoulders immediately slumped when she heard her words.
“I… I don’t really want to go back to the dorm.”
She had already planned to settle the score with Miao Miao later, but she hadn’t figured out how. She didn’t want to see those annoying people right now, nor did she want to return to the dorm.
But Qian Yu had gone home, so it wasn’t convenient to go to her dorm at this time either.
If she stayed in a hotel… she would need her ID card to check in, and her mother would find out sooner or later.
Xia Shinan suddenly felt like a pitiful girl with nowhere to go.
“Tang Yin, until when is this bar open?”
Tang Yin raised an eyebrow, “You want to sleep in a bar?” She was surprised the good girl could even think of something like that.
She stood up, “Let’s go.”
Xia Shinan looked at her blankly but obediently picked up her bag and walked out of the bar with her.
“There’s only one budget hotel nearby. If you want a better place to stay, you’ll have to take a taxi three kilometers away. Which one do you choose?”
Xia Shinan was confused by Tang Yin’s words, and a few seconds later, she realized: “A hotel might not work!”
“Why?” Tang Yin looked up, confused.
Xia Shinan was honest: “I need my ID card to check into a hotel. It wouldn’t be good if my mom found out.”
Tang Yin pursed her lips and said faintly: “Your mom cares about you very much.”
“No, no…” Xia Shinan quickly waved her hand, “It’s complicated. How about I find a classroom that isn’t locked… or the club activity room! I can just get the key from the President!”
Tang Yin’s eyebrow twitched at Xia Shinan’s suggestions. The temperature difference was large recently. Sleeping in the activity room at night did she want to freeze to death?
She sighed helplessly, “Well, there are two options. One, the nearby hotels have a lot of students staying there, and the owners are not so strict. We can try to use my ID card to get you a room.”
Xia Shinan frowned, “I don’t think that will work… What’s option two?”
Tang Yin smiled: “Two, go to my dorm, squeeze onto my bed with me.”
