Chapter 57: This Little Trick of Deception, Compared to CEO Tang’s…
Xia Shinan’s heart tightened. She finally looked up and met Tang Yin’s eyes, but was immediately scalded by the various emotions hidden in them and quickly looked away.
“I don’t know about this,” Xia Shinan said.
Tang Yin’s mouth curled up, “Mhm, well, now you know.” She looked at the mirror, suddenly a little distracted, as if she were back in the time when the two of them lived together five years ago.
They often looked in the mirror together.
But Tang Yin always felt that she was somehow lacking compared to Xia Shinan. Now it seemed that they weren’t lacking at all. From then until now, they were still so well-matched.
But the Xia Shinan in the mirror frowned, without a smile on her face: “CEO Tang, I have the right to say no.”
“Please find someone else for your female companion.”
Xia Shinan said, and went into the fitting room to change out of the dress.
Mu Ziyu sat on the sofa, silently watching the strange interaction between the two people. She suddenly remembered Xia Shinan’s “past love.” Was this her?
She looked quite impressive… While she was still observing, she felt a dangerous gaze, and her body shivered.
“Are you Shinan’s friend? Or her assistant?”
Mu Ziyu felt uneasy under Tang Yin’s stare and subconsciously wanted to answer truthfully, but Xia Shinan walked out of the fitting room, took Mu Ziyu’s hand, and said: “She is my girlfriend.”
Tang Yin’s smile froze, and her expression turned to shock and disbelief. “What did you say?”
Xia Shinan curved her lips. “She is my girlfriend, so… please stay away from me, CEO Tang.”
With that, she stopped looking at Tang Yin and pulled Mu Ziyu out of there.
As they entered the elevator, Xia Shinan’s tense body finally relaxed, and she took deep breaths. She let go of Mu Ziyu’s hand and apologized: “I’m sorry, I…”
Before she could finish her sentence, the closing elevator door opened again. It was Tang Yin.
She pursed her lips, exuding a cold aura, and walked inside.
The elevator door closed. The small space was filled with a strange atmosphere. Xia Shinan tried not to look at Tang Yin, but her peripheral vision couldn’t help but monitor what Tang Yin was going to do.
“How long have you two been together?” Tang Yin suddenly asked.
Mu Ziyu was stunned and subconsciously looked at Xia Shinan. “We…”
“Last year. We’ve been together for over a year,” Xia Shinan replied, clenching her palm.
Tang Yin lowered her eyes and forced an ugly smile: “Is that so?”
“Can Miss Xia manage both a relationship and her career well?”
Xia Shinan moved her lips slightly: “That’s none of your business, CEO Tang.”
Her eyes watched the elevator numbers. When it finally reached the first floor and the door opened, it felt like she saw the door of hope.
“CEO Tang, we’ll leave first…”
But before she could finish, Tang Yin grabbed her arm and pulled her back into the elevator!
Tang Yin’s face was cold. As she pressed the door-close button, she said to the stunned Mu Ziyu with a sneer: “I’m borrowing your girlfriend.”
“Let go of me!” Xia Shinan struggled, but found she couldn’t break free from Tang Yin’s grip. When the elevator stopped at the basement level, she was seized by Tang Yin and shoved into the car.
Xia Shinan turned to open the door, but the other person was faster and locked the door.
Tang Yin pursed her lips and said nothing, starting the car immediately.
Girlfriend? Couple…
These beautiful words used to describe her and Xia Shinan. But now they were used on Xia Shinan and someone else. The annoyance in her heart was like being gnawed by thousands of ants, mixed with Xia Shinan’s voice.
“CEO Tang, where are you taking me? Let me out of the car!”
“You took me into your car without my permission! This is illegal!”
“My girlfriend will call the police at any time!”
“Say something!”
“Tang Yin!”
Tang Yin stepped on the brake, stopping at the red light ahead.
She turned to look at Xia Shinan, her eyes showing surprise, disbelief, and more so, sorrow.
“You finally called my name? Shinan. The last two times we met, every ‘CEO Tang’ you said was terribly cold. I would rather you talk to me with this tone, as long as you call my name.”
Xia Shinan turned her head to look ahead.
“CEO Tang, what exactly do you want to do?”
“Girlfriend? Was it necessary to use this excuse to push me away?” Tang Yin sneered. “I asked Wen Juan. You are single.”
Xia Shinan bit her lip, not expecting Tang Yin to see through her lie so quickly. “But…”
Tang Yin finished her sentence, “But even though I know you’re lying to me, I still feel sad.”
Xia Shinan was stunned and couldn’t help but laugh. “Why? Has CEO Tang never been lied to before? Is that why you can’t stand it? This little trick of deception, compared to CEO Tang, I’m not qualified.”
Tang Yin gripped the steering wheel. “Of course not. As long as you are willing to see me and not avoid me, it’s okay even if you lie.”
“Is that so?” Xia Shinan watched the distant red light turn green, and the car started moving again. “But I don’t feel like it. I’m very busy.”
“Where exactly are you taking me?” Xia Shinan grabbed her phone. “If this continues, I’ll call the police.”
“Go ahead…” Tang Yin turned the steering wheel, and the car drove into a green path. Not far away was Yuncheng’s best five-star hotel.
“Someone else also wanted to call the police. She always thought her best friend had passed away and suffered for five years, but she didn’t expect her best friend to be doing perfectly well.”
Tang Yin stopped the car. “Do you want to call the police, or go upstairs?”
Xia Shinan lowered her hand. Her nose tingled upon hearing Tang Yin’s words. She looked up at the castle-like hotel. Someone was waiting for her there.
Xia Shinan didn’t hesitate, followed Tang Yin out of the car, entered the elevator, and went upstairs.
“Why didn’t you contact us? Or… contact Qian Yu,” Tang Yin asked, looking at Xia Shinan’s thin face.
Xia Shinan lowered her eyes, her brow slightly furrowed before smoothing out. Her tone was flat: “Just didn’t want to.”
Tang Yin froze and didn’t ask anything else. When the elevator door opened, she led her to the room.
The two walked to the room door, but Xia Shinan hesitated, her expression solemn. She was afraid.
Tang Yin noticed her hesitation, thought for a moment, and said: “Or we can go back first. Next time…”
Before she could finish, the door opened.
Her friend, whom she hadn’t seen for five years, hadn’t changed much in appearance, but had become more mature and beautiful.
Xia Shinan looked at Qian Yu, held back the tears welling up, and tried to force a smile. “Little Yu Mao…”
Before she could finish, a cup of cold water was splashed on her face. Tang Yin was startled and didn’t have time to stop it.
Qian Yu’s hands trembled as she watched Xia Shinan get completely drenched. The next second, she rushed forward, hugged her, and burst into tears.
“Quickly wipe yourself dry, so you don’t catch a cold,” Ming Jing handed Xia Shinan a towel in the room, then gave Tang Yin a look. The two went to the next room, leaving the living room to the two friends.
“You are the worst person in the whole world! I always thought you were dead and even went to your grave to burn paper money every year!” Qian Yu cried and spoke, yet her words made people want to laugh.
Xia Shinan finally couldn’t hold back her tears, hugging Qian Yu and apologizing countless times.
“I won’t forgive you unless you give me a reason,” Qian Yu said, her eyes red, her face stern, sobbing. “Do you think buying me a necklace makes everything okay? Do you think just saying sorry makes everything okay?”
“I can’t get over it!” Qian Yu said.
Xia Shinan was stunned, her eyelashes fluttering as a tear or two fell. “But Little Yu Mao, I couldn’t get over it back then either.”
Five years ago, even though she smiled and said goodbye to everyone, when she sat on the plane, flying through the clouds, she still felt like she had lost her soul.
After so much happened, choosing to go abroad felt like picking up a heavy shell and putting it on herself, so others wouldn’t see if she was still sad.
But how could all that sadness be completely erased by just one plane ride?
Unless she had been on that crashed plane at the time.
When she arrived in Singapore and heard about the plane crash, she had thought about telling Qian Yu she was safe, but Xia Tong called her and said: “Shinan, forget the past and start a new life. Forget everything, good and bad.”
Yes, forget the past, be a new Xia Shinan, and pretend her former self had boarded that plane to the US.
In these five years, she had been through a lot and grown a lot, but the only person she consistently felt she owed was Little Yu Mao.
She knew Qian Yu must have been very, very sad thinking she was dead, so she was truly sorry.
“Then why did you come back?” Qian Yu asked.
Xia Shinan pursed her lips and smiled. “I’ll tell you later, okay? A secret.”
Qian Yu was stunned, then looked out the window with a stern face. “Fine, but you can’t… disappear again.”
“I won’t.” Xia Shinan used the towel to wipe her face. “If it happens again, you can continue to splash me with cold water.”
Qian Yu’s eyes turned red again. “I’ll splash you with boiling water!”
Xia Shinan choked up: “Okay, splash me with boiling water.”
Their emotions calmed down significantly. After chatting for a while, Xia Shinan finally remembered the phone in her bag and took it out to find over a dozen missed calls.
She quickly called Mu Ziyu back.
“Sister, are you okay? Your ex-wife… ex-partner… past love… she didn’t do anything to you, did she?”
“I’m fine,” Xia Shinan smiled. “Did you go back?”
Mu Ziyu: “No, I’m drinking milk tea nearby. Waiting for your call back.”
“I’m so sorry for worrying you. I’ll treat you to dinner?”
“Sure, sure!”
After hanging up, Qian Yu looked at her with resentment. “Did you make new friends abroad?”
Xia Shinan was stunned, unsure how to explain. Then she saw Qian Yu pout: “Never mind. Seeing you were so pitiful alone abroad, I’ll forgive you.”
“Thank you for your forgiveness, Little Yu Mao.” Xia Shinan tilted her head and smiled at Qian Yu, but tears flowed again.
“It’s ugly to cry while smiling,” Qian Yu complained, but she was also smiling while crying.
Xia Shinan had to return to her company in the afternoon, so she needed to leave first.
“Will you go to the banquet tomorrow night, then?” Qian Yu asked reluctantly.
“Are you going tomorrow too?” Xia Shinan hadn’t known this.
Qian Yu nodded: “I’m Ming Jing’s female companion… You should go too. I heard a few famous directors will be there. It’ll help your career! Even if you don’t want to socialize, you can still chat with me.”
Xia Shinan thought for a moment. “Okay, I’ll go.”
Xia Shinan hadn’t expected Tang Yin to be waiting for her downstairs.
“Finished talking? Are you okay?”
Xia Shinan looked up at Tang Yin. “Thank you, CEO Tang, for arranging the reunion with my old friend.”
Tang Yin pursed her lips. “I said you can call me by my name directly.”
“I wouldn’t dare,” Xia Shinan smiled. “Calling you CEO Tang will constantly remind me of my place.”
With that, Xia Shinan started to leave, but Tang Yin followed: “Since you thanked me, does that mean… you owe me a favor?”
“What?” Xia Shinan looked disbelieving.
“Since you owe me a favor, pay it back soon,” Tang Yin seized the opportunity. “Tomorrow night, be my female companion.”
