Chapter 26: Misalignment, Not a Real Kiss.
“So, you ran away from the car?”
Xia Shinan nodded, holding the milk tea Tang Yin bought her. She took a sip, and her uneasy emotions seemed to be soothed.
Immediately, a faint jasmine scent filled her lips, along with a hint of sweetness. It was delicious.
“Well done,” Tang Yin said.
Xia Shinan looked up at her, then said seriously, “Actually, I think I did very well too. I… was brave for once!”
Tang Yin looked down and smiled, “Very brave indeed.”
Xia Shinan felt that this “bravery” wasn’t the same as the one she was thinking of… She bit her lip. The thought of how she had just hugged Tang Yin and confessed to her made her genuinely want to find a hole to crawl into.
Her phone started vibrating again. Tang Yin glanced at it, “Your mother is calling again?”
“Mhm,” Xia Shinan responded, hanging up the phone again, and then simply turned it off.
Tang Yin watched her actions and asked, “Aren’t you afraid she’ll be angry?”
“But it’s no use being afraid; she’s already angry. This is the first time I’ve gone against her wishes and the first time I’ve hung up on her. Although I’m scared, it feels really good to make my own decisions.”
Xia Shinan’s smile was slight, her eyes twinkling as she looked at Tang Yin.
But after only a few seconds of eye contact with Tang Yin, her heart started racing, and she lowered her head, stammering, “Tang Yin, don’t stare at me.”
“Why?” Tang Yin asked.
“You make me… nervous,” Xia Shinan bit her lip, burying her head low, whispering.
She was very honest; she couldn’t lie, and she didn’t want to lie to Tang Yin.
The next second, she felt the person next to her move, seemingly leaning closer to her. Then, a hand slightly larger and darker than hers covered her hand, gripping it tightly.
“Feel it. I’m nervous too,” Tang Yin said softly.
Xia Shinan was momentarily stunned. She obediently felt it. Tang Yin’s hand was warm, and it seemed… a little sweaty. Was her palm sweating because she was nervous?
Xia Shinan gently curved her lips into a smile, not speaking.
If Tang Yin was also nervous, then there was nothing to be embarrassed about.
“You still haven’t told me the results of your physical fitness test,” Tang Yin said.
Xia Shinan: “Of course I passed! But… I only just barely passed.”
“That’s already great. It’s a huge improvement,” Tang Yin said. “Just like your rebellion against your family, you’ve at least taken a big step forward, haven’t you?”
“Mhm!” Xia Shinan smiled sincerely, her eyes curving. She suddenly thought of something: “Weren’t you working part-time this afternoon? Did your boss get angry about you coming to find me?”
Tang Yin smiled and shook her head, “No, I already asked for the day off.”
The two then called Qian Yu, and they ate together. Qian Yu, knowing that Xia Shinan had actually stood up to Xie Wan, couldn’t help but applaud enthusiastically, “You should have done this a long time ago! But it’s never too late to start growing up!”
In Qian Yu’s mind, Xia Shinan had been restrained, and now she finally dared to take a small step. It was practically a miracle.
“But what about the Lin family?”
Xia Shinan paused. She didn’t know what to do either.
Tang Yin raised an eyebrow: “Is he a grown man who can’t get on a plane or eat by himself? Just let him deal with it.”
Qian Yu gave a thumbs-up: “Good point. Tang Yin is right. Who cares about him? We should just be happy! A toast with milk tea!”
“Cheers!”
After a big gulp, Qian Yu said, “By the way, Shinan, since you’ve drunk with Tang Yin before, why don’t we go for a drink? Let’s drink till we drop tonight!”
Xia Shinan shook her head: “No, no. We have a club shoot tomorrow. Let’s go to that bar Tang Yin took me to last time after the shoot is done. It tastes really good~~”
Qian Yu narrowed her eyes, “You two went to a bar behind my back?! How many secrets are you keeping from me? Spill it all!”
Tang Yin: “What secrets? We’ll take you next time. My treat.”
Xia Shinan looked a little lost. She glanced at Tang Yin, then smiled and nodded in agreement, but she didn’t say anything more. Her mood started to drop.
Was Tang Yin just teasing her and didn’t really want to date her? Otherwise, why wouldn’t she tell Little Feather?
That night, when Tang Yin walked Xia Shinan back to her apartment complex, Tang Yin only spoke when they reached the building downstairs.
“Shinan, should we keep our relationship a secret from Qian Yu for now, okay?”
Xia Shinan squeezed her fingers tightly, “Why? Are you… unwilling to let people know you’re a lesbian?”
Tang Yin gently stroked her head: “It’s for your sake. If people found out that the campus belle likes a girl like me, there would be a lot of gossip.”
So it was for her…
“Then why not tell Qian Yu either?”
Tang Yin explained: “She’s already so cautious about me being your friend. If she knew we were dating, wouldn’t it cause an uproar?”
That made sense…
Xia Shinan pursed her lips, suddenly realizing what Tang Yin had just said, and instantly became flustered. “You just said… we are dating.”
Tang Yin paused, then curved her lips into a smile, “Yes, do you want to hold hands again?”
Xia Shinan didn’t speak, but she lightly hooked Tang Yin’s finger. The next second, the other party tightly grasped her hand.
“!!”
It was a good thing it was just holding hands; otherwise, Xia Shinan worried her heart might be overloaded.
“It’s getting late. Go upstairs quickly. See you tomorrow.”
“See you tomorrow.”
When Xia Shinan got home, she went to the bathroom to wash up and realized her face was incredibly red. No wonder Tang Yin had been smiling when they said goodbye.
After showering, Xia Shinan still couldn’t sleep as she lay in bed. She took out her phone, wanting to send Tang Yin a message.
“Are you back at the dorm?”
She sent the message and then started anticipating the reply. While waiting, she changed Tang Yin’s contact name.
“Tang Tang.” Xia Shinan looked at the new name, smiling as she whispered.
Calling her ‘girlfriend’ was too deliberate and showy, and calling her ‘Tang Yin’ was too distant. ‘Tang Tang’… was just right.
Two minutes later, Tang Tang replied.
“I got back a while ago, showered, dried my hair, and now I’m going to look over tomorrow’s script again.”
Tomorrow’s script? Xia Shinan was momentarily stunned. She quickly got out of bed to find her script. She wanted to read it with Tang Yin!
There were two main scenes to be filmed tomorrow. One was Mi Jia getting injured, and Xiao Ying rushing to the infirmary to see her, where her feelings were exposed through her words and actions.
This was the scene Tang Yin had auditioned with, so it was relatively relaxed.
The other scene was the two of them working on a group project. A classmate frequently showed interest in Xiao Ying. Mi Jia became jealous but couldn’t express it, so she unilaterally started a cold war. Xiao Ying was also unhappy. One night, she cornered Mi Jia in the laundry room downstairs from the dorm, wanting to talk things through. During their argument, Mi Jia accidentally blurted out that she liked Xiao Ying and then fled in embarrassment.
However, as she was going upstairs, Xiao Ying grabbed her and kissed her.
This…
With all the recent activity, she had completely forgotten that there was a kiss scene in the script.
Was she and Tang Yin going to kiss?
Upon closer inspection, Tail had added a special note on the side: Misalignment, not a real kiss.
Oh… misalignment.
But wouldn’t misalignment still involve touching skin? The thought of touching Tang Yin’s skin made Xia Shinan unable to stop herself from… blushing again.
