After the Empress O Got Pregnant - Chapter 1
Jiang Wu had not dreamed for a very long time.
As a firm semi-materialist, she believed that dreams were simply worlds constructed by the brain after becoming overly active and disordered. The clearer a dream was, the worse one’s mental state would be the next day.
She silently looked at the classical and elegant room decor, deciding to wake up.
So she tightened her grip on the silver hairpin hidden beneath her pillow, preparing to drive it straight into her carotid artery. With a sudden static screech of electronic sound, a tension-warped tone rolled out like a peal of thunder.
“Wait! Spare my life!”
Tsk.
So noisy.
The silver hairpin in her palm pressed half an inch deeper. A sudden tingling sensation bloomed across her fingertips, and the blood-stained silver hairpin dropped onto the rug, splashing red dots that bloomed outward.
So painful.
She blinked dazedly, clearing the tears that overflowed from the corners of her eyes.
Things seemed to be getting a bit serious. She flicked away the blood stained on her fingertips, her dense, feather-like eyelashes drooping low to cover her tear-shined eyelids.
The light mass floating in mid-air glanced at the panel of this new host: Happy puppy, afraid of pain, cries easily but hates crying in front of others, eccentric train of thought.
Below that was another line of small, specially reminded text: An extraordinarily magical person.
Observing that the host had temporarily extinguished her thoughts of self-destruction, it cleared its throat and instantly split a small mass of light onto the new host’s forehead.
“Ahem. Hello, Host 1008. I am your system. In the days to come, I will be your most reliable partner.”
A wave of memories was suddenly and forcibly shoved into Jiang Wu’s mind. Before she could react, the pain caused her to half-kneel on the rug, her elbows instinctively propping against the sandalwood cabinet by the bed to keep herself from looking too disheveled.
The original host, Jiang Wu, the youngest daughter of the current Prime Minister. Her family had not placed any heavy expectations on her, placing great emphasis on cultivating children’s personal interests and ideals. She had been raised in a free-range style from childhood, growing up in complete freedom.
Living up to expectations, the original host learned nothing at all, living her life as a filial, leeching, useless wastrel who neither stirred up trouble nor bullied others. Thanks to a fine appearance, her reputation in the capital was passable.
That was until the Lantern Festival three months ago. At a lantern-lit street corner, she fell in love at first sight with the Empress who had come out for a royal tour. The moment she returned home, she threw a massive tantrum demanding to enter the palace as one of the Empress’s male consorts.
She tried everything, including hunger strikes and hanging threats, until her mother, exasperated by her failure to improve, finally packed her up and sent her straight into the palace, achieving a qualitative leap from a life of luxury and fine food to sheer destitution.
In less than a year inside the palace, she had not even caught a glimpse of the Empress before dying of bitter resentment when her maternal family suffered a political crisis.
After digesting this sequence of memories, the alpha, who had been stubbornly forcing herself not to kneel, relaxed her wrists and collapsed straight to the floor, losing all strength and will.
Was the original host a pig?!
Just how pretty and charming could someone be to make the original host abandon a life where dozens of maids waited on her hand and foot the moment she opened her eyes, just to run into the palace and live a self-sufficient life full of schemes and backstabbing?
Her temples still throbbed faintly. She called out to the system with a feeble voice.
“1008.”
“Host, 1008 is your serial number.”
Jiang Wu ignored it. “Did I die or get sick in my original world?”
Every novel she had ever read went like this: someone suddenly died or contracted a terminal illness, and then had a probability of being pulled across to save someone and gain a chance at a new life.
“Neither dead nor sick.”
Jiang Wu fell silent for a moment, bending down to pick up the silver hairpin from the floor.
“However, the system detects that you just scored 424 points on your College English Test Band 6 taken today. Your finance major has a bleak future ahead, and the probability of landing a job at Pinduoduo delivery or sales is eighty percent.”
She was numb.
She put down the silver hairpin and revealed a docile, obedient smile.
“Think carefully: since you inherited the original host’s body, you also acquired her background and identity, her vast wealth and power.”
“Besides, as a consort, you do not have to do anything yet you receive a monthly stipend of 2.4 liang of silver. Much better than modern times.”
“2.4 liang, converted to modern terms, that is what,” Jiang Wu rapidly calculated in her mind, “a three-thousand-yuan monthly salary?”
The brightness in her eyes quickly went out.
How is this any different from doing sales?!
Money from her maternal family could not be brought in, and all her food, clothing, housing, and transportation inside the palace relied entirely on this meager stipend. Yet currently, all the alphas belonging to the Empress were consorts, and not a single one had ever been promoted in rank.
Everyone was equal at three thousand, poor and clear-cut.
Noticing that the host was feeling a bit negative and lacking interest, the system hesitantly spoke up, “It is fine, Host. For thirty years the river flows east…”
Jiang Wu reached out and batted away the ball of light.
Modern youth do not accept PUA. Thirty years east, forty years east, fifty years east, anyone who believes this will still be crying out, “Don’t bully the elderly in poverty,” at age sixty.
Furthermore, in the inner palace, raising one’s stipend required vying for favor; vying for favor required approaching the Empress; approaching the Empress was equivalent to an early death.
There was no point whatsoever.
Following her memories, she opened the drawer and rummaged through it to find the remaining few pieces of loose currency, amounting to maybe four or five hundred cash.
There was still half a month left until the next stipend disbursement.
She could not help but wonder if the original host really died of melancholy, or if, with the original host’s extraordinary brain, she simply starved to death in the palace.
She stood up and brushed the debris off her clothes. A breeze chimed the windchimes at the door. Turning her head, she caught sight of a fair and handsome face in the full-length mirror by the wooden door.
Beautiful phoenix eyes, long and narrow in shape, inner corners curving slightly downward, outer corners slanting upward toward her temples. Her bright, watery eyes were clear and innocent, flushed with a tearful red from having just been cried into pain.
The original host had great taste in clothing: a moon-white robe edged with gold leaf, and long hair softly gathered behind her back that had flipped up slightly at the edge upon waking, making her look like an expensive, ruffled puppy.
She had been pretty for twenty-one years and felt nothing special about having a pretty face.
An excessively good-looking face only made it easier for professors to notice her, ensuring a 100% fail rate for skipping classes. Whenever she tried to eat quietly, someone would always nervously wander over to ask for her contact information. Girls were fine, polite and gentle, but some foul-mouthed guys could be truly annoying.
What deserved attention was that this was an ABO world.
Jiang Wu touched the scent gland on the back of her neck, which was covered by a suppression patch. Tearing the patch off, a rich mint scent permeated the surroundings, reacting slightly with a certain pheromone outside the door.
Being a newcomer unfamiliar with these things, Jiang Wu furrowed her brow, feeling that patch of soft flesh throb a few times with a faint, itchy yearning.
She opened the wooden door of her room to catch some fresh air, only to bump straight into a pair of amber eyes filled with watery depths.
A rich iris fragrance enveloped her entire person. It felt like being tossed into the deep sea, causing a momentary oxygen deprivation and suffocation.
The woman outside the door glanced at her indifferently, moving as naturally as if returning to her own home, even pulling the door shut behind her as she entered.
The suffocating oppressive force rolled over her like a tide. Jiang Wu pressed her back tightly against the wooden door, supporting herself with reddened eyes as she looked at the woman.
Very beautiful, very dangerous, exuding an aura of high-born nobility and aloofness from head to toe. Even the roots of her eyelashes were tinged with a damp flush, yet she looked so self-contained that no one would dare approach her.
Jiang Wu tightened her body, her brain operating at high speed. Confirming that the original host had no lovers, she spoke with a trembling voice.
“Who are you?”
“Do you know where this is? Breaking into the inner palace at night.”
“Shut up.” The woman cast an intolerant glance at her. Jiang Wu shrank back slightly and hushed.
What is she acting so fierce for?
Is having a loud voice amazing? If this were not a society governed by law, she would bite her to death!
“You do not recognize me?” The woman lowered her gaze, sitting with slight disdain on the only bed in Jiang Wu’s chambers, which creaked loudly as it shifted.
Alphas were disgusting creatures, using any means necessary to achieve their goals. Over the years, she had never set foot in the inner palace, but she had heard a thing or two about this eccentric woman who had fought tooth and nail years ago to marry her.
Foolish and jealous, desperate just to show her face in front of her, and now that they actually met, she was pretending not to know her. Such a vulgar, low-class tactic.
Had she known that clean pheromone belonged to this person, she would not have come in no matter what.
Yet there was no help for it; she was currently on the verge of losing control. Her long-suppressed rut had completely erupted after being drugged, reaching an inescapable point.
She had to find an alpha to find relief.
Provoked by the woman’s rude tone, Jiang Wu lowered her gaze to look at her, her phoenix eyes pressing slightly downward. “Do I need to recognize you? Miss, you broke into a guesthouse at night.”
“Come here.” Her words were interrupted once more, completely ticking Jiang Wu off.
With a stiff face and a furry shuffle, she walked over.
Before she could open her mouth to question further, her chin was pinched, and the woman shoved a pill of unknown origin into her mouth.
She instinctively chewed and then swallowed it.
“What is this?”
It tasted quite awful.
Pei Yu watched the alpha who had swallowed it first before asking what it was, a look of mild amusement crossing her face.
Once again enveloped by the scent of irises, a wave of heat surged through Jiang Wu’s body in an instant. Something sharp seemed to be growing inside her mouth; she gently rubbed it with her thumb, touching two sharp yet slightly soft teeth.
Roughly one and a half centimeters.
Her brain was in utter chaos, and the newly grown teeth itched with dense, prickling sensations, desperately wanting to bite something.
Her body grew increasingly soft. A scorching heat spread from the blood vessels in the back of her neck, dispersing inch by inch through her entire body. She exhaled a hurried breath, her sharp teeth biting a bloody trace into her lips.
Were these locals really so devoid of martial virtue, drugging people right at the start?
Seeing that the medicine was taking effect, Pei Yu crooked a finger at the person looking at her with watery eyes. The alpha’s scorching palm grabbed her waist without any sense of measure, clumsily attempting to unfasten her complex-styled outer robe for the first time.
Watching this person fail several attempts and grow irritated with herself, a complex glimmer flashed through the woman’s beautiful eyes.
In the end, the woman took Jiang Wu’s hand, guiding her to loosen her own sash, letting the soft, luxurious garments scatter all over the floor.
Following the scent where it was thickest, the alpha leaned in, lightly sniffing the damp gland on the back of her neck before biting down unawares.
The woman, still trying to unfasten her inner garments, let out a muffled groan, a faint watery sheen welling up in the corners of her eyes.
Who on earth starts straight by biting an omega’s gland without a scrap of foreplay?!
Had this alpha seriously studied how to serve her mistress?
She nearly clenched her teeth to pieces. She had long heard that Jiang Wu was a leeching, useless wastrel, and true to form, her reputation did not disappoint.
With pheromones injected into her blood vessels all the way to the innermost reproductive tract, Pei Yu melted onto Jiang Wu’s shoulder, suppressing the breath in her throat over and over again.
As the marking finally drew to a close, the satiated person curved her eyes, locking a sparkling gaze with the omega in her arms.
Pei Yu had yet to recover her wits. Lowering her gaze, she looked down from on high at the alpha, whose vision was blurred by the drug’s lingering effects.
“Fool. What comes next, do you need me to teach you?”
The person with clouded vision nodded earnestly.
Pei Yu closed her eyes, wondering for a split second if she had been too kind, making this scheming A think she had a very good temper.
Yet having reached this point, there was no turning back. She led the alpha’s hand downward, her voice soft and slow.
“Right here. Ugh, slower.”
At the instant her vision scattered, Pei Yu dug her fingertips into the alpha’s arm and bit down on her shoulder.
Clearly, Jiang Wu knew how to do this very well. How dare she, how could she dare bully her in a matter like this?
Tomorrow, she was going to have her entire family beheaded.
