After the Divorce, My Wife Is Impossible to Coax - Chapter 56
Chapter 56
An Zhaoyu was just about to start the car and leave the funeral parlor when she saw a young Omega girl run out of the mourning hall next door—the one adjacent to Wei Ruicheng’s. She looked about eighteen or nineteen, just barely an adult. She seemed to be fleeing, and a few burly Alphas quickly emerged from the hall to hunt her down.
“What’s happening?” Lu Shen, in the back seat, hadn’t noticed the commotion outside.
“A little Omega ran into the Wei family’s hall,” An Zhaoyu lowered the car window, her eyes fixed on the scene. “Should we go check it out?” It didn’t look like anything good.
“Concerned?” Lu Shen unbuckled An Zhou’s seatbelt, her tone unreadable.
“No, no, no! Not concerned!” An Zhaoyu almost bit her tongue. When will I learn? My wife is still jealous.
“Let’s go see,” Lu Shen said. Most people had already left the Wei hall, leaving only Wei Qing and Wei Ruicheng’s widow. Lu Shen was worried and wanted to take a look.
“Okay,” An Zhaoyu shut up and followed her back inside. She glanced at the lanterns outside the neighboring hall. The surname was Jiang. In S-City, that wasn’t a prominent name; she’d never even heard of them. That hall was noisy and crowded, much livelier than the Wei family’s. An Zhaoyu shook her head. Wei Ruicheng, even in death, you’re losing face. Small families had more mourners than he did. It paid to be decent in life; otherwise, no one would even offer two sticks of incense when you’re gone. Being killed by your own son… the gossip was too ugly.
A cold wind blew by. Perhaps Wei Ruicheng was raging in the underworld. An Zhaoyu pulled Lu Shen closer, mentally telling the “ghostly things” to stay away from her wife and daughter.
Inside, Wei Qing was caught off guard by the intruders. Her Omega stepmother was asleep in the side lounge; she hadn’t slept since Wei Jinlin’s arrest, repeatedly begging Wei Qing to find a way to get him out early. Wei Qing had ignored her.
“Sister, save me!” A young Omega girl with a ponytail ran to Wei Qing, grabbing the hem of her suit jacket and kneeling. Her eyes were filled with unshed tears, her face pale, and her pink lips trembling. She wore a thin white mourning dress. She looked like a tiny flower swaying in a freezing wind—utterly pitiful.
Jiang Xingyu had fled from her mother’s funeral. She hadn’t known where to go, but yesterday she noticed this hall had the grandest presence. People had said this family wanted to book the entire parlor, which would have meant her mother being kicked out. She remembered it was this Omega in the suit who had refused the private booking. She felt a sense of gratitude toward this “Sister.” Perhaps her mother’s spirit was guiding her, because the moment she ran out, she saw her.
Wei Qing frowned slightly. Before she could speak, several Alphas in suits stormed in. Seeing it was the Wei family’s hall, they hesitated. “Our apologies, President Wei. The young lady of the house is throwing a tantrum. We’ve disturbed you.” They moved to seize Jiang Xingyu.
“Sister, Sister, I don’t want to go back! Mama is gone, and they want to sell me to someone else!” Jiang Xingyu gripped the jacket tighter, like a drowning person clutching a straw.
An Zhaoyu and Lu Shen entered just as the girl pleaded desperately at Wei Qing’s feet.
“Jiang Xingyu! What nonsense are you talking?!” An Alpha walked forward angrily, trying to yank her away from Wei Qing.
Well, isn’t this a coincidence? An Zhaoyu thought. The Alpha was Jiang Qizheng. He was from Z-City; what was he doing here? An Zhaoyu wanted to step in, but remembering the “jealousy” situation, she stayed by Lu Shen’s side to see what her wife would do.
“I’m not talking nonsense! They want to sell me to an Alpha in exchange for a business deal!” Jiang Xingyu twisted her shoulder to escape his grip, but her eyes never left Wei Qing. “Sister, please, save me.”
Jiang Qizheng’s face darkened, and he signaled his bodyguards. Wei Qing didn’t want to meddle. Having spent years in business, she could see this was a case of family misfortune, but there were too many such cases. She couldn’t handle them all and didn’t want to invite trouble.
Seeing Wei Qing’s indifference, the hope in Jiang Xingyu’s eyes flickered out. A second before the Alphas could grab her, she suddenly lunged with all her strength toward Wei Ruicheng’s coffin.
“You little brat, what are you doing?!” Jiang Qizheng panicked. If she damaged President Wei’s coffin, the Jiang family was finished.
Wei Qing, being the closest, reacted fastest. She blocked Jiang Xingyu’s head with her body. The impact knocked over Wei Ruicheng’s funeral portrait and sent the offerings on the table scattering across the floor.
“President Wei, I’m so sorry, so sorry!” Jiang Qizheng was terrified. He wanted to grab Jiang Xingyu but didn’t dare, as she was now in Wei Qing’s arms.
“Sister, don’t worry about me,” Jiang Xingyu said, her mind set on death. She forgot to apologize; she only felt that Wei Qing’s scent was wonderful. Dying in the arms of such a beautiful sister was better than being forcibly marked and locked up by an Alpha.
She had nearly been marked earlier. That Alpha had used pheromones to suppress her, trying to force her into heat. However, she was carrying the new inhibitor being promoted by the Wei family. It had fallen out during the scuffle, and Wei Qing saw it.
“If you want to die, do it at home! Stop making a scene in public!” Jiang Qizheng muttered, secretly eyeing Wei Qing. Why is an Omega running the Wei family?
Seeing his sleazy look, An Zhaoyu sneered. She knew exactly what was going through that Alpha’s head.
“Calm down first. We can talk,” Wei Qing finally spoke. Not many Omegas bought the new inhibitors yet—partly due to the price, and partly because people didn’t yet realize the difference between this and traditional inhibitors. Seeing the girl with it felt like a twist of fate.
“Sister, are you willing to save me?” Hope returned to Jiang Xingyu’s eyes. “I’ll do anything for you. I’ll repay you, I promise.”
Anything? Wei Qing caught the looks Lu Shen and An Zhaoyu were giving her from the doorway and felt a sudden awkwardness. “Tell me what happened first.”
“President Wei, this—” Jiang Qizheng started, but An Zhaoyu interrupted.
“Oh? Isn’t this a member of the Area 1 flight team?”
Jiang Qizheng turned around, his expression turning quite colorful when he saw her. “Captain… An? Why are you here?”
“I’m from S-City. I should be asking you that. Why are you here?”
“I’m… attending a relative’s funeral,” Jiang Qizheng said, feeling like he’d been caught cheating. He had just been thinking about how attractive Wei Qing was, only to run into An Zhaoyu.
“What relative?” Once An Zhaoyu encountered a team member, she instinctively switched into interrogation mode.
“Stepmother,” Jiang Qizheng wiped a non-existent bead of sweat from his forehead. Once he encountered An Zhaoyu, he instinctively switched into “being interrogated” mode.
“She’s not a stepmother! Your mother is the one who’s a stepmother!” Jiang Xingyu, still huddled in Wei Qing’s arms, refused to let go. “Sister, he’s the illegitimate son my father kept outside. Mama only had me.”
This is a mini-version of Wei Qing, Lu Shen thought. She looked at the stoic Wei Qing and tilted her head slightly, her eyes asking: Are you going to take care of this kid?
My wife is so cute. Why doesn’t she tilt her head at me? An Zhaoyu thought, reaching out to straighten Lu Shen’s head.
Jiang Qizheng was speechless, wishing he could just gag Jiang Xingyu. Hearing this, Wei Qing’s expression softened. She despised mistresses and illegitimate children—and most of all, “scum” Alphas who two-timed.
“Stay here for now,” Wei Qing comforted the girl, then ordered someone to clean up the hall. Her “cheap” father couldn’t even have peace after death; it was his karma.
“Oh, so you’re an illegitimate son!” An Zhaoyu said, enlightened. “No wonder. You kept pursuing me in the team even though I was already married to Dr. Lu. Does the talent for being a ‘homewrecker’ run in the family?”
Jiang Qizheng was utterly humiliated, and his hatred for Jiang Xingyu reached a new peak.
“I get it. Comrade Jiang just wants to give a home to every Omega in the world without an Alpha, right?” An Zhaoyu’s tongue was lethal when she let it loose. “But I suggest you learn from President Wei and just donate your glands. You’re only one person, but your pheromones can be divided into many portions.”
Lu Shen let her rampage, because she was right. Jiang Xingyu let out a small laugh through her tears. This sister is really good at insulting people.
Wei Qing’s brow twitched. She felt like Wei Ruicheng’s coffin was about to start shaking.
“Captain…” Jiang Qizheng pleaded, his dignity in shreds.
“Can’t take it? Didn’t you say you’d risk your life for me? We’ve barely started. Too weak,” An Zhaoyu completely exposed him, fearing Wei Qing might be tricked by him. Jiang Qizheng realized he couldn’t win. He beat a hasty retreat with his guards.
“Planning to help?” Lu Shen asked directly. Jiang Xingyu looked at Wei Qing nervously.
“Let’s hear the story first,” Wei Qing said. Her back was hurting from the impact of the collision. Jiang Xingyu noticed and immediately apologized, beginning to massage Wei Qing’s waist while explaining her situation.
It was a familiar story: a “scum” Alpha father had one family inside and one outside. When Jiang Xingyu’s mother died in a “car accident,” the outside family moved in, and she was sold to a business partner.
“Another car accident,” An Zhaoyu muttered. “So many accidents. Are you sure your dad didn’t have your mom murdered too?”
“Ah…” Jiang Xingyu was stunned; she hadn’t considered that.
“Who did your father sell you to?” Wei Qing asked. Jiang Xingyu named an Alpha who was quite infamous in their circles. It was disgusting, but not uncommon. Wei Qing was calculating the cost of taking her away.
“Sister, I have great grades. I can definitely get into a good university. If you save me, I’ll do anything you want. I’ll listen to you forever,” Jiang Xingyu pleaded.
“Even being her wife?” An Zhaoyu gossiped. Lu Shen pinched her waist. “Hiss—!” She behaved.
“Being a wife,” An Zhou repeated from Lu Shen’s arms. The baby was very good at picking out key words.
“I… I can do that too,” Jiang Xingyu stammered, her face turning bright red. She was too embarrassed to keep massaging Wei Qing’s waist and couldn’t look her in the eye.
“Don’t talk nonsense. I’ll talk to your family first,” Wei Qing said, remaining composed.
“For real? Jiang Qizheng is an illegitimate son?” Wen Yuncheng was a natural loudspeaker. By the end of the morning, everyone in Flight Areas 1 and 2 knew the truth.
Jiang Qizheng wanted to disappear, but he could do nothing to An Zhaoyu. In terms of wealth, the Jiangs were no match for the Ans; in terms of skill, he was no match for her. He finally gave up on her. Such a terrifying Omega is too much to handle. Let Lu Shen have her.
However, he then turned his sights on the gentler-looking Wei Qing. An unmarried Omega running the massive Wei family? It was a “phoenix” Alpha’s dream.
“Captain, are you trying to force me out of the team?” he asked An Zhaoyu, eyes red, acting like the victim. He figured he could go back and be the Jiang heir now anyway; anyone could be a pilot, but if he could stain An Zhaoyu’s reputation for “bullying” a teammate on the way out, all the better.
“Jiang Qizheng, don’t blame me for your lack of skill,” An Zhaoyu said, her eyes turning redder than his. “Is ‘love turned to hate’ really that simple? Just because I’m stronger than you, you want to frame me for forcing you out? Fine. I’m resigning as Area 1 Captain.”
She ripped off her captain’s badge and threw it at Wen Yuncheng.
“???” Jiang Qizheng was stunned. He didn’t expect her to out-act him. An Omega with red eyes was far more pitiable than a “scum” Alpha. “Green tea” Alphas were hated by everyone.
“Don’t, Captain!” The Alphas of Area 1 were furious. No Alpha had passed the captain’s exam yet; if she left, Area 1 might be disbanded! Before his resignation letter could even be drafted, Jiang Qizheng was jumped by his teammates. He truly scurried out of the medical center in disgrace.
“Captain, come back! We need you!” the Alphas pleaded.
“No,” An Zhaoyu was firm. She had finally found an excuse to leave the Area 1 position; why would she go back? “With so many Alphas, can’t even one of you be captain? What about Blacky? Didn’t you want to be captain?”
Blacky, who had been hiding in the corner after seeing Jiang Qizheng’s fate, broke into a cold sweat. He realized An Zhaoyu held a grudge. “I can’t do it, Captain.”
“How can an Alpha say he ‘can’t’?” An Zhaoyu’s tone wasn’t even sarcastic. She didn’t care who led Area 1; she announced she was forming a new team.
“Captain, why?” Everyone was confused. She controlled Areas 1 and 2, yet she wanted to start fresh. Only Wen Yuncheng remained silent. He knew. The Captain wanted an all-Omega flight team.
“No reason. Alphas lead Alphas, Omegas lead Omegas. Isn’t that natural?” An Zhaoyu’s smile was radiant as she opened her palm. It was a purple badge—a new team insignia she had just secured from HR. “From now on, Omegas will have their own team.”
The room went silent.
“Wen Yuncheng will be the Area 2 Captain; he’s passed the exam,” An Zhaoyu commanded. She had brought honor to the medical center, which gave her leverage. Before her win, she would have been talked out of this by leadership. Now, she could do as she pleased. The leaders were afraid she’d leave, so the badge was issued with unprecedented speed.
“Captain, will you only lead Area 3 now?” a teammate asked. “No.” Just as they breathed a sigh of relief, she added: “Area 1 will become Area 3. My team will be Area 1,” she said confidently, pinning the purple badge to her chest. “I will only lead Area 1.”
Alphas had held the “Area 1” title for too long. An Zhaoyu was petty about such details. Omegas wouldn’t be the “third” gender; they would be first. Many Alphas were unhappy, but no one could oppose her.
“Look, Lu Shen! Does my new uniform look good?” As soon as she got home, An Zhaoyu paraded in front of Lu Shen in her new purple gear.
She had put a lot of heart into this design. Areas 2 and 3 were white with blue and red accents, respectively. Her uniform was white but featured red patterns on the left arm and blue on the right, which merged into purple in the center. It matched her flamboyant personality perfectly. She twirled like a butterfly.
“It looks good,” Lu Shen said seriously, then asked the baby, “Xiao Zhou, does Mama look pretty?” “Pretty!” An Zhou balled her fists, looking enviously at the uniform. Why didn’t she have one?
An Zhaoyu beamed. She kissed the baby, but when it was Lu Shen’s turn, Lu Shen only gave her a side profile. How can the wife and baby be treated the same? An Zhaoyu wanted a proper kiss.
The baby watched as her mother acted even more clingy than she did. She sat on the floor to play with her toys, unable to watch the display.
“Lu Shen, still jealous?” An Zhaoyu loved Lu Shen when she was like this. “No,” Lu Shen dodged her. “Your mouth is so stubborn. It’ll only get soft if I kiss it more.” An Zhaoyu pinned her down on the sofa, holding her hands above her head.
Lu Shen thought it was just play, but the mood shifted. The scent of narcissus filled the room. Her lips were kissed red, her body felt warm and soft. Her hand was pulled to the collar of the new uniform.
“Lu Shen, help me,” An Zhaoyu whispered breathlessly in her ear. This was a scene from her dreams; surely it wasn’t too much to make it real?
“Xiao Zhou…” Lu Shen glanced at the little figure on the floor. An Zhaoyu reached for the remote and turned the TV to the baby’s favorite cartoon. “Lu Shen, this episode is forty minutes long. Let’s see who can hold back their voice the longest, okay?”
