After the Demon Lord Lost His Memory, He Became the Immortal Venerable's Dao Companion - Chapter 22
“In that case, my dear wife, give me a kiss.”
Qi Yan spread his hands and looked at them. There were still traces of damp perspiration on his palms.
In his mind, there seemed to be a voice secretly warning him not to tell Shen Yuzong about the things he saw in his dreams. He had an intuition that Shen Yuzong was hiding something from him. Every time he brought up the reason for his memory loss, Shen Yuzong would evade the subject and talk about something else.
Qi Yan had lost his memory, but he had not become a fool. He could tell that Shen Yuzong simply did not want to tell him. As for the reason, he did not know yet.
The sky outside was not yet bright. Through the green netting, Qi Yan gazed at the blurred world outside. For the past month, he and Shen Yuzong had stayed right here. Apart from attending the gathering with Yin Pin and the others a few days ago, the two of them had basically not left the small courtyard at all.
Shen Yuzong lowered his eyes, observing the expression on Qi Yan’s face. Little liar, what are you trying to hide from me again?
Shen Yuzong reached out to brush aside the hair clinging to the corner of Qi Yan’s eyes and held him tighter. Qi Yan did not know what kind of madness had taken hold of Shen Yuzong; he was almost unable to breathe from being held by Shen Yuzong’s iron-like arms. It was hellish; he had never seen anyone hold another person the way Shen Yuzong did.
“What are you doing?” Qi Yan asked irritably.
Shen Yuzong lowered his head until their faces were close, resting the tip of his nose against the side of Qi Yan’s ear, rubbing it gently. He kept his eyes downcast, using his eyelashes to hide all the gloominess in his gaze.
“Zhuzhu, I really love you. I love you so much. Do you know that?”
Qi Yan just assumed Shen Yuzong was having another episode. He shrank inward, burying his entire body in Shen Yuzong’s embrace. He kept his head down and did not respond, yet he indulged Shen Yuzong with his actions.
Shen Yuzong chuckled softly, pressing his scar against the cool, soft skin of Qi Yan’s neck and shoulder. Feeling the pulse beating within the other’s flesh and listening to the real, steady breathing of the person beside him, the restlessness in his heart finally eased a little.
He was afraid of scaring Qi Yan, yet at the same time, he could not control some of his excessive behaviors. It could only be described as the aftermath of recovering something he once lost.
Noticing Shen Yuzong’s silence, Qi Yan assumed that Shen Yuzong was pushing his luck and was dissatisfied with his lack of response. Therefore, he turned around, reached out to cup Shen Yuzong’s face, and lightly pressed a damp kiss onto his cheek.
Shen Yuzong was momentarily stunned. He grabbed the hand Qi Yan was trying to pull back and buried the lower half of his face entirely into that soft palm, breathing deeply, inhaling the fragrance emanating from Qi Yan’s skin.
Looking at the intact half of Shen Yuzong’s side profile, Qi Yan, in a moment of unthinking impulse, did not immediately pull his hand back as he usually did. He stared at Shen Yuzong’s pale skin and could not help but wonder what Shen Yuzong would have looked like if his face had not been ruined.
He immediately answered himself: he would definitely look cheeky and be even more annoying than he was now.
After lingering in bed for a while, Shen Yuzong carried Qi Yan off the bed, picked out his clothes for the day, and crouched on the floor to put Qi Yan’s shoes on for him. It was the same routine as usual, the only difference being that Shen Yuzong did not make breakfast today.
It is easy to go from frugality to luxury, but difficult to go from luxury to frugality. Qi Yan did not realize that he had been raised to be quite lazy over these past few days. Every day, upon waking, he was clothed and fed by others; the only hardship he endured was Shen Yuzong’s teasing. Now, seeing that Shen Yuzong had not taken him to the courtyard for a meal, he did not say anything, but a faint trace of annoyance lingered on his face.
Yet, Qi Yan remained completely oblivious to it.
Shen Yuzong found this both helpless and amusing. He tidied Qi Yan’s long hair and gathered him into his arms. “I will take you out to play today. Let us go stroll in the street. Whatever you want to eat, your husband will buy for you.”
“Who wants to eat! I am not hungry.” Qi Yan, having his hidden thoughts exposed, was somewhat angry.
“Then let us just say I want to eat, how about that?” During this time, Shen Yuzong had been putting great effort into their meals, not only using the finest ingredients but also infusing them with spiritual energy to nourish Qi Yan’s meridians. Fortunately, the results were significant; Qi Yan was much chubbier than when he had first woken up. With good circulation, he looked even younger.
Shen Yuzong could not resist reaching out to pinch the soft flesh on Qi Yan’s cheek. Qi Yan immediately bristled and swatted Shen Yuzong’s hand away.
The reason Shen Yuzong settled in demon territory was twofold: first, because Qi Yan himself was a demon, and second, because it was far from both the cultivation sects and the Demon Realm. On the other hand, it was very convenient to travel to the human world from there.
Shen Yuzong followed behind Qi Yan as they stepped out of the courtyard, and he reached out to cover Qi Yan’s eyes. Qi Yan did not move; his eyelashes fluttered against Shen Yuzong’s palm, feeling very ticklish.
Do you trust me that much?
Shen Yuzong felt secretly proud while simultaneously feeling frustrated that Qi Yan had absolutely no sense of precaution. After waiting for a long time without any movement from the person behind him, Qi Yan wanted to reach up and push away the hand covering his eyes. Before he could move, Shen Yuzong spoke, “Do not move.”
Heh, “do not move” every single day. Are we playing Red Light, Green Light? Qi Yan grumbled in his heart but obediently lowered his hands.
“Zhuzhu, count to ten in your heart, then open your eyes. Shall I give you a surprise?” Shen Yuzong leaned in, gently flicking the earring hanging from Qi Yan’s earlobe.
Qi Yan did not answer, but he did not push Shen Yuzong away either. He earnestly counted to ten in his heart, and even added a few extra counts just in case, fearing the time would not be enough.
“Is it ready?”
Shen Yuzong did not respond, silently withdrawing his hand.
Qi Yan opened his eyes, his face full of confusion. Is this not still the courtyard?
Qi Yan turned his head to look at Shen Yuzong strangely, seeing no reaction from him. He suspected that Shen Yuzong had cast a concealment spell on him, so he turned back to examine his surroundings carefully. But after looking for a long time without finding anything, Qi Yan frowned, “Is this not still in…”
Before he could finish his sentence, Qi Yan suddenly felt an arm wrap around his waist, and his whole body was suddenly suspended in the air.
Shen Yuzong had taken him and was flying. The momentary sensation of weightlessness made Qi Yan instinctively reach out to hold onto Shen Yuzong. Shen Yuzong took advantage of the situation and seized the chance to get what he wanted. Qi Yan immediately understood that there had been no concealment spell; Shen Yuzong was simply playing a trick on him!
“Shen Yuzong! You did that on purpose, did you not?”
Shen Yuzong feigned ignorance. “How could I dare? I am too busy trying to coax you. Do you not agree, Zhuzhu?”
Qi Yan was furious and wanted to hit him. Shen Yuzong, having skin thicker than a city wall, pretended to loosen his grip, scaring Qi Yan into clutching his neck tightly.
Qi Yan asked, “What are you doing?”
“Nothing. It is just that my hands feel a bit sore.” Shen Yuzong trailed off, acting mysterious.
Qi Yan naturally did not believe his excuse, but being under someone else’s roof, he had to lower his head.
“Then what should we do?”
“Then what should we do…” Shen Yuzong mimicked Qi Yan’s tone, dragging out the last syllable, looking like a total rogue. “In that case, my dear wife, give me a kiss.”
“What!” Shen Yuzong had thoroughly pushed the boundaries of Qi Yan’s patience; it was a miracle that someone could be so obsessed with that sort of thing every single day!
Shen Yuzong looked dejected and moved his hands slightly. “Sigh, I did not expect you to be so heartless, Zhuzhu. I take care of your every need every single day without a word of complaint, and now, you are so reluctant to even give me a kiss?”
“And you even said you would not abandon me in the future.”
Qi Yan was so angry his teeth itched, but he could not do anything about Shen Yuzong. He closed his eyes, wanting to get it over with quickly.
Shen Yuzong laughed, cupping the back of Qi Yan’s head, and manually redirected the kiss that was intended for his cheek onto his lips instead.
Qi Yan sensed something was wrong and opened his eyes, but it was already too late; his hands and feet had been pinned down.
It was sticky and lingering; Qi Yan’s tongue felt numb. It was not until he was out of breath that Shen Yuzong finally let him go.
Once they landed at the foot of a mountain, Qi Yan broke free from Shen Yuzong’s embrace and slapped him across the face. He ignored the man, leaving Shen Yuzong behind as he walked forward alone.
Shen Yuzong followed immediately, like an annoying person who, after being scolded a hundred times, still stubbornly follows behind to stir up trouble. Shen Yuzong, of course, knew his wife’s temper, sharp tongue and soft heart. With his schemes undying, he reached out to hold Qi Yan’s hand again.
Qi Yan swung his hand away forcefully, but he reached out again. The swinging and holding back and forth eventually made Qi Yan’s arm sore. Shen Yuzong took this opportunity to slip his fingers between Qi Yan’s, interlacing them, palm pressed against palm.
“I knew you loved me the most, right, Zhuzhu?”
Qi Yan ignored him.
“It is just a kiss, is it not? It is not like we have not kissed before, why be so angry?”
“I do not want to talk to you!”
Shen Yuzong was amused; since you have already said you do not want to talk, does that not count as talking?
