After the Demon Lord Lost His Memory, He Became the Immortal Venerable's Dao Companion - Chapter 15
“So, does that mean you like me, Zhuzhu?”
“Brother Shen, long time no see.”
Shen Yuzong stopped with Qi Yan and retrieved a handkerchief from his storage ring to wipe the sweat from Qi Yan’s forehead.
“Do you not knock before entering?”
Yin Ji: “…”
I knocked on your door for an entire quarter of an hour outside, but you were too busy practicing your intimate sword dance with your Dao companion in the courtyard to notice.
“I did knock. Brother Shen must not have heard.” Yin Ji said with a gentle smile, his tone radiating understanding.
“Oh.” Shen Yuzong replied nonchalantly.
Qi Yan tilted his head to look at Yin Ji. He could smell it; this man must also be of the demon race.
Noticing Qi Yan’s inquisitive gaze, Yin Ji took the initiative to speak. “I presume this must be Brother Shen’s Dao companion.”
Qi Yan did not reply directly, but out of politeness, he asked, “And you are?”
“I am Yin Ji, the Young Master of the Fox Clan. I have come today because we are holding a banquet tomorrow to celebrate my elder sister’s wedding. I would like to invite the two of you to attend.”
Yin Ji and Shen Yuzong were old acquaintances, so he naturally knew Shen Yuzong’s difficult temperament.
On the surface, he was righteous and cared for the world, but in reality, he was devious, sharp-tongued, and seemed terrified of the prospect of not offending someone. Still, Yin Ji extended the invitation out of courtesy.
“Do you want to go?” Shen Yuzong tucked a stray lock of hair behind Qi Yan’s ear.
Yin Ji’s smile stiffened. He truly wished the group of old men who prided themselves on being righteous orthodox practitioners could see Shen Yuzong’s current state.
Is having a wife that impressive? Is it really necessary to be so shameless in public? And he, an innocent passerby, had to suffer through watching this.
“Let us go. Staying home all day is so boring.”
Shen Yuzong was delighted by the word home, so he naturally agreed.
“Why are you still standing there?”
Yin Ji gritted his teeth and nodded. “Very well. Then I shall not disturb you further, Brother Shen. I will take my leave.”
After Yin Ji left, Shen Yuzong’s smile vanished.
“Zhuzhu, is he handsome?”
Qi Yan, completely unaware, pondered the question seriously before answering. “He is quite handsome, yes. Why do you ask?”
“Heh.”
“You were practically staring at him, Zhuzhu.”
Heaven is my witness; Qi Yan had only looked at Yin Ji a few times during their brief exchange. Should one not look at the person they are speaking with?
“Shen Yuzong, are you having one of your episodes again?”
Shen Yuzong shrugged. His expression remained unchanged, but his tone was filled with irony. “I suppose so. He is so handsome, and as for me.”
Qi Yan could not bear to hear Shen Yuzong continue his self-deprecating act.
He reached up, rested his hands on Shen Yuzong’s shoulders, and pressed a light kiss to his cheek.
Shen Yuzong’s prepared speech cut off instantly. The warm sensation lingered on his skin. Qi Yan’s kiss was so light, like a passing breeze, leaving only a faint itch behind.
Shen Yuzong gazed at Qi Yan, who stood there looking casually in both directions, his ears turned completely red.
Feeling Shen Yuzong’s eyes lingering on his face, Qi Yan could not help but explain, “Is that enough now? I do not even like him, so why are you comparing yourself to him?”
Shen Yuzong chuckled, reached out to pull Qi Yan into his arms by the shoulders, and teased, “So, does that mean you like me, Zhuzhu?”
“I never said that.” Qi Yan muttered, looking down at the floor.
Shen Yuzong heard him clearly and playfully pinched Qi Yan’s cheek.
“Getting my lady to say she likes her husband is harder than ascending to heaven.”
The next morning.
Shen Yuzong chose a goose-yellow gauze garment for Qi Yan, complete with a matching silver waist chain.
He had Qi Yan sit before the dressing table, gathered all his loose hair into one hand, and braided it into three strands.
Qi Yan propped himself up on the dressing table, looking at the mirror in boredom and occasionally poking the surface with his finger.
“Why are you so skilled at styling hair?”
Ever since Qi Yan woke up, Shen Yuzong had been the one picking out his clothes, and naturally, he was also entirely responsible for his hair.
“Because I used to style your hair in the past, too.”
That was a lie. He never even managed to seize the opportunity to confess his feelings back then.
However, during the days Qi Yan was comatose, Shen Yuzong had nothing else to do, so he could only brush Qi Yan’s hair from root to tip over and over again.
“Oh.”
The tail of the braid brushed against Qi Yan’s lower legs. Shen Yuzong looked it over and then led Qi Yan by the hand to a full-length mirror.
“Do you like it, Zhuzhu?” Shen Yuzong pressed his lips behind Qi Yan’s ear, watching his every expression.
Qi Yan tilted his head, and his braid hit Shen Yuzong’s clothes with a soft sound.
Shen Yuzong stepped back.
Qi Yan looked down at his hem, spun around once in the mirror, and the silver ornaments on his waist chain swayed, chiming softly.
Shen Yuzong folded his arms and could not help but laugh.
Qi Yan stopped and looked at Shen Yuzong curiously. “What are you laughing at?”
“I was not laughing.”
“I clearly heard you laugh!”
Seeing Shen Yuzong’s mischievous face, Qi Yan grew irritated again. He walked over and grabbed Shen Yuzong by the collar.
“Were you laughing at me just now?”
Shen Yuzong pursed his lips and spread his hands innocently. “No.”
Qi Yan’s face turned cold, his cheeks flushed pink with annoyance.
“You were laughing!”
Shen Yuzong stepped back, lifting his lips. “How was I laughing? What evidence do you have that I was laughing, Zhuzhu?”
Qi Yan pulled at Shen Yuzong’s collar, taking a step forward.
Suddenly, Shen Yuzong collapsed onto the bed, reaching out to hold Qi Yan’s waist. Their positions reversed, and Shen Yuzong pinned Qi Yan’s wrists down.
“Zhuzhu is so delicate. Is your husband not even allowed to smile?”
Shen Yuzong narrowed his eyes and pressed his lips to Qi Yan’s chest.
Qi Yan shivered uncontrollably. Even through layers of gauze, that scorching heat felt as if it were branding his skin.
“How could you do this!”
“Do what?”
Qi Yan realized what he had just done, shifted his gaze away, and refused to look at Shen Yuzong anymore.
I must have been infected by Shen Yuzong. Otherwise, why would I have acted so foolishly.
