After the Corporate Slave Beta and the Top Alpha Married - Chapter 27
Ji Yu sat in the room holding a book, the pages still stuck on the first one, having not moved for a long while. Any slight rustle outside the door caught his attention; he was as tense as a tightly wound string.
This was Shang Yuanzhou’s room. Although it hadn’t been lived in for a while, it was still clean and tidy. The rooms in the villa were large, and the master bedroom was the biggest of them all. Desk, coffee table, armchair, small bookshelf it had everything, but the most conspicuous item was the massive bed.
While Ji Yu had shared a dorm room in college, it was always separate beds. This was the first time in his life he was to share a bed with someone else. Just the thought of it kept him rigid.
Thud. Ji Yu snapped the book shut.
His long, slender fingers pressed against the cover. His hand spanned from the top edge across the entire image, resting on the book jacket.
Calm down, Ji Yu.
You’re a Beta. This is just acting. Being this nervous is too strange.
Back in school, as long as no Omegas were involved, guys sleeping in the same space was perfectly normal. Male Betas tend toward the “upper” status and don’t have a reproductive cavity for pregnancy, so even squeezing in or mixing with Alphas wasn’t unheard of. It was just that Ji Yu was used to keeping his distance; he had never actually slept beside anyone.
Click.
With a soft sound, the doorknob turned, and footsteps approached.
“Ji Yu.”
Ji Yu stood up with a start.
The corners of Shang Yuanzhou’s lips twitched upward before he hid the smile. “You don’t need to be nervous.”
Wife is so cute.
Ji Yu felt deeply embarrassed. He turned his head slightly, but he couldn’t hide the flush spreading across his snow-pale face. He sat back down. “Maybe it’s because facing Uncle Yu today felt like facing a teacher back in school. When you suddenly called my name, I felt like I was being called on in class a total reflex.”
Shang Yuanzhou: “Why did you feel that way?”
He had thought Ji Yu was mostly nervous about the two of them sleeping together.
Actually, it was both, but a bashful Ji Yu wasn’t about to say that. Since he didn’t know what the man was thinking, he just answered directly: “Uncle Yu is very solemn. That stern look of his is just like a teacher.”
Strict, archaic, and severe it made one’s heart falter instinctively.
Shang Yuanzhou thought for a moment and unceremoniously exposed Uncle Yu’s background to his wife: “That whole act of his is actually fake.”
“Uncle Yu never worked as a butler before. I wanted him to enjoy a peaceful retirement, but he couldn’t stay idle. We couldn’t find anything suitable for him to do, so he simply became the butler.”
“The people who used to work at the villa didn’t say it to his face, but they didn’t respect him in private. They mocked him for his rural roots and lack of education, laughing at his behavior and saying he had no idea how to be a butler.”
Ji Yu’s interest was piqued. As he listened, he began to relax and asked, “And then?”
Shang Yuanzhou sat down beside him and raised an eyebrow. “At first, he just watched TV dramas to see how butlers acted how they stood, how they sat, how they dressed. A butler’s role in a drama might not even total an episode, but he’d watch the whole series just for those few scenes. After dozens of shows, he actually managed to learn enough to look the part.”
He chuckled. “Once you two get to know each other, you might find you have a lot in common.”
Ji Yu’s eyes widened in shock. “I knew it! No wonder the things Uncle Yu said today were so strange yet so familiar!”
He slapped his thigh. “Then when I was acting in front of him today, didn’t he also find me strange yet mysteriously familiar?”
How could it not be familiar? The two of them were following the same script.
Shang Yuanzhou reached up to pinch the bridge of his nose. Noticing the gesture, Ji Yu hesitated before speaking: “Are you sleepy? Should we…”
“How about I sleep on the flo”
Whoosh. The world spun, and Ji Yu was pressed down onto the soft bed.
The bed was large and very plush; Ji Yu felt as if he were sinking into it. A man was half-propped over him, powerful arms braced on either side of his body, like a cage made of flesh and bone.
Shang Yuanzhou leaned down, bringing his face close to Ji Yu’s ear. Their distance closed until his scorching, hot breath spilled over Ji Yu’s ear, turning the pale earlobe a blood-like red.
“Shh.”
A finger pressed lightly against Ji Yu’s lips. When it was removed, it seemed to brush against them almost inadvertently.
Ji Yu’s heart skipped a beat at the sudden move. He was so startled his mind was full of question marks, and he didn’t even notice the small gesture.
Shang Yuanzhou lowered his voice to a raspy, deep whisper: “This room hasn’t been checked yet, so…”
Ji Yu’s eyes instantly went as wide as a cat’s. He leaned closer to Shang Yuanzhou, whispering into his ear: “Surely they wouldn’t just leave this one alone, would they?!”
“Those people are too perverted! Do they really install cameras in the bedroom? What could they even want to see in a bedroom? Do they want to spy on us…”?
Ji Yu sucked in a breath, repeatedly muttering about how perverted it was. Wealthy family feuds were truly beyond the imagination of normal people. It was simply… perverted!
Still, in the CEO dramas he watched, there were often plots where others tried to spy on the lead’s fake marriage. Is this a case of art reflecting life?
Shang Yuanzhou gripped his waist and gave it a reassuring pat. “Alright, don’t be afraid. Tomorrow I’ll find a reason to have the place thoroughly swept. Let’s sleep for tonight.”
“I’ve been too busy; I didn’t think of this during the day.” He stood up. “I’ll shower first. You go to sleep.”
The light soon turned on in the ensuite bathroom. Ji Yu propped himself up on the bed and slowly crawled under the covers. After a moment, a pair of eyes peeked out from the blanket, darting left and right, wary of everything. Fearing he couldn’t hide his expression, he shrank back inside.
The sound of the shower was quite hypnotic, but Ji Yu was in no mood for sleep. When Shang Yuanzhou emerged from the bathroom, Ji Yu even quickly lifted a corner of the quilt.
A posture of invitation.
Shang Yuanzhou’s Adam’s apple bobbed. He swallowed repeatedly to suppress the increasingly dangerous thoughts in his mind. He approached step by step, his footsteps light, his heartbeat heavy.
Shang Yuanzhou lay down beside Ji Yu, his posture straight, leaving a small gap between them. “Sleep.”
Faint rustling sounds came from beside him. A warm body moved closer bit by bit, and then Shang Yuanzhou’s shoulder dipped slightly as a soft face pressed against it.
Ji Yu had leaned in.
His voice was soft, almost as if he were burying his head in Shang Yuanzhou’s chest. “Why didn’t you turn off the bedside lamp?”
“If there’s a camera, won’t they get suspicious if we sleep with such a clear line between us?”
“Wait… do cameras have night vision too?” Ji Yu sighed softly, feeling quite conflicted. “How about… how about… how about you hold me tonight while we sleep?”
Shang Yuanzhou almost wanted to sigh.
Wife, you are too naive.
Shang Yuanzhou, who once stood on the outside himself, had only moved a little closer to find such an adorable side to Ji Yu. He got up to turn off the lamp, and when he lay back down, he gripped Ji Yu’s waist and pulled him into his arms.
Fall in love with me soon, wife. I’m almost losing the heart to keep this up.
Ji Yu lay stiffly in Shang Yuanzhou’s embrace, blinking slowly. On one hand, he felt no one could be perverted enough to bug a bedroom; on the other hand, he had found a camera in that living room clock.
Being tucked so intimately against Shang Yuanzhou was very unfamiliar. “A-Zhou, after your fake marriage to me, have those people made any moves?”
“The Ding family, who I had the engagement with, caused some trouble in the business sector. I’ve pushed them back.”
“I see.”
A large hand covered Ji Yu’s eyes, and Shang Yuanzhou’s deep, calm voice came from above: “Sleep.”
Ji Yu originally thought he wouldn’t be able to sleep, but that hand remained over his eyes, blocking the light and creating a pitch-black environment. Eventually, he drifted off.
The person who claimed to be sleeping was the one truly wide awake.
Sensing the steady breathing of the person in his arms, Shang Yuanzhou removed his hand to reveal Ji Yu’s sleeping face. A top-tier Alpha’s vision allowed him to see clearly in the dark.
The fair face was pressed slightly against him, squishing a bit of cheek fat. The lips were very soft; Shang Yuanzhou couldn’t resist reaching out to toy with them. He could feel the warmth and moisture of the mouth just a fraction away. His finger twitched, but he didn’t probe inside; instead, he lingered on the lips, rubbing them gently.
Even though he desperately wanted to reach in and play with that tender tongue, he remained restrained. Shang Yuanzhou leaned in with a sigh, placing a feather-light kiss on Ji Yu’s forehead.
You trust people too easily, wife. Do you sleep so boldly in another man’s bed because you think no one would want a Beta? You even moved in closer, crawling into an Alpha’s arms.
Shang Yuanzhou held him a little tighter, one leg pressing between Ji Yu’s. Tomorrow, he would let his wife know that he was also a man with normal needs. Simply “simmering the frog in warm water” would only result in being pinned firmly in the “friend” category.
Tension and release, advance and retreat that was the proper way to catch a fish.
Morning sunlight filtered through the gaps in the curtains. Underneath his thin eyelids, Ji Yu’s eyes moved, struggling on the edge of wakefulness.
He slowly opened his eyes and went to get up, only to find a hand firmly welded to his waist. He looked down and realized he was clinging to Shang Yuanzhou like an octopus. He had even gone so far as to hook a leg over Shang Yuanzhou’s.
My sleeping posture?! Is it really this bad?
Ji Yu’s face flushed a brilliant red. He tried to get up without waking Shang Yuanzhou, but as soon as he moved, he froze, gritting his teeth.
He had been bumped heavily by a knee, and the “little fish” that hadn’t played in a long time poked its head out to say hello almost instantly. Worse still… on his leg…
Ji Yu’s face went from a light blush to a fully ripe peach that would leak juice at a single poke.
What on earth! It’s terrifyingly hot!
Ji Yu no longer cared if he woke Shang Yuanzhou; he scrambled out of bed.
The handsome man on the bed knit his brows, looking as if he were about to be woken up. “Ji Yu?”
The man sat up, his shirt slightly agape looking as if it had been rubbed open revealing a large expanse of beautifully muscled chest. Having just woken up, he was still in a dazed, sleepy state. “What’s wrong?”
Ji Yu’s ears were a deep shade of crimson. He stood by the bed with his back to the man, his clothes a mess, and spoke in a garbled voice: “No… nothing. Getting up to use the bathroom.”
How could Ji Yu possibly admit that he had been clinging to the man in his sleep and triggered a physiological reaction in both of them?! Morning wood was a common occurrence; as long as he didn’t speak, Shang Yuanzhou wouldn’t think much of it.
Ji Yu silently apologized to the “innocent” Shang Yuanzhou and fled into the bathroom with a face so red it looked like it was bleeding.
