After the Cannon Fodder Awakens, They Marry the Heroine! - Chapter 3
“Wen Runan,” Li Mo read the name aloud, syllable by syllable. “She is the Female Lead of this small world? Can I get her destiny power by killing her?”
“No, you can’t!” 033 cried out sharply, then quietly softened its voice. “Master, you only need to plunder the Male Lead’s destiny power. He is the one favored by the World Consciousness.”
“So, that means I can,” Li Mo stared at Wen Runan’s two-inch photo for a long time. Compared to Li Beichen, solving a powerless ordinary person would be much easier.
“Master, killing people here is against the law…” 033 was genuinely close to tears. It was just an ordinary system; it hadn’t done anything evil. How had it ended up in the hands of this Great Demon King?
“Against the law?” Li Mo’s finger lightly tapped the desk as she narrowed her eyes. “Then I’ll do it quietly. I’ll do the killing, and you clean up and handle the surveillance footage.”
033’s words did not dissuade Li Mo’s intentions. All she wanted was destiny power, whether it belonged to the Male Lead or the Female Lead; ultimately, it would be hers.
The place Wen Runan lived was not far from the company. Li Mo left work punctually, drove around to shake off the ‘flies’ following her, and then drove straight to the community where the other woman lived.
At this time, Wen Runan had just parked her small electric scooter and was carrying groceries she had bought from the supermarket, ready to go home.
As she walked toward the apartment building entrance, Wen Runan keenly spotted someone standing inside. Although the person only showed a partial back view and a side profile, based on her rich experience in judging people, she was certain that the person’s full face must be beautiful!
“Hi, are you looking for someone?” The helpful Wen Runan took the initiative to greet her.
Li Mo turned to the side, and the smiling Wen Runan walked right into her line of sight.
“I am,” Li Mo offered a faint smile, scanning Wen Runan from head to toe, finally stopping her gaze on the fair, slender neck. “I’m looking for someone.”
Wow, a beautiful Jie Jie (Older Sister)! Look at that slender waist, that figure, and a collarbone that makes one want to lick it!
Wen Runan couldn’t help but inwardly whistle. To avoid leaving a bad impression on the beautiful Jie Jie, her expression began to rein in, adopting a warm, eager look. “May I ask who you are looking for, Jie Jie? Are they a resident of this unit?”
As Wen Runan approached, Li Mo smelled a familiar scent on her—one that was especially enticing to her.
“I’m looking for a friend of mine. She said she lives in…” Li Mo looked at Wen Runan, her ink-black pupils concealing hidden emotions, “…302.”
“Eh? 302?” Wen Runan was stunned for a moment, touching her ear. “I live in 302. Jie Jie, did you perhaps remember the room number incorrectly?”
“Is that so?” Li Mo tilted her head, a distressed expression appearing on her face. “But I remember she specifically said Room 302, Building 13.”
“How about this? You can come and sit in my place for a bit. Maybe your friend will come here looking for you later,” Wen Runan said with a smile. “Let me introduce myself: I’m Wen Runan.”
Li Mo also smiled. “My surname is Li.”
The room Wen Runan lived in was not large, covering only about sixty square meters—a standard one-bedroom, one-living-room, two-bathroom studio apartment.
After inviting Li Mo to sit on the sofa, Wen Runan happily went into the kitchen to prepare a fruit platter, intending to treat the beautiful Jie Jie well.
“Host, calm down! If you kill the Female Lead outright, you will definitely be rejected by the World Consciousness!” If 033 had a physical body, it would want to grip Li Mo’s shoulders and scream desperately into her ear.
“Can one die even with destiny power protecting them?” Li Mo was in a good mood now, taking a moment to address 033.
“It’s highly possible, Master. Our energy is limited. If we don’t successfully obtain the destiny power, it will be difficult to move on to the next small world,” seeing that Li Mo was willing to listen, 033 sped up its speech.
“Master, getting destiny power isn’t just about killing the other person; you can try a more discreet method,” 033 tentatively suggested. “For example, Master could try courting the Female Lead.”
After finding that Li Mo showed no adverse reaction, 033 dared to continue. “This way, you can gain not only the Female Lead’s entire destiny power but also the Male Lead’s destiny power.”
“One of the prerequisites for becoming the Male Lead is being with the Female Lead.” Seeing that there was a chance, 033 became more enthusiastic. “If the Female Lead ends up with you, Master, the destiny power corresponding to the Male Lead will transfer to you.”
Setting aside the possibility of being discovered by the World Consciousness, this Wen Runan was, after all, its former Host.
Although choosing her was 033’s biggest mistake, the only person who might save it now was this terribly unlucky former Host!
“Miss Li, are you allergic to any fruits?” Wen Runan leaned half her body out of the kitchen to ask.
Li Mo looked over following the sound. Wen Runan’s unbound black hair fell naturally down her back, and a few unruly strands clung to her neck, making her look like translucent, beautiful jade.
“Miss Li?”
“No, anything is fine,” Li Mo withdrew her gaze.
What to do? Compared to the supposed courting, she still preferred killing the other woman. Clamping her beautiful neck, watching her frantically struggle from suffocation, and then finally succumb weakly to death.
Beautiful and fragile things exist only to be destroyed.
033, sensing Li Mo’s mood, shut up.
Psychopath! This person is a complete psychopath! There’s no possibility of communication! My life is over!
Wen Runan was completely unaware of the approaching danger. After cutting the fruit platter, she happily carried it out.
“These are the only kinds of fruit I have at home, Miss Li. Please don’t mind,” Wen Runan said, thoughtfully handing over a fork.
Li Mo reached out to take it, simultaneously holding Wen Runan’s index finger and gently rubbing it.
Wen Runan instinctively held her breath, then slowly let out a sigh. “Miss Li?”
Li Mo released her hand. “Your hand is very beautiful.”
Wen Runan was somewhat bewildered but politely thanked her. “Thank you, Miss Li. Your hand is also very beautiful.”
Li Mo tasted a piece of every fruit, then stopped. She sat very quietly on the sofa, just silently watching Wen Runan eat.
Wen Runan was so carefree that she didn’t notice anything amiss until she had finished most of the fruit platter, realizing that Li Mo’s state was odd.
“Miss Li, are you feeling unwell—” Wen Runan hadn’t finished her sentence before she found herself pinned to the sofa by Miss Li, with a hand on her neck.
Li Mo’s fingertip gently rubbed Wen Runan’s neck. She could clearly feel the pulsing blood vessels inside and the warm blood flowing through them.
Wen Runan subconsciously swallowed. In a flash of insight, a somewhat ridiculous guess popped into her mind, which she blurted out instantly.
“Miss Li, you wouldn’t have fallen for me at first sight and now want to kiss me, would you?” Wen Runan realized the inappropriateness after speaking and quickly tried to compensate with a joking tone. “But even if that’s the case, Miss Li, you’re tackling me a bit too fast. You should at least confess first!”
“Confess?” Li Mo murmured, her gaze shifting from Wen Runan’s neck to her face, eyes filled with confusion. “I fell for you at first sight?”
“Miss Li, that doesn’t count as a confession,” Wen Runan quickly pulled Li Mo’s hand away, sliding down along the edge of the sofa to successfully break free and stand beside it.
Li Mo simply lay back on the sofa, meeting Wen Runan’s gaze. “Why do you think that?”
“Weren’t you trying to pounce and kiss me just now?” Wen Runan’s intuition told her that the Miss Li in front of her was very dangerous, and she had better just play along. “You even touched my hand earlier. That counts as a form of flirtation, right?”
Li Mo laughed, her smile slightly maniacal. This Female Lead was truly interesting. Had she really not sensed Li Mo’s malice?
Or, was her behavior just now all a pretense?
“I think so. I definitely wanted to kiss you just now.” Li Mo changed her mind. She decided to listen to 033 this one time and try courting the Female Lead, at least until she lost interest in her.
Since she chose to court the Female Lead, Li Mo naturally did not leave easily. Instead, she restrained her expression and suppressed her desire for destruction.
“Miss Li, why don’t you try contacting your friend?” Wen Runan was completely on edge. If she had only been suspicious before, she was now certain.
This Miss Li was very strange; there was a ninety percent chance she had mental issues.
Crap. Could this Miss Li have escaped from a mental hospital? But there isn’t a mental hospital nearby!
“No need,” Li Mo refused. “I’m hungry.”
“…” Wen Runan felt like her toes were about to curl enough to build a villa. What is wrong with this person? Why the inexplicable confidence, as if I’ll cook for her just because she says she’s hungry?
The two stared at each other for less than three seconds before Wen Runan looked away. “Well, should I go make dinner?”
Li Mo nodded. Of course, one should eat when hungry.
Walking toward the kitchen, Wen Runan held her phone and hesitated for a moment. If you encounter an escaped mental patient, are you supposed to call the police?
But Miss Li was so good-looking. Sending such a person to a mental hospital would be too cruel.
In the end, Wen Runan put the phone back in her pocket, then put on her best effort and made three dishes and one soup.
Truthfully, even with Wen Runan’s best efforts, her cooking skills were very mediocre. Fortunately, Li Mo didn’t care much for gastronomic pleasures and was kind enough to finish a bowl of rice.
“Miss Li, it’s getting late now. Would you like to go home?” Wen Runan asked carefully.
If Heaven gave her another chance, she would be mute the moment she saw Miss Li! That way, she wouldn’t have attracted this ill-looking beauty!
This time, Li Mo said nothing but nodded. Soon, she was respectfully escorted by Wen Runan to the bottom of the apartment building.
“See you next time,” Li Mo said very politely.
Wen Runan’s smile was slightly forced. “See you next time.”
See you next time, my foot! If she could choose, she hoped that “next time” would be “never again”!
But unfortunately, the very next day, Wen Runan saw her again, and it was at the department meeting.
Upon realizing that the person was her new direct superior—Li Mo, the Male Lead’s sister—Wen Runan’s first reaction was relief.
