After the Cannon Fodder Awakens, They Marry the Heroine! - Chapter 14
The dinner immediately following the confirmation of their relationship was destined to be filled with pink bubbles. Anyone who secretly observed the two was basically treated to an extra serving of public display of affection.
“Are you going home?” Li Mo tilted her head in confusion. “Shouldn’t partners live together?”
Live together? Wen Runan couldn’t help but touch her face. She didn’t know how many times she had blushed today.
“The lease on my rented apartment hasn’t expired yet…” Wen Runan hesitated but was also tempted. “And I haven’t packed my luggage or clothes…”
Li Mo thought for a moment and quickly offered a solution. “Then I’ll drive you back to pack your things, and then you can stay at my place?”
Since she had already said all this, could she refuse?
“Okay, then I’ll be troubling you,” Wen Runan said shyly.
“There is no trouble between partners,” Li Mo smiled, reaching out to give Wen Runan’s flushed earlobe a restrained pinch. “Don’t say things like that again.”
Save me! System! She’s so good! I’m truly going to be swept off my feet!
Wen Runan was dizzy with beauty and tenderness. After realizing that the subsequent plot didn’t conflict with cohabitation, she gave up her superficial struggle, obediently returned to her rented apartment, packed her essentials, and happily followed Li Mo home.
Li Mo lived in a large apartment in the city center. Wen Runan had roughly understood the basic layout when she was there before: besides necessary functional rooms like the study and walk-in closet, there was one master bedroom and two guest rooms.
“Uh, which room am I staying in?” Wen Runan pulled her suitcase, moving a little cautiously.
“The bedroom,” Li Mo led the way, opening the door. “I’ll have the housekeeper tidy it up tomorrow. Then the left side of the walk-in closet will be used for your clothes.”
“Isn’t this your room?” Wen Runan’s eyes widened. She paused her movement of pulling the suitcase, her voice slightly flustered. “A-am I going to s-sleep in the same room as you? Isn’t that progressing a bit too quickly?”
How exciting! Am I going to get close to the great beauty on the first day of cohabitation? This is too wonderful! Hurry up!
Li Mo smiled and asked back, “I don’t think anyone would make their girlfriend sleep in a guest room, would they?”
Wen Runan: “That may be true, but today is only our first day of officially being a couple…”
Be reserved! Be reserved! I must be reserved! Don’t reveal my true nature! I’m supposed to be the innocent little flower right now!
“I think you might have misunderstood something,” Li Mo let out a sound of genuine amusement, gazing at Wen Runan. “Although I would love to, I won’t do anything to you until you’re ready.”
“We’ll just simply sleep together, with a hug at most,” Li Mo gave a reliable assurance, based on 033’s reminder.
Just simply sleeping together? That’s too bad!
Wen Runan expressed her regret. If only she didn’t have to follow a specific character setting, she would have just pounced on her!
The first night sharing a bed, both Li Mo and Wen Runan acted very restrained. Only after the covers warmed up did the two slowly move closer to each other, stopping in mutual understanding once their fingers were interlaced.
Be restrained. Holding hands while sleeping together for the first time is enough. If we progress too quickly, it might scare her.
At that moment, Li Mo and Wen Runan surprisingly shared the same thought.
The next day, the foot traffic in the Jiaheng lobby noticeably increased. Many people who usually clocked in just in time for work were now carrying breakfast, lingering between the entrance and the elevator hall, clearly waiting for someone.
“Stop eating! Look at the door! The President and her little darling are here!”
“Idiot! Just stare and don’t eat? You’re obviously trying to watch the show!”
Li Mo walked in holding Wen Runan’s hand. The noise in the lobby instantly quieted significantly, leaving only a group of very “busy” employees.
It was just being looked at a few extra times, which Li Mo was accustomed to. Neither the expression on her face nor her stride changed.
In contrast, Wen Runan appeared less composed. After all, many of the onlookers were employees from the Administrative Department. She even saw a colleague winking at her and giving her a thumbs-up!
They could commute together, but the floors they worked on were separate. Wen Runan had just gotten off the exclusive elevator and barely settled into her cubicle when curious colleagues immediately surrounded her.
“Xiao Wen, are you really! Really with President Li?” This was clearly a colleague who had missed the public confession.
“Amazing! You silently managed to snag President Li Mo! Awesome!” This was a colleague who had witnessed the scene.
“May I be so bold as to ask, Comrade Xiao Wen, how did you two get together?” This was a nosy colleague from another department who had joined the fray.
“Cough, cough, well, our acquaintance probably started with a coincidence…” Wen Runan, being watched, was shy but mostly excited and joyful.
Hehe, that’s right, I’m the great beauty Li Mo’s girlfriend! That should shock you all! We even slept together last night! The kind where we held hands before sleeping and hugged when we woke up! And we kissed this morning!
In comparison to the radiating beauty of Wen Runan, the atmosphere around Li Mo’s side was slightly serious and heavy.
“President Li, the hot search suddenly reached seventh place at 1 a.m. As you instructed, I suppressed it immediately. Subsequently, low-ranking hot searches appeared again at 4 a.m. and 7 a.m., all of which were handled within half an hour and did not attract too much attention.”
“You did very well. Thank you for your hard work,” Li Mo had already guessed what would happen when she chose the confession location.
Jiaheng’s President likes the same sex; Jiaheng’s President likes an employee who just passed her probation; Jiaheng’s President publicly confesses at the company. Any one of these could be used by Li Beichen to attack her through public opinion, which could even affect Jiaheng’s stock price.
“What’s the situation with Li Beichen?” Li Mo asked.
The Assistant replied, “Junior President Li was taken to the hospital yesterday. The doctor recommended he stay for observation and a full-body check-up. He hasn’t been discharged yet.”
Li Mo nodded, lightly tapping the solid wood desktop with her middle finger. “If public opinion can’t be suppressed, we could consider revealing information about Li Beichen and…”
“Never mind. You should buy some big entertainment industry scoops in advance. If an accident occurs, release them to divert attention,” Li Mo temporarily changed her mind.
Originally, Li Mo had intended to use this opportunity to drag Wen Runan and Li Beichen’s situation into the open. That way, more netizens would shift their attention to them, and a slight guidance could ruin Li Beichen’s reputation.
But just as she was about to speak, Li Mo remembered the person who had said good morning to her with such vitality this morning, and then grinned foolishly for half an hour after happily getting her morning kiss.
An easily satisfied little silly-head. Let her be happy for a few more days. Dealing with public opinion doesn’t require dragging her into the mud as well.
A hint of difficulty appeared on the Assistant’s face. “President Li, if we need a major exposé, the initial budget might not be enough.”
“Then increase the budget,” Li Mo stopped tapping, opened a drawer, took out her checkbook, wrote a string of numbers on it, and handed it over pinched between her fingers. “Is an additional twenty million enough?”
The Assistant froze, then immediately nodded, carefully taking the check with both hands. “President Li, rest assured. I’ll definitely handle this flawlessly. Your and Miss Wen’s reputations will not be affected in any way.”
