After the Cannon Fodder Awakens, They Marry the Heroine! - Chapter 11
Li Beichen changed. He became less antagonistic toward Li Mo, even delegating a fair amount of the authority he held.
When Li Mo proposed to fire a batch of people and conduct new recruitment, Li Beichen was also uncharacteristically cooperative, allowing the people he had cultivated to be replaced by the newly hired staff.
Abnormal occurrences indicate trouble, and Li Mo’s intuition told her that Li Beichen was holding back for some malicious move, which was why he had temporarily reined himself in.
Did I have a flaw that he discovered? Li Mo lowered her brows in thought, reviewing her recent actions in her mind.
Whether it was her planned arrangements or personnel changes, she had executed them perfectly. The newly negotiated projects were also progressing well. She hadn’t missed anything.
“In terms of company management, I certainly have some shortcomings, and I have come to a very clear realization of this during this period,” Li Beichen said, looking at Li Mo with sincerity during the executive meeting.
“I hope Sister won’t dwell on the mistakes I made in the past and can impart some experience to me,” Li Beichen said, standing up and bowing in apology in front of numerous senior executives.
Is this a retreat to advance, re-establishing his positive image?
“We’re all family; such formality is unnecessary,” Li Mo stood up and patted his shoulder, her face showing gratification. “Little brother, if you have anything you don’t understand, as long as I’m in the company, you can come to me anytime.”
It’s just an act; who can’t play a part?
“Thank you, Sister,” Li Beichen hid his true emotions extremely well. Including Li Mo, no more than five people in the conference room saw through the pretense.
Li Mo smiled, applying a little pressure to his shoulder, pressing Li Beichen back into his seat.
“Since Beichen has said as much, as your older sister, I certainly shouldn’t keep any secrets,” Li Mo rested her hands on the table, her gaze sweeping around. “I happen to have some ideas about departmental reform. I’ll take advantage of this meeting to discuss them with everyone at once.”
Since Li Beichen had retreated, Li Mo had no reason not to advance.
Regardless of what evil he was plotting, it didn’t stop Li Mo from seizing this opportunity to openly arrange her own people into other departments.
Li Beichen maintained his smile throughout, occasionally nodding in agreement, looking like an obedient student.
Only Li Beichen himself and the ballpoint pen he was practically crushing knew how much self-control he used to keep his facial expression steady.
Li Beichen’s transformation seemed somewhat sudden to most senior executives. Their first reaction was to question the authenticity of the situation—was this a smokescreen, or had the prodigal son truly reformed?
“President Li, there’s something I’m not sure I should say,” Wen Runan asked, a little conflicted, sitting in the passenger seat.
“You want to remind me to be careful of Li Beichen?” Li Mo glanced at her, quickly guessing what she wanted to say. “His change is sudden, and there’s probably something fishy going on.”
Wen Runan rubbed her nose. “You guessed it. Although I don’t think you’ll be fooled, I still wanted to remind you.”
If Li Mo was carelessly harmed, her only “Male Lead” would be Li Beichen, which was not the outcome Wen Runan wanted to see.
“Thank you for the reminder. I’ll be more careful,” Li Mo said with a smile. “Does your worrying about me mean I hold a lot of weight in your heart?”
Wen Runan blinked. Feeling her heart speed up slightly, she was puzzled. Li Mo wasn’t even looking at her; why was she getting nervous?
“Is that question difficult to answer?” Li Mo pressed.
“You hold a great deal of weight in my heart… of course, you do. It’s just that…” Thinking of the two key plot points she still needed to complete, Wen Runan could only painfully continue to act like a scumbag. “It’s still missing just a little bit of the weight my heart’s beloved holds.”
Heart’s beloved? Li Mo whispered the three words internally, laughing softly.
Li Mo: “Then, Miss Wen Runan, what can I do to fill that missing weight?”
Wen Runan mentally calculated. The two key plot points she hadn’t completed yet were arguing with the ‘Male Lead’ and then misunderstanding the ‘Male Lead’ and leaving in anger.
Clearly, she needed to complete these two key plots with Li Beichen.
“I really love Yunnan roses. If you could personally pick one and give it to me…”
Wen Runan didn’t finish the rest of her sentence. She just blushed slightly, looking at Li Mo with pure, doe-like eyes, the fragmented light reflecting in her eyes, making her anticipation sparkle.
Li Mo’s eyes subtly shifted, her lips curving into a beautiful arc. Her gaze fell on the red light at the intersection. The slightly harsh red light obscured the emotions in her eyes. “Alright. I’ll send that flower to you very soon.”
The rose was just an excuse. Wen Runan actually just wanted to send Li Mo away to clear time for herself to meet Li Beichen.
However, at this moment, Wen Runan didn’t know that Li Beichen had already seen through her disguise, still believing her “undercover” status hadn’t been exposed.
“President Li, I’ve thought about it clearly. Let’s pretend the past never happened. From now on, we go our separate ways,” Wen Runan said, her eyes reddening, suppressing her sadness.
Taking advantage of the day Li Mo flew to Yunnan, Wen Runan found an excuse to ask Li Beichen out. The two met at a coffee shop not far from the company.
“What do you mean by that?” Li Beichen seeing through her was true, but that didn’t mean he had let go of Wen Runan. In fact, her choosing Li Mo made him even more possessive of her.
“President Li, your wedding date with Miss Liu has been set. I wish you both happiness forever,” Wen Runan’s eyes were distinctly redder now. “I am a person with a sense of shame, and I hope President Li doesn’t think so poorly of me.”
“Poorly? Is being with me something shameful?” Li Beichen’s brows furrowed tightly, his face showing displeasure. “Did Liu Lu say something to you?”
“It’s unrelated to Miss Liu. A person with morals wouldn’t choose to interfere in a marriage,” Wen Runan sniffled. “President Li, from now on, we are just ordinary colleagues. I have self-respect, and I hope President Li does too.”
Seeing the restrained anger in Li Beichen’s eyes, Wen Runan knew her goal was already halfway achieved.
Flashing a forced smile, Wen Runan stood up. “I’m not done with my work yet. Goodbye.”
“Who allowed you to leave?” Just as Wen Runan predicted, Li Beichen stepped forward and grabbed her arm, aggressively locking her back into the seat against her will.
“You asked me out just to tell me this? Are you intentionally trying to anger me?” The rage in his voice became clearer. “And you tell me to have self-respect?”
Seeing the helplessness in Wen Runan’s eyes, Li Beichen recalled earlier events and couldn’t help but reveal part of his disguise, his eyes becoming murky. “There’s no Li Mo to help you today; you’re not leaving.”
What the heck, the Male Lead’s reaction is wrong! At this point, he should be explaining himself to me, saying that his engagement with Liu Lu is just a formality. Then I can use that to my advantage and complete the misunderstanding and angry departure plots!
“What does this have to do with Li Mo?” Wen Runan began to struggle, trying to escape the suppressed position.
“What relationship?” Li Beichen narrowed his eyes, his gaze turning dangerous. “My dear Nannan, aren’t you very close to Li Mo? Li Mo is willing to protect you—don’t you two have some kind of relationship?”
“Wen Runan, I can tolerate you fooling me once, but if you fool me a second time, don’t blame me,” Li Beichen gazed at Wen Runan ominously.
If Wen Runan insisted on not coming back to him, after getting rid of Li Mo, he wouldn’t mind using some unconventional methods to keep her by his side forever.
