- After the Breakup, My Ex-Boyfriend’s "White Moonlight" Became Obsessed With Me
- Chapter 25 - Tianxing Technology
The two having reached an agreement, He Ran began to usher the other man out. “Get out! I need to shower!”
Yin Zheng nodded gently. “Alright, you go ahead and wash up. Breakfast is almost ready. Come down to eat in a bit.”
This virtuous wife and mother act made He Ran so frustrated he could not even find a reason to lose his temper. After a long silence, he managed to squeeze out a single word: “Scram!”
As the saying goes, one should be kind to the person who feeds them. Since his stomach had been comfortably taken care of early in the morning, He Ran’s tone was naturally a bit softer when he spoke again.
“With these skills, even if your family company goes bankrupt, you could still be a head chef.”
Yin Zheng replied with a smile, “I will consider it. If that day ever comes, I will be your private chef and only cook for you.”
He Ran pulled out a tissue and wiped his mouth. “Not a bad idea. Then I wish your company a speedy bankruptcy.”
Yin Zheng raised an eyebrow. “If my company goes bankrupt, what will happen to your game?”
Damn! How did he forget about that!
“Speaking of which,” Yin Zheng asked, “what is the current progress of the project?”
When it came to work, He Ran became serious. “We have entered the program development phase, but currently only a framework has been completed. This kind of thing cannot be rushed. After all, holographic technology is still in the experimental stage, and it is the first time our company has done this. Although there are already several holographic games on the market, most are poorly made and offer no reference value.”
Yin Zheng nodded. “The progress is faster than I imagined, which shows this was not a recent idea. When did you decide to make a holographic online game?”
He Ran pursed his lips. “Back in university.”
“That early? Then why did you only start now?”
He Ran showed a rare amount of patience as he explained, “Back then it was just a general idea; I did not think about realizing it. It was only after taking over the company these past two years that I thought about giving it a try.”
He Ran liked playing games during university, and as a gamer, who would not want to play a holographic one? At that time, however, he lacked ambition. With an older brother shielding him, he spent his days thinking only of eating, drinking, and having fun. Perhaps noticing this, his brother formally handed the company over to him after graduation and took off for the United States.
After taking over the company, He Ran was so busy he barely had time to rest, let alone play games. By chance, he learned that a foreign game company had successfully created a holographic game. This event caused a stir in many countries and drove game fans wild. He Ran bought the equipment with excitement and found it novel for a while.
However, he grew tired of it after a few days. The scenes were too fake, the characters too stiff, and the storyline lacked logic. Not only was it impossible to immerse oneself, but the immature technology also caused nausea and dizziness. Sure enough, before long, the game was taken down due to a fatality, and the company vanished.
In recent years, society and technology have continued to develop. AI technology has matured, and smart robots are widely popularized. Only holographic technology has failed to see a breakthrough. Thus, the idea He Ran had in university resurfaced.
Since no one else was doing it, why should he not? He had majored in computer science at a top university. Two years ago, He Ran contacted some former classmates; some were interested, others were not. He Ran did not force anyone but recruited all those who were willing into Chengyang and established a separate subsidiary, Tianxing Technology.
He also recruited top talent from society with generous benefits regardless of nationality. He Ran invested his entire net worth into it without using a single cent from the parent company; it was all his personal property. This venture was a huge gamble with an unknown outcome, and he saw no need to drag the company down with him.
Good games are built on money. Even with He Ran’s substantial family wealth, sinking that much money in at once was a significant strain. Consequently, he thought of seeking investment. It was a good idea, but few were interested. People were willing to invest ten or twenty million for the sake of his reputation, but that amount was useless to He Ran.
Just when he was at a loss, RE suddenly contacted him with incredibly attractive terms. The amount of capital they offered even gave He Ran a shock. Thinking of this, He Ran could not help but be curious. “Why did you invest in this project? Even I cannot be one hundred percent sure it will succeed.”
Yin Zheng propped his chin on his hand and smiled. “No particular reason. I am also very interested in holographic games. I have done market research and feel it has great potential for development and profit.”
He Ran did not quite believe him. The investment cost was too high and the sunk risk too great, which did not fit the mindset of a typical businessman. However, since it benefited him, he did not say much, though he felt a renewed sense of urgency. If it failed, tens of billions would be wasted.
No longer in the mood for idle chat, he checked the time. “It is about time. I am going to work.”
“I will give you a ride. I happen to want to see your team as well.”
Since he was now essentially He Ran’s half-boss, this request was not at all unreasonable. He Ran had no reason to refuse, so he nodded in agreement.
They drove to the Chengyang Group and took the elevator directly to the thirty-third floor. In the elevator, He Ran told him, “The thirty-third and thirty-fourth floors are the research and development center. It is isolated, and you cannot get up here without an ID card. Everyone inside is a core member of this project.”
Yin Zheng nodded thoughtfully. “The security work is well done.”
Stepping out of the elevator, they encountered another door. He Ran approached and aligned his eyes with the iris lock. A sweet, mechanical female voice sounded.
[Beep. Identity confirmation in progress. Identity confirmation successful. Xiao Tian welcomes master home!]
“Master?” Yin Zheng looked at him with a half-smile, his eyes full of amusement.
He Ran felt a bit embarrassed and explained, “The technical staff are mostly fresh out of school, so their personalities are a bit lively.”
“Oh, is that so?” Yin Zheng laughed. “I thought perhaps you had some special hobbies.”
“Let us go in.”
As they stepped through the alloy doors that slid open to both sides, Yin Zheng felt as if he had stepped into another world. The design was highly futuristic, with white as the primary theme. The two floors were connected through the middle, featuring a massive circular projection pool. Dozens of pale blue electronic screens were suspended in mid-air; some scrolled with code, while others displayed various graphics. Men and women moved between them, each busy with their own tasks, only nodding slightly upon seeing the pair.
Rather than an office, it looked more like a data center. He Ran took him up to the second floor and knocked on a door.
“Come in!” a clear female voice responded.
He Ran pushed the door open, stood at the entrance, and clapped his hands. He announced loudly, “Everyone, stop what you are doing for a moment.”
Several people in the room stood up one after another, greeting him in unison. “Hello, President He!”
He Ran stepped aside and said, “Let me introduce everyone. This is Tianxing’s largest investor and our second-largest shareholder, Yin Zheng of RE, President Yin.”
