Chapter 45.2: Going Back to Find the Wife
â—Ž Host, your body has been stolen by your ex-wife â—Ž
“Use this body,” Jiao Qingyin decided immediately. “During the transmission, explain the specific orders from the higher-ups.“
The System quickly opened the channel. Before her soul entered the body of the bionic snow leopard, Jiao Qingyin spoke one last sentence in a cold tone:
“Also, she’s not my ex-wife. She’s… my wife. We never got a divorce.“
The System sensed danger; its database felt chilled. It didn’t dare argue that the two of them hadn’t technically gotten married either.
The moment Jiao Qingyin opened her eyes, she was startled by a strange object in front of her. She leaped into the air, her head bumping against the roof of the cave.
However, that strange object was not shaken off; it jumped with her, following her like a shadow.
Terrified, Jiao Qingyin hopped around some more, her small white figure dashing from one end of the cave to the other. She finally calmed down only after the System gave an incredulous cry of “Host!“
Then, Jiao Qingyin realized the thing that had scared her was… her own tail.
The furry tail was exceptionally long and, compared to other felines, appeared especially thick. It was white with black patterns, twitching slightly along with Jiao Qingyin’s emotions.
Jiao Qingyin finally recovered her senses, remembering that she was currently using the body of a bionic pet. She recalled that the pet had been hairless and ugly… while she couldn’t confirm her own appearance now, it was clear she had fur.
Unwilling to dwell on her previous foolishness, Jiao Qingyin ducked into a corner, scanning the cave with wary eyes while urging the System to explain the current situation.
Relieved to see her return to normal, the System began transmitting the known intelligence.
Al had modified the captured systems, using them to connect to other small worlds. She intended to perform a cross-dimensional jump and was on the verge of success…?
Reading at lightning speed, Jiao Qingyin instantly captured this most important piece of information, her eyes widening. Can Al even be considered within the realm of humanity anymore…?
Although in the original story Al possessed the power to destroy and rebuild the world, jumping through time and space was the domain of high-dimensional beings. If Al truly achieved this… she would possess authority equivalent to the Time-Space Management Bureau.
The Bureau’s mission for Jiao Qingyin was just one simple sentence: “Soothe the emotions of the Protagonist (Al) and prevent her from jumping into other small worlds.”
No need to steer the plot back? Jiao Qingyin asked the System in her mind.
The System replied in a melancholy voice: “It can’t be steered back. And just now, Headquarters was attacked by your ex—wife again. This time, she blasted a hole through the firewall.”
Jiao Qingyin: “…” For some reason, while feeling inexplicably guilty, she also felt a hint of pride.
Having clarified her goal, Jiao Qingyin planned to find Al as soon as possible. Just the thought of her face made her heart race uncontrollably. It had only been five days since she last saw Al, but it felt as if she had spent five years without her.
She raised a paw, hesitating cautiously about how to take the first step.
Earlier, out of fright, she had parkoured around the cave at an incredible speed. Now that she was trying to consciously control this body, the task became much harder.
After moving the left front leg, which hind leg should follow? Where should the tail be placed while walking?
After a long internal struggle, Jiao Qingyin finally extended her left front paw. But when she tried to follow her plan by moving her right hind leg, she stumbled and fell.
The cub’s body was too round. This fall caused her to roll like a ball right to the mouth of the cave.
Outside the cave was a cliff. Jiao Qingyin couldn’t stop herself; her fur stood on end. Instinctively, she extended her claws, trying to hook onto a small pebble at the cave entrance.
But she caught nothing but air.
Just as she thought she was destined to fall off the cliff, she crashed into a soft body. Long white fur instantly enveloped her entire leopard form. It felt as if she had fallen into a cloud, and she was so dizzy she couldn’t find her bearings.
A giant white wolf stared at the small leopard pinned under its front paw, a dark light flashing in its deep blue eyes.
She had been opening the gate to another world when she abruptly sensed Jiao Qingyin’s aura.
During these long five years, she had used the mirror countless times to recall the past, slept while holding Jiao Qingyin’s clothes, and searched for traces left behind in every place the other had visited. But the more she did this, the more she realized Jiao Qingyin had truly left her.
Wishing for Jiao Qingyin’s return, Al had done her best to maintain the operation of the entire world. She used her own power to mend the world’s wounds, giving new life to a land she should have destroyed with her own hands. She was afraid that if this place were gone, Jiao Qingyin might not find her way back if she ever thought of her.
But she had never been able to wait long enough.
She had spent immense effort setting up an altar at the Site of the Fallen Old Gods, using Jiao Qingyin’s true name and her own essence blood as a guide, hoping to reverse time and bring her back. But under the sky-filling lightning storm, she only recovered Jiao Qingyin’s silent, lifeless body.
After confirming it was indeed Jiao Qingyin but finding no breath, Al had gone completely mad. She chose to end her own life, wanting to die while holding the other.
But the Moon Ring Jiao Qingyin gave her saved her.
After crawling out of the pool of blood, Al realized that since Jiao Qingyin wasn’t coming back, rather than staying in this world to wait, she might as well leave and go find her.
However… the aura that appeared just a moment ago was too familiar. Incredulous ecstasy caused Al to pause her actions and rush to the source of the aura immediately.
Yet, there was only a snow leopard cub that likely hadn’t even been weaned.
Al could sense the unusual aura on Hosts the moment they were deployed into the world, but this aura would vanish within thirty seconds to three minutes. She had rushed here at her fastest speed, but she was still a step too late.
Had Jiao Qingyin already left, or was she hiding? Or… was it all just an illusion, and she hadn’t come back at all?
Sensing movement from the dazed snow leopard, Al looked down and pushed her away with a ferocious glint in her eyes. The little snow leopard wasn’t even as tall as her calf. With this push, she rolled again, her head getting stuck in a snowdrift.
“Aow!” Startled, the little snow leopard bounced up again. Her incredible leaping power sent her onto a nearby boulder, where she shook her head violently, trying to shake off the small twigs sticking to her fur from the snowdrift.
Al was about to leave when she caught sight of a familiar object around the other’s neck. Her pupils instantly narrowed into vertical slits.
This was Jiao Qingyin’s first time being an animal. After becoming a snow leopard, she was heavily influenced by the species; her senses were countless times more sensitive than she imagined. She frantically batted at herself, trying to get rid of the twigs.
In the next second, she was pinned down by a terrifying force. That completely overwhelming power made her look up in panic, only to meet the eyes of a white wolf.
Those blue-green eyes were exceptionally beautiful, immediately reminding Jiao Qingyin of her two Als. But neither the human Al nor her little wolf pup would ever look at her with such inhuman, ferocious eyes.
She let out a weak cry, then heard the white wolf in front of her speak.
“Who gave you that collar?“
Jiao Qingyin heard the white wolf let out a few howls, which were automatically translated into meanings she could understand.
Collar? Jiao Qingyin didn’t know what this hostile beast was referring to, but she soon felt her neck loosen as something was unfastened by the other. A black collar was hooked on the great white wolf’s claw, its silver buckle reflecting a cold light in the sun.
Jiao Qingyin’s eyes widened. For a little snow leopard to show such an expression was incredibly cute, but the white wolf before her clearly didn’t know how to appreciate it.
“Who gave it to you?” the wolf asked again.
For the first time in five years, she had found a clue related to Jiao Qingyin, only to discover that the other seemed to have raised a new pet. Short-lived joy and intense jealousy intertwined, and a strong ferocity emerged from Al.
Jiao Qingyin became anxious. This was her most important possession; how could she let a strange beast steal it? She scrambled up, arched her back, and let out a threatening low growl: “Ji.“
“…” Jiao Qingyin froze.
The white wolf, colder than snow, also paused.
Jiao Qingyin began to doubt her life as a leopard. Wasn’t she a snow leopard…? Why would a snow leopard make such a sound?
But the situation didn’t allow for much thought. Jiao Qingyin lowered her upper body, and a ball of magic gathered under her paws. She opened her power authority. If this white wolf didn’t return the collar, she would kill it if necessary to take it back.
Because the danger level of this world had increased significantly, Headquarters had specifically given Jiao Qingyin the ability to toggle her power authority during this deployment. This meant that although she was in the body of a snow leopard cub, she could use her strength from her peak period.
Al sensed the danger.
This feeling was unfamiliar because it had been far too long since anything could threaten her. Her power grew stronger every day; if she wanted to level a city, she only needed to move a finger. Yet this seemingly ordinary and somewhat cowardly snow leopard actually made her sense a premonition of danger…
There’s something wrong with this leopard, Al thought, her face darkening.
A murderous aura emerged from Al. She decided to break the other’s limbs first, confirm her inability to resist, and then extract information from her.
But Jiao Qingyin was faster.
She leaped up, using magic and her supernatural abilities from her previous life to compensate for her lack of familiarity with using the body. Like an elf of the snowy mountains, she launched a silent attack against Al.
Jiao Qingyin had been known as a God of War; she never feared strong enemies. She might not have Al’s ability to warp time and space, but in a straight fight, she didn’t think she would lose to anyone.
A stunning conflict erupted between the wolf and the leopard. Even the snowy mountain beneath their feet began to tremble.
After several exchanges, both Jiao Qingyin and Al were wounded, though no blood was drawn. They retreated a certain distance, staring into each other’s eyes.
“Ji.” Give it back.
“Aowoo.” This is mine.
Jiao Qingyin’s eyes turned red with anger. Her fur moved even without wind, and terrifying power rapidly accumulated around her.
The System didn’t dare speak. It realized now that it had become too accustomed to following the Host on missions in relatively safe worlds and had completely underestimated the Host’s capabilities. If the Host released an attack of this intensity, it would definitely cause a huge impact. Wouldn’t the already precarious world line become even worse…?!
The turning point happened in the next second.
Jiao Qingyin’s current body was too weak to withstand such great power. Small cracks appeared on the surface of her skin, and blood dyed her white-and-black fur red. As the scent of blood spread, Al smelled a familiar aura.
She froze for several seconds before realizing whose scent this was. The other wasn’t some new pet Jiao Qingyin had raised. This aura, warm enough to make her want to cry, was clearly—Jiao Qingyin herself!
Al got distracted for a split second, and Jiao Qingyin seized the opportunity to pin her heavily to the ground. The tiny snow leopard stepped on Al’s face with one paw, creating a scene of complete suppression.
A snow leopard’s paws are wider than those of most felines to adapt to climbing in difficult environments, and the fur on them is thick and dense. But as a cub, Jiao Qingyin’s paws had barely been used for walking; the paw pads were still pink and tender, like a piece of pudding.
How is this an ordinary snow leopard…! Al’s pupils began to dilate. The other was simply incredibly cute—every hair was glowing, with beautiful eyes, pink paw pads, and a long thick tail… This was the cutest snow leopard in the world!
Al had imagined countless scenarios of her reunion with Jiao Qingyin and what her feelings would be at that moment. She had dreamed that the moment she saw Jiao Qingyin, she would rush forward and hold her tight. She had dreamed of gripping her neck again with hatred, threatening her never to leave again. She would also cry out in her dreams, begging Jiao Qingyin over and over to stay by her side.
But she never imagined that her actual performance would be to fight Jiao Qingyin first, and then not realize who the snow leopard in front of her was until her face was stepped on.
“Ji, ji-aow.” Give the collar back to me.
The white wolf Al finally recovered her senses. Her bones made a tooth-aching sound under Jiao Qingyin’s merciless suppression. If she were in such a confrontation with anyone else, Al would have turned and bitten them even if it meant breaking her own limbs.
But this was Jiao Qingyin.
Al didn’t know why Jiao Qingyin had returned in this form, nor did she dare guess why the collar she could never find was being cherished and worn by the other. Before she could think of what to do, she instinctively returned the collar that was hooked on her front leg.
Jiao Qingyin breathed a sigh of relief. This white wolf was terrifyingly strong. If they continued fighting, she wouldn’t necessarily lose, but both would inevitably suffer. Jiao Qingyin didn’t want any complications before getting to her main business.
She pressed her paw on the black collar, then realized she had nowhere to hide it. Even if she wanted to put it back around her neck, her leopard paws couldn’t manage it unless…
Jiao Qingyin looked down at the white wolf, who had exposed its belly to her. This was a gesture of weakness, showing complete submission.
Jiao Qingyin thought calmly. She was able to gain the upper hand in the fight because she barely used her limbs to move, instead relying on wind elemental power and supernatural abilities to support her body.
She could certainly keep doing that, but her plan was to find her body first before meeting Al. Her body was very important to her. If Al refused to return it and she couldn’t take it back, she might complete the mission regarding Al, but she wouldn’t be able to go to other worlds for missions afterward.
In this situation, if she encountered Al as a snow leopard and used magic to walk, it would definitely arouse suspicion. Whether she could successfully find her body would then become a problem.
However, if she accepted the loyalty of this giant white wolf, it would be equivalent to having a mount and a free beast teacher. The wolf could use its claws to help her put on the collar, and she might learn how to use the snow leopard’s body by imitating it.
For example… how to control that unruly tail. Jiao Qingyin found that her tail seemed to have a mind of its own and never followed instructions. In contrast, this white wolf’s tail was extremely obedient.
After thinking a lot, Jiao Qingyin retracted her paw from Al’s face and let out a “ji-aow,” roughly meaning “I’m your boss from now on.”
Suddenly, the white wolf rolled over and brought its head close to her, making Jiao Qingyin’s tail stand on end again. Fortunately, the other had no intention of attacking; she just looked at Jiao Qingyin with those blue beast eyes and nudged her with her nose.
What does this mean? Jiao Qingyin was bewildered.
Hearing her question, the System finally dared to speak and popped its head out: “Host, I checked. It’s waiting for you to bite its mouth and take its head in.”
Jiao Qingyin: “?”
Sensing an unusual fluctuation in the air, Al’s eyes darkened, but she lowered her body even more and let out a whimpering sound of submission. She pretended to be a completely obedient beast, not daring to let Jiao Qingyin discover her true identity. She wasn’t sure why the other had returned this time. Before getting an answer, she didn’t dare appear before her in her true form.
Otherwise, if Jiao Qingyin wanted to leave again… Al’s heart throbbed at the thought. she would never let the same thing happen twice.
Jiao Qingyin’s scalp felt numb. She didn’t want to bite a stranger’s mouth… no, stranger or not, she couldn’t do it. Besides, she was just a small snow leopard cub; how could she possibly bite such a huge wolf!
