Chapter 15: The Wolf and the Whip-Wielder
â—Ž All of them are your favorite blonde slaves â—Ž
Nameless would never forget the day she was sent onto the auction stage.
As the finale item, she was showcased by the auctioneer to the entire audience under blinding spotlights. The man introduced her “selling points” in exaggerated tones; Nameless felt countless gazes casting upon her—disgusting, distorted desires that surrounded her, attempting to drag her into the abyss.
Ultimately, she was purchased for ten thousand gold pieces, and the owner of the auction house personally delivered her to a luxurious private suite. Inside that gold-encrusted room, she met the person she would come to loathe most in her life.
…And right now, she was lying right beside that person.
“Al, how can you sleep so much?”
Inside the carriage, Jiao Qingyin had just set down her book when she saw her little pet had fallen asleep again at some point. The white body was curled into a ball, a somewhat long tail resting against her face, swaying with the bumps of the carriage.
Taking advantage of the carriage’s soundproofing, Jiao Qingyin couldn’t help but sigh, feeling a bit worried: My little dog eats and sleeps, then sleeps and eats every day. Is she going to turn into a little pig eventually?
Nameless flicked an ear, pretending not to hear the concern about her figure. I’m not getting fat, I’m growing!
Besides, she had intended to use “sleeping” as an excuse to stay behind at the castle while Jiao Qingyin went out so she could secretly test the magic she’d learned. She hadn’t expected that seeing her asleep, Jiao Qingyin would simply scoop her up and tuck her into her arms before heading out.
In that moment, feeling the soft, warm contact of the woman’s body, Nameless’s breath had hitched. She cursed the woman in her heart as usual, but for some strange reason, she didn’t open her eyes, allowing Jiao Qingyin to carry her into the carriage.
Now, Jiao Qingyin looked back from the scenery outside and saw the puppy was sleeping so soundly that she felt a mischievous urge. She shifted closer to Nameless and reached out to pet her head.
Nameless “happened” to wake up just then, opening her mouth to give Jiao Qingyin a sugar-scented yawn.
Jiao Qingyin couldn’t help but smile. She withdrew her hand, pulled a sweet-looking candy from her pocket, unwrapped it, and held it to the puppy’s mouth.
Nameless turned her head away in disdain. She didn’t have a sweet tooth; she only ate those things during the day for the elemental power. This candy had no nutritional value and she wasn’t hungry, so she naturally wouldn’t eat it.
Jiao Qingyin paused, then tossed the candy into her own mouth instead. She switched hands and gently scratched the puppy’s chin. “Don’t like it?”
Nameless: “…”
In all honesty, having her chin scratched by Jiao Qingyin was very comfortable. The movements were gentle yet firm, stroking the fur against the grain and then smoothing it back—just like a massage.
However, seeing that she wasn’t being swatted away, Jiao Qingyin grew bolder and pinched the soft skin under the puppy’s chin, kneading it and giving it a tiny, playful shake.
Nameless reached her limit and snapped her teeth. Jiao Qingyin, having anticipated this, dodged and scooped her into her lap, letting out a low, muffled chuckle. The sweet scent of the candy in her mouth gradually enveloped Nameless, causing her struggles to cease.
“Your Highness, your presence truly brings light to my humble establishment.”
Jiao Qingyin was assisted out of the carriage by Meg. As soon as she found her footing, a man with a wide smile hurried forward. Seeing the sharp horns on top of his head, Jiao Qingyin’s step faltered slightly.
She quickly retrieved information about him from her memories—this was the manager of the Iris Auction House in her fief. His true name was unknown; he went only by the nickname “Loddin the Demon-kin.”
He was called a “Demon-kin” partly because of his ruthless methods, and partly because he was a half-blood of Demon and Human. The traits of both races were starkly blended in him. For the past century, human forces had continuously expanded their territory, and the status of other races had plummeted, especially for half-bloods. Very few, like Loddin, could make a name for themselves in human territory.
The original owner had always looked down on such mixed-breeds, so Jiao Qingyin mimicked her usual behavior, furrowing her brow in a look of utter disgust. “Get lost.”
In truth, it wasn’t just the original owner who disliked Loddin; Jiao Qingyin, having inherited the memories, disliked him too. Loddin came from the bottom. He knew exactly how hard life was for ordinary people in this era, yet after climbing up, he treated his former peers as his personal purse. Since taking over this branch of the Iris Auction House, he had engaged heavily in the slave trade, forcing people to sell their children and tearing apart countless families.
If nothing else, half the slaves in the Princess’s castle had been sourced by him—including the protagonist.
The original owner looked down on Loddin and treated him only as a useful tool; Jiao Qingyin simply didn’t want to look at him at all.
Despite Jiao Qingyin’s cold reception, the smile on Loddin’s face didn’t fade a bit. He bowed and scraped, moving to the side and waving a hand to his subordinates. Two blonde slaves were brought forward.
The moment she saw their hair color, Jiao Qingyin realized why they had been summoned. A thin, joyless smile touched her lips, but she said nothing.
“Your Highness, I am a clumsy man, so I found two sensible girls to keep you company. If you are satisfied, keep them for a bit of fun. If not, feel free to dispose of them,” Loddin said with a chuckle. His expression looked almost kind if one ignored his words.
Seeing him go on and on, Jiao Qingyin clicked her tongue. “I told you to get lost. Didn’t you hear me?”
Her reaction caught Loddin off guard. His expression froze, and his gaze shifted downward. Only then did he notice there was a white, living creature in her arms. Before he could get a closer look, Jiao Qingyin ignored him and walked arrogantly into the auction house with her retinue.
As they brushed past, Loddin suddenly felt a chill down his spine, as if someone had looked at him. That gaze was cold and ferocious; it actually triggered a racial instinct, causing the scales on his arms to stand up. He turned quickly to find the source of the gaze, but found nothing.
Jiao Qingyin was led to the original owner’s private room, which offered the best view of the entire auction floor from above. As the door opened, she had the foresight to close her eyes to avoid being blinded by the sudden glare. She also used her hand to cover Nameless’s eyes.
Nameless couldn’t help but shift, her soft fur brushing against Jiao Qingyin’s skin. It looked very much like she was acting spoiled; Jiao Qingyin’s heart and palm felt an itch simultaneously. If she weren’t mindful of the people around, she would have picked the puppy up for a kiss.
However, her rising mood was dampened as a line of attendants filed in. They brought various items—a few snacks and drinks, but mostly… various “toys” for amusement.
Two blonde slaves knelt before her, foreheads pressed to the backs of their hands. One said in a soft, silky voice, “Mr. Loddin says please enjoy yourself. If there is anything that displeases you, feel free to vent your anger on us.”
There was no anxiety or fear in her demeanor; she was far too calm. The slave was beautiful, but to Jiao Qingyin, she looked like an empty shell—she often had the same hallucination when looking at the people in her estate.
She looked away from the blonde slave, glancing at the table full of sugar-coated pastries and then at the long whip covered in barbs sitting beside them. A wave of discomfort washed over her.
“I don’t need your service. Go to the side,” she said, rejecting the slave’s sacrificial gesture.
But the girl was stunned by the order. In everything she had been taught, there was no step for what to do after being rejected. She stammered and expressed her desire to serve Jiao Qingyin once more.
Jiao Qingyin narrowed her eyes, her gaze lingering on the slave for a bit longer. Noting the vacant look in the girl’s eyes, she repeated: “I don’t need it.”
The slave trembled visibly, almost pressing her entire body into the floor, muttering under her breath: “Mr. Loddin said, Mr. Loddin said… make Her Highness happy, Mr. Loddin…”
She was clearly spiraling into a state of confusion, repeating the same few phrases. Seeing an attendant’s expression change as he prepared to step forward and drag her away, Jiao Qingyin raised a hand to stop him.
“Bring Loddin here.”
The attendant was horrified, deep fear instantly creeping onto his face. The similar reactions of the two made Jiao Qingyin let out a cold sneer.
When the plot wasn’t involved, she was always one to settle scores. She would inevitably make life miserable for those who made her feel bad. Just as she had called Nameless “puppy” after being bitten—the two of them were remarkably similar in their tendency to hold grudges.
“Five minutes,” Jiao Qingyin’s tone was as casual as if she were discussing the weather, yet it sent a chill through the room. “If he isn’t here in five minutes, he never needs to come again.”
She was determined to cause some trouble, and with her current status, she didn’t need a reason to do so.
