After the Bigshot Turned into a Gold-Digging Scumbag Alpha - Chapter 11
Jiang Shuiyun didn’t pay any attention to the reactions of the others. After finishing the meal, she carried it upstairs and knocked lightly at the door before entering.
Yi Jinbai was still sitting in the chair. When she saw Jiang Shuiyun bring in the food, she stood up and tidied the desk where the computer had been placed.
“After we finish eating, how about we go to the mall together? We need to get some new clothes, daily necessities, plus your phone and medicine.”
Jiang Shuiyun had already scoped out the room. It had a private bathroom, all the basic furniture, but was a bit lacking in daily necessities. Glancing at Yi Jinbai’s clothes, she realized she should have bought her some new clothes long ago.
“You go ahead. I won’t come.”
Jiang Shuiyun watched as Yi Jinbai lowered her head, eyes fixed on the plain white rice in her bowl. She understood that Yi Jinbai might still feel distant, even resistant toward her. The wounds from the past were real, and it wasn’t realistic to expect Yi Jinbai to believe she had completely changed after just a couple of days. Still, a trip to the mall was necessary.
“You really should come with me. I have no experience buying these things, don’t know what to get, and might forget something. Then we’d have to come back again, which would be even more troublesome.”
Her words were honest—and more importantly, she didn’t even know her own current clothing size, let alone what would suit Yi Jinbai.
After a brief hesitation, Yi Jinbai nodded, and the decision was made.
A faint smile appeared on Jiang Shuiyun’s face as she occasionally glanced at Yi Jinbai quietly eating her meal.
It had to be said: Yi Jinbai’s skin was fair, her features delicate and cool. Even among Omegas, she was striking—enough to make the original owner’s heart flutter at first sight, prompting a forced marriage. Unfortunately, the original owner had failed to cherish her.
“Is there something on my face?”
Yi Jinbai’s voice snapped Jiang Shuiyun out of her daydream. Slightly flustered, she shook her head. “No. I wasn’t looking at you. I was thinking about how to train them this afternoon and got a little distracted.”
Having over-explained in a way that almost revealed too much, Jiang Shuiyun lowered her head and focused on her meal, careful not to glance at Yi Jinbai again—though she didn’t notice the faint blush on Yi Jinbai’s face.
After a particularly quiet meal, Jiang Shuiyun efficiently cleared the dishes, avoiding Yi Jinbai’s gaze, and headed out with the items. “There should be a team car downstairs. I’ll drive it up and pick you up. Wait a moment.”
Only after stepping outside did Jiang Shuiyun finally exhale, feeling a bit annoyed at herself for staring at Yi Jinbai earlier—so rude.
Shaking her head, she put the dishes in the kitchen and took the keys, which Xi Rong had shown her, down to the underground garage to start the car.
Yi Jinbai flexed her ankles and stood up; she was mostly fine. Walking carefully, she made her way toward the elevator—she couldn’t let Jiang Shuiyun drive off and then have to come back up to fetch her.
Standing at the elevator, Yi Jinbai was soon joined by Yao Yao Ling, who hurried over and gave her a careful once-over. “What a coincidence! We’re going to be roommates. I’m Yao Yao Ling—nice to meet you.”
“Yi Jinbai.”
Yi Jinbai felt slightly uneasy about Yao Yao Ling’s overbearing social energy, but she still nodded politely.
“Yi Jinbai.” Yao Yao Ling’s eyes twinkled mischievously. She leaned closer, making a playful hand gesture like a miniature wedding bow. “You and Jiang Shuiyun are a pair, right?”
Yi Jinbai’s face flushed lightly. She nodded subtly. Luckily, the elevator had arrived. “Maybe you should go first, I.”
“Let’s go together! Your legs aren’t in great shape, so I’ll help you. We can chat properly, too. But seriously, with Jiang Shuiyun’s annoyingly off-putting attitude, how did you end up liking her? Apart from her face, does she have any other merits? Or are you strictly into looks? Oh, and what happened to your leg? I know a few good orthopedic doctors.”
True to Yao Yao Ling’s chatterbox nature, from helping Yi Jinbai into the elevator to descending from the third floor to the first, Yi Jinbai barely got a word in.
Ding—the elevator doors opened, and Yi Jinbai felt a rare sense of relief. She was about to step out when her eyes met Jiang Shuiyun’s.
Jiang Shuiyun glanced at Yao Yao Ling beside Yi Jinbai, then reached out to guide Yi Jinbai closer. “Why did you come down by yourself? Your foot still shouldn’t bear weight yet.”
“I didn’t really walk—just stood in the elevator.”
Yi Jinbai held Jiang Shuiyun’s arm and waved goodbye to Yao Yao Ling.
“Catch up later, okay, jie!”
Yao Yao Ling leaned against the elevator, rolling her eyes at Jiang Shuiyun as she looked over.
Jiang Shuiyun ignored the petty provocation, helped Yi Jinbai into the car, and asked, “They still seem a bit hostile toward me. Did they say anything bad to you?”
As Jiang Shuiyun reached for the seatbelt, Yi Jinbai buckled herself in first. “No. They’re actually friendly. Since they saw my leg isn’t great, they even recommended orthopedic doctors.”
“Then it seems these kids aren’t bad at heart.”
Jiang Shuiyun fastened her own seatbelt, started the car, and soon had the navigation set for the mall. Though the car was slightly different from what she’d used in her previous life, it was simple enough that she quickly figured it out.
Yi Jinbai glanced at her in the rearview mirror, feeling slightly puzzled. “These kids, Yao Yao Ling and the others? They’re only a couple of years younger than Jiang Shuiyun, right?”
Yi Jinbai’s gaze flickered briefly, but Jiang Shuiyun, focused on driving, didn’t notice.
The downtown mall wasn’t far from the villa district, and soon they arrived.
After parking, Jiang Shuiyun and Yi Jinbai first went to a clothing store. Jiang Shuiyun had never cared much about fashion; she casually picked out two neat, simple outfits for herself, so quickly that the sales assistant could barely keep up. Just like that, she had finished selecting her own clothes.
Once that was done, Jiang Shuiyun turned to helping Yi Jinbai. A white tulle dress in the display window immediately caught her eye—it seemed perfectly suited to Yi Jinbai at first glance.
“Miss, you really have an eye for fashion! This is our newest design, the designer’s pride and joy.”
As Jiang Shuiyun inspected the dress, the sales assistant finally caught up and eagerly began explaining.
Yi Jinbai, sitting in a chair and watching Jiang Shuiyun, followed her movements with her eyes. She saw Jiang Shuiyun speaking to the assistant, who then carried several garments over and placed them in Jiang Shuiyun’s hands.
“Did anything catch your eye?”
Jiang Shuiyun sat down next to Yi Jinbai. She knew that what she picked might not suit Yi Jinbai’s tastes, so it was better to let her choose for herself.
Yi Jinbai had barely looked at the clothes all morning, so she honestly shook her head.
“In that case, why don’t you try the ones I picked? If they don’t fit, we can choose again.”
Jiang Shuiyun waved at the sales assistant, who stepped forward to hand over the clothes.
Yi Jinbai hesitated when she saw the high-end garments, but Jiang Shuiyun didn’t give her a chance to refuse. “Then let’s just buy them all. You’ll need some clothes to change into anyway.”
“That’s too much.”
Yi Jinbai wanted to protest that such expensive clothes weren’t necessary, but with the sales assistant nearby, she didn’t dare.
“No worries. Let’s just get these for now. I might be busy later, and who knows when we’ll come back next time?”
Jiang Shuiyun glanced at the time. “That’s settled, then. Please make sure they’re all in the correct sizes for this young lady.”
“Of course, please wait a moment.”
The sales assistant went to fetch the correct sizes. Jiang Shuiyun stood, asking Yi Jinbai to wait while she paid.
In total, Jiang Shuiyun bought two outfits for herself, six for Yi Jinbai, plus two sets of pajamas and loungewear—enough for now.
After paying, Jiang Shuiyun realized carrying all these packages while helping Yi Jinbai would be impossible. Fortunately, the store offered delivery; she left her address, and the clothes would be delivered that afternoon.
This made things much easier. Jiang Shuiyun continued shopping with Yi Jinbai, floor by floor, from clothing to daily necessities, even picking out a new phone for her.
“Anything else you need?”
Jiang Shuiyun carried two small bags and supported Yi Jinbai with one hand. She felt they had everything they needed.
Yi Jinbai pressed her lips together, her cheeks slightly flushed, but after a moment’s hesitation, she shook her head. She could order things like supplements online.
Since Yi Jinbai didn’t mention anything else, Jiang Shuiyun handed her the bank card they had received when signing the contract that morning. It contained the portion of her salary that Shengguang Group had prepaid—five hundred thousand.
“The password is six zeros. Keep this. Buy whatever you need yourself—just in case I forget something.”
“I can’t.”
Yi Jinbai was taken aback that Jiang Shuiyun had handed her the bank card so readily and felt a little overwhelmed.
“You should. Keeping it with me isn’t much use anyway.”
Jiang Shuiyun slipped the card into Yi Jinbai’s coat pocket. “All right, I’ve scheduled training for 1:30. Let’s head back, or we won’t have enough time.”
Jiang Shuiyun rarely changed her mind, so Yi Jinbai had no choice but to accept the card.
By the time they returned to the base villa, it was already 1:00 p.m., and the items they had purchased were being delivered. Jiang Shuiyun organized everything systematically, then helped Yi Jinbai upstairs. At 1:30, they went down, where the five teammates were already waiting at the computers on the first floor.
Rolling up her sleeves, Jiang Shuiyun tied her long hair into a simple ponytail and sat at the lead position.
“I believe Yao Yao Ling has already informed you of my plans. This afternoon, we have only two tasks: first, I will go one-on-one with each of you in your preferred game positions. If I win all of you, I call the shots here. If I lose, I forfeit my role as team captain. Second, well, we’ll deal with that after I win. Now, let’s start. Who wants to go first?”
