Chapter 90: I’ll show you something awesome
Shen Qingyu didn’t even have time to think much before Cheng Che pulled him to sit down in his lap. Looking down slightly, he could see Cheng Che’s bloodshot eyes, fueled by excitement and arousal. He said nervously, “Your parents are home, we…”
“It’s okay, we’ll just be quiet,” Cheng Che coaxed him. “Besides, my parents’ room is all the way across the living room. If we’re quiet, they won’t hear us.”
Shen Qingyu reluctantly endured everything. It seemed having an energetic boyfriend with great stamina wasn’t entirely a good thing. He felt like a peeled orange, a navel orange, at that.
Although he tried to control his volume, he still made quite a bit of noise. Worried that Cheng Che’s parents might hear, his eyes brimmed with hot tears. He covered his mouth and even had to bite his lip to keep the sounds of passion from escaping. Yet, the more he did this, the more aroused Cheng Che became.
It wasn’t until midnight that Cheng Che carried Shen Qingyu to clean up. He fell into a deep sleep, enveloped in the warm water. He was completely unaware that after he fell asleep, Cheng Che quietly gazed at him and then placed a gentle, cherishing kiss on him.
The next day, Shen Qingyu actually slept until eleven o’clock. When he saw the time on his phone, he wanted to knock himself out. Who sleeps that late when staying over at someone else’s house? And Cheng Che hadn’t even woken him up…
Shen Qingyu buried his head in the quilt, taking a deep breath. Only when he couldn’t hold it anymore did he slowly emerge, exposing half his face to breathe.
When Cheng Che pushed the door open, he saw Shen Qingyu lying in bed with a tearful expression and couldn’t help but chuckle softly.
Hearing the laughter, Shen Qingyu glared at him resentfully: “Why didn’t you wake me up…”
“My mom said not to bother you and to let you sleep until you were fully rested,” he sat on the edge of the bed and gently stroked Shen Qingyu’s hair. “Are you rested now?”
Shen Qingyu climbed out of the quilt and looked down, seeing the hickeys on his chest. He immediately blushed fiercely. Fortunately, Cheng Che hadn’t left the marks in conspicuous places, otherwise, he wouldn’t know how to explain so many “mosquito bites” suddenly appearing after one night of sleep.
“I’ll help you get dressed.” His clothes were neatly folded nearby. Cheng Che shook the clothes, ready to help him put them on.
Shen Qingyu thought he wasn’t a baby and didn’t need help dressing, but as soon as he straightened up, he felt a sharp ache. It was as if his entire lower body didn’t belong to him, and his knees were chafed and swollen. Shen Qingyu paused, then obediently let him help him put on his clothes.
Cheng Che’s mother was preparing lunch, and the aroma of food wafted through the air. Shen Qingyu rubbed his lower back and slowly walked out to greet her.
“Good afternoon, Auntie.”
“Awake now?” Cheng Che’s mother smiled gently, then looked at Cheng Che, who was standing behind Shen Qingyu, a slight tone of accusation in her voice, “Did you keep Xiao Yu up too late last night?”
Cheng Che coughed twice and rubbed the back of his neck: “It wasn’t that late, was it?”
“Nonsense. I heard Xiao Yu screaming past two in the morning,” Cheng Che’s mother glared at him, her expression a little stern.
Shen Qingyu instantly froze, staring blankly at Cheng Che’s mother, his lips opening and closing without a word: “…”
Cheng Che looked equally startled and didn’t speak for a long time.
“Were you two watching a horror movie last night? Those things are too scary. You shouldn’t watch them. You should have respect for ghosts and spirits,” Cheng Che’s mother rubbed Shen Qingyu’s hair. “Were you scared last night? Cheng Che must have dragged you to watch it with him. Next time he does that, tell me, and I’ll discipline him for you.”
Shen Qingyu let out a forced laugh and nodded: “Okay.”
His mind had been blank for a terrifying moment or two. He had almost thought that the sounds he and Cheng Che made last night had been discovered by Cheng Che’s mother. Fortunately, she only thought they were watching a horror movie.
Shen Qingyu felt relieved, but a shadow still lingered in his heart, leaving him feeling uneasy and palpitated.
Will I have to live in this constant state of anxiety?
He didn’t stay long at the Cheng house. After lunch, he said goodbye and left.
He had contacted his aunt yesterday. His aunt’s mother-in-law’s condition had improved, and she had been moved out of the ICU. His aunt also asked when he would come over for a meal to make up for the New Year’s Eve dinner they missed. So, Shen Qingyu bought several items and carried them to his aunt’s house.
His aunt cooked a large table full of all of Shen Qingyu’s favorite dishes. While talking about running around the hospital in the previous days, Shen Qingyu noticed many fine lines around her eyes. He made a mental note to buy his aunt some skincare products in the next couple of days.
“In half a month, your younger cousin will be having his wedding. In a blink of an eye, he’s reached the age to marry. Time flies,” his aunt sighed with emotion. “What about you? Have you met any suitable girls at school?”
Shen Qingyu was momentarily stunned and didn’t speak.
“You have such a mild and somewhat soft personality. You’re too gentle. You should find a strong-willed girl. Then you can just listen to your wife,” his aunt laughed. “You’re not young anymore. There are so many girls at your school. If you meet someone you like, don’t be shy. Actively pursue her. Your uncle chased me relentlessly at school before I finally agreed.”
The smile on Shen Qingyu’s face was beginning to feel forced. He interrupted his aunt: “It’s fine if I don’t get married, right? I feel quite good the way things are now.”
His aunt’s expression immediately changed. “How can that be? If you stay single your whole life, your parents would crawl out of their graves to scold me for being an inadequate aunt.”
Shen Qingyu felt a little disappointed. He tried his best not to show his feelings in front of his aunt, but he couldn’t help but feel sad about what she said.
His aunt’s view seemed reasonable. As an elder, it was understandable that she hoped Shen Qingyu would enter a suitable marriage with a woman. But the problem was that Shen Qingyu simply didn’t like girls.
It had started snowing heavily outside at some point. Shen Qingyu turned his head to watch the snowflakes for a while, not hearing what else his aunt said. It was probably just about how “my task will be complete when you marry and have children.” In truth, no one had assigned her this “task,” but since Shen Qingyu was orphaned, his aunt, as his only relative, naturally took on what she perceived as her obligation.
Shen Qingyu never blamed his aunt for having such thoughts.
“The snow is getting heavy, Xiao Yu. Why don’t you stay and sleep here tonight? You can squeeze in with your younger cousin,” his aunt asked with a gentle smile.
Shen Qingyu felt awkward. “It’s okay, Auntie. It’s not far from my place, I’ll just go back and sleep.”
“My cousin is about to start his final year of high school soon, I’m sure sleeping in the same room with him would distract his studies,” Shen Qingyu added.
His aunt saw that Shen Qingyu didn’t want to stay, so she didn’t insist. Instead, she turned and packed him a few steamed buns she had made that morning: “Don’t get lazy living alone. If you want something to eat, make it or buy it yourself. If all else fails, just come here to eat. We have plenty of food. You eat like a little bird.”
Shen Qingyu chuckled foolishly, put on his down jacket, and left.
It seemed even the heavens were looking out for him; the snow stopped shortly after he walked out the door. The snow on the ground was thick, crunching beneath his feet. Shen Qingyu walked slowly, but he didn’t feel cold at all. Instead, he found the air after the snowfall refreshing and wanted to stay outside a little longer.
His phone vibrated a few times in his pocket. Shen Qingyu looked and saw a message from Lu Xiao with only four simple words: “Are you free?”
Shen Qingyu hesitated for a moment, then replied with a simple “Yes.”
The next second, a video call came in. When connected, Lu Xiao’s handsome, sharp face appeared on the screen. He was standing outside, his face and ears red from the cold:
“Shen Qingyu, I’ll show you something awesome.”
Shen Qingyu hadn’t reacted yet, only hearing the pride in his tone. The camera flipped, and Shen Qingyu suddenly saw a round snowman appear in his sight. He paused for two seconds, then asked in surprise: “Did you build that?”
He leaned closer to the screen, carefully examining the slightly goofy snowman, and smiled knowingly: “It’s cute. It looks a little silly.”
“Do you know who this is?” Lu Xiao said proudly.
“It’s just a snowman, isn’t it?”
“No, it’s you.”
Shen Qingyu said helplessly: “How does this snowman look like me? Do you think I’m that fat?”
“No, you’re not fat. You’re adorable.”
Shen Qingyu hadn’t finished looking when Lu Xiao aimed the camera at himself and the snowman again, even flashing a peace sign: “How about that? I’m amazing, right?”
“Amazing, truly amazing.” Shen Qingyu’s hands were red from the cold. He rubbed his nose and asked: “How long did it take you to build that snowman?” He suddenly wanted to build a little snowman downstairs, too.
Lu Xiao answered vaguely: “A few hours, maybe. Don’t bother building one yourself, it’s too cold.”
Shen Qingyu smiled slightly: “Aren’t you cold then? You’re wearing so little. It must be almost -20°C outside right now.”
“I’m not cold. My body is strong,” Lu Xiao said. Just as he finished speaking, he suddenly sneezed. He awkwardly changed the subject: “Why are you outside? Are you on another date with Cheng Che?”
Shen Qingyu didn’t answer his question, but instead asked: “Aren’t you outside, too?”
Lu Xiao scoffed: “I’m just in my own yard. Do you want to come over and play?” He showed Shen Qingyu his large yard, but all Shen Qingyu could focus on was the large villa that flashed across the screen.
“No, thank you.”
“Do you want this snowman?” Lu Xiao suddenly became excited. He picked up his phone and went back inside the villa to change clothes. “I’ll go to your place and build one for you.”
Shen Qingyu honestly couldn’t keep up with his line of thinking, looking confused: “What?”
“I’m coming to your house now. I’ll show you how awesome I am.”
“Don’t… you…”
“Let me ask you, can Cheng Che build this snowman for you? Definitely not, right?” Lu Xiao said. “Remember this. This point needs to be added to my score.”
The call quickly ended. Shen Qingyu stared blankly at his phone for a moment. He thought seriously for a moment, not understanding why Lu Xiao was assigning points to himself, like a kindergarten child aspiring for a little red star.
The corner of Shen Qingyu’s mouth curled up, and his steps in the snow became light and bouncy.
Lu Xiao was very fast. He said he would build a snowman downstairs at Shen Qingyu’s house, and he actually came. He even brought his own tools, which left the children playing house nearby stunned. Some lively kids even proactively offered to help. Shen Qingyu stood aside and watched them play, and naturally heard Lu Xiao’s refusal:
“No, this is a snowman Big Brother is building for someone he likes. You can’t help.”
“Why not?”
Shen Qingyu looked at his red ears, and a faint ripple stirred in his heart. He also wanted to hear how Lu Xiao would answer.
“Because… this represents my whole heart,” Lu Xiao said earnestly.
“Big Brother, what does ‘whole heart’ mean?”
Lu Xiao pouted and waved his hand: “You don’t need to know. Go play on the side.”
