Chapter 71: “Size is confirmed, now we need to test the endurance…”
Shen Qingyu and Cheng Che entered a period of non-actual cold war.
They still ate breakfast together, went to class together, and went to the library together, but Shen Qingyu could feel a significant difference from before. Even Chen Qiming noticed the awkwardness between them and probed Shen Qingyu for information.
But Shen Qingyu didn’t know what to say and could only vaguely brush him off.
There was an invisible barrier between him and Cheng Che, and this was exactly what Lu Xiao wanted to see.
Cheng Che seeing the wallpaper was an accident, and Lu Xiao hadn’t expected such a significant effect. He wickedly hoped Cheng Che and Shen Qingyu would break up quickly, and it had to be Shen Qingyu dumping him, so he could strike while the iron was hot and offer comfort to the heartbroken Shen Qingyu.
Unfortunately, Cheng Che would not let his scheme succeed. Shen Qingyu hadn’t done anything wrong, and even if Cheng Che was upset, he wouldn’t take it out on Shen Qingyu. So Cheng Che could only process his emotions alone. He was afraid of affecting Shen Qingyu, but he didn’t realize that from Shen Qingyu’s perspective, they were in a “cold war.”
Shen Qingyu certainly knew Cheng Che was unhappy, but he truly didn’t know how to console people. After brooding for a long time, he called Yang Yu out and treated him to the cafeteria’s Chicken Pot.
Yang Yu rubbed his full, round belly after eating, noticing Shen Qingyu’s distraction. “Spill it. What do you need me for?”
“What could I need? Can’t I just want to see you?” Shen Qingyu said guiltily.
“You’re in the honeymoon phase right now. Ditching your boyfriend to meet me must mean something important.” As someone experienced in relationships, Yang Yu understood Shen Qingyu’s current thoughts well. He speculated, “I’m guessing, did you two have a fight?”
Shen Qingyu was taken aback. “How did you figure that out?”
“That’s called experience.” Yang Yu said proudly. “Hurry up and tell me.”
Shen Qingyu hesitated for a moment, then told him the story of the summer vacation, where he and Lu Xiao traveled out of town, stayed in the same room, and had a photo secretly taken. “A couple of days ago, Cheng Che accidentally saw that photo as Lu Xiao’s phone wallpaper. They fought, and I told him about the trip. He’s still mad…”
After listening to the whole story, Yang Yu was excited: “That’s too thrilling! Two jock heartthrobs fighting over you. That should be carved on your tombstone!”
Shen Qingyu: “…”
“But Cheng Che doesn’t need to be mad, does he? You weren’t together back then, and Lu Xiao only took the photo secretly. As your boyfriend, he can take photos with you openly,” Yang Yu said calmly. “He’s just jealous. Just cheer him up a little.”
Shen Qingyu was eager for knowledge: “How should I cheer him up?”
“That’s easy, isn’t it? Get him a small gift, then some kissing, hugging, and some gentle whining.” Yang Yu’s hand playfully stroked Shen Qingyu’s cheek. “I don’t believe anyone can resist a face like yours.”
Shen Qingyu bit his lip, contemplating the feasibility of this suggestion.
“But I usually don’t do that. It’s too sappy,” Yang Yu said.
“Then what do you usually do?”
“There’s no anger that can’t be solved by a single romp,” Yang Yu said, shaking his head and sounding like an old sage. “If there is, then do two.”
Shen Qingyu: “…”
“But considering you’re still a virgin, this move won’t work for you. If you want to experience it, I can pass on some exclusive tips.”
Yang Yu’s words were explosive. Shen Qingyu repeatedly tried to cover his mouth to make him quiet down. There were people all around; how could he say such things without batting an eye?
“The first time will definitely hurt a bit, so you need to be mentally prepared and get your tools ready in advance.”
Shen Qingyu’s cheeks were flushed, alarmingly hot. He lowered his head, his fringe covering half his eyes, and whispered, “We haven’t been together for long. This is too fast!”
“Most gay guys are this straightforward, okay?” Yang Yu’s tone was casual, and he was a little confused about why Shen Qingyu was so pure. But then he thought, it was normal; he didn’t know about this area and had never dated before, like a blank slate. “My current boyfriend and I did it in the second week of dating. I care a lot about the experience in that area. If it’s not compatible, it’s better to break up sooner.”
“Huh?”
“Think about it. If the sex isn’t compatible, the relationship will eventually have problems!” Yang Yu reached out and tapped his nose. “Aren’t you afraid Cheng Che might not be any good?”
At the mention of this, Shen Qingyu’s mind inexplicably flashed back to what happened at his house that day. His face flushed even more, the heat spreading to his ears, neck, and even his chest.
“Impossible!” Shen Qingyu raised his eyebrows, his tone absolutely firm. But soon, he deflated, saying somewhat shyly, “He should be… quite good.”
Yang Yu caught the key information, raising an eyebrow curiously: “You know this? Did you two already…”
Shen Qingyu’s heart raced.
“Have some peripheral activities?!”
“No, no.” Shen Qingyu quickly denied it. “It’s just that I accidentally fell onto him before, and I felt like he was probably quite…”
“Quite large,” Yang Yu finished for him.
Shen Qingyu softly “Mhm’d.”
“But actually, that doesn’t mean much. He’s so tall, of course, he’s big! Where else would all that nutrition go?”
“…”
“Size is confirmed, now we need to test the endurance.” Yang Yu finally remembered to be discreet at this point, glancing around, and then asked in a low voice, “Do you want to know how to test it?”
Shen Qingyu was stunned for two seconds. He neither nodded nor shook his head, staring blankly at him.
Yang Yu leaned close to his ear, “I suggest you can try this…”
His words were very vivid. Shen Qingyu’s mind was already playing out the scene. He covered his burning cheeks and said in a muffled voice, “I came to talk to you about serious stuff. Why did it turn into this again!”
Yang Yu was amused by his sudden accusation and gently pinched his ticklish spot. “I was only telling you because I saw you were interested, okay?”
Shen Qingyu lowered his eyelids, thinking, Indeed, Yang Yu knows me too well!
Yang Yu laughed heartily at his embarrassed look. “Alright, alright, I won’t tease you anymore. Seriously, instead of overthinking here, why don’t you directly ask Cheng Che what he’s mad about, or what you need to do to make him feel better. Communication is the best way to solve problems. Just listen to my ‘bad ideas’ and forget about them.”
Shen Qingyu nodded thoughtfully.
After parting ways with Yang Yu, Shen Qingyu wandered around campus alone for a long time. The evening wind brought a touch of coolness, scattering some of the heat on his cheeks. He repeatedly pondered Yang Yu’s words. Although the “one-romp” advice was too scandalous, the core idea was right—he needed to actively break the barrier.
He took out his phone and opened his chat with Cheng Che. The conversation still stopped at that morning, where Cheng Che routinely asked: “What do you want for breakfast? I’ll go buy it.”
And he replied: “Anything is fine. The same as yours.” Dry and lifeless.
Shen Qingyu took a deep breath, his fingers quickly typing on the screen: [Are you free tonight? Want to go for a walk on the track?]
He thought it would take a while to get a reply, but unexpectedly, Cheng Che seemed to have a telepathic connection with him, or had been waiting for his message. Within a few seconds of sending the message, Cheng Che replied:
[Good]
Shen Qingyu instantly felt revived. Cheng Che’s attitude gave him great confidence.
[Shen Qingyu: I just finished dinner with Yang Yu. I’ll come find you.]
[Cheng Che: I’m at the gym.]
Shen Qingyu jogged all the way to meet him. The gymnasium was a bit far from his current location, but Shen Qingyu didn’t feel tired running there. The cool breeze lifted his fringe, revealing his clear forehead. As the gymnasium got closer, Shen Qingyu also felt a slight nervousness. He paused, standing still to think about how he should comfort him later.
Just then, a figure appeared in Shen Qingyu’s line of sight.
Cheng Che was standing by the entrance of the gymnasium. His appearance immediately drew the attention of passing students, but he remained calm under their gaze, looking down at his phone for a moment before putting it in his pocket and looking around.
His figure looked a bit lonely in the darkening twilight. Shen Qingyu steadied himself and walked toward him.
“You’re here.” Cheng Che’s voice was a little hoarse.
“Mhm.” Shen Qingyu walked over and stopped beside him, maintaining a half-arm’s distance between them. He was still clutching his phone tightly, his palm slightly sweaty.
Silence spread between the two, faster than the night descending.
Finally, Cheng Che spoke first. He turned his head, looking at the scattered lights illuminating the distant teaching buildings, his tone calm: “Are you cold wearing that?”
Shen Qingyu shook his head, saying he wasn’t cold. He looked at Cheng Che’s outfit. An ordinary hoodie with a large coat looked like high-end street wear on him, very handsome.
Noticing the sweat on his forehead, Shen Qingyu guessed he must have been playing basketball in the gym and that’s why he wasn’t wearing much.
“What about you? You’re wearing so little. Be careful not to catch a cold.” As he spoke, Shen Qingyu proactively reached out and carefully grasped his hand.
Cheng Che’s body stiffened for a moment, then he squeezed back, intertwining his fingers with Shen Qingyu’s.
This seemed to be the first time they had walked hand-in-hand so openly on campus. At this moment, the stares of others didn’t matter. Shen Qingyu just wanted to hold his hand tightly, letting him feel his warmth.
“I know you’re very angry… I also didn’t expect him to take my photo and use it as wallpaper, but…” Shen Qingyu urgently tried to explain, his words a little messy.
Cheng Che couldn’t bear to hear him say that. His heart felt as if someone was fiercely pinching it, both sour and painful. He interrupted Shen Qingyu, stopping his steps, but gripping his hand tighter. Shen Qingyu felt a little pain but didn’t resist, just letting him hold his hand like that.
“Xiao Yu, that’s not what I’m mad about.” Cheng Che’s deep gaze rested on his face.
“Then… what are you mad about?” Shen Qingyu asked, bewildered.
Cheng Che sighed, the sound carried away by the wind, almost inaudible.
“I’m mad that this matter came to me from Lu Xiao, and in such a way. I’m mad that in your past life, there was a period I didn’t participate in, a period with someone else who had designs on you. And I’m even madder at myself. I know it’s not your fault, but I can’t stop imagining the scene at that time, imagining if Lu Xiao had been more despicable, or if you had even a tiny bit of affection for him, would the outcome have been different…”
His tone was still restrained, but his words revealed anxiety and possessiveness.
Shen Qingyu lowered his eyes, quietly listening to him speak.
“I don’t know how to process this emotion,” Cheng Che laughed self-mockingly. “I’m afraid if I show it, you’ll think I’m petty and don’t trust you, so I can only bottle it up. I never wanted a cold war with you. How could I bear to…”
So that’s what it was. The worry that had hung over Shen Qingyu’s heart finally settled peacefully. It wasn’t blame, but simply because he cared too much.
“I’m sorry,” Shen Qingyu apologized earnestly.
The streetlights suddenly came on, casting two shadows, one long and one short. The light enveloped them. The silent air infinitely amplified the sound of the wind and his heartbeat.
Shen Qingyu stood on his tiptoes, carefully kissing Cheng Che on the jawline.
Cheng Che was too tall; even standing on his toes, Shen Qingyu could only barely reach there.
Cheng Che let out a low sigh. He gently embraced Shen Qingyu, his chin resting on the top of his head, his nose filled with a fruity scent—the shampoo Shen Qingyu always used. Cheng Che’s heart was instantly filled with satisfaction and happiness. He murmured, “It’s not your fault. You don’t need to apologize.”
