Chapter 44: “I won’t do anything to you.”…
Lu Xiao was extremely efficient. With lightning speed, he booked the flights and hotel, so fast that Shen Qingyu couldn’t help but gasp. If Lu Xiao applied this effort to his studies, he might even rank first in his major.
Shen Qingyu didn’t tell anyone he was going on a trip. Even when Xu Niansheng invited him to hang out during his break, he refused, claiming he had to visit his aunt.
He wasn’t good at lying, so he felt very guilty when making excuses, terrified that Xu Niansheng would notice something strange.
Fortunately, Xu Niansheng was naturally carefree and didn’t take it to heart, though he felt a little regretful. But there would be many more opportunities to hang out together.
On Tuesday, after clocking out from the clothing store, Shen Qingyu went home, wheeled out the suitcase he had packed earlier, and changed his clothes.
Lu Xiao was waiting downstairs, sending message after message urging him to hurry. But Shen Qingyu remained unhurried, as he needed to check everything carefully to ensure he had all the necessary documents like his ID and student card.
After his careful inspection, he finally replied to Lu Xiao’s message just before heading downstairs.
Before receiving Shen Qingyu’s reply, Lu Xiao was frantic. He was close to rushing upstairs to find Shen Qingyu. It wasn’t just his impatience; he was worried Shen Qingyu might suddenly back out.
The next second, he received the message that Shen Qingyu was already downstairs. He immediately relaxed, leaning against the car door with his hands in his pockets, and even put on sunglasses. He looked strikingly handsome on the ordinary street.
Lu Xiao was confident that he was the most eye-catching person in the crowd. Of course, he only wanted to capture Shen Qingyu’s attention.
He had specifically dressed up.
Last time, Shen Qingyu mentioned he always wore black, which absorbed heat under the sun. That day, he went home and bought a large selection of brightly colored, flashy clothes. He was a little disgusted by them but managed to select two or three items.
Shen Qingyu exited the building, dragging his suitcase down the stairs, and saw Lu Xiao showing off from a distance.
He looked different today. This was the first time Shen Qingyu had seen him wear a sky-blue short-sleeved shirt with a brand name printed on it in a slightly darker blue. He paired it with washed, distressed denim jeans and swapped his usual running shoes for white canvas shoes, making him look very much like a typical university student.
However, the aura he exuded didn’t quite match his youthful, vibrant outfit.
Shen Qingyu felt he gave off the vibe of a… troublesome little wolfdog secretly wearing a little milk dog’s clothes.
Lu Xiao only posed for a few seconds before his excellent eyesight spotted Shen Qingyu. He strode forward and automatically took the suitcase from Shen Qingyu’s hand.
“I’ve been waiting for you forever. What were you doing up there, being so slow?” Lu Xiao was decisive by nature and couldn’t stand people who dawdled.
“I was checking to see if I had packed everything. Did you bring your ID and student card?”
Lu Xiao placed his suitcase in the trunk. The two suitcases lay side-by-side, one black and one white, neat and tidy, which made Lu Xiao very satisfied.
“I brought my ID. Why would I bring my student card?”
“Some scenic spots offer student discounts,” Shen Qingyu glanced at the time. Their flight was at five in the afternoon, and it was already past three. “Is your place far from here? Is there still time to go back?”
“No need. We don’t need the discount money,” Lu Xiao said casually. “Besides, some places accept electronic versions, right?”
“I think so.”
“Get in the car quickly. To the airport.” Lu Xiao opened the passenger door, and Shen Qingyu was half-pushed into the car.
Lu Xiao was still driving his black G-Wagon. Shen Qingyu had originally planned for them to take separate taxis to the airport, which would be more convenient, or else his car would have to be parked outside the airport for several days and incur extra charges.
But Lu Xiao insisted on picking him up. In his words: “Of course, we have to start a trip together! Don’t worry about the car. I’ll find someone to drive it back later.”
Such a young master’s temperament. Shen Qingyu was helpless and could only go along with him.
On the way to the airport, Shen Qingyu was both nervous and excited.
This wasn’t his first trip, but it was his first one planned in such a rush. After the college entrance exams, he and Yang Yu had traveled together in the Jiangsu and Zhejiang area for nearly two weeks. He had started researching and preparing a ten-page PDF travel guide half a month in advance.
Although they didn’t follow the guide exactly—mainly because Yang Yu preferred to be spontaneous, and Shen Qingyu indulged him—the entire trip was filled with many surprises outside the plan.
This time, with the travel decision made so hastily, he hadn’t planned anything, and Lu Xiao had even booked the flights and hotel.
This made Shen Qingyu feel a bit lost, a feeling of completely entrusting himself to Lu Xiao.
Shen Qingyu touched his rapidly beating chest, praying that this trip wouldn’t encounter any unexpected events.
“Oh, by the way, how much were the flights and hotel? I’ll transfer the money to you,” Shen Qingyu suddenly remembered he hadn’t paid him yet. He didn’t want to take advantage of anyone, so he proactively asked.
“No rush,” Lu Xiao said casually.
“…”
“Let’s settle it after we finish the trip and come back.”
That made sense. Shen Qingyu nodded in agreement. The navigation showed they still had some distance to the airport, so Shen Qingyu simply browsed a brief guide.
“Are there any specific attractions you really want to visit?”
Lu Xiao said, “I’ll follow your lead. Anything is fine with me.”
A compliant Lu Xiao was harder for Shen Qingyu to deal with than a difficult Lu Xiao. He licked his lips and said, “Then let’s just follow the order in this guide slowly.”
Lu Xiao glanced at his phone with the corner of his eye, didn’t see it clearly, but agreed readily: “Okay, we’ll do as you say.”
…
To Shen Qingyu’s relief, Lu Xiao did not book business class.
He sat next to Lu Xiao, by the window, watching the white clouds and the deep blue sky outside. His mood brightened for the first time in a long time.
Shen Qingyu slept for over an hour of the two-hour flight. When he woke up, he noticed Lu Xiao’s face was pale.
Shen Qingyu cautiously tapped his arm. “Are you airsick?”
Lu Xiao struggled to open his eyes and slowly nodded.
Shen Qingyu asked the flight attendant for a cup of warm water. “Drink some water to soothe your throat. We’re almost there.”
Lu Xiao saw a hint of distress in his eyes. Even though his head was spinning and his ears were hurting, he surprisingly felt it was somewhat worth it. His brain had never been this agile. He weakly leaned on Shen Qingyu’s shoulder, holding his breath.
“…” Shen Qingyu’s body stiffened for a moment but quickly relaxed.
Whatever, he’s uncomfortable. It’s fine to let him lean for a while.
But Shen Qingyu didn’t expect his momentary soft-heartedness to cause him a small problem.
Because Lu Xiao remained glued to him like sticky glue until they got off the plane.
“You…”
“I’m still a bit dizzy. I’m seeing double,” he said weakly.
“I…”
“Let me lean on you. I’m afraid I’ll fall.”
“You…”
“Just for a moment, just for a moment.”
Shen Qingyu stopped talking. He didn’t want to hit someone in a strange place, which would make him look too violent.
The most “magical” thing was that the seemingly weak Lu Xiao, after retrieving the checked baggage, instantly became strong again, pushing both suitcases without giving Shen Qingyu any chance to help.
A sarcastic smile played on Shen Qingyu’s lips. “Not dizzy now? You don’t need me to hold you?”
Lu Xiao coughed twice, freeing one hand to pat his chest. “I’m fully recovered now, thanks to you.”
Taking advantage of someone and being so self-righteous—so annoying.
Shen Qingyu complained internally.
He probably didn’t even realize that he was unknowingly granting Lu Xiao many privileges, and his own bottom line kept shifting further back.
They took a taxi to the hotel to check in. The hotel was conveniently located in a commercial district, close to the subway entrance, and a popular local food street was just a few hundred meters away, bustling with activity until the early morning.
Shen Qingyu pulled out his ID from his bag. The hotel receptionist confirmed their reservation information: “One Deluxe King Room.”
Shen Qingyu was about to nod but immediately realized something was wrong. He first looked in shock at Lu Xiao, who pretended to be calm but absolutely dared not meet his gaze, and then slowly and mechanically looked at the pretty receptionist lady.
Wait!
One room? King-sized bed?
Shen Qingyu scoffed, “Please hold on.”
Then he pulled Lu Xiao aside and said, “What is this about? Why didn’t you book two rooms?”
Lu Xiao said righteously, “It’s peak tourist season now, and hotels are expensive. This place has a great location and environment. It’s almost a thousand a night.”
Shen Qingyu also felt the hotel price was a bit steep. After a long hesitation, he bit the bullet and said, “I’ll pay the difference. Let’s get another room.”
Lu Xiao looked anxious. He grabbed Shen Qingyu and said, “We’re both grown men. It’s not that big of a deal, is it? I won’t do anything to you!”
He spoke a little loudly. Shen Qingyu’s peripheral vision caught the curious glances from the guests in the waiting area and the receptionist.
Shen Qingyu glared at him fiercely, shook him off, and angrily walked up to the receptionist.
It’s over!
Lu Xiao thought.
“Please help us check in, thank you,” Shen Qingyu said awkwardly.
It’s not over!
Lu Xiao thought excitedly.
The receptionist quickly processed the check-in and handed the room card to his palm: “Enjoy your stay.”
Shen Qingyu took the card and walked toward the elevator without looking back. Halfway there, he remembered his luggage was still with Lu Xiao. He paused, but for the sake of his pride, he chose not to look back.
Lu Xiao quickly followed, knowing that the best approach now was to remain silent.
With a beep, the hotel door opened. Lu Xiao placed the luggage aside and looked around the room.
The room faced south. Drawing the curtains revealed the bustling street below. The environment was very nice, and the room was much larger than Lu Xiao had expected, except… the bed was too big. If only it were a little smaller.
“Still angry?” Lu Xiao turned on the air conditioner, savoring Shen Qingyu’s soft complaint from earlier, which felt like a cornered little kitten scratching his heart.
“I’m not angry.” Actually, it’s not a huge deal for them to share a room, but the problem was… they were both gay now! “I’m going to call the front desk and ask them to send up another duvet.”
Lu Xiao glumly said, “Oh,” but thought rebelliously: A separate duvet won’t stop me.
“I won’t do anything to you,” he said.
“I know.” Shen Qingyu certainly knew that, otherwise, he wouldn’t have compromised. But he still felt that them sleeping in the same bed was a little too ambiguous!
