Chapter 14: Group Chat – “He lifted Shen Qingyu’s hand and kissed it…”
When they first enrolled, while Cheng Che tried to build a good relationship with Lu Xiao, he also thought about getting along with Song Yu. They were all roommates, bound to see each other. Talking more wouldn’t hurt. Every time he proactively asked Song Yu to go out to play basketball or grab a meal, Song Yu would calmly refuse, mostly citing that he “had to go to the library.”
Eventually, Cheng Che stopped seeking discomfort and maintained a relationship with Song Yu where they would greet each other when meeting outside, but rarely spoke in the dorm.
Yet, he actually accepted Shen Qingyu’s invitation just like that?
Not only was Cheng Che surprised, but even Lu Xiao felt that something was amiss, though he couldn’t quite put his finger on it.
Song Yu finished his sentence and went to the bathroom to wash up. Shen Qingyu happily flopped back onto his bed to continue playing on his phone, leaving Cheng Che and Lu Xiao staring at each other.
Lu Xiao glanced at Cheng Che dismissively, then let his gaze settle back on Shen Qingyu.
Shen Qingyu was sitting with his legs crossed, his ankle—small enough to be grasped with one hand—dangling and swinging. The movement, under the fluorescent light, almost made Lu Xiao unable to keep his eyes open.
Damn, he’s so tempting, he can’t stay still for a minute.
Lu Xiao struggled to calm himself down.
…
Ten minutes before lights out, the sound of rough male voices outside the door shouted in unison: “Good evening, Director!”
Before Shen Qingyu could react, Cheng Che had flipped out of bed and was hiding the forbidden items in the dorm.
“Little Yu, do you have any contraband? Our department director is here for inspection,” Cheng Che asked.
Shen Qingyu was very compliant with school regulations. He answered without hesitation: “I don’t have any.”
“Then we’re fine.”
Despite this, Shen Qingyu found it hard to relax. When he was in his old dorm in the Foreign Languages department, inspections demanded high standards of hygiene and tidiness. Sometimes, even items on the desk being slightly messy would be pointed out.
In this dorm, hygiene wasn’t an issue. Cheng Che and Song Yu were very diligent; they swept and mopped every day. Sometimes, when Shen Qingyu offered to help, they would refuse. As for tidiness… based on the pile of daily necessities stacked on Lu Xiao’s desk, it couldn’t be considered tidy at all.
Director Yuan knocked perfunctorily and then pushed the door open directly.
He wasn’t tall. Standing with the sports students, each over 1.8 meters tall, following him, he looked even more like a hobbit.
“Is everyone back?” He looked around, counting heads aloud. “Where’s Song Yu?”
Director Yuan was quite familiar with the residents of this dorm. Cheng Che frequently won sports honors for the department. Song Yu was the top student in his major. But the person who left the deepest impression was Lu Xiao, whose father donated the school’s Dexin Building. However, this didn’t mean he would give this dorm special treatment.
Song Yu, a towel draped over his head, pushed the bathroom door open: “Director.”
Director Yuan’s face broke into a happy smile upon seeing the excellent student: “Oh, he was in the bathroom. That’s good. Every time I’ve come to your dorm before, someone was missing. This is a rarity today.”
As he spoke, he made eye contact with Shen Qingyu.
“This student must be from the Foreign Languages department.”
“Good evening, Director,” Shen Qingyu replied obediently.
Director Yuan was quite satisfied with his attitude: “Although you are not a student of our department, school regulations must be followed. So, if you are in violation of anything, I certainly won’t ignore it. I’m sure Director Sun from your department would treat our students the same when conducting inspections.”
“Don’t worry, Director, I understand.”
Director Yuan wrote something in his notebook, then left with the students behind him, not forgetting to latch the dorm door shut.
Shen Qingyu excitedly asked Cheng Che: “Does your department have dorm rankings?”
Cheng Che, who usually paid little attention to such matters, thought for a moment: “I think so.”
Shen Qingyu clenched his fist and blurted out: “Yes!”
“Why are you so happy?”
“High dorm rankings can win the ‘Excellent Dorm Award,’ which adds to our comprehensive assessment score,” Shen Qingyu said eagerly. “My old dorm won the Excellent Dorm Award last semester.”
Seeing his expectant look, Cheng Che felt a little reluctant to dampen his spirits.
Lu Xiao heard this and burst out laughing: “How old are you? Still caring about little awards like that.”
Shen Qingyu was serious: “This is a collective honor, don’t you understand? At the end of the semester, those two points can determine whether or not you get the first-class scholarship.”
Although Lu Xiao didn’t fully understand, he held back and didn’t show his disdain.
…
After lights out, Shen Qingyu couldn’t sleep. Remembering the need for a dorm chat group, he proactively created one, formally naming it “917 Dorm Group.”
Then he added the other three one by one.
【Lu Xiao: ? What for】
【Shen Qingyu: From now on, dorm matters can be discussed in the group】
【Lu Xiao: Too much trouble】
【Cheng Che: Little Yu is always so thoughtful [Happy Bunny.jpg]】
【Song Yu: Okay.】
When he first added Cheng Che’s contact information, he had specifically asked if they had a group chat. He was shocked when he got a negative answer! If they didn’t have a dorm group, did they usually just talk one-on-one about everything? That was too inconvenient!
Although it seemed somewhat normal for just three people.
But having a group chat was definitely more convenient, right?
…
The next day, Lu Xiao, who complained about the “trouble,” sent more messages in the group chat than anyone else.
It was almost like flirting; whenever he was idle, he’d send a message to Shen Qingyu in the group.
During class, his phone kept vibrating, annoying Shen Qingyu so much he wanted to kick him out.
After class, Shen Qingyu went to the school courier station to pick up the shower gel he bought. Unexpectedly, he ran into Chen Qiming there.
The moment Chen Qiming saw Shen Qingyu, he switched on his chatterbox mode, talking non-stop.
Shen Qingyu actually quite liked his speaking style and thought he’d be great as a stand-up comedian.
“I have no idea what’s wrong with Brother Xiao. He actually said he’d only go to the bar on weekends from now on. I thought he was heartbroken, but he fooled me, saying something about going back to the dorm on time to try and win an ‘Excellent Dorm’ award.” He laughed, mouth wide open, as if he’d heard the biggest joke ever.
Shen Qingyu: “…”
He paused: “Doesn’t that mean your band is short a person?”
Chen Qiming rubbed his head: “At first, it was just Brother Xiao and me playing casually. The bar owner put us together. When we’re not there, other people play. You could say there are substitutes.”
“…Oh.”
“Do you think he’s in love?” Chen Qiming let his thoughts wander. “It’s highly possible.”
Shen Qingyu thought: With his temper, he probably can’t keep a girlfriend. He smiled sweetly on the surface: “I wouldn’t know.”
“I’ll ask tonight. Usually, this kind of situation is because the girlfriend demanded it. Before, a guy in my dorm used to go to the bar or surf the net every night. After he got a girlfriend, he barely left the house and was video calling every evening.” As he spoke, an envious look appeared on Chen Qiming’s face. “I wish I had a girlfriend to control me like that.”
Shen Qingyu: “…” I didn’t ask Lu Xiao to stay in the dorm!
But… he hadn’t expected Lu Xiao to actually decide to return to the dorm on time just because of his words.
A small curve appeared at the corner of Shen Qingyu’s mouth.
…
The dorm was rarely empty, and Shen Qingyu slowly took a shower. After drying the water off his body, he realized he hadn’t brought his underwear!
Perhaps Chen Qiming’s words had left a deep impression because Shen Qingyu had spent the entire shower thinking: Lu Xiao actually listened to me?
He stared at his naked self in the mirror, his face full of embarrassment. He quickly slipped on his pajamas, but the empty feeling in his lower body made him very uncomfortable. Shen Qingyu just wanted to find a pair of underwear quickly!
The sound of running water stopped. Shen Qingyu vaguely heard the dorm door being pushed open.
Someone was back!
He looked down at himself. You couldn’t actually tell he wasn’t wearing underwear, but the sense of shame was undeniable.
He pressed his ear against the door for a while. Hearing no footsteps or voices, his first thought was that he had misheard the sound of the door opening.
His anxiety finally subsided. Shen Qingyu unlocked the door, and a tall, slender figure instantly loomed over him.
Shen Qingyu’s heart suddenly “thumped” in fright: “Song Yu? Why are you back?”
A rare flash of panic crossed Song Yu’s face, but it was quickly replaced by calmness. Shen Qingyu almost thought he had imagined it.
“It’s raining,” he said flatly.
Only then did Shen Qingyu notice his hair was wet. He quickly stepped out of the bathroom to make room for him, but the water on his slippers was too much. The moment his foot touched the marble floor, he slipped, his eyes widening as he fell forward.
Song Yu froze, then quickly wrapped his arms around Shen Qingyu’s waist, pulling him into his embrace.
More embarrassing than falling into his roommate’s arms was the fact that his roommate’s hand landed right on his butt.
He knew, of course, that Song Yu saved him, or he would be “headbutting the floor” right now. But the main point was that he wasn’t wearing underwear!
Shen Qingyu closed his eyes in distress, thinking: He probably can’t tell, right? There’s still fabric separating us.
Song Yu’s palm was like a cold snake. Even through the thin layer of cloth, Shen Qingyu could feel the chill.
“Thank you… No, I’m sorry!” Shen Qingyu looked at him pitifully.
Song Yu’s Adam’s apple bobbed. Shen Qingyu was very thin, but the places that should be plump were quite full, leading to irresistible fantasies.
Moreover…
A barely perceptible smile touched his lips: “It’s fine.”
Forcing down his pounding heart, Song Yu quickly turned and fled. He was afraid if he stayed any longer, he wouldn’t be able to stop himself from doing something to Shen Qingyu.
He could, of course, feel that Shen Qingyu wasn’t wearing underwear. The sensation of his skin through a thin layer of cloth was so exquisite…
Little Yu Baby, you’re the one who came onto me this time.
Song Yu turned his back, tilting his head to greedily trace Shen Qingyu’s silhouette in his peripheral vision. The light cast Song Yu’s shadow on the floor. The shadow flickered a few times, as if a fierce beast was about to break free from its restraint and burst out of the ground.
Shen Qingyu, his hair still wet, scrambled back onto his bed, dug out a pair of underwear, then secretly pulled the curtain closed and quietly changed.
Pulling back the curtain, Song Yu was still standing below the bed. Feeling his gaze, he slowly looked up, the sense of aggression in his eyes receding like a tide.
“What’s wrong?”
His voice was airy, as if coming from a distant shore. His thin lips opened and closed. For some reason, as Song Yu gazed at him, Shen Qingyu felt a dreadful sense of terror creeping up on him.
Shen Qingyu pressed against the wall and shook his head: “Nothing.”
…
Late at night, in a state of half-sleep, he heard someone go to the bathroom and vaguely heard low, heavy breathing.
Shen Qingyu turned over, placing his hand on the guardrail, and sank back into slumber.
The fair, tender fingertips kept tempting Song Yu to approach him.
One step, two steps, three steps.
Song Yu stopped beside his bed, his gaze dark and focused, his heart aching with desire.
He lifted Shen Qingyu’s hand and kissed it.
