After the Beautiful Omega Was Targeted by His Straight Roommate - Chapter 18
Before sending the message to Qi Yuxiao, Tao Ran had struggled with himself for half an hour. He was quite worried that Qi Yuxiao would think he was being meddlesome or that he was prying into his private affairs without any sense of boundaries.
Fortunately, Qi Yuxiao did not.
Looking at the final message from Qi Yuxiao saying “returning now,” Tao Ran’s apprehensive heart finally settled.
His fingertips tapped the screen lightly to reply.
Tao Ran: [I am waiting for you in the dorm (rose)(rose)(rose)]
Tao Ran: [I have something good to give you (·v·)]
It was eight o’clock in the evening. Zhuo Qiang and Su Jiali were still in class, so he was the only one in the dormitory.
Tao Ran put down his phone. His gaze landed on a small, exquisite black-and-white cardboard gift bag standing on the desk. It still emitted a faint fragrance from when he had just received it from the shop assistant.
This tiny bottle of stuff had actually cost him fifteen hundred yuan. It was equivalent to what Tao Ran’s monthly living expenses used to be, and he felt a bit of a “flesh-aching” sting in his wallet.
Fortunately, Dr. Chi had struck it rich, and he was reaping the benefits. With his living expenses having increased so much, he could easily afford this.
Most importantly, if it could help Qi Yuxiao, then the money was well spent!
The thought of giving it to Qi Yuxiao soon made Tao Ran feel a hint of nervousness alongside his excitement.
This was the first time he had ever given a gift to a friend, and he did not know how Qi Yuxiao would react.
Tao Ran guessed that Qi Yuxiao would not be back that quickly, so he decided to take a shower first.
Twenty minutes later, Tao Ran came out of the bathroom wearing his pajamas. He had just started drying his hair when he heard the “beep” of the dormitory door—the sound of it unlocking.
The door was pushed open from the outside, and Qi Yuxiao walked in.
Today, he was wearing a black hoodie and well-tailored, stylish jeans that accentuated his long, upright figure. He looked a bit travel-worn as he entered.
“Qi Yuxiao.” Tao Ran immediately stopped what he was doing, his eyes lighting up. “You came back so fast.”
It had been less than half an hour since they finished their chat.
“I happened to be not far from the school.”
Qi Yuxiao’s gaze naturally fell upon Tao Ran’s face. That small face was flushed a faint pink from the hot water, and his lips were moist and red. That tiny labial tubercle looked like a translucent, ripe fruit, resting softly and obediently on his lower lip.
Just like its owner.
Qi Yuxiao’s gaze paused for a moment before shifting away. His voice was noticeably lower. “You said you had something to give me. What is it?”
Tao Ran put down the towel, wiped his damp hands, and then carefully picked up the gift bag from the desk to hand it to him. Unable to hide his excitement, his voice rose slightly. “This is for you. I… I bought it specifically for you.”
Qi Yuxiao’s eyes fell on Tao Ran’s hand. A flash of surprise crossed his eyes, and he paused for a few seconds before taking it. “What is it?”
“You will know once you open it.” Tao Ran’s eyes crinkled into crescents, a shallow dimple appearing on his cheek, and his eyes sparkled with light.
A smile tugged at the corner of Qi Yuxiao’s lips. He glanced into the bag, took out the gift box inside, and opened it to find a bottle of perfume from a well-known luxury brand.
His gaze paused, a hint of confusion surfacing in his deep eyes. “Why are you giving me this?”
Tao Ran, however, could not wait for him to try it. “Hurry and try it. See if you like the scent. I spent a long time carefully selecting it.”
Seeing the excitement and expectation reflecting in Tao Ran’s clear, dark eyes, Qi Yuxiao found it hard to refuse. He sprayed a bit of the perfume on the back of his hand.
“How is it?” Tao Ran was even more anxious than Qi Yuxiao. Before the perfume could even disperse into the air, he wrinkled his nose and leaned in like a puppy to sniff Qi Yuxiao’s hand.
In fact, he had already smelled it repeatedly at the boutique counter in the mall.
Tao Ran had spent hours there before finally picking a scent that was very close to his own pheromones. At the very least, he was quite satisfied with the smell himself.
Soon, the fresh scent of chamomile began to float and spread through the air. Tao Ran looked up and found that Qi Yuxiao’s expression was calm, showing no particular reaction.
Tao Ran could not help but feel a bit flustered. He looked at him with great hope: “Qi Yuxiao, what do you think? Do you like it? Do you feel sleepy or want to sleep now?”
Qi Yuxiao calmly inhaled the scent in the air.
It was a familiar herbal scent, mixed with a hint of fruit sweetness. The combination was a fresh, non-greasy, high-end fragrance.
For some reason, as he smelled this scent, he only felt it was one of thousands of perfumes, with nothing special about it.
Yet he clearly knew that when he had smelled the fragrance on Tao Ran before, the scent his senses and brain had judged and described was basically identical to this perfume.
No matter how similar the two were, there was still a one-in-a-billion difference compared to the scent on Tao Ran’s body. He only needed to sniff it lightly to feel the distinction.
But seeing Tao Ran’s nervous yet incredibly expectant eyes, Qi Yuxiao paused slightly. His Adam’s apple bobbed as he chose an easy question to answer: “I like it very much.”
“It is good that you like it.”
Seeing that Qi Yuxiao seemed quite satisfied as he accepted the gift, the heart that Tao Ran had kept suspended all evening finally settled. The last trace of nervousness on his face vanished.
He was finally able to help Qi Yuxiao with something.
Tao Ran was sincerely happy for him. “Then you will be able to sleep well from now on.”
“You bought this for me because you want it to help me sleep?” Qi Yuxiao asked.
Tao Ran nodded and looked at him with utmost sincerity: “Yes. Insomnia is truly too miserable. I hope you can get a good night’s sleep.”
Qi Yuxiao’s eyes were deep and dark, reflecting fragmented light that was difficult to decipher. When he heard Tao Ran’s answer, his expression noticeably froze.
“Try it tonight. Spray it on your bed tonight, and maybe you will be able to fall asleep.”
“Okay.”
“…”
The next morning, Tao Ran had no classes, but he naturally woke up on time at seven o’clock.
In his groggy state of consciousness, his nostrils flared slightly, and he smelled a familiar fragrance permeating the air.
Subconsciously, he thought it was the scent of the perfume he had given Qi Yuxiao. But after a few seconds, he snapped his eyes open and realized something was wrong.
This fragrance was clearly emanating from his own body.
He suddenly remembered that he had not gone running yesterday, so he had forgotten to apply the scent blocker.
Tao Ran sat up abruptly in bed.
He had been applying the blocker for a while now. He knew deep down that this thing had side effects; for example, after long-term use, the pheromones are suppressed and cannot be released, causing the concentration to double and surge in the days after stopping use.
But there was no other way. There were still several days before the physical fitness test began. If he went running and exercising at night, he would inevitably sweat, and his sweat contained even more concentrated pheromones…
This was truly a headache-inducing, contradictory problem.
Tao Ran could only temporarily plan to take a few days off after the fitness test to stay in a hotel, waiting for the side effects of the blocker to disappear and his pheromones to return to normal levels before coming back to school.
So now, he still had to get out of bed to reapply it.
Tao Ran decisively threw back the quilt and climbed down from the bed.
After finding the blocker and applying it to his gland, Tao Ran felt a bit more at ease. Just as he was about to climb back into bed for some more sleep, he happened to turn his head and saw a tall, familiar figure standing on the balcony.
Qi Yuxiao??
Tao Ran quietly walked to the balcony and called him softly, “Qi Yuxiao?”
The other party did not react.
Tao Ran asked again, “Qi Yuxiao? Did you just wake up?”
The young man’s thick eyelashes trembled. His stagnant mind was awakened by a voice as soft as a feather.
He turned around slowly. His nose keenly captured a faint wisp of fragrance floating in the air.
Familiar. Long-awaited.
The kind he could never get enough of.
The suppressed thirst in his body surged up with a fierce and unstoppable momentum. Qi Yuxiao’s throat was dry, his eyes were bloodshot, and the veins on the side of his neck were faintly visible, as if he were exerting extreme self-control.
He looked up and met Tao Ran’s eyes, which were full of concern and worry.
In that instant, the logic that had been fragile and tense due to a night of insomnia collapsed completely.
