After the Beautiful Omega Was Targeted by His Straight Roommate - Chapter 10
Dr. Chi felt a jolt and cried out, “Ouch! Why did you drop me?”
“I am sorry, I just lost my grip.” Tao Ran steadied the phone. The edge of the screen caught a glimpse of his flushed earlobe.
If Dr. Chi had not mentioned it, he would have almost pushed that embarrassing blunder to the back of his mind.
When Tao Ran first moved into the dormitory, Qi Yuxiao was already living off-campus. His impressions of this roommate were entirely formed from the descriptions of Zhuo Qiang and Su Jialiang.
To summarize: outstanding appearance, excellent academics, and a prominent family background—a true chosen son of heaven.
Tao Ran did not take it to heart at first, until one day he happened to run into Qi Yuxiao returning to the dorm to pick up some things. The two shared a brief, hurried encounter, and only then did Tao Ran realize that those exaggerated adjectives were not an overstatement when applied to Qi Yuxiao.
That day, Tao Ran had secretly messaged Dr. Chi.
Tao Ran: [I discovered that one of my roommates is very much like an S-class Alpha.]
Dr. Chi: [Raised-eyebrow.jpg]
Dr. Chi: [Tell me more.]
And so, Tao Ran rambled on incoherently and illogically about a great many things.
Tao Ran: [He is so tall. I feel like his pheromones would have that cold, indifferent scent of cedar.]
Tao Ran: [I heard he was a recommended student who got in without even taking the college entrance exam. Sigh, why is the gap between people so large?]
Tao Ran: [Yesterday, when he climbed onto his bed to find something, I accidentally saw his abs while sitting below (it really was accidental). His physique is so good. If only he could be my life drawing model.]
Tao Ran: [I feel like even the protein in his hair was meticulously encoded by God. Is such perfection really not an S-class Alpha?]
At that time, Dr. Chi was swamped with work, busy to the point of exhaustion, and could not find the time to reply. It was only a few days later when he finally had a moment to open his phone that he found Tao Ran had sent him dozens of intermittent messages, all regarding that roommate.
Dr. Chi pondered for a long while.
Dr. Chi: [It is indeed suspicious.]
Tao Ran replied instantly: [Right!]
Dr. Chi: [I think you might be approaching your heat cycle.]
Tao Ran: [???]
Dr. Chi: [An Omega in heat will subconsciously select an Alpha suitable for mating. It is normal.]
Tao Ran: [Huh?]
Dr. Chi: [But I regret to tell you that S-class Alphas are as rare as phoenix feathers or unicorn horns in our world. How could one appear here so coincidentally? I have lived here for over ten years and have only met one of our kind: you.]
Fate is such a mysterious coincidence. This sort of transmigration event, which science cannot explain, had actually happened twice.
Like Tao Ran, Dr. Chi was an Omega who had transmigrated from the ABO world. However, he had arrived much earlier, having been here for over a decade and already making a name for himself in this new world.
The day they met was precisely when Tao Ran had just crossed over. The Omega was dragging a broken, weakened body, standing on an unfamiliar street with no sense of recognition, his eyes filled with confusion and helplessness.
Dr. Chi had walked out of a convenience store and happened to take notice of Tao Ran. As they brushed past each other, he captured pheromones that were different from normal people.
Having drifted alone in a foreign world for years, meeting one of his own kind naturally stirred a sense of mutual sympathy. Thus, Dr. Chi took Tao Ran in, handled the identification papers for his undocumented status, funded his high school education, art studies, and university, and taught him the essentials for survival in this new world.
Dr. Chi was Tao Ran’s savior. Tao Ran would always be grateful to him.
Whenever he encountered a difficult problem, the first person Tao Ran thought to ask for help was Dr. Chi. Dr. Chi was older, knowledgeable, and more experienced, and he was always happy to answer questions and offer suggestions.
Though sometimes, the suggestions were not very reliable.
Dr. Chi: [I did not expect your standards to be so high. You are filtering for looks, physique, and intelligence. It seems your roommate is quite to your taste. Why not try to pursue him? Aim to have a good time during your next heat cycle.]
Tao Ran: [Terrified.jpg] [Sweating.jpg]
In public, Dr. Chi was an academic researcher who seemed devoid of worldly desires and obsessed with scientific research. In reality, the openness of his thoughts and behavior was terrifyingly vast.
After Tao Ran became an adult, the scale of Dr. Chi’s conversations shifted from a children’s cartoon channel to an X-rated adult channel, frequently broadening Tao Ran’s horizons.
Tao Ran: […]
Tao Ran replied indignantly: [I have no intention of pursuing him!!! I truly suspect he is one of our kind too!]
Tao Ran: [You do not believe me!! I will find evidence!]
The evidence was that Tao Ran actually went into heat the very next day.
Furthermore, it was more difficult to endure than any previous heat cycle. To avoid suspicion, he even specifically stayed in a hotel for a few days.
After the heat cycle ended, Dr. Chi expressed deep regret: “What a pity. Your heat came too early this time; you didn’t even have a chance to secure your roommate. But college students these days are quite open-minded, right? If you do not want a relationship, why not ask if he accepts a 419?”
It turns out that words should only be spoken to those who understand them.
Tao Ran’s level of understanding: Huh? What is a 419?
Returning from Baidu with a red face, Tao Ran could not help but marvel. Dr. Chi was indeed Dr. Chi. Putting on the white lab coat, he was a stoic scholar; taking it off, he was a midnight succubus. The former was just a job, while the latter was his true life!
Later, after a period of observation, Tao Ran had to admit that Dr. Chi was correct: Qi Yuxiao really was not an Alpha.
For some reason, after confirming this fact, Tao Ran felt a strange trace of regret in his heart.
Before he could delve into the origin of this emotion, his brain was occupied by another question.
So, why was his heat triggered that day by Qi Yuxiao, who was not an Alpha and had no pheromones?
When this question surfaced, Tao Ran was terrified. But he did not dare think about it carefully or investigate deeply, fearing what he might conclude. He also did not dare ask Dr. Chi, fearing it would invite more of his suggestive teasing.
As time piled up, Tao Ran had almost forgotten the matter. Who would have thought that Dr. Chi would suddenly bring it up, forcing him to recall this shameful memory?
Tao Ran paused, picking a few choice words in his mind, and answered slowly, “I think… we should be considered friends now.”
The frequency of Qi Yuxiao returning to the dorm had increased significantly lately. Previously, they wouldn’t see each other even once a week, but now he stayed overnight in the dorm three or four nights a week. When staying with Qi Yuxiao, Tao Ran no longer felt his former nervousness and awkwardness. They now interacted like ordinary roommates.
One night, Qi Yuxiao’s pillow was damaged, and Tao Ran had even offered his own throw pillow for him to use temporarily. Qi Yuxiao looked at the yellow Spongebob Squarepants pillow for a few seconds before graciously accepting it and saying thank you.
This gave Tao Ran a slight sense of achievement.
Friends help each other out, right? So they should be considered friends.
However, he did not know if Qi Yuxiao had forgotten to buy a new one, because several days had passed, and his Spongebob pillow was still lying quietly on Qi Yuxiao’s bed.
“Mm-hmm?” Dr. Chi smiled upon hearing this and raised an eyebrow. “That is progress. Then aim to win him over before your next heat cycle!”
“!”
Afraid that Dr. Chi would make some bold statement in the dorm on a whim, Tao Ran awkwardly and stiffly changed the subject. “By the way… Dr. Chi, why did you suddenly think to video call me today?”
“Oh.” Dr. Chi also remembered today’s purpose. “I sent you a package from Country A. It should arrive tomorrow. Remember to go pick it up.”
“What kind of package?”
Dr. Chi adjusted his glasses conservatively and raised his brows. “My latest research achievement.”
“Did you not say your pheromone fluctuations have been quite large lately? I just happened to formulate a bottle of medicine. The formula is based on my memory of pheromone blockers.”
A blocker?!
Tao Ran’s eyes lit up instantly, and he almost jumped with joy. “A blocker? Does it serve the purpose I am thinking of?”
“Exactly the one you are thinking of.” Dr. Chi nodded and said, “Omega pheromone blockers and suppressants are divided into adult and minor versions. There is a big difference in the ingredient lists. I was already an adult when I crossed over, so I only remember the adult formula, which is why I did not dare give it to you before.”
He added rigorously, “However, I have regressed for many years, and I have not formulated or used the adult version in a long time. Although the formula in my memory is correct, medicinal ingredients have been updated over the years. I do not know if it will still be effective now that they are combined. You will have to be my guinea pig for a bit.”
“In a few years, under the influence of this world’s magnetic field, your glands will gradually degenerate like mine. By then, you will not have the troubles of heat cycles or unstable pheromones.”
“Mm-hmm.” Tao Ran nodded excitedly. No one knew how much he looked forward to that day.
“Alright then, I have things to do. I am hanging up now.”
“Okay, goodbye Dr. Chi.” Tao Ran waved at the camera.
That night and the following day, Tao Ran kept a close eye on the tracking information Dr. Chi had sent.
When class ended at noon, Tao Ran opened his phone and received a message stating that the package had been placed in the school delivery station. He did not even have time for lunch before running to the station to retrieve it.
In the evening, close to his scheduled running time with Xu Jialiang, Tao Ran took out the blocker and applied a bit to the gland on the back of his neck. The blocker was precious; Tao Ran would not use it unless absolutely necessary.
After applying it, Tao Ran wrinkled his nose and sniffed himself. It felt like the pheromones had indeed faded slightly.
He was ready to go, waiting in the dorm for Xu Jialiang to message him. Ten minutes later, a message arrived.
Xu Jialiang: [Xiao Ran, I am so, so sorry!!!]
Xu Jialiang: [I was suddenly called to a meeting by the Student Union. It’s probably going to last a long, long time. I can’t go running with you tonight (Crying Cat.jpg)]
Tao Ran paused, then typed a reply: [It’s okay (Rose)]
Xu Jialiang: [I am so, so sorry ahhhh!]
After replying, Tao Ran turned off his phone and stood still in silence for a moment, thinking.
The pheromone blocker had already been sprayed; how could he let it go to waste? Thus, he decisively headed to the playground alone.
Just like the previous day, Tao Ran started by walking a few laps before gradually picking up his pace to a jog. The playground was bustling with people, but Tao Ran was so focused on adjusting his breathing that he completely failed to notice he had been targeted.
Suddenly, a figure darted out beside him.
“Hello, classmate! Are you running alone?” A boy’s cheerful voice rang in his ear.
Tao Ran shrank back like a startled small animal, looking warily at the person beside him. It was a very unfamiliar face, but the voice felt slightly familiar, as if he had heard it somewhere before.
The boy was smiling, keeping pace with Tao Ran and inching closer. His arm occasionally brushed against Tao Ran’s. Tao Ran knit his brows and silently took a step further away.
Seeing that Tao Ran kept his lips pressed thin and didn’t even grant him a glance, the boy wasn’t annoyed. He continued to smile and offered an invitation: “I run often, too. Do you want to run together in the future? How about we become running partners?”
In a flash of insight, Tao Ran’s memory was successfully triggered.
Nighttime. The road next to the basketball court of Dormitory Building 4. A group of PE students blocking his path. The person who had asked for his contact information—it was this voice.
The hair on Tao Ran’s body stood on end. He moved several steps away in high alert, ignoring him.
But the boy was persistent: “Hey, why aren’t you talking? Give me a response.”
“The way you’re breathing while running is a bit problematic. It’s wrong to breathe only through your nose. Let me teach you how to switch breaths.”
“I’m a PE student; I guarantee the methods I teach are scientifically correct.”
“…”
The boy was like a large fly that couldn’t be swatted away, constantly buzzing around him and making unpleasant noises to harass him. When Tao Ran ran faster, he followed; when Tao Ran slowed down, he slowed down; when Tao Ran moved left, he moved left.
Tao Ran: “…”
Even with a naturally soft temper, Tao Ran couldn’t help but feel his mood turn irritable because of this “big fly.” Zhao Kaiyun, however, didn’t seem to notice Tao Ran’s disdain at all and stayed close behind him. “Classmate, are you really not going to consider it?”
They ran around the playground in this stalemate for two laps until Tao Ran’s stamina gave out and he came to a stop. As Tao Ran struggled to steady his breath, Zhao Kaiyun stared at him from the side.
Because of the incorrect breathing, Tao Ran’s brain was slightly deprived of oxygen. His eyes were misty with a layer of moisture, looking somewhat out of focus. A thin flush rose on his fair face, and his rosy lips parted slightly, gasping for air slowly.
This image easily invited stray thoughts. Zhao Kaiyun’s mind quickly drifted into the gutter, his gaze lingering on Tao Ran with increasing ambiguity. He spoke with a playful, flirtatious tone: “Tired after just two or three laps? Your stamina isn’t great, classmate. Are you really not considering running with me?”
“I am not considering it.”
Zhao Kaiyun remained relentless: “Don’t reject me so quickly. I think we have a good connection. Can we at least be friends?”
Tao Ran: “…”
Not wanting to deal with this person any longer, Tao Ran decisively turned and walked away. After a few steps, it seemed the person didn’t intend to follow. But before Tao Ran could breathe a sigh of relief, he heard the person call out from behind: “Classmate, see you tomorrow night!”
The boy’s pleasant, cheerful voice made Tao Ran’s skin crawl, and his mood sank to the bottom.
Fortunately, over the next few days, Xu Jialiang was free to accompany him again. During those days, that boy didn’t come to harass him. However, Xu Jialiang had recently become very busy with work for the Student Union departments.
After running together for a week, Xu Jialiang told him very apologetically: “I am really sorry, Tao Ran. I have to write several activity proposals lately, so I probably can’t run with you.”
Tao Ran expressed his understanding: “It’s okay.”
Tao Ran thought that since that boy hadn’t appeared for a long time, he probably wouldn’t come back to harass him. So that evening, Tao Ran went to the playground by himself again.
Who knew that annoying “big fly,” seeing that he was alone, would immediately follow and harass him again?
“Classmate, why are you alone tonight?”
“Classmate, how about we run together?”
“Classmate, you’ve been running for a week now. How is your stamina still so poor?”
“Classmate…”
Tao Ran felt a sense of annoyance like never before.
In the evening, Zhuo Qiang returned to the dorm after skipping a boring elective class. Finding Tao Ran sitting at his desk looking at his phone, he asked curiously, “Hey, Tao Ran, why haven’t I seen you go running these past few days?”
Tao Ran wanted to vent his grievances but suppressed them deep in his heart, only saying dully, “I don’t really feel like going. I’ll rest for a few days.”
This “giving up” state was a far cry from the inspirational image of him going running on time every day a week ago.
“Comrade Tao Ran, I have to criticize you for this,” Zhuo Qiang said, feigning deep gravity. “Didn’t you say last week that you had to pass the fitness test on the first try at the end of the month? Where did your fighting spirit go? You can’t just ‘fish for three days and dry the nets for two.'”
“I don’t have anything else to do tonight. How about I go running with you?” Zhuo Qiang suddenly suggested. “I’ll run with you and cheer for you. I guarantee I’ll help you find your motivation!”
“Like this,” Zhuo Qiang said, covering his chest with his hands and pinching his voice for a demonstration: “Little Brother Tao Ran, the way you run is so heroic and cool. I’m being mesmerized by you~~~”
“Pfft—” Tao Ran was amused by his exaggerated, clownish behavior, and the frustration that had accumulated over the past few days dissipated.
Zhuo Qiang pulled Tao Ran up from his chair: “Alright, alright, put on your shoes. Let’s go to the playground together.”
“…Okay.”
With Zhuo Qiang’s company, Tao Ran didn’t see that boy for several days. Tao Ran understood the pattern now: this guy specifically picked times when he was alone to harass him. As long as someone was by Tao Ran’s side, he would stay far away and not dare to approach.
He really knew how to pick on the “soft persimmon.”
Zhuo Qiang replaced Xu Jialiang as Tao Ran’s second running partner. But unpredictability struck again. On the third evening of running together, Tao Ran was waiting in the dorm as usual for Zhuo Qiang to return before heading to the playground.
Half an hour past the scheduled time, instead of seeing Zhuo Qiang, Tao Ran received a phone call from him. The background was very noisy, and Zhuo Qiang’s voice was rushed: “Tao Ran, sorry! I can’t go running with you tonight. A classmate of mine broke his leg playing basketball; the injury is very serious. I’m currently on the way to the hospital with him.”
“I see.” Before Tao Ran could express concern for the classmate’s condition, Zhuo Qiang spoke again:
“But don’t worry! I’ve already found someone to accompany you. Just wait in the dorm a bit longer. I’m hanging up now!”
Click!
“What?” Before Tao Ran could react, the dormitory door was pushed open from the outside. He looked up sharply.
The young man was dressed in simple, casual clothing, his figure tall and upright.
Qi Yuxiao’s eyelids were lowered slightly, his dark eyes looking toward Tao Ran.
“Are you ready? Let’s go.”
