Chapter 1: Changing the Fiancé
A person like you, it’s impossible for anyone to ever like you! You’re high-maintenance and annoying. Whoever marries you is cursed with eight lifetimes of bad luck!
The words echoed through the luxurious presidential suite. A beautiful youth looked particularly disheveled as he brawled with the disarrayed man before him.
His fair cheeks were flushed with anger, and his round, apricot-shaped eyes were filled with fury. His hands, hanging at his sides, were clenched tightly, and his body trembled slightly. He wasn’t particularly tall, but his proportions were incredible—a slender waist and long legs. Because he was so thin, his oversized T-shirt and trousers hung loosely on his frame, making him look exceptionally frail. Combined with that stunningly beautiful face, he exuded a sense of delicate vulnerability.
Jiang He suppressed the urge to tear the scumbag’s mouth apart. Gritting his teeth, he hissed: What did you say?
The man wore an open bathrobe, exposing his chest. “I said I don’t fucking like you, you nuisance! If you want to throw a fit, go do it with your parents. It’s the perfect chance to cancel this bullshit engagement. I fucking like women. Who wants to marry a guy with a dick? It’s disgusting.”
A delicate, pretty face peeked out from under the quilt on the bed, her voice cloying: “Hubby, who is he? He’s like a psychopath.”
Jiang He trembled with rage. “Didn’t you say you like women? Is this your father then?”
Qi Xu snorted coldly, glancing at Jiang He with pure disdain. He didn’t bother to answer; instead, he grabbed the boy’s neck for a deep kiss before saying, “He really is a psychotic nuisance. He’s been dying to marry me. Just looking at him makes me sick.”
Qi Xu, you bastard! Jiang He grabbed a nearby chair and smashed it onto Qi Xu’s back, wishing he could strike him dead in one blow.
Warm liquid trickled down his forehead. Qi Xu reached up and touched a smear of bright red. His eyes widened in fury: “You actually dare to hit me?”
“You have an engagement and you still dare to mess around? If I don’t beat you to death today, my name isn’t Jiang He!” Jiang He lunged forward to attack again, but he was held back by the hotel staff who had rushed into the room.
Unable to offend either side, the hotel manager quickly called an ambulance for Qi Xu—whose head was split open—and arranged for a driver to take Jiang He back to the Jiang residence. Only then did he wipe the sweat from his brow and report the incident.
As soon as he got home, Jiang He threw the video he had recorded at his family. He sat in a chair with his arms crossed, his chest heaving. “I’m not marrying Qi Xu. He cursed at me, he hit me, and I caught him in bed with someone else!”
“What?” Jiang Chenwei frowned as he finished the video. He slammed his hand on the table twice, his anger flaring. “Fine! The Qi family really has some nerve. The engagement was only just settled, and he dares to do this? He clearly doesn’t take the Jiang family seriously.”
Jiang He was the youngest child of the Jiang family and had been pampered since birth. If the Qi family hadn’t personally come to discuss the alliance and if Jiang He hadn’t been willing, Jiang Chenwei would never have agreed to let him go. Now, before the wedding had even happened, that little animal from the Qi family dared to cheat and lay a hand on Jiang He. It was lawless.
Jiang Chenwei called for his eldest son with a cold face: “Jiang Xu, come with me to the Qi family. Xiao He, stay home. Dad and your brother will get justice for you.”
Compared to Jiang Chenwei, Fu Ying was slightly calmer. She first checked Jiang He for injuries. Once she confirmed he was fine, she also prepared to go settle the score.
The only truly calm person in the room, Jiang Xu, spoke up helplessly: “Mom, Dad, calm down first.”
Calm down my ass! Jiang Chenwei shouted. Look at how your brother was bullied! I’m going to tear that little brat into eight pieces today. This marriage is off! What kind of trash thinks he can marry my precious son? He’s dreaming!
If it hadn’t been for the friendship between the old masters of the Qi and Jiang families, he would never have agreed to this bullshit alliance. Although the Jiang family wasn’t quite on the level of the Qi family, they were still the second most powerful house in Hai City without an alliance. Breaking the engagement might cause ripples, but in Jiang Chenwei’s heart, nothing was more important than his son.
Jiang Xu helplessly turned to Jiang He for help. Aside from Jiang He, no one could stop the old couple.
Jiang He had originally wanted to go back to the Qi family to beat Qi Xu again, but seeing his brother’s pleading gaze, he couldn’t find the heart to refuse. “Mom, Dad, I already beat him up. I split his head open; blood was all over his face. As for the alliance…”
Jiang He couldn’t stand the thought of letting Qi Xu off so easily. His big, expressive eyes darted around, and he came up with a “brilliant” idea. A wide smile spread across the boy’s beautiful face. He leaned back lazily on the sofa, propping his head on his hands. “How about this? Let’s just change the marriage partner. Let’s switch to Qi Xu’s young uncle, Qi Hanchuan, instead.”
That way, once he married Qi Hanchuan, Qi Xu would have to call him “Little Auntie” (Little Uncle) whenever they met.
You hate me? Fine. I’ll hover right in front of your face until you’re disgusted to death, you scumbag.
His suggestion was immediately met with fierce opposition, led by Jiang Chenwei.
“No!” He was firm, closing his eyes to ignore his youngest son’s pouting face. “How is Qi Hanchuan any better than Qi Xu? The Jiang family doesn’t need to trade a child’s marriage for profit. Listen to your father—cancel the engagement. Even if we have to cut ties with the Qi family, it doesn’t matter. The Jiang family can handle the consequences.”
The always-steady Jiang Xu also agreed. What was the difference between marrying Qi Hanchuan and becoming a “living widow”? He couldn’t bear to let his brother suffer. Fu Ying also disagreed.
For the first time in his life, Jiang He’s idea was rejected by everyone. He was indignant. “Why? Is Qi Hanchuan really that bad? He’s the actual person in power at the Qi Group. Isn’t marrying him way better than marrying that playboy Qi Xu?”
Jiang Chenwei walked over to Jiang He, his large hand resting on the boy’s shoulder as he spoke earnestly: “Aside from the fact that he’s six years older than you, if you marry him, wouldn’t you be in the same generation as me, your father? Besides, Qi Hanchuan’s personality is eccentric and cold. I refuse.”
Seeing their firm attitude, Jiang He threw a tantrum. “I don’t care! I want to marry him! If you don’t agree, I’ll lock myself up and you’ll never see me again!”
Simply breaking the engagement wasn’t enough to quench his anger. He wanted to teach that scumbag Qi Xu a lesson. He wanted to see him turn pale with rage while being forced to call him “Little Auntie.” Furthermore, he knew that if the families truly fell out, the Jiang family might not actually be able to handle the fallout perfectly.
Although Jiang He hadn’t had much contact with Qi Hanchuan, he had seen him at several banquets. He was a genuine heartthrob, a hundred times more handsome than Qi Xu. He didn’t understand why his parents were so against it. The generational seniority didn’t matter at all—they weren’t actual family, so they could just follow their own rules. What was the big deal?
Jiang He locked himself in his room. He didn’t just turn the lock; he pushed two cabinets against the door to block his family out, looking ready to fight to the end.
The Jiang family assumed he was just acting out and would calm down once his anger passed. However, the little young master stayed in his room for over half a day, skipping both lunch and dinner. This broke Fu Ying’s heart.
Jiang He had been a premature baby with weak health, and after “that incident” in his childhood, he had been raised as the apple of everyone’s eye. He seemed arrogant, but he was actually soft-hearted and never stayed angry for more than two hours. This was the first time he had ever used a hunger strike to force them.
Jiang Xu knocked on the door, but there was no sound. He told Jiang Chenwei solemnly: “Dad, Xiao He really wants to marry Qi Hanchuan.”
Jiang Chenwei walked to the door and knocked. “Xiao He, open the door first and let’s talk this through. You can’t decide to marry Qi Hanchuan just out of spite. What if he treats you poorly? And you know the rumors—he’s never been in a relationship with any young master or lady for years. Who knows if there’s something wrong with his body? Marrying him is jumping into a fire pit!”
Jiang He’s voice, sounding close to tears, came from behind the door: “I’m marrying him regardless, or I’ll starve myself to death!”
Hearing this, Fu Ying felt a sharp pain in her heart. “Just agree to it. It’s not okay for him to stay locked up like this. This child usually looks obedient, but he’s a stubborn mule when it counts.”
Jiang Xu was also pained. “Xiao He, open the door and let me in. I have something to say to you.”
Jiang Xu was five years older than Jiang He. His brother had grown up trailing behind him. As a child, Jiang He was like a porcelain doll who couldn’t be touched or bumped. Jiang Xu had taken perfect care of him until he finally grew up healthy; naturally, he couldn’t stand to see him suffer.
He had already sent people to “teach Qi Xu a lesson”—the guy would likely be bedridden for ten days—but now that Jiang He suddenly wanted to marry Qi Hanchuan, he was at his wit’s end. Qi Hanchuan was a businessman through and through: unromantic, cold, and lacking any human warmth. He and Jiang He were at two opposite extremes; how could they be happy together?
Previously, Jiang Xu had agreed to the alliance with Qi Xu because he thought Jiang He liked him. Now, he realized he had misjudged.
Suddenly, a loud thud sounded as Jiang He threw something against the door. His voice followed: “All of you go away! Don’t crowd my door, or I’ll jump out the window!”
Hearing this, Jiang Xu told his parents to step back and kicked the door open.
Jiang He immediately pulled the quilt over his head, curling into a small ball. He pinched his thigh hard to force out two tears.
Jiang Chenwei strode forward, his tone harsh: “We’ve really spoiled you too much. You dare to use this to scare us?”
Jiang He hadn’t actually felt that aggrieved, but hearing the harsh tone—on top of being cheated on, cursed at, and yelled at—all his resentment flooded out. Tears poured out uncontrollably.
“Go away!” Fu Ying pushed Jiang Chenwei aside and sat on the edge of the bed, patting Jiang He through the quilt. “Xiao He, your father was just worried, he didn’t mean to be mean. Don’t hide, let Mommy see you.”
Jiang He shifted over, still wrapped in the quilt, silently wiping his eyes.
Just as Jiang Xu was about to speak, the butler suddenly announced that people from the Qi family had arrived, claiming they were there to apologize.
Fu Ying looked anxious. “Old Jiang, let’s see what the Qi family says first. If all else fails, then…”
Jiang Chenwei and Jiang Xu exchanged a look and went downstairs. Fu Ying stayed to accompany Jiang He.
Fu Ying looked at the small lump on the bed and sighed. “Xiao He, tell Mommy the truth. Are you insisting on marrying Qi Hanchuan because you like him, or just to get revenge on Qi Xu? Are you planning to divorce him once you’ve had enough revenge?”
Fu Ying knew her son well. Jiang He did just want revenge, but he knew that if he admitted it, they would be even less likely to let him marry Qi Hanchuan. He steeled himself and gritted his teeth: “I like him.”
Fu Ying was shocked. “You’ve never even met him. How could you like him?”
Jiang He poked his head out of the quilt, looking at her with watery eyes and a heavy nasal voice: “I have! I’ve seen him many times at banquets. He’s very handsome. I like him.”
Fu Ying stared at her son for a moment, unable to tell if he was lying. But she couldn’t stand his pitiful look. She reached out to wipe his tears. “I understand. Don’t do anything foolish again. I’ll go talk to your father.”
Jiang He pouted and emphasized: “I must marry Qi Hanchuan.”
I’ll just divorce him after I’ve had my revenge. It’s no big deal. If Qi Hanchuan has some ‘physical ailment,’ even better—I won’t have to deal with him.
Just as he spoke, there was a knock on the door. Jiang Xu’s voice was full of helplessness: “Xiao He, clean yourself up and come downstairs. The Qi family wants to see you.”
Jiang He looked at the door. “Is Qi Xu here?” He was ready to smash that guy’s head again.
Jiang Xu crossed his arms, his brow furrowed with an unpleasant expression. “That guy is still in the hospital and can’t come for now. But Qi Hanchuan is here. Let’s go down.”
